Comedy Part 510: Two Nights In A Row

Location:  Fitz's
Emcees:  Jon Venegoni & Kelsey McClure
After:  Kenny Kinds
Before:  Nathan Orton

With Friday off work, I decided to check out the show at Fitz's.  I did a lot of the same new jokes that I tried out on Wednesday...it went okay, though there were a few chatty people in the audience that derailed parts of the show.  I'm really feeling my age these days...can't stay up late as well as I once did.  :P

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Jeremy Borash.
-Women's Champion Madison Rayne & Velvet Sky d. Gail Kim & Lei'D Tapa when Velvet pinned Gail after the In Yo' Face(sitout Pedigree).  Chris Sabin confronted Velvet afterwards about not returning his calls and she told him that they were through.
-James Storm & Phil Gunner d. Bad Influence(Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) when Gunner pinned Kazarian after a swandive headbutt.
-The Bro Mans(Robbie Eckos & Jessie Godderz)(w/ Shiima Xion) fought Abyss & Eric Young to a no-contest to retain the Tag Team Titles; Abyss snapped and hit the referee with the Shock Treatment, then chokeslammed Young.
-Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe d. Heavyweight Champion Brutus Magnus & Ethan Carter III when Joe made Magnus tap out to the Kokita Clutch.  Dixie Carter & Rockstar Spud flipped out over the finish as Joe became the top contender to Magnus' title with the win; Angle and Joe's careers were on the line.  The "new investor" revealed himself after the match:  Montel Vontavious Porter, accompanied by The American Wolves(Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards).

Midweek wrestling

WWE Main Event

-Commentators:  Tom Phillips & Alex Riley.
-Alberto Del Rio d. "R-Truth" Ron Killings; Alberto fought out of a superplex attempt and hit a top-rope double-stomp with R-Truth hung up on the turnbuckles.
-Natalya Neidhart d. Tamina Snuka(w/ Women's Champion A.J. Lee on commentary) via rollup.  A.J. and Tamina attacked Nattie afterwards but The Funkadactyls(Naomi Night & Cameron Lynn) made the save.
-Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston & Jimmy & Jey Uso d. The 3-Man Band(Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre, & Jinder Mahal); Langston hit the Big Ending on Slater for the win as the Usos hit stereo splashes off the top turnbuckles onto Drew and Jinder.
-Announced for Raw:  New Age Outlaws vs. Brotherhood in a cage match for the Tag Team Titles.

(TNA XPlosion aired a rerun of last week's episode, apparently...I read they'll air the right one over the weekend.)

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips, Alex Riley, & S. William Regal.  Ring announcer:  Byron Saxton.

NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension(Konnor O'Brian & Rick Viktor) vs. Mike Cuellari & John Eicharino, non-title:  Just barely caught the names of the victims...not that it matters much.  This is a squash with gusto; Viktor pins Eicharino after the Fall Of Man(legsweep/flying European uppercut combo).

Backstage, Sylvester Lefort is conducting interviews for his next protege.  He gets Cal Bishop, but Lefort doesn't like the cauliflower ear so he's out.

Donny Camacho(w/ lowrider bicycle) vs. Corey Graves:  Graves is returning from a recent concussion in a match against Adrian Neville...he enlightens us before the match and says he's not done with Neville.  Camacho's flying solo as Hunico doesn't seem to be showing his face around these parts any more(seewhatIdidthere?).  Graves escapes an early Samoan Drop attempt and takes out the leg, giving Camacho a dragonscrew legwhip through the ropes.  That's enough of an opening for Graves to hook the Lucky 13(Fuller leglock) and Camacho has nowhere to go but Tapout City.

Backstage, Devin Taylor interviews Antonio Cesaro about his refusal of Sami Zayn's challenge.  He already beat Zayn and the match was great because he was in it...'nuff said.

Backstage, Lefort interviews Sawyer Fulton...or not, as Fulton isn't aware that auditions were taking place.  Okay then.

Bayley Rose(w/ Natalya Neidhart) vs. Sasha Banks(w/ Summer Rae & Charlotte Flair):  Renee Young joins the broadcast team for this one.  Bayley wants a piece of Charlotte but she's not her opponent for tonight.  Sasha takes the cue to attack from behind, controlling the bout with a straitjacket hold.  Bayley makes a comeback and Nattie cuts off Charlotte's attempt to interfere, leading to Sasha rolling up a distracted Bayley...for two.  Bayley comes back quickly with the Belly-To-Bayley Hugplex for the pin out of nowhere...Sasha's not happy but Bayley still hasn't gotten her hands on Charlotte.

Colin Cassady vs. Tyler Breeze:  Big Cass' tights say "How Ya Doin'?"  Regal says Breeze's boots are made of Peruvian chinchilla fur.  The fans are divided on this one; some of them like Breeze, others deem him S-A-W-F-T.  Breeze takes forever to start the match as he's still taking selfies.  Big Cass borrows a fan's phone to take a few selfies and mockingly strut around...heh.  Fans chant "This Is Awesome" and they haven't even touched each other yet...bwahahaha.  NOW the opening bell rings and Breeze fires up on Big Cass, but Cass decks him(NOT THE FACE~!).  That gets two and a big elbowdrop gets another two-count.  IT'S THE BIG FOOT...for two.  Suddenly Aiden English pops up on the Titantron...he says everyone's a "G" until an Artiste walks into the room.  He goes into the injured Enzo Amore's locker room...and Cassady's attention is diverted long enough for Breeze to hit the Beauty Shot(spinning heel kick).  1-2-3.

Backstage:  Colin Cassady goes to check on Enzo...Enzo says they just traded words and that was it.  They're not playing games...not chess, not Boulder Dash, Connect Four, etc.

