Saturday MECW Results From Wood River, IL

With Sarin Sinn MIA, a commissioner was appointed for the night to run the show...Bailey Mannix! Mannix immediately made himself the special guest referee for the Heavyweight Title match between champion Justin Reno and Eric Allen. He also told Mike Anthony to select a substitute partner to defend the Tag Team Titles...Anthony chose recent rival Shawn Santel and Santel agreed to the partnership.

Joey d. Chase King after the chokeslam.

Gamertag Fury816 d. Aiden Young after a spinebuster out of the corner and Flair Pin with feet on the ropes for illegal leverage. Mr. K attempted to interview Young after the match and he expressed frustration over his recent lack of success due to opponents' underhanded tactics...

Shorty Biggs & Chris Logan fought Brandon Espinosa & Ace Hawkins to a double countout. Shorty & Logan asked for a no-DQ rematch at the next show(May 12th) and Mannix made it so.

The injured Evan Money came out to tell the fans that Mannix had granted him an ironclad contract to return to MECW once he was able to wrestle again. He was interrupted by Jordan McEntyre who told him to make way for an active wrestler...

Brandon Aarons won a three-way dance with Jordan McEntyre and Dave Osborne to become the number-one contender to the Heavyweight Title. Osborne was eliminated by disqualification when McEntyre left Osborne holding his belt and acted like he had been hit with it(the referee had been checking on Aarons). Aarons went on to pin McEntyre by countering a Boston crab attempt into a victory roll.

Mike Anthony & Shawn Santel d. The Black Dragon Assassins(Damian Tyler & Matt Fontain) when Santel pinned the taller one after the swandive headbutt, retaining the Tag Team Titles.

Eric Allen(w/ Chris Logan & Shorty Biggs) d. Justin Reno(w/ Atty. Vern Harlow) to win the Heavyweight Title; Bailey Mannix was the special guest referee and sent all of the cornermen back to the dressing room. (Attorney Harlow would buy a ticket and sit in the audience for the match.) Mannix was biased in favor of Allen and delivered a low blow late in the match to stop Reno from hitting his swinging fisherman buster. That allowed Allen to capitalize with the Shortcut to regain the championship! Allen gave an emotional victory speech after the match, saying he thought he was done with wrestling after the Ironman Match in November but was glad to be back on top!

Comedy Part 438: Yohntastic

Location: Comedy Etc. II
Emcee: Aaron Brooks
Feature: Jamey Stone
Headliner: Todd Yohn

Wasn't sure if Art Vieluf would be having a guest spot on the show tonight...glad that he did. Felt like I had a really good set...got some good advice from Todd afterwards as well. Was very fortunate to learn from a comedy veteran like him as he was cool enough to talk with myself, Aaron, Dan Schmidt, and Ben Johnson after the show. This was definitely one of those good nights to be a part of the St. Louis comedy scene...thanks to all who were a part of it.

Midweek rasslin

TNA XPlosion

Commentators: Jeremy Borash & Eric Bischoff.

Brother Devon vs. Robbie Terry(w/ Robbie Eckos) for the T.V. Title: Borash notes that this is Devon's first singles title EVER. We get a quick look at The List which probably includes an inside joke or two. Robbie E is quick to distract the champion, allowing Robbie T to attack from behind. Terry dominates the match but can't put Devon away...Bischoff notes he should be quicker to go for the pin covers. A flying shoulderblock by Devon doesn't knock the powerhouse down but a second does the trick. Diving headbutt draws Eckos up to the apron so Devon tosses him into the ring. Terry once again attacks from behind and Eckos gets in his shots...right in front of the ref so that's a DQ. The post-match attack ensues, but Devon mows them down with a double flying clothesline and clears the ring.

WWE NXT5.com

Commentators: Josh Mathews & S. William Regal.

Derrick Bateman(w/ Kaitlyn Bonin) vs. Hunico(w/ Donny Camacho): Hunico takes control after hiptossing Bateman into the turnbuckles...yeah, that would do it. Hunico goes to the second rope but jumps straight into a dropkick. Bateman hits a flippy neckbreaker for two, but Hunico cuts him off with a Saito suplex for his own two-count. A fight on the ropes leads to a re-entry suplex by Bateman...Hunico shifts his weight to land on top but Bateman rolls through the pin into his own cover...for two. Bateman takes out Camacho with a suicide dive, but the lack of focus costs him the match as Hunico catches him on re-entry with the Olympic Slam for the victory.

Backstage, Maxine Perez talks to SOMEONE on the phone and Johnny Curtis creeps into the scene...Curtis claims to be unaware of Matt Striker's whereabouts, saying it was obviously a fatter stunt double on Superstars last week. Heh. They cross paths with Percy Watson and Alex Riley...Percy isn't too happy about Maxine hogging the spotlight during his match last week. Next, Curtis & Maxine barge into a conversation between Tyson Kidd & Natalya Neidhart...we're just trying to get TV time for everyone, huh? Titus O'Neil and Darren Young have a conversation over Young's flirtation tactics with Tamina Snuka...oh yeah, we have another match tonight.

Jey Uso(w/ Jimmy Uso) vs. Titus O'Neil(w/ Darren Young): SIVA TAU~! Jimmy and Darren join the commentary team for this matchup. Regal comments that he left Tyler Reks & Curt Hawkins off the show this week...heh. Jey goes after the leg right away...good move. O'Neil rolls out to regroup, then brawls his way back into an advantage. Jey rallies and delivers the Umaga Smash for a near-fall, then hits the Samoan Drop before going to the top rope. However, the big splash hits only raised knees...then the Clash Of The Titus gets the 1-2-3. Tamina Snuka comes to ringside to check on the Usos...and she briefly locks eyes with Young as they take their leave.

WWE Superstars.com

Commentators: Scott Stanford & Matt Striker.

