Comedy Part 512: Comedian Needs Sleep Badly

Location: Fitz's
Emcee: Jon Venegoni
After: Stryker Spurlock
Before: Ben Johnson

Despite not getting off work today(Friday), I ventured out to Fitz's for Thursday Night Mic Night...Steve Poggi was in town and I hadn't seen him since he moved back to California. I didn't have a lot of new stuff to try, but we didn't get as much time due to the sheer number of comics(around thirty!). On top of that, I went up late in the show...only Ben and Erik Anker went on after me. I did okay, all things considered...and my main new joke went over pretty well with the remaining audience. Not enough hours in the week to eat, sleep, work, watch TEH RASSLIN, and get out to comedy shows...

WWE Raw

-Commentators:  Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-The show started with the return of Hulk Hogan; he's the guest host for WrestleMania XXX.
-Alberto Del Rio d. Batista when WWE Champion Randy Orton made a big entrance, distracting Batista long enough for Alberto to roll him up for the pin.
-Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston d. Antonio Cesaro(w/ Zeb Colter & Jack Swagger) by DQ(non-title); Big E was thrown out of the ring but nailed Swagger before he could take a cheapshot.  Cesaro got Big E in the giant swing but Swagger jumped in the ring to grab Langston in the Patriot Lock(anklelock), getting his partner disqualified.  The Real Americans argued, but Langston attacked Swagger and Cesaro came to his aid by hitting Big E with the Neutralizer.
-Sheamus O'Shaunessy d. Christian Cage; Christian tried for a move off the second rope and got Brogue-Kicked in mid-air for the finish.
-Daniel Bryan d. Kane with the flying knee strike.
-Emma Tayla(w/ Santino Marella) d. Summer Rae(w/ Johnny Fandango) with the Emma Lock(inverted STF).
-Jimmy & Jey Uso d. Tag Team Champions The New Age Outlaws(Road Dog & Billy Gunn)(non-title); Jimmy superkicked Road Dog right after his usual introduction, then Jey disposed of Gunn while Jimmy finished off Road Dog with the splash off the top rope.
-Bray Wyatt d. Roman Reigns by DQ; Luke Harper & Erick Rowan showed up but Seth Rollins entered out of nowhere with a huge somersault plancha.  U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose joined the fight on the floor, but entered the ring to attack Wyatt as Reigns was setting up for the spear(getting his teammate disqualified).  The Shield members fought off the Wyatts and held the high ground after the match.
-The show ended with an appearance by Brock Lesnar(w/ Paul Heyman)...and the return of The Undertaker.

WWE Elimination Chamber

-The Brotherhood(Cody Rhodes & Goldust) d. Ryback & Curtis Axel(w/ Larry "The Axe" Hennig) when Cody pinned Axel after the Crossrhodes.
-Big E Langston d. Jack Swagger(w/ Zeb Colter) with the Big Ending to retain the Intercontinental Title.
-The New Age Outlaws(Road Dog & Billy Gunn) d. Jimmy & Jey Uso to retain the Tag Team Titles when Billy rolled up Jimmy Uso for the pin.
-Titus O'Neil d. Darren Young with the Clash Of The Titus(Skyhigh).
-Bray Wyatt & The Wyatt Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) d. The Shield(U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, & Seth Rollins); Wyatt took out Ambrose on the arena floor and Harper and Rowan double-chokeslammed Rollins from the main broadcast table through the Spanish table.  Reigns fought the odds and powered out of Sister Abigail before spearing Harper, but Bray hit the Sister Abigail on the second try for the pin on Reigns.
-Cameron Lynn d. Women's Champion A.J. Lee(w/ Tamina Snuka) by DQ; Tamina accidentally superkicked A.J. when Cameron ducked out of the way, so Tamina broke up Cameron's pin attempt after that for the disqualification.
-Batista d. Alberto Del Rio with the Demon Bomb.
-Elimination Chamber:  Order of entry:  Sheamus O'Shaunessy and Antonio Cesaro(w/ Zeb Colter), Daniel Bryan, Christian Cage, John Cena, and WWE Champion Randy Orton.  Eliminations:  Christian pinned Sheamus after Orton superplexed Sheamus and Christian followed up with the frog splash.  Bryan pinned Christian after the flying knee strike.  Cena made Cesaro tap out to the STF.  LIGHTS OFF LIGHTS ON led to the Wyatts somehow appearing in the Chamber to attack Cena and Bryan; Bray dropped Cena with Sister Abigail, allowing Orton to pin him.  Director Of Operations Kane came out to eject the Wyatts but Bryan took him out with the flying knee strike.  Bryan survived an RKO and came back with a buzzsaw kick, but Kane stunned him with a cheapshot and Orton hit a second RKO for the final win.

Anarchy Wrestling TV #421

Quick TNA note:  The American Wolves(Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) defeated The Bro Mans(Robbie Eckos & Jessie Godderz) for the Tag Team Titles at today's house show in Morgantown, West Virginia.

-----

Commentators:  Bret Wolverton & Jonathan Feltner.