Mike Mizanin vs. C.J. Parker:  Parker's not feeling the "good vibes" lately...the fans are emitting too much C-O-2, we are informed.  C.J.'s definitely the heel in this one and has to absorb an early assault from The Miz...he gets in a jumping side kick for a two-count, then follows up with a double-knee in the corner for another two.  Miz rallies with his usual offense, then takes out the leg and dragonscrew-legwhips him to the mat.  Parker manages a late burst of offense, but Miz rolls through a cross-body off the top and gets the figure-four leglock for the submission.

Backstage exclusive:  Sami Zayn isn't going away so easily as it relates to Antonio Cesaro.  He wants an answer to his face and he'll look for one next week.

Backstage, Lefort is still taking auditions...Mason Ryan?  Ryan says he'll work for Lefort...but only if Lefort can beat him one-on-one next week.

Time for the NXT Title contract signing...Renee Young hosts, welcoming Adrian Neville and NXT Champion Bo Dallas to the ring.  However, Bo doesn't show...Adrian signs the contract, but then Bo comes out dressed to wrestle.  Bo's not scared...he's just getting tired of Neville.  Dallas tells him to take a seat while he shows why he's the champion.

NXT Champion Bo Dallas vs. Danny Burch, non-title:  Don't see this being too competitive.  Bo's not smiling tonight...he turns up the aggression as Neville and Renee sit at ringside.  Bo controls the action and glares at Neville a few times...Burch gets off a few shots but Bo cuts him off quickly.  Bo finishes with a double-underhook DDT...now he's ready to sign the contract.  Adrian gives it to him personally and now it's official.  Neville glances at the contract and Bo drops him with a cheapshot...he poses at ringside but Neville goes after him with a suicide dive!  The two brawl on the entrance ramp as the show fades out...

Comedy Part 509: Peaks & Valleys

Location: Valley Park Funny Bone
Emcee: Nathan Orton
After: Ted Vincent
Before: Andrew Frank

I went to the first scheduled open-mic night for the Valley Park Funny Bone last fall, but it was cancelled due to lack of attendance(Game 1 of the World Series was the same night). I wanted to get back to open-mic at some point...I was sick last week but I made it there last night. Not as many comics sign up for that show as the Westport version, so there's a better chance of making the list. May figure out if other Illinois comics want to carpool on Wednesday nights.

The show had a lot of new faces with a handful of established local comics...I went up around the midpoint of the show. I tried out several new jokes in front of a crowd that was tough at times, but I feel like I did okay. May check out Fitz's tonight for an encore...

-Next Hall Of Fame inductee:  Jake "The Snake" Roberts.
-John Cena, Daniel Bryan, & Sheamus O'Shaunessy d. The Shield(U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, & Seth Rollins) by DQ; Reigns powered out of Cena's STF(!) but the Wyatt Family(Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, & Erick Rowan) attacked the face trio for the finish.  Cena, Bryan, & Sheamus fought them off and stood tall to end the show; the win qualified them for the WWE Title Elimination Chamber match.

Anarchy Wrestling TV #417(Seasons' Beatings Highlights Part 1)

-Commentators:  Bret Wolverton & Matt Striker(!).
-Kevin Blue d. Shaun Tempers(w/ Jeff G. Bailey) to retain the Young Lions' Title, getting the flash pin with a rollup out of nowhere.
-Corey Hollis d. Mike Posey with the spinning elbowsmash; promoter Franklin Dove was the special guest referee(he never said it'd be a MATCH, just that Posey would get him in the ring).
-Dove interviewed former Wildside standout A.J. Styles; he told the story of his first visit to the "Church Of Southern Wrestling" and talked about his career in the building.  He brought out Phil Gunner(another alumnus of the building)...but they were interrupted by Posey.  Posey wanted the same respect as the other alumni...but he ran his mouth for a bit too long and took a Styles Clash from A.J.  Gunner made a three-count for fun.
-Mikael Judas fought Se7en(w/ Jeff G. Bailey) to a draw in a last-man-standing match to retain the Heavyweight Title.  Se7en incredibly survived El Crucifijo from Judas and then Judas got up after Se7en's finishing chokeslam.  They bashed each other with chairs at the same time and both men were counted down for ten.

This Year's Rumble Dork Stats(woo)

#1 & #2 Entrants
2014: C.M. Punk & Seth Rollins

Second time Punk has been #1 in the Rumble, putting him on the "unlucky" list. Think he had an early spot in 2011 as well.

Final Entrant
2014: Rey Misterio Jr.

Rey finally gets a better number after starting the Rumble twice in previous years.

Winner:
2014: Batista(#28)

Batista becomes only the fifth person to win more than one Rumble, putting him in exclusive company with Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, and John Cena. Notably, Batista's previous win was also at the #28 spot.

Runner-Up:
Roman Reigns(#15)
Most Eliminations:
12(Roman Reigns in 2014)

Yup, he got the God Push this year. Think it worked if the "Roman Reigns" chant at the end of the Rumble was anything to go by. His full list of eliminations: Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Nash, The Great Khali, Goldust, El Torito, John Bradshaw Layfield, Luke Harper, Antonio Cesaro, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Sheamus O'Shaunessy. Hardly a list of slouches.

Endurance Mark
C.M. Punk(49:25)(honorable mention to Seth Rollins at 48:30)

Figured Punk was going long. Good to see the rest of The Shield getting notice as Seth made it to the endgame; on top of that, Ambrose got a few eliminations and sparked the events that led to Reigns ousting his stablemates.