Alex Riley vs. Heath Slater: Hey, one of these guys might just win a match! Slater gains control after a well-timed dropkick to the knee. Stanford notes that Riley is taking his mother to the Hall Of Fame banquet despite a lot of propositions from female Twitter fans...heh. A missed corner splash allows Riley to make the comeback...he hits the spinebuster and the A-Bomb(DDT out of the corner mount) for a close near-fall. Final Score(TKO) is set up but Heath elbows out of it and rams Riley into the turnbuckles, then comes off the ropes with the flying clothesline/neckbreaker drop for the upset win!

Justin Gabriel vs. Tyson Kidd: Guess this is face vs. face now...YAY WRESTLING~! FLIPPIES~! The match spills out of the ring where Kidd halts Gabriel's momentum with a Russian legsweep into the ringside barricade. Stanford wonders if the two could make a good tag team...speaking of which, wonder what happened to that Kidd/Trent Baretta tag team they were setting up? (Think Trent's injured.) Kidd tries for a rana only to get blocked and Demon Bombed...for two. Springboard moonsault misses and Kidd delivers a huge spinkick...for two. Sharpshooter is blocked and Gabriel victory-rolls Kidd...for two. Kidd kicks Gabriel away and backflips to the apron in one move. He tries to slingshot back into the ring but Gabriel blocks the move and delivers a modified powerbomb to get the three-count! The two shake hands after the match...SPORTSMANSHIP~!

TNA Impact

Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz.

Heavyweight Champion Bobby Roode starts the show with plenty of hired security...which becomes important when James Storm confronts him. Bully Ray blindsides Storm, but Storm fights him off and Roode runs for the hills.

Velvet Sky vs. Madison Rayne: Madison and Women's Champion Gail Kim mended fences before the match...but it didn't help Madison too much as Velvet got the decisive win after the sitout Pedigree. Sky challenges Gail after the match...she still wants her rematch for the belt.

James Storm had wanted a handicap match against Roode and Ray, but X-Division Champion Austin Aries isn't happy about Ray busting up his match last week and volunteers to team with Storm tonight. That'll work.

Matt Morgan vs. Tommy "Crimson" Mercer: The former partners brawl in and out of the ring and even the closing bell(double countout) doesn't stop them as they fight right out the door...

Abyss' brother Joseph Parks is still looking for him...

Jeff Hardy vs. Ken Anderson: Odd face vs. face battle...apparently Kurt Angle set up this match, saying Jeff will get a rematch with him at Lockdown if he can win here. Anderson decides to work heel for the night...after a collision leaves Anderson down and Hardy on the floor. Angle runs out to low-blow Hardy and ram him into the ringpost behind the referee's back. Kurt throws Hardy back in the ring where Anderson(unaware of the interference) hits the Mic Check for the win.

Women's Tag Team Champions Eric Young & O.D.B. plan their wedding...

Eric Bischoff challenges his son to face Phil Gunner in the cage at Lockdown...why not?

James Storm & X-Division Champion Austin Aries vs. Heavyweight Champion Bobby Roode & Bully Ray: Roode does everything he can to avoid Storm...Storm gets a hot tag late in the match and rallies against Ray, delivering the Closing Time lungblower. Roode takes a drink from Storm's beer bottle, but the ill-fated spit blinds Ray instead. Roode bails out of the ring, leaving Ray to take the Last Call superkick and get pinned.

Dixie Carter convinced Hulk Hogan to become General Manager again thanks to the persuasion of Sting and the entire face locker room...okay.

ROH Video Wire

Comedy Part 437: Relay Etc.

Location: Comedy Etc. II
Emcee: None(relay-style)
After: Kevin Bunetic
Before: Landon Meyer

Good audience last night, glad to make the list...hadn't done a show "relay-style"(each comic introduces the next one) since the Comedy Forum days. Tried out some of the newer jokes I'd written...feel like I did okay. Didn't know how to end the set so I just kinda ended it, then stumbled over Landon's introduction...yay live comedy?

IHW Special Comment

Good turnout for IHW in Red Bud...it was their first show since October and had been postponed a time or two.

Sounded like Mephisto's motivation for the heel turn was perceived favortism on the part of General Manager Luke Roberts. Mephisto did get championship opportunities in the past...just not as many as other people.

Good to see Brandon Aarons back in the ring...I had heard that his injury could have been career-ending. Was surprised that his big return match happened so early in the show, though he was also in the four-way dance for the tournament finals.

I'm sure there will always be a debate about how a champion from one group should be booked in another group in the same general area. Sometimes other groups' championships are acknowledged...Ace Hawkins brought three belts to the ring with him. He's IHW Illinois Champion, MMWA Jr. Heavyweight Champion, and...I'm not sure about the third belt(PWE?). I've heard about blowups over a promotion's top champion taking a loss for another area promotion...I guess it depends on each group's perspective.

All three announced matches took place...thought Hawkins vs. Dave Osborne was an Illinois Title match but it turned out to be an Invitational Tournament match.

Johnny Zulu finally made his in-ring debut after a few false starts at MMWA...not bad for an inaugural outing. He had gear!

People sold finishers...WOO~!

In-ring action was very good for the most part...I think fans around here are spoiled to an extent by the level of talent in the area. I've rarely been to a show that didn't have SOME redeeming quality to it...take that as you wish. There are flaws, of course, but hopefully people will keep working and learning their craft.

Ace Roberts vs. Great Cheyenne...wasn't very good. I had heard assessments of their previous outing at the East St. Louis show last year...so yeah.

Some interesting dynamics in the four-way dance for the Invitational trophy...former partners Aarons & Espinosa crossed paths and the Espinosa/Hawkins rivalry continued.

They could have gone a few different routes with the Heavyweight Title...would Billy retain and feud with Mephisto over the belt or would Cage win and feud with Aarons over it? Cage is taking credit for Aarons' injury last year so that issue has plenty of steam without the belt.

Had thought about checking out WLW in St. Clair next weekend but that show was cancelled...was already leaning toward MECW so that'll be my destination next Saturday.