Mike Posey(w/ Corey Hollis) assures us that there are NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER between himself and his tag team partner.  His partner's a bit young and naive but that's okay because he's gonna win the T.V. Title from Billy Buck.  He sends Corey to the back to prepare for that match...

Frankie Valentine vs. Mike Posey:  I believe this is Valentine's Anarchy debut; the fans chant for him out of sheer hatred for Posey.  He has a fine showing against the more experienced Posey, nearly getting the win with a rana.  Posey returns fire with a double-underhook hanging neckbreaker...for two.  Valentine recovers with an atomic drop and Russian legsweep...for two.  He tries for an O'Connor Roll, but Posey rolls through into his own pin with a handful of tights.  CHEAT TO WIN~!

Miss Rachael(w/ Anthony Henry, B.J. Hancock, & newcomer-to-the-fold Shane Marx) enlightens us.  She gloats about her stable putting Todd Sexton out of wrestling...Sexton's theme music starts up, but it's Joey Rhymer in a bald skullcap and Magic Marker facial hair...har har.  Again, we're pushing the boundaries of the stable restrictions as I see four guys under Rachael's management and the limit was set at three.  Brodie Ray Chase(speaking for the evening's opposition) jokes about Rhymer's getup as the fans chant "Condom Head".  He conducts a popularity poll with regards to Rachael and the other team's valet Ginger...no surprise how that turns out.  Rhymer take exception and shoves Brodie, earning a slap for his efforts.

Ryan Hunter, Kameron Kade, Lars Manderson, & Jeremy Foster(w/ "The Stray Cat" Brodie Ray Chase & Ginger) vs. "The Five-Star King" Anthony Henry, "The Modern Classic" B.J. Hancock, Joey Rhymer, & "The Revelation" Shane Marx(w/ Miss Rachael):  The newer quartet looks good for a little while, but Rachael's guys finally get it together and isolate Foster.  We're told that Henry and Marx were originally scheduled as opponents, but Rachael reorganized things to get her charges on the same side(she manageS Marx in other promotions).

Manderson finally gets a tag and takes advantage of some miscommunication between Henry and Marx...Manderson hits a big chokeslam/spinebuster hybrid on Hancock and tags in Kade for a Macho Elbow...Henry breaks up the pin and takes out Kade with a released German suplex.  Hunter enters and takes out Henry with his own released German suplex, only for Marx to drop Hunter with a flying neckbreaker.  Foster hits Marx with a flying double-knee but Rhymer takes out Foster with a modified teardrop suplex.  That leaves Manderson and Rhymer and Lars gorilla-presses Rhymer, dropping him onto his partners at ringside!  Hancock blindsides Manderson and goes for the piledriver on Kade only to get backdropped.  B.J. hangs onto the ropes to block a fireman's-carry move...and that allows him to maneuver into the piledriver on the second try.  1-2-3.

Ginger confronts Rachael after the match...and without hesitation, Hancock grabs the new girl and drops HER with the piledriver!  Rachael's stablemates take their leave as the other guys check on the fallen Ginger...

"The Sin City Saint" Brandon Parker & Joey Romano vs. Hot Commodity(C.B. Suave & "The Italion Stallion" Tommy Penirelli):  Parker's looking for a new teammate with Kevin Blue focusing on his singles career as Young Lions' Champion.  On the other side, Suave has a title shot of his choice in the proverbial bank and Penirelli isn't happy about his partner's recent singles glory.  Parker cleans house after a hot tag and drops Suave with Paydirt, but Penirelli shoves Parker away and Romano tags back in.  Romano goes for a cross-body off the top rope, but Penirelli rolls through straight into the anklelock for the tapout!  Suave poses after the match despite his partner scoring the win...

Alex Avgerinos vs. "Hit For Hire" Bobby Moore:  Moore is in a lousy mood after losing the T.V. Title and is looking to make an example out of Avgerinos.  The fans remind Moore that he's a "quitter"(thanks to the I Quit Match at Seasons' Beatings).  Moore steamrolls his opponent but Alex won't go down easily...a flying boot finally ends it.

Ace Rockwell & Steven "The Fever" Walters vs. The Washington Bullets(Jon & Trey Williams):  Rockwell and Walters have plenty of tag team experience with other partners, but the Bullets are both brothers and former champions.  After a strong start for Rockwell and Walters, the Bullets manage to keep Ace in their corner for several minutes.  Rockwell nearly gets in position for a tag, but the Bullets knock Walters off the apron to stop that.  Ace fights on his own and drops Trey with a belly-to-back superplex...time for a Race To Tag!  Tag to Jon, tag to Walters!  The house is on fire...there were a lot of tag matches on this week's show, weren't there?  Walters has the momentum, but Trey re-enters the fray allowing Jon to drop Walters with a flying roundhouse kick.  Ace gets back into the fight, but he gets caught by Jon for the Bullets' Snake Eyes/enzuigiri combo!  Chaos breaks loose and Walters gets Jon in the STF, but the referee suddenly decides he should stop Ace from diving onto Trey on the floor.  Trey gets back in the ring and Walters releases the hold to fight him off...but Trey drops him with a Rough Ryder leg lariat.  The Bullets celebrate a bit too much and Ace drops Jon with the Aces High(Diamond