WWE Royal Rumble

-The New Age Outlaws(Road Dog & Billy Gunn) d. The Brotherhood(Cody Rhodes & Goldust) win the Tag Team Titles; Cody hit the Beautiful Disaster kick on Road Dog, but Billy had blind-tagged into the match and hit the Fameasser on Cody for the win.
-Bray Wyatt(w/ Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) d. Daniel Bryan; Wyatt blocked a suicide dive attempt and hit the Sister Abigail into the ringside barricade, then hit his finisher again in the ring for the finish.
-Brock Lesnar(w/ Paul Heyman) d. The Big Show; Lesnar destroyed Show with a chair before the opening bell, but took a PUNCH after the match officially started.  Lesnar was able to recover and win with the F-5, then dished out more chair abuse after the match.
-Randy Orton d. John Cena to retain the WWE Title; Cena had Orton in the STF when the Wyatt Family members appeared to distract him.  That led to Orton hitting his second RKO of the match and getting the pin.  The Wyatts beat down Cena after the match, ending with Bray's Sister Abigail.
-Royal Rumble:
#1 C.M. Punk
#2 Seth Rollins
#3 Damien Sandow
#4 Cody Rhodes; Punk eliminated Sandow(1).
#5 Kane; he went after Punk but Punk eliminated him(2).
#6 Alexander Rusev(making his main-roster debut)
#7 Jack Swagger(w/ Zeb Colter)
#8 Kofi Kingston
#9 Jimmy Uso
#10 Goldust; several wrestlers ganged up on Rusev to get him out(3).  Kofi was thrown out but Rusev caught him and beat him up, leaving him laying on the edge of the ringside barricade.  Kofi was able to stand up on the barricade and make a running leap to the ring apron to avoid elimination.
#11 U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose
#12 Dolph Ziggler
#13 "R-Truth" Ron Killings; Ambrose(with help from Rollins) eliminated R-Truth(4) and then Jimmy Uso(5).
#14 Kevin Nash; he eliminated Swagger(6).
#15 Roman Reigns; Reigns threw out Kofi(7), Ziggler(8), and Nash(9) in succession.
#16 The Great Khali; the unified Shield trio ganged up on him and Reigns threw him out(10).  Goldust accidentally eliminated Cody(11), then Reigns tossed out Goldust(12).  Punk was left alone with The Shield...
#17 Sheamus O'Shaunessy(returning from injury)
#18 Mike Mizanin
#19 Johnny Fandango(w/ Summer Rae)
#20 El Torito(w/ Los Matadores); the midget hit some highspots and actually eliminated Fandango(13) before Reigns threw him out(14).
#21 Antonio Cesaro(w/ Zeb); Giant Swings ensued.
#22 Luke Harper
#23 Jey Uso
#24 John Bradshaw Layfield; he made a big deal out of removing his suit jacket only to get eliminated right away by Reigns(15).
#25 Erick Rowan; Harper eliminated Miz(16), then the Wyatts double-teamed Jey Uso and threw him ou(17).
#26 Ryback
#27 Alberto Del Rio
#28 Batista; bye Rowan(18), see ya Ryback(19), adios Alberto(20).
#29 Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston
#30 Rey Misterio Jr....the fans(who had already expressed their displeasure with the title match) were NOT happy about Daniel Bryan's absence from the Rumble.

Sheamus eliminated Langston(21) and Rollins eliminated Misterio(22).  Reigns took out Harper(23).  Ambrose suddenly tried to dump Reigns from behind, sparking an argument between the Shield members.  Ambrose and Rollins tried to work on Cesaro but Reigns dumped all three of them at once(24/25/26)!  Rollins gets the endurance honorable mention with a time of 48:30.

The final four were Punk, Reigns, Sheamus, and Batista.  Kane resurfaced at ringside to pull Punk out(27; endurance mark of 49:25), then chokeslammed him through the Spanish announcers' table.  Reigns blocked a Brogue Kick and dumped Sheamus(28), thus breaking Kane's elimination record with twelve.  Batista and Reigns traded spears, but Batista finally threw out Reigns for the win(29).

Midweek wrestling

TNA XPlosion

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Jeremy Borash.
-Samuel Shaw d. Dewey Barnes with a standing head-and-arm guillotine hold.

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, & Lord Tensai.  Ring announcer:  Eden Rhodes.

Adrian Neville vs. Wesley Blake:  Blake is of the wrestling cowboy persuasion, it would appear.  YAY WRESTLING~!  FLIPPIES~!  The hype is underway for the live show at the end of February.  Blake gets a token burst of offense, but this is essentially a showcase for Neville.  Adrian finishes in style with the Red Arrow(corkscrew shooting star press).

Backstage, Devin Taylor interviews the Beautiful Fierce Females(Summer Rae, Sasha Banks, & Charlotte Flair).  Charlotte's been missing in action lately...she's been enjoying the merits of her lineage with all the limousine-riding and jet-flying.  Summer says they'll start the year off right when she destroys Natalya Neidhart tonight.

Xavier Woods vs. Alexander Rusev(w/ Lana Perry):  Woods was punished a few weeks ago with a match against Rusev...this time around, he should be more prepared.  Rusev seems to have acquired more traditional wrestling attire.  Tensai is impressed by Rusev and drops the names of other powerhouses like Brock Lesnar, Batista, and Big E Langston...Byron adds A-Train, har har.  Despite the advance notice, Xavier still has trouble dealing with Rusev's power advantage...Woods tries to stick and move but can't knock him off his feet right away.  A dropkick finally gets him down and a Shining Wizard scores him a near-fall, but Rusev surprises him with a jumping thrust kick.  With Woods down, Rusev gets him in the Accolade(camel clutch) for the tapout.  Lana has to signal for him to release the hold...but she gives another signal and Rusev reapplies the hold.  We need a save...Sin Cara?  Okay...he delivers a flying headscissors and Rusev rolls out of the ring.  Rusev is more annoyed than anything else, but this allows Woods to retreat with the masked man before more damage can be done.

C.J. Parker vs. Antonio Cesaro:  The partisan crowd does NOT like Parker and gives Cesaro a big ovation.  YAY WRESTLING~!  C.J. gets some early offense, but a senton hits the knees and Cesaro targets the back.  Parker comes back with a flying clothesline and jumping side kick, then a double-knee in the corner and cross-body off the top...for two.  C.J. does an airplane spin, but Cesaro's not dizzy in the least and double-legs him into the GIANT SWING~!  After that, the Neutralizer is academic and Cesaro gets the win.