-IHW Invitational Tournament: Brandon Aarons won a non-title four-way dance with Illinois Champion Ace Hawkins(w/ Mr. Late-Nite), Brandon Espinosa, and Jordan McEntyre. Espinosa broke up McEntyre's Boston crab on Aarons and eliminated him with the cobra clutch/Stroke. Former partners Aarons and Espinosa had an exchange that left Aarons outside the ring, but Ace capitalized on the situation with a low punt behind the referee's back and rolled up Espy for a three-count. That left Aarons and Hawkins...Hawkins mulekicked Aarons with the ref distracted, but Espinosa stopped him from using the belt as a weapon again. That gave Aarons the opening to nail the jumping enzuigiri and pin Ace for the victory.
-Billy McNeil d. Cameron Cage(w/ Mr. Late-Nite) in a chain match to retain the Heavyweight Title by tagging all four turnbuckles in succession. Mephisto ran into the ring after the match but bailed to the floor when McNeil started fighting back.

WWE Smackdown

-Commentators: Josh Mathews, Michael Cole, & Booker T.
-Mark Henry d. "R-Truth" Ron Killings by catching a cross-body off the top rope and delivering the World's Strongest Slam.

However, Ziggler refused to re-enter the ring and was counted out...so U.S. Champion Santino Marella and Kofi Kingston threw Dolph back into the ring to take the JUDO CHOP~!
-WWE Champion C.M. Punk & Sheamus O'Shaunessy d. World Champion Daniel Bryan & Mike Mizanin(w/ A.J. Lee) when Sheamus pinned Miz after the Brogue Kick.

FCW TV

Commentators: Chris Russo & S. William Regal. Ring announcer: Caylee Turner.

Russo announces that Summer Rae is the new General Manager of FCW...Regal seems pleased.

Dante Dash vs. James Bronson: Tall order for Dash's FCW TV debut...Bronson dominates the matchup before choking Dante out with the Tazmission.

Two-time Heavyweight Champion Leo Kruger enlightens us...he dismisses Mike Dalton as a fluke and proclaims himself to be the greatest Florida Heavyweight Champion EVAR.

Kaitlyn Bonin & Audrey Marie vs. Sofia Cortez & Paige Knight: Paige is FCW's new British import...explaining Regal's fascination with her. A cheapshot by Paige puts Audrey at a disadvantage...Paige is impressive in her TV debut, showing off a unique submission hold or two. Sofia tags in for a nice Northern Lights suplex but only gets two...but Audrey hits a neckbreaker out of nowhere and kicks Paige away before tagging in Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn hits Paige with a Buh-Buh Bomb and locks on the leg-applied full nelson for the tapout! Sofia and Paige go on the attack after the bell, but ring announcer Caylee Turner lends a hand...Women's Champion & Queen Raquel Diaz enters the fray, but the face trio holds the high ground at the end of the catfight.

Rob Naylor chats with newcomer Aiden English backstage, but Bronson confronts Naylor over Summer getting him in trouble...

Xavier Woods vs. Kassius Ohno: Regal talks about how Ohno once trained with himself as well as Fit Finlay and Dave Taylor. YAY WRESTLING~! Xavier controls the matchup for several minutes, but a yank of the afro halts that momentum. Regal namedrops Mitsuharu Misawa and Toshiaki Kawada for fun. Russo drops the tag "internet darling" and mentions Antonio Cesaro, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose in that light as well...heh. Ohno tosses aside his elbowpad and then thumbs Woods in the eye as the ref gets the pad out of the ring...bwahahaha. Xavier rallies with a flying headscissors and a forward-roll cradle for a close near-fall, then dropkicks Ohno out of the ring and follows up with a plancha! However, the floor turns out to be his undoing as Ohno Flapjacks him into the steel steps...he throws Xavier back in the ring and KO~!s him with one huge forearm smash for the three-count.

Women's Champion & Queen Raquel Diaz speaks to us...but she still doesn't have a banner. Raquel directs her insults toward Audrey Marie...which brings out Audrey to attack her!

General Manager Summer Rae(w/ Rob Naylor) meets with Corey Graves & Jake Carter in her new office...then gets a visit from Maxine Perez. Maxine vows that she's not done with Summer...then slaps Naylor for the fun of it.

Richie Steamboat vs. Antonio Cesaro for the FCW 15 Title: The two trade strikes right out of the gate before settling into technical wrestling...but tempers flare and Cesaro delivers a shot to the throat over the referee's shoulder. Cesaro follows up by throwing him shoulder-first into the ringpost and then powers him over into a German suplex for the first fall around the four-minute mark!

Cesaro keeps up the pressure with a nice dropkick as we pass the five-minute mark, but Steamboat gets a surprise rollup for a two-count. Cesaro fires back and drops a knee from the second rope...for two. Gutwrench suplex...for two. Cesaro lifts Steamboat into a neckbreaker submission hold, but Steamboat maneuvers out of the hold and fights back. Richie hits the spinaround neckbreaker...for two. Richie lines up for the superkick as we pass the ten-minute mark but Cesaro rolls out to the apron...they trade hiptoss attempts until Richie lands on the apron, then Cesaro cuts off his attempted climb to the top rope. Gutwrench superplex is blocked...and Steamboat counters by going up and over into a sunset bomb for the three-count, evening the score at the eleven-minute mark!

Cesaro begs off but Richie avoids the incoming dropkick and they slug it out with the clock ticking down. Richie ducks a European uppercut and attempts a backslide, finally getting it for two. They trade pinning combinations and near-falls until Cesaro blocks the superkick, then runs Steamboat into the ropes to counter an O'Connor Roll. Cesaro tries the German suplex again but gets victory-rolled...for two. Two minutes to go and Cesaro hits a huge European uppercut...he lays back for the cover and gets two but Richie crucifixes him on the mat...for two. Cesaro argues with the ref and walks into a small package...for two. One minute to go...Richie hits a cross-body for two. Cesaro throws Richie into the turnbuckles and goes for the Flair pin with feet on the ropes but the ref catches him. Steamboat gets another small package for two and they trade near-falls until the time runs out...it's a 1-1 draw and Steamboat retains the medal!