Sami Zayn comes out on a crutch...2013 was the best year of his career and that was partially due to his matches with Cesaro.  The best-of-three-falls match was great, but he didn't win and he wants to redeem himself in that regard.  Rematch?  Cesaro meets him on the entrance ramp and grabs the microphone...one word:  "No."

Backstage, Devin interviews Mike Mizanin.  He thinks he should bring MizTV to NXT...but he's interrupted by C.J. Parker.  Parker does not understand why the fans don't like him...hmm.  Cue confrontation...looks like a match for next week.  C.J. says Miz has a huge carbon footprint with all the toxic waste he's spewing, so he slaps Miz as an "environmental act".

Natalya Neidhart(w/ Bayley Rose) vs. Summer Rae(w/ Sasha Banks):  Renee Young joins the broadcast team for this one.  In the pre-match comments, Nattie wonders if she can make Summer's feet touch her head when she locks her in the Sharpshooter.  So where's Charlotte NOW, I wonder?  They start off technical and Summer gets a jackknife cradle for two, but Natalya bridges out for a backslide attempt before being run back into the turnbuckles.  Nattie comes back with a snapmare, stomp to the back of the head, and basement dropkick...ow.  Summer returns fire with a spinning kick for two, then hooks a sideways figure-four sort of leglock similiar to something Owen Hart once used.  Nattie reverses into her own leghold but Summer gets to the ropes to escape.  These two seem to work REALLY well together as they've had really good bouts on WWE programming as well.  Natalya fights away from Summer's leg work and kicks her out of the ring, then rallies with offense when Summer gets back in the ring.  Nattie catches a second spinning kick attempt and takes her down into the Sharpshooter...welcome to Tapout City.

Backstage, Devin interviews Enzo Amore(still in a wheelchair) & Colin Cassady.  I want a "SAWFT" T-shirt.  Aiden English interrupts the festivities, reminding everyone that he beat Cassady in their match and the singing contest should have gone in his favor.  Big Cass has no time for this and walks away...Enzo just rolls over his foot with the wheelchair.  Ha ha.

NXT Champion Bo Dallas is here to celebrate...he is now the longest-reigning champion in NXT history(out of, like, two other people).  He appreciates the cheers(such as they are) and humbly accepts the accolades.  He thanks his family members in attendance and his fourth-grade history teacher...of course, he also thanks the Bo-lievers as he unveils the banner celebrating his milestone.  Adrian Neville decides to pay a visit...not to congratulate him, as Bo suspects.  Long story short, he wants another shot at the belt.  Bo says Neville beat a "nobody"(Sami Zayn) to earn his title shot and it took him 4:45 to do it...Dallas says it wouldn't take him that long to beat Neville.  Chief Operating Officer Triple H chimes in from the Titantron...how about setting up an opportunity?

NXT Champion Bo Dallas vs. Adrian Neville, 4:45 Challenge:  If Neville can survive the time limit that Bo set up for himself, he earns his title shot on the live NXT special.  Bo's not dressed to wrestle, but the match is RIGHT NOW!  Neville plays it cool as he doesn't have to win outright...the fight spills out of the ring, but Bo trips him up on the edge of the ring by yanking on the apron.  Neville barely beats the ten-count and Bo covers...for two.  Bo gets a few more two-counts but he can't quite keep Neville down.  Neville gets his second wind and rallies on offense...he sets up the Red Arrow but Bo rolls out of the ring.  Bo takes his time outside the ring(forgetting about the clock)...then realizes his mistake and rushes back in.  Neville backdrops him to the floor and the clock runs out...Bo is ticked and charges, but Neville sidesteps and Bo hits the ringpost shoulder-first.  Red Arrow?  Why not?  Neville makes his own three-count...he gets his title shot on February 27th!

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Taz.
-Phil Gunner d. James Storm in a briefcase-on-a-pole match.  Storm got a hold of the case, but Gunner took him down from the ropes with an electric chair drop so Storm didn't have "full possession" of the case.  Gunner fought off Storm and finally got a hold of the briefcase for the victory.
-Austin Aries d. Chris Sabin(w/ Velvet Sky in a cage at ringside) with the brainbuster to win the X-Division Title.  Sabin got a shopping bag from Velvet during the match, but it didn't contain the weapon that Sabin had previously planted in it.
-Kurt Angle d. Bobby Roode in a cage match by escaping the cage, climbing over the top and landing on the floor right before Roode got out through the door.
-Samoa Joe d. Rockstar Spud with the Kokita Clutch.
-Brutus Magnus d. Sting in a no-countout-no-DQ title-vs.-contract match to retain the Heavyweight Title.  Sting had Samoa Joe in his corner, but Dixie Carter sent out Ethan Carter III, Bad Influence(Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian), Shiima Xion, Tag Team Champions The Bro Mans(Robbie Eckos & Jessie Godderz), and Bobby Roode to run interference.  Kurt Angle ran in to help out Sting and Joe, but the numbers were too much in the end.  After two referees were taken out of the equation(Xion pulled out the first one, the second was bumped when Magnus pulled him in the way of a Stinger Splash), Dixie sent in Earl Hebner to make a reluctant three-count after Magnus hit the Mag Daddy Driver.

SICW Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about this past Saturday's SICW show at the Community Center in East Carondelet, IL.

They'll need a bigger building at the rate they're going...the building was packed to say the least. I had trouble finding a place to simply be out of the way...nice problem to have if you're a wrestling promotion, I suppose.

Your ring announcer was Ben Simon, your referees were Michael Crase and Jay King.

"The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher: Gallagher is back to heeldom after a few appearances as a face in SICW. I appreciate blatant heel wins a lot more these days as it seems like too many heels just win clean. If they're not cheating to win, then there isn't nearly as much to hate about them.

"Night Train" Gary Jackson & Big Jim Hoffarth vs. Alexandre Rudolph & Joker: The original match announcement had Rudolph teaming with someone named "Mr. Lucky"(possibly a renamed Waco?). Gary and Rudolph brawled on the floor during the finish and then Rudolph blindsided Gary afterwards, so that's a new feud. Hoffarth continued his winning streak and is now set for a title shot in February.

Travis Cook always seems to stick his nose into the segments with the visiting legends...and he usually pays for it. I wasn't sure what Bushwhacker Luke would do since his best-known signature move involves his cousin and tag partner Butch Miller. So, we got a Stinkface complete with Luke pulling his pants down...thankfully he did have underwear.

Daniel Eads vs. Frankie "The Thumper" Wyatt: These two are from the central Illinois wrestling scene, as are Heath Hatton and Ax Allwardt. Eads is fairly new but is doing well so far. Keep forgetting about the over-the-top-rope DQ rule but we occasionally get reminders of it.

Lucy Mendez vs. Jake Parnell: Lucy was originally scheduled to face Jordynne Grace(who did an interview at the December show), but a few weeks ago it was announced that Lucy would be facing Angelus Layne. Layne had a bad few weeks as she missed St. Louis Anarchy due to illness and missed this show due to transportation problems. This one went pretty well considering it was Parnell's first intergender match and (I think) Lucy's second.

Jake Dirden & Heath Hatton vs. Ken Kasa & Dave Vaughn: Travis Cook was still out of sorts due to the Stinkface earlier in the show, bwahahaha. It looks like Kasa-Dirden isn't quite done yet; this also set up Hatton-Vaughn for the February show.

Chaz Wesson vs. Ax (Allwardt): The Old School Warriors met once again. It looked like Ax might pull off a slight upset when he cut off Chaz's attempt at a top-rope move, but Wesson pulled out the win in the end.

Ron Powers vs. Flash Flanagan, referee Ricky Cruz: Ricky has history with both men, though his feud with Flash is a more recent issue. It had been pushed on the television show that Ricky was frustated over his lack of title shots and felt like he had to "do the promoter a favor" in the form of the guest ref stint. Cruz called it down the middle in the beginning with some subtle favoring of Powers. It even got the point where Flash hung onto Cruz when Powers attempted a sunset flip, prompting Ricky to punch him away. However, the finish went down...and the guy who had been the undisputed top face for the past two or three years turned heel. So who's the top face now: Powers? Dirden? I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Right now, February looks like this:

-Saturday 2/1: Dynamo at Stratford Inn in Fenton, MO
-Saturday 2/8: MMWA at South Broadway in St. Louis, MO
-Saturday 2/15: SICW in East Carondelet, IL
-Tuesday 2/18: Dynamo at Off Broadway in St. Louis, MO
-Friday 2/28(+ Saturday 3/1): St. Louis Anarchy in Alton, IL

Haven't heard anything about upcoming shows for NWA Central States. WLW had the grand opening of their training center this past Saturday, but they haven't announced any shows in the St. Louis area yet. Wow, one month of 2014 already in the books...

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

-Commentators:  Kevin Kelly, Steve Corino, & Prince Nana(for the first half of the show).
-Top Prospect Tournament:  Andrew Everett d. The Romantic Touch via small package.  Veda Scott came out during the match and accused the masked newcomer of being Rhett Titus; the distraction led to the finish.
-Top Prospect Tournament:  Todd Hanson d. Cheeseburger after a spinning kick.
-Mark Briscoe vs. Adam Page never got started as The Decade(Roderick Strong, B.J. Whitmer, & Jimmy Jacobs) interrupted.  They wanted Briscoe to join them and took a cheapshot at Page, but Briscoe fought with Page to clear the trio out of the ring.  That led to an impromptu tag match...
-B.J. Whitmer & Jimmy Jacobs d. Mark Briscoe & Adam Page; Whitmer pinned Page after a Dominator/neckbreaker drop combo with Jacobs.  Roderick Strong did commentary.
-Tommaso Ciampa d. Silas Young to retain the T.V. Title by countering a pin attempt into the Sicilian Stretch(Rings Of Saturn).  Former champion Matt Taven had offered to shake Ciampa's hand before the match but Silas attacked him before Ciampa could accept the gesture.  Jay Lethal did commentary and entered the ring to stop a post-match attack by Silas; Lethal and Young fought and Taven re-entered to clear Silas out of the ring.

SICW Wrestling Explosion

-Commentator:  Larry Matysik.

-Flashback to December 1981:  Ric Flair d. Roy Rogers with the figure-four leglock.

Anarchy Wrestling TV #416

-Commentators:  Bret Wolverton & Jonathan Feltner.
-The Urban Assault Squad(Shadow Jackson & Nemesis d. The Vandal & Alex Avgerinos to retain the Tag Team Titles; Vandal abandoned his partner and Shadow pinned Avgerinos after a double atomic facebuster.  Vandal handed the belts to Shadow & Nemesis afterwards and shook hands with them...ladies and gentlemen, we have a heel turn.  Nemesis declared that they would be sitting out Seasons' Beatings, but Bill Behrens had a different opinion:  They would be defending against Jeremy Vain & Brodie Ray Chase.  Slim J made a case for himself and Iceberg to get a shot, then Dany Only came out to add himself and Stryknyn to the mix.  Behrens announced it would be a four-way match for the Tag Team Titles at Seasons' Beatings.
-Kevin Blue d. C.B. Suave with the Blue Cross(Air Raid Crash) to retain the Young Lions' Title; Shaun Tempers did commentary and announced that he would be challenging for Blue's title at Seasons' Beatings.
-B.J. Hancock & Joey Rhymer(w/ Bo Newsom) d. Ace Rockwell & Todd Sexton when Rhymer pinned Rockwell after a Brogue Kick by Hancock.  The heels dished out some post-match abuse but Seth Delay & Salvatore Rinauro ran in to even the odds; Todd finally ran the heels off with a chair.  Sexton challenged Miss Rachael's stable to a ten-man tag at Seasons' Beatings:  Himself, Rockwell, Rinauro, Delay, and Steven Walters against Anthony Henry, Hancock, Rhymer, Newsom, and a partner of their choice.
-Match 2 Of Best-Of-3 Series For Held-Up T.V. Title:  Billy Buck d. Bobby Moore in a bullrope match; he tagged three turnbuckles, then took out Moore with his own loaded elbowpad before tagging the final corner.