Steamboat celebrates but Cesaro attacks from behind, stepping on Richie as he holds up the medal. However, that ticks off Steamboat...SUPERKICK! Richie reclaims his medallion to close the show...so long from the Sunshine State!

Midweek wrestling

WWE NXT5.com

Commentators: Josh Mathews & S. William Regal. Emcee: Matt Striker.

Justin Gabriel vs. Curt Hawkins: Gabriel goes aerial a bit too early and misses a springboard cross-body, allowing Hawkins to capitalize with a Smiley Slam. Curt hurls a few choice words in Regal's direction...don't know how wise that is. Josh wonders if the inmates are running the asylum and Regal responds "This isn't WCW." HA! Gabriel returns fire with a flying kick off the second turnbuckle...and that keeps Hawkins down long enough for Justin to deliver the Fall From Grace for the 1-2-3. Hawkins glares at Regal as he takes his leave...

Backstage, Tamina Snuka crosses paths with Derrick Bateman & Kaitlyn Bonin...then Titus O'Neil & Darren Young decide to hit on Tamina. Enter Jimmy & Jey Uso...guess they're back on the same page as Tamina.

Jimmy Uso(w/ Jey Uso) vs. Darren Young: SIVA TAU~! Jey joins the broadcast team for this matchup...Regal notes the fans chanting "No One Knows You" regarding Young. Ouch. Jey rallies the fans to help his brother make the comeback...Samoan Drop! Umaga Smash! Cover...for two. Jimmy snaps the throat off the top rope and climbs the turnbuckles, but Young cuts him off and throws him shoulder-first into the ringpost. One Gut Check later, Young picks up the win. Backstage, we see Tamina watching the monitor and O'Neil adding his two cents...out of nowhere, Josh has to leave the broadcast table because he got a message about someone tampering with his car.

Backstage...it turns out Josh's situation was a ruse perpetrated by Johnny Curtis & Maxine Perez. Curtis takes out Striker with a rag soaked with chloroform...okay. Maxine: "Why do you have chloroform?" Curtis: "...why DON'T I have chloroform?..." Bwahahaha. Maxine leaves to tend to her business and Curtis nonchalantly hits on Alicia Fox in the meantime...heh.

Maxine makes her way out to ringside in an attempt to seduce Regal and "get off the show"...guess she's on commentary for the moment.

Percy Watson vs. Tyler Reks: It doesn't look like our commentary team is going to contribute much to this matchup...these two did cross paths in a tag match last week. Maxine gives Regal a foot massage as the match progresses...Reks isn't happy about being ignored though Regal is trying his best to call the match. Percy connects with a plancha, but Reks comes back with a Stungun and goes to work on the arm. I'm not sure if Maxine appreciates Regal's sense of humor, but she proceeds to a scalp massage...oh yeah, wrestling match. Percy makes the comeback but Reks rolls through a cross-body off the top...for two. Watson catches him with the Percycution and that ends up the matchup...Maxine offers a deep tissue massage but that conversation trails off as the show cuts to a break.

Josh returns for the main event...his car was fine and he's not quite sure what happened in his absence. Heh. Backstage, Maxine meets back up with Curtis...turns out Striker has disappeared from the trunk where Curtis left him. Bateman & Kaitlyn walk by the scene...Maxine thinks they did something but they plead ignorance.

Tyson Kidd vs. Michael McGillicutty: These two have had issues in the past month or so...and McGillicutty has evidently been working on his maniacal laugh. They even get a feud-recap video package...why not? Kidd goes on offense quickly with a pair of dropkicks and beats down MM in the corner, then headscissors him out of the ring before swinging around the turnbuckles to deliver a flying rana to the floor! However, Kidd gets ahead of himself and hits only ropes on an attempted cross-bodyblock. McGillicutty takes him to the floor and dumps him face-first on the broadcast table...that'll alter the momentum. Kidd surprises him with a modified crucifix rollup for two but MM stops him with a clothesline to the back of the head before rubbing his face in the mat. Kidd drop-toeholds MM into the turnbuckles to get some separation...looks like a comeback to me. Kidd dropkicks the knees out from under his opponent, then delivers an inside-out slingshot legdrop to the back of the head. Springboard elbowdrop...hits the knees! Saito Suplex by McGillicutty...gets two. He goes for it again but Kidd backflips out...MM counters an O'Connor Roll but Kidd counters that with a rollup...for two. MM dumps Kidd face-first on the top turnbuckle, but Kidd avoids the Headturner neckbreaker and double-legs him into a Sharpshooter attempt. MM kicks him through the ropes, but Kidd shoulders him in the gut and slingshots into a rolling prawn cradle for the flash pin! Kidd notes that they're now even with one win apiece...Regal's already thinking about the rubber match and MM vows revenge as the show closes out...

TNA XPlosion

Commentators: Jeremy Borash & Eric Bischoff.

Women's Tag Team Champion Eric Young vs. Frankie Kazarian: Bischoff feels like Young is just playing mind games. A lengthy rope-running crisscross segment ends with Kazarian sliding out of the ring and informing Young that he's running solo. Bischoff declines to attend Young's upcoming wedding to O.D.B....meanwhile, the match settles into more standard action with Kazarian taking control. Young fires back with a belly-to-belly suplex despite getting tangled up in his own trousers...no, really. Macho Elbow...gets two-and-a-half. Kazarian snaps the throat off the top rope to cut him off, but E.Y. fires back with a dropkick off the middle turnbuckle...for two. The referee tries to separate the two in the corner and misses a mule kick by Kazarian...ye olde Flair Pin with feet on the ropes seals the deal for Kaz.

WWE Superstars.com

Commentators: Josh Mathews, Scott Stanford, & Matt Striker.

Tag Team Champions Primo & Epico Colon vs. Alex Riley & Mason Ryan, non-title: Riley & Ryan fought over the FCW Heavyweight Title a long time ago...now they're a thrown-together duo in WWE's nonexistent tag team division. Riley does well against both opponents in the early going, but Epico distracts him and Primo clips the leg. The Colons keep Riley away from his corner, but Riley finally catches Primo with a spinebuster and tags are made on both sides! Ryan dominates with his power advantage, delivering a delayed vertical suplex on Epico...but Primo breaks up the pin attempt. Primo low-bridges Riley out of the game but Ryan clotheslines Primo to the floor...Ryan goes for the kill, but Rosa distracts him and the Colons hit a double backcracker! That's enough for Epico to cover Ryan for the pin.

Tamina Snuka & Natalya Neidhart vs. Women's Champion Beth Phoenix & Eve Torres: What an earth-shattering breakup for Beth and Natalya...Stanford tries to portray it as "friendly competition" but Josh isn't so sure. In fact, it's Nattie and Beth that start the matchup...Beth gives her an opportunity to leave, but Nattie instead rolls her up for an early two-count. Crucifix into a sunset flip gets another two-count...Beth goes to tag but Nattie pulls her back. Beth's finally had enough and throws Nattie to the floor where Eve dishes out some abuse. Eve toys with Natalya for a while, but runs into a discus lariat and Tamina tags into the match! Tamina takes out Beth with a Samoan Drop and then nails Eve with a flying cross chop. Slam sets up a potential Superfly Splash...but Beth runs interference long enough for Eve to slam Tamina off the top rope. Eve capitalizes with the moonsault for the win.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Titus O'Neil: Don't usually see Titus outside of NXT, but the landscape of WWE is shifting as he head toward WrestleMania. The commentators do a good job of establishing Yoshi as being able to win with just one big roundhouse kick out of nowhere...however, Titus may just be a bit too strong for him. Tatsu gets a close near-fall after a spinning heel kick, but Titus ducks the roundhouse kick and drops him with the Clash Of The Titus...that'll do it.

Ezekiel Jackson vs. Drew McIntyre: Drew tries to match power with Zeke...um, no. A trip to the top rope doesn't go well either as Jackson slams him to the mat...McIntyre takes refuge in the ropes, then BOOTs Zeke as the ref backs him off. Drew escapes a slam attempt and runs Zeke into the turnbuckles, then nails him with a clothesline from behind. Zeke finally turns the tide with a back suplex, then a series of clotheslines and sideslam...but Drew escapes a torture rack attempt and dropkicks the knees. Future Shock HITS and Drew wins!

TNA Impact

Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz.

Dixie Carter started the show by addressing Heavyweight Champion Bobby Roode's manhandling of her at the end of Victory Road...this brought out Sting who encouraged Dixie not to fire Roode so he could get his comeuppance in the ring. However, Sting realizes that he can't be both an authority figure and a wrestler...so he's going to take a break and come back better than ever. That means he's stepping down from his spot as general manager...but he has someone else in mind: Hulk Hogan. Dixie is skeptical for obvious reasons...

Austin Aries vs. Anthony Nese vs. Shiima Xion vs. Kid Kash for the X-Division Title: Fun flippy-fest...dive sequence, Tower Of Doom...then Bully Ray runs in and lays out everyone for the no-contest. Bah.

Eric Young & O.D.B. vs. Sarita Stock & Rosita Fly for the Women's Tag Team Titles: After some tomfoolery between the happily-engaged couple, Young pins Rosita after O.D.B. hits her with a Samoan Drop.

James Storm calls out Roode but gets Roode's attorney who says that Roode won't appear in this "unsafe work environment" for the time being. Of course, the lawyer eats a superkick.

Garett Bischoff vs. Kurt Angle, three-minute challenge: Garett lasted five minutes with Angle last week, so let's try three minutes. Angle didn't learn his lesson last week as he is content to toy around with Bischoff again, but Bischoff surprises him with a run of offense and nearly wins with a snapmare driver. Garett tries to stall out the clock but Phil Gunner runs in for the DQ...Jeff Hardy makes the save to set up another match for Lockdown.

Samoa Joe & Brutus Magnus vs. Mexican America(w/ Sarita Stock & Rosita Fly) for the Tag Team Titles: Sarita & Rosita try to cause a distraction, but Josh Lewis from the TV show Repo Games carries them off. That leads to Joe pinning Anarquia after the jumping enzuigiri/snapmare/middle-rope elbowdrop sequence.

James Storm vs. Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian, handicap match: Roode's attorney gave Storm his choice of opponents but Storm said he'd face both men at once. Daniels & Kazarian use the numbers to their advantage, but a backfired double-team gives Storm the opening to superkick Kazarian and then Daniels before pinning Daniels.

The show closes with Sting, Dixie Carter, and Hulk Hogan...looks like Hulk may be back in charge soon.

Emcee: J.C. Sibala
After: John Bacus
Before: Matt Idoux

Good to get on stage again...tried out a new joke and realized it was more effective as a Facebook status. Live and learn, right? Had a good set in general, so that was cool. I'm officially trying to avoid "older" material if I can help it...audiences are different but comics get tired of hearing the same sets all the time. The purpose of an open-mic show is to test-run new material...just wish I had a bit more of it.

-Gail Kim d. Madison Rayne with Eat Defeat to retain the Women's Title.

NWA Anarchy TV #320

Commentators: Tim E.D. & Bret Wolverton.

The opener is scheduled to be Seth Delay vs. Jeff Lewis for the T.V. Title, but Steven Walters wants into the proceedings. Commissioner Brodie Ray Chase makes it so...clarifying that it'll be elimination-style.

Seth Delay vs. Steven Walters vs. Jeff Lewis, three-way dance for the T.V. Title: Walters is going heel because he's upset about the fans continuing the cheer Seth despite his continued use of the brass knuckles. Walters tries to bring a chair into the ring, so Seth brings in the title belt...but as the referee turns around, Seth throws the belt to Lewis and falls to the mat. The referee thinks Lewis hit Delay with the belt and disqualifies him...and as the referee orders Lewis out of the ring, Seth nails Walters with the knucks! The ref returns to the ring and Seth gets the pin to retain the title...but Lewis lays out Delay with the Final Curtain(Northern Lights Bomb) after the match.