Saturday SICW Results From East Carondelet, IL

-Brandon Gallagher d. Shorty Biggs; Gallagher held onto the referee to block the Shortcut(corkscrew snapmare driver), then got the pin with feet on the ropes.
-Gary Jackson & Big Jim Hoffarth d. Alexandre Rudolph & Joker; Jackson and Rudolph fought outside the ring and Hoffarth slammed Joker before pinning him with the big splash.  Gary and Jim celebrated their win but Rudolph attacked Gary from behind and frontslammed him before Hoffarth ran him off.
-Promoter Herb Simmons interviewed Bushwhacker Luke Williams, but they were interrupted by Travis Cook.  Cook claimed that SICW was bringing in all the big stars of the past to leech off his stable's drawing power...in response, Luke asked Herb to leave the ring so he could deal with Travis personally. Luke cornered Travis but Dave Vaughn jumped him from behind...the Bushwhacker fought off Vaughn and beat down Cook in the corner before delivering a Stinkface!
-Daniel Eads d. Frank Wyatt by DQ when Wyatt threw Eads over the top rope.  Wyatt was upset about the decision and tossed Eads out of the ring again, but finally retreated when Eads re-entered the ring with payback on his mind.
-Herb Simmons interviewed Lucy Mendez and announced that Angelus Layne was unable to appear due to transportation problems.  "Gentleman" Jake Parnell entered the ring and said he would face Mendez in an intergender match...but his disrespectful attitude earned him a slap from Lucy.
-Lucy Mendez d. Jake Parnell in an intergender match.  Parnell got frustrated over his inability to finish off Mendez and brought a chair into the ring; the referee stopped him from using it and Lucy capitalized with a kick to the groin as the referee was getting the chair out of the ring.  Lucy followed up with a DDT to get the win.
-Classic Champion Ken Kasa & Dave Vaughn(w/ Travis Cook) d. Jake Dirden & Heath Hatton.  The Travis Cook Organization had a few moments of miscommunication that allowed Dirden & Hatton to take advantage.  Kasa and Dirden fought on the floor as Vaughn speared Hatton for the victory.
-Chaz Wesson d. Ax Allwardt with a sunset flip out of the corner.
-Flash Flanagan d. Ron Powers with Ricky Cruz as the special guest referee.  Ricky seemed to call the match down the middle, but he appeared to be favoring Powers at times.  Late in the match, Flanagan swung at Powers and hit Cruz by mistake; as Cruz was dazed from the shot, he didn't see Powers covering after a powerslam.  Powers hit a diving headbutt off the middle rope and Cruz recovered enough to make a slow two-and-a-half count.  Cruz encouraged Powers to finish off Flanagan with the piledriver...but as Powers set up for the move, Cruz shockingly superkicked him and fast-counted Flanagan's pin!  Cruz and Flanagan both stomped on the fallen Powers after the match; Jake Dirden hit the ring to help but took a superkick from Cruz as well.  Powers finally brought a chair into the ring and that convinced Cruz and Flanagan to retreat...

NXT + Impact

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, & Lord Tensai.  Ring announcer:  Alexa Bliss.

Chief Operating Officer Triple H pays a visit...once the WWE Network is launched, there will be a live edition of NXT on the debut week(February 27th, to be exact).  Goodie...think they'll be loading up that show?

Adrian Neville vs. Tyler Breeze:  Breeze cost Neville his shot at NXT Champion Bo Dallas during a lumberjack match, so we have this bout.  The fans are divided in this one.  YAY WRESTLING~! to start and Neville snaps off a rana, sending Breeze rolling out to the floor.  Adrian does a FLIPPY~! fakeout before Breeze finally re-enters the ring...Neville gets the edge and rams Breeze into the turnbuckle(NOT THE FACE~!).  Breeze does NOT like being chopped and tosses Adrian over the ropes...Neville lands on the apron, but Breeze pulls off a Jericho-style dropkick from the middle rope to send him to the floor.

Breeze maintains control and keeps his opponent grounded, stopping for a selfie or two...but that time-wasting allows Neville to recover and hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker.  A spinkick to the gut sets up a low-altitude dropkick to NOTTHEFACE~!...for two.  Neville goes for a springboard move but eats a dropkick in mid-air...and Breeze gets two.  Beauty Shot(spinning heel kick)...is ducked by Neville and he hits a big roundhouse kick!  Adrian goes to the second rope for a Phoenix Splash(!)...nothing but mat and Breeze covers...for two.  Beauty Shot attempt number two is blocked into a sitout powerbomb...for two.  Neville goes to the top rope but Breeze grabs his foot for dear life...they fight on the turnbuckles until Breeze hits the ropes to a well-placed tripup.  Top-rope Frankensteiner(!) is blocked and Breeze hits the mat hard.  Adrian's in perfect position for the Red Arrow(corkscrew shooting star press)...he hits it and that's the ballgame!

C.J. Parker vs. Jason Jordan:  Haven't seen much of Jordan in a long time...he was out with an injury.  Fans still don't like Parker...Jordan outwrestles him in the opening exchange and gets a few two-counts out of it.  C.J. stops him by ducking out of an O'Connor Roll attempt, causing Jordan to hit the ropes rather painfully.  Parker follows up with a Harlem Side Kick...then the Third Eye(uppercut palm strike) for the quick win.