Zack Daniels & Jesse Windham vs. The Ambassadors(Jacoby Boykins & Chris Mayne): Jesse is making his Anarchy debut...don't think he's related to Barry. John Johnson is on vacation so he's obviously not at ringside. Daniels' house-afire is put out very quickly...Boykins gets the pin after the powerbomb/backcracker double-team.

Anthony Henry vs. Skirra Corvus for the Young Lions' Title: Interesting face-face matchup here...Corvus won a gauntlet match to earn this opportunity. They trade holds to start but tempers flare in a hurry...Henry tries to backdrop Corvus over the top rope but he only makes it halfway, landing rather painfully on the top rope. Henry follows up by missing a plancha, so Corvus delivers a running dive off the top rope! Henry raises the knees to block a springboard splash and sets up the brainbuster, but Skirra counters in mid-air with a small package...no, Henry reverses it...for two. Henry hits a major tilt-a-whirl backbreaker...for two. Henry tries a bow-and-arrow hold but Corvus escapes straight into a pin cover...for two. Henry fires back but falls victim to the bat-choke, then Corvus sunset-flips into the ring...for two. Corvus gets his modified Cattle Mutilation(opponent in a seated position) but Henry powers out of it...only for Corvus to bodyscissors his way into a facespike move! Cover...for two. Henry escapes the Graveyard Shift setup and delivers a powerslam...Texas Cloverleaf? No, Corvus victory-rolls him...for two. Henry gets a sunset flip, kicking off a series of pin reversals and two-counts between the competitors. Henry counters a rana with a turnbuckle powerbomb, then double-legs him down into the Cloverleaf...but Corvus reaches the ropes. Henry cuts off a top-rope move by Corvus, but Corvus shifts his way to land on top of a belly-to-back superplex attempt! Suddenly, Andrew Pendleton III leads Bobby Moore and John Skyler into the ring to attack both men...guess that's a no-contest finish to screw up an otherwise fine matchup. Billy Buck makes the save...and Skyler is left alone in the ring with all three faces. Buck superkicks Skyler into dreamland to cap things off...there's some tension between Henry and Corvus but cooler heads prevail.

Mikael Judas vs. Tag Team Champion Lane Vasser(w/ Jeff G. Bailey): The superheavyweights stare each other down to start...don't see this being a lucha libre-style matchup. Vasser finds himself in the unusual position of being thrown around the ring...a timely foot grab by Bailey allows Vasser to turn things around. Apparently the Tag Team Titles are under Freebird rules as any two of the NWA Elite(Se7en, Vasser, & Bryan Cassanova) could defend the belts. Now it's Judas' turn to be uncharacteristically overpowered...but Judas fights out of the fireman's-caryr spinebuster. El Big Comeback ensues...IT'S THE BIG FOOT sets up the clothesline off the top rope...time to visit Chokeslam City! The cover is made, but Se7en & Cassanova run in for the DQ...bah. The double-team assault commences with Bailey directing traffic...Chase arrives to restore order and Bailey slaps him in the face! Brodie decks Jeff G. and then starts cleaning house personally, but the numbers catch up to him...Cassanova drops Judas with the "Love Hurts"(TKO) as Bailey puts the boots to Chase. The locker room finally empties with promoter Franklin Dove personally sending in the troops...

WWE Superstars

Commentators: Josh Mathews, Matt Striker, & Scott Stanford.

Justin Gabriel vs. Hunico(w/ Donny Camacho): Hunico enlightens us before the matchup. Gabriel nearly has a bad landing on a springboard plancha but still takes out both Hunico & Camacho with the move. YAY WRESTLING~! and FLIPPIES~! are exchanged as these two get a surprising amount of time...Gabriel tilt-a-whirls into a DDT, then kicks Camacho away from the corner en route to the turnbuckles. However, that's enough to prevent a potential Fall From Grace as Hunico cuts off his climb...top-rope Death Valley Driver(!) ends it for Hunico.

"R-Truth" Ron Killings & Kofi Kingston vs. Tyler Reks & Curt Hawkins: Stanford gives us a team name: The Hip-Hop Express. The momentum swings a few times...Kofi takes out both opponents with a somersault plancha(using Truth's back as a stepping stone). Hawkins runs interference long enough for Reks to toss Kofi out of the ring...looks like a momentum shift to me. Kingston manages to counter a running powerslam attempt by Reks into a mid-air DDT...race to tag? Tag to Hawkins...tag to Truth! Lie Detector(corkscrew forearm) and Hat Rack Crack(sitout gourdbuster)...Reks saves but Kofi throws him out of the ring. Kofi hits Trouble In Paradise from the apron, sending Hawkins straight into R-Truth's Paydirt for the victory.

Women's Champion Beth Phoenix vs. Kelly K, non-title: Beth looks odd with makeup. The match is fairly competitive but Beth has been on a roll lately. Kelly rallies but gets yanked throat-first into the ropes. Glam Slam...no, Kelly counters into a victory roll for a CLOSE near-fall. Beth is ticked, clotheslines her to the mat, and hits the finisher on the second try for the pin.

XPlosion, NXT, Impact

TNA XPlosion

Commentators: Jeremy Borash & Eric Bischoff.

Velvet Sky vs. Angelina Love: Ironic that the Women's Tag Team Titles introduced specifically for these two were never held by this specific duo of Beautiful People. Velvet gets the win with the sitout Pedigree.

WWE NXT5.com

Commentators: Josh Mathews & S. William Regal. Emcee: Matt Striker.

Jimmy & Jey Uso vs. Titus O'Neil & Darren Young: Regal set the theme for the night...wall-to-wall tag team wrestling. SIVA TAU~! Titus & Darren mock the entrance with their own version...um, yeah. This fires up the brothers as they dish out an early beating on O'Neil. Titus learns the hard way not to headbutt a Samoan as Jimmy returns the favor with slightly more effectiveness. The Usos clear the ring, then Jey dives off the apron onto Young as Jimmy connects with a suicide dive on O'Neil...nicely done. O'Neil & Young turn the tide and isolate Jey from his corner...but it doesn't last and Jimmy finally gets the tag. Jimmy goes aerial against Titus and nails the Umaga Smash but Young breaks up the pin. Jey dumps Young but Titus dumps Jey, then Jimmy kicks Titus in mid-air to stop a Clash Of The Titus attempt. He follows up with the Samoan Drop, then tags Jey to finish with the Headshrinker Splash!

Earlier today: Alex Riley & Percy Watson bonded over basketball only to run into Tyler Reks & Curt Hawkins. Regal decided that a match was in order...

Alex Riley & Percy Watson vs. Tyler Reks & Curt Hawkins: Riley's pushing the idea that Percy would rather "look good and lose" than "look bad and win"...hmm. Reks & Hawkins are the more established pairing and get Watson in their corner fairly quickly. A-Ry gets the hot tag and the house is on fire, but Reks cuts off Riley's climb to the top rope...so Percy takes them both out of the game with a Cactus Clothesline. However, that gives Hawkins enough of an opening to slam Riley off the turnbuckles...he follows that up with the Heatseeking Elbow for the victory. Looks like they won't be doing Regal's laundry as threatened...

Maxine Perez makes herself at home in Striker's office only to literally run into Kaitlyn Bonin...see, she and Derrick Bateman were playing tag. Derrick and Johnny Curtis join the verbal party...that's our main event.

Enter Michael McGillicutty...he got into an altercation with Tyson Kidd last week over Kidd's rather direct request for a rematch. MM says no to the rematch, so naturally Kidd arrives to take exception. Kidd mentions his experience and training and McGillicutty says that he'll NEVER be a Hart no matter how much he trains. This sparks a brawl that quickly spills out of the ring...Kidd teases the Sharpshooter but McGillicutty kicks him away and retreats from the ring. Suddenly MM is wanting that rematch after all...

Derrick Bateman & Kaitlyn Bonin vs. Johnny Curtis & Maxine Perez: CATFIIIIIGHT~! to start...why not? Bateman goes on offense against Curtis, but he misses a high knee in the corner and Curtis attacks the leg. Curtis keeps getting distracted by Kaitlyn, allowing Bateman to fight back with an enzuigiri. Curtis crawls to the wrong corner and Kaitlyn nails him...so Bateman capitalizes with the Mantastic DDT for the three-count! Kaitlyn hugs Derrick's mom at ringside...hmm. Maxine yells at Curtis in the ring...and it looks like Bateman has chosen to spend his time with Kaitlyn instead. "Tag, you're it!" and he returns that kiss from two weeks ago.

TNA Impact

Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz.

Madison Rayne d. Velvet Sky by rolling through an O'Connor Roll and holding the tights.

Tommy "Crimson" Mercer(w/ Matt Morgan) d. Tag Team Champion Samoa Joe(w/ Brutus Magnus); Morgan took out Magnus on the floor and then snapped Joe's throat off the top rope behind the referee's back, giving Crimson the opening to spear Joe for the victory. Seems like the face/heel roles have been reversed in this feud...

X-Division Champion Austin Aries celebrated his lengthy title reign only to be interrupted by Shiima Xion...is Aries actually the face in this feud?

Women's Champion Gail Kim d. Mickie James(n/t) after BELTing her from the floor as the referee tried to back Mickie off.

Ken Anderson d. Christopher Daniels with the Mic Check after A.J. Styles stopped Frankie Kazarian from interfering.

Garett Bischoff d. Kurt Angle in a five-minute challenge by surviving the five minutes(Angle hit the Olympic Slam right before the time limit expired). Jeff Hardy saved Garett from a post-match anklelock.

James Storm d. Phil Gunner(w/ Bully Ray) after the Closing Time lungblower followed by the Last Call superkick.

The show ended with a contract signing for the Bobby Roode/Sting match at Victory Road, which will be a no-holds-barred match...

Comedy Part 434: Spring Forward

Location: Comedy Etc. II
Emcee: Matt Idoux
After: Dan Schmidt
Before: Landon Meyer

Hadn't been on stage for a Wednesday night show at Etc. since early February(though I was at Brennan's for one of those Wednesdays)...glad to be added to the list. Really good crowd, which a few guys attributed to spring break...hopefully the improved weather will also mean improved audiences. Got to try out a few new jokes and had some good lines regarding previous comics' audience interactions. Feel like I have something to prove since I haven't been on stage very often in recent weeks...

FCW TV

Commentators: Chris Russo & S. William Regal. Ring announcer: Caylee Turner.

C.J. Parker & Jason Jordan vs. Big E Langston & Alexander Rusev: There's an obscene amount of power on the heel side of the ring here. Parker and Langston are both former FCW Tag Champs(Parker with Donny Marlow/Camacho, Langston with Calvin Raines) who are looking for new partnerships. The good guys do the right thing by making a lot of quick tags...but Jordan finally gets caught in the wrong corner. Jordan is able to go toe-to-toe with his larger adversaries on a few occasions...finally making the hot tag to C.J.! The juice is loose...he outmaneuvers Rusev but Big E inserts himself into the proceedings. Parker & Jordan double-clothesline Big E out of the match and Jordan follows him out, but Rusev plants C.J. with a swinging uranagi. Instead of going for the pin, Rusev goes to the second rope...and misses the splash! C.J. capitalizes with an Oklahoma roll for the upset victory!

Kenneth Cameron vs. Byron Saxton: Byron still has the arm sling, claiming that the doctor has not cleared him to return to the ring. However, he has a suitable replacement in mind...

Kenneth Cameron vs. Colin Cassady(w/ Byron Saxton): Cassady has the size advantage, but Cameron takes the fight to him and goes after the leg. Cameron wears Cassady down with a sleeperhold but Cassady backs him into the corner to escape. Cameron hits the sitout jawbreaker, but Saxton throws off the sling and elbows Cameron in the back of the head from the apron! The referee didn't see it as he was checking on Cassady...IT'S THE BIG FOOT and Cassady picks up the tainted win!