NXT Champion Bo Dallas vs. Mojo Rawley, non-title:  It is my understanding that Mr. Rawley remains hyped...this will be his toughest test to date.  The fans apparently want No More Bo.  Dallas tries to match power with him...um. no.  HE AIN'T HYPED~!  Now the fans seem to think Bo looks like Pocahontas...and a single shoulderblock sends Bo reeling right out of the ring.  Rawley is ready to go, but Dallas decides to take his time on the ring apron.  Bo brawls his way into an advantage...the commentators tell us that Dallas is wearing white because he feels he's as "pure as the driven BO~!"  Mojo turns things around with more shoulderblocks and a pair of Stinger Splashes...so Dallas decides the apron looks good for now.  Rawley tosses him back in and goes for one more Stinger Splash...nothing but turnbuckles and Bo rolls him up with a handful of tights for the cheap win(HEEL~!).

Kofi Kingston vs. Alexander Rusev(w/ Lana Perry):  This is a rematch from a few weeks ago when a slight distraction by Lana allowed Rusev to get a surprise win.  Tensai notes that he trained with Kofi in the past week so he could get used to dealing with a larger opponent.  Rusev's too strong for Kofi to deliver a standard headlock takedown...Kofi goes for the kicks but gets overpowered again.  A flying elbowsmash merely staggers Rusev and the Bulgarian simply shrugs off a monkeyflip attempt.  Rusev slows the pace, cutting off a brief flurry by Kingston to keep him down.  Kofi manages to toss Rusev out of the ring at a key moment, but Rusev evades a baseball slide and beats him down.  Rusev whips Kofi toward the ring steps, but Kofi leapfrogs them and then uses the steps as a stepping stone for a big flying clothesline...that FINALLY gets the big guy off his feet!

Kofi tries to keep his stronger opponent down but Rusev backs him into the corner to get away.  Kofi tries to pummel him in the corner and Rusev walks him out into a powerbomb!  Cover...gets two.  Time to get methodical again...the fans chant "Feed Me More" and then "Goldberg" for some reason.  Now they do the wave...okay then.  Kofi finally pulls out a headscissors from the mat and unloads with some chops and a dropkick.  Cross-body...is caught and Rusev knees him in the ropes, then goes for the fallaway Samoan Drop only to get crucifixed...for two.  Rusev powers Kofi back into the turnbuckles but runs into a swinging kick out of the ropes.  Kofi springboards into another cross-body and gets caught AGAIN; this time Rusev hits the fallaway Samoan Drop...for two.  Kofi comes up with the S.O.S out of nowhere...for two.  Kingston turns up the pressure with a series of kicks, but Rusev ducks the last one and Vader-Smashes him...for two!  Kofi slips out of the Accolade(camel clutch) setup and hits the ropes for another big flying clothesline.  Boom Drop hits...time for Trouble In Paradise?  Lana yells at him again, but Kofi's not THAT distracted and avoids the incoming avalanche...Trouble In Paradise HITS and Kofi gets the hard-fought victory!

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Taz.
-Samoa Joe, James Storm, Phil Gunner, Eric Young, Joseph Park, & O.D.B. d. Tag Team Champions The Bro Mans(Robbie Eckos & Jessie Godderz), Bad Influence(Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian), Shiima Xion, & Lei'D Tapa when Joe made Daniels tap out to the Kokita Clutch.
-Bully Ray d. Ken Anderson in a no-DQ match; a piece of guardrail and two tables came into play, but Ray got the win after a low blow and piledriver.
-Madison Rayne d. Gail Kim(w/ Lei'D Tapa) to win the Women's Title.  Tapa blatantly interfered and the referee ejected her from ringside rather than call for a disqualification.  Madison beat the ten-count after a ringpost figure-four leglock and got the win out of nowhere with the Rayne Drop(Overdrive neckbreaker onto the knee).
-Backstage, Dixie Carter spoke to the newest members of the TNA roster:  American Wolves Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards.  There was some confusion about their contract status as it turned out a "new TNA investor" already signed their deal.
-Ethan Carter III d. Sting; Rockstar Spud was the special guest referee.  Spud blatantly attacked Sting when he got EC3 in the Scorpion Deathlock, but Sting threw him off and hit Ethan with the Scorpion Death Drop.  Before Sting could force Spud to count the pin, Heavyweight Champion Brutus Magnus pulled Spud out of the ring and revealed his own referee shirt.  EC3 rolled up Sting and Magnus jumped in to fast-count three.

-The Prime Time Players(Titus O'Neil & Darren Young) d. The 3-Man Band(Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre, & Jinder Mahal) in a handicap match when Young surprised Drew with a crucifix pin on the mat.  Heath demanded a restart, but Raw General Manager Brad Maddox put 3MB in a different match.

Punk & The New Age Outlaws(Road Dog & Billy Gunn); the Outlaws walked out on Punk late in the match, leaving him to be speared by Reigns for the pin.  The Shield members laid out Punk with the triple-team spike powerbomb after the bell.
-Women's Champion A.J. Lee & Tamina Snuka d. The Funkadactyls(Naomi Night & Cameron Lynn) when A.J. pinned Cameron after the Shining Wizard.  Emma Tayla was spotted dancing in the audience before the match.  Naomi cleaned house on both Tamina and A.J. afterwards.
-First Hall Of Fame inductee for 2014:  The Ultimate Warrior.
-Kofi Kingston d. WWE Champion Randy Orton(non-title) by countering a hanging DDT attempt into the SOS for the upset win...wait, WHAT?!?  Orton snapped after the loss and attacked John Cena's father(who was sitting in the front row), leading to Cena running him off before checking on his dad.
-Tag Team Champions The Brotherhood(Cody Rhodes & Goldust) d. Ryback & Curtis Axel when Cody pinned Axel after the Crossrhodes.
-Alberto Del Rio d. Rey Misterio Jr. with the cross-armbreaker.
-Jimmy & Jey Uso d. Bray Wyatt & Daniel Bryan(w/ Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) by escaping the cage, diving onto Harper & Rowan to reach the floor(Kane had locked the door).  It looked like Bryan would take his medicine again...but then Bryan realized he had Bray to himself with Harper & Rowan locked outside the cage.  After much teasing, Bryan FINALLY went to town on Wyatt and threw off the jumpsuit to reveal his traditional wrestling gear underneath.  He took out Wyatt with the flying knee strike, then led the fans in the "YES~!" chant to end the show.

MMWA Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Mid-Missouri Wrestling Allance show at the South Broadway Athletic Club in St. Louis, MO.

It was a packed house at the SBAC...the winter storm was a thing of the past as the snow had mostly melted and the temperatures were in the 40s. I imagine a lot of people were happy to get out of the house and do something for the weekend.

Your ring announcer was Ben Simon, your referees were Nick Ridenour(another ref name I forgot in previous comments!) and Jay King.

It's turning into a monthly tradition for Brandon Espinosa and Lynn Mephisto to start the show with a promo segment...along with the complaints about their respective title losses in December, they made fun of Jim Harris for being relegated to a seat in the audience. However...may I have your attention please, Ben Simon has just received a text message from the currently-anonymous MMWA Commissioner! Glad they didn't draw THAT out any longer than necessary...heh. The statement boiled down to "Quit holding up the show and get ready for your matches. Oh yeah, you're in the battle royal."

The big man who made his debut appearance in December made his in-ring debut...he was billed at around 350 lbs. but looks even bigger. Da'Marius Jones had a rough night, though he did get in SOME token offense. Barackus dropped him with a unique finisher(clawhold into a Sister Abigail-esque Flatliner) and the referee stopped the match on a knockout. This guy looks at his hand a lot...

The battle royal had only six participants; Espinosa and Mephisto were former Battle Royal Champions so Mephisto have a chance to regain the title he lost in December. The feud between Jr. Heavyweight Champion Andrew Wilder and Ace Hawkins continued as Hawkins eliminated Wilder, but Ace was dropped to the floor by Webmaster Stevie K shortly after that. Stevie was left alone with Espinosa and Mephisto, but a series of backfired double-teams led to the Webmaster eliminating Mephisto and Espy to retain his title. No Gary Jackson distraction this time around, thus no excuses for Mephisto. Stevie also earned a shot at Jimmy D's T.V. Title later in the night...double gold?

I can honestly say that was the best Moondog Rover-Jackson Whitechapel match of their recent series. MMWA had posted online that commentator(and recent Whitechapel associate) Sean Orleans had been suspended for a month due to a backstage "incident". Wonder if that will be the storyline explanation for Whitechapel's loss...he has lost some weight since the first time I saw him, but I think the "big man" status has officially been taken by Barackus now.

The tag match started with an immediate brawl so the ring introductions didn't take place...this ended up being important afterwards, notably. Wilder took the cheap way out of the match with a low blow for the DQ...which makes more sense if he's defending his title but not so much in a tag match. The anonymous commissioner had set it up so that the Wilder-Hawkins stipulation for February would be set by the winning team...so Wilder's move backfired on him. On a side note, Freddie Fury was an odd choice for Wilder's tag partner...they could use more heel junior heavyweights, I suspect.

Jimmy D has foregone the Red Sox jersey in favor of a Red Sox decal on the title belt itself...well played. Random finish to the match since D has a different opponent on the February show, but it set up a statement from the Commish later in the show(warning him to not pull that trick to retain his title again).

Dave Osborne was the face against Espinosa in December and he worked as a face against A.J. Williams here. South Broadway is notable for having separate face and heel entranceways on opposite sides of the building(though Gary Jackson still insists on using the heel door despite having been a solid face for a while :)). These guys seem to work well together; good underdog/powerhouse dynamic along the lines of Jojo-Elgin at SLA. Barackus screwed over Osborne once again as his presence distracted Osborne long enough for A.J. to hit the superkick for the win...then Barackus took him out with his finisher afterwards.

The main event was barely contained by the ring and that spillled over into the double countout finish. Barackus was officially revealed to be aligned with Espy and Mephisto; he attacked Espy at the December show, thus getting Osborne DQed and allowing Espy to retain the Heavyweight Title at the time.

They had hinted pretty heavily in December that Jim Harris would be the new Commissioner; Tim Miller stepped down from that post for unknown reasons. It's nice when foreshadowing actually pays off as opposed to a wrestling company swerving for the sake of TEH SWERVEZ~! Announcements: Barackus suspended for a month, Brian James vs. Brandon Espinosa next month, "something special" planned for Mephisto, and the aforementioned(in this commentary) warning to Jimmy D.

NWA Central States Championship Wrestling made its Missouri debut on Saturday in St. Robert. It looks like they drew a decent number of fans, so that's good for them. I don't know if Missouri licensing was any sort of issue, but a few names on the announced lineup didn't compete: Shane Fury, Chris Logan, Mitch Johnson, Marcello Spade, and Justa Mazing. The show had five matches with the main event turning into an impromptu tag bout. I keep up on their shows via NWA Affliction on YouTube when I don't get to an event.

At any rate, it was a fun doubleheader weekend. Shoutouts to some of those who tolerated my presence at the shows: Brian Kelley from Missouri Wrestling Revival, Drew Abbenhaus, Gary Weiss, Bill Adams, Luke Roberts, Chris Roedel. Officially met Geek Singh for the first time on Friday; had seen him a few times at Dynamo shows before that. There were plenty more and I have trouble keeping names and faces straight, so forgive me on that note...