Audrey Marie vs. Sofia Cortez: These two crossed paths in last week's triple threat match for the Women's Title held by Raquel Diaz. Audrey seems to be going for the Lara Croft look with her ring attire. Sofia lures Audrey to the side of the ring and snaps the arm off the top rope...Audrey tries to fight back but Cortez focuses her attack on the bad arm. Mutual faceslams leave both women down but it's Audrey who makes the comeback. Audrey Matrixes into a headscissors but Sofia cuts her off with a reverse Stunner...for two. Sofia goes back after the arm but Audrey rolls her up out of nowhere...for two. Audrey catches a cross-bodyblock and turns it into a swinging uranagi...that's enough for the victory. Enter Women's Champion & Queen Raquel Diaz along with our brunette newcomer(Paige Knight)...cue the triple-team, but Kaitlyn Bonin arrives to even things up a bit.

Kassius Ohno makes his debut appearance on FCW TV with a promo...his initials are "K.O." and he enjoys knocking his opponents out. That man will be a "hero" to many, I'm sure...

Enter President Steve Keirn(w/ Norman Smiley)...he calls General Manager Maxine Perez to the ring. Keirn is concerned about the hiring of Dr. James Bronson...he notes that Bronson isn't even a real psychiatrist, heh. Keirn wants her to hand over Bronson's notes to Norman...oh, and Norman adds that she's FIRED~! Oddly, Maxine doesn't seem too upset about it...

Mike Dalton vs. Leo Kruger for the Heavyweight Title: Kruger was quick to invoke his rematch clause after Dalton's upset win last week. Dalton gains the early advantage, but Kruger cuts him off with a thrust to the throat and slows the pace. Dalton surprises him with a crucifix for two, O'Connor Roll for two, Oklahoma roll for two, small package for two...and Leo sends him to the floor with a yank of the tights.

Kruger grabs him in the sleeperhold while he's on the apron and pulls him back into the ring, but the referee forces him to break the hold. Dalton gets another small package for two, but Leo is ticked and repeatedly rams his face into the mat. Sleeper again...Dalton tries to sit out into a victory roll but Kruger blocks and wheelbarrow-spikes him face-first to the mat! Cover...for two. Leo goes to the top...but gets dropkicked in mid-leap...Dalton covers...for two. Dalton hits two Flying Jalapenos and a spinning heel kick, then counters a backdrop into a sunset flip...for two. Elevated DDT is blocked once but not twice...Kruger gets a foot on the bottom rope! Leo gets a desperation rollup with a handful of tights...for two! Kruger Stunguns him...but then runs into the Canadian Mapleleaf(Lance Storm~!). Kruger barely reaches the ropes to escape the hold...then reverses a whip to get the sleeper again. Dalton tries to kick off the turnbuckles but Leo pulls away from the corner...backs him into the turnbuckles but Leo hangs on...then finally runs him into the ropes to get away. However, the sleeper has taken its toll and Kruger grabs the hold once again, finally taking him down to the mat...Dalton is able to get back to his feet, but he's fading and Leo pulls him back down. The referee finally checks the arm and calls for the bell...Leo Kruger is a two-time FCW Heavyweight Champion!

So long from the Sunshine State!

MMWA Special Comment

South Broadway has been getting some really good crowds in recent months...good for them.

The show kicked off with Espy doing a promo under the banner of his OVW interview segment "Straight Talk". Espy wanted to choose his opponent(Johnny Zulu) but Commissioner Keith Smith ix-nayed that plan. At this rate, Zulu's debut is going to become a running gag as it reaches Brodus Clay levels of postponement.

I've had some interesting discussions with my friends at shows about certain aspects of the current product...more on that in a bit.

Felt bad for the guys in the opener as they were clearly setting something up with the chair but couldn't get it to stay wedged between the turnbuckles. They managed to improvise well enough, so points to them for that.

The debuting Andrew Wilder looked okay for his first in-ring appearance...he badly needs proper gear, though. If you don't have proper gear, the first impression you're giving is "yarder". He had a good grasp on heel work, at any rate.

Please sell a finisher...if you take a devastating move to end the match, you shouldn't be back on your feet five seconds later.

Hey, a feud over the Jr. Heavyweight Title! Ace was bumping like crazy and I've dug Archer's heel work. Good matchup.

The tag title match was...yeah. The Lumberjacks did a post-match promo about the lack of competition and the internet nitwits and yadda yadda yadda.

Cruz-Osborne was really good. Always fun to see Osborne celebrate after throwing an opponent over the top rope(Battle Royal Champ!) only to be reminded that it's not a battle royal.

Cruz had a ringside seat for Jackson-Vaughn...Vaughn may have had the win on a few occasions but kept getting distracted by Cruz's presence leading to Gary turning things around for the victory.

I enjoyed Espy-LMC as the two have had some fun matches. It was noted to me that we were watching two "smaller" guys fighting for the HEAVYWEIGHT Title, yes. It's unfortunate that most of our current examples of "big" wrestlers are ones that aren't very good in the ring...I have no problem with a bigger wrestler if he knows what he's doing in the ring.

Another conversational note was the fact that everyone feels a need to be a high-flyer. That became cool during the Monday Night Wars when the cruiserweights and luchadors were a big part of mainstream wrestling. It had the side effect of encouraging aspiring wrestlers to just do FLIPPIES~! instead of learning the fundamentals...Evan Bourne didn't start moving up in the wrestling world until he became a more well-rounded performer.

A friend said that guys should learn how to work a full match without ever leaving the mat...not saying that people should NEVER do aerial moves, just so they learn to adapt to that particular scenario. For instance...what if you work in a building with a low ceiling? You can't exactly be flying off the top rope in that situation. Also, what if your opponent works a technical style and attacks the leg? It wouldn't be believable to make the comeback and jump around all over the place...you can only handwave it with "adrenaline" to a certain point.

I mistakenly thought SICW was running on the 17th but their show is actually on the 24th...so it doesn't look like I'll be going to any shows this coming weekend.
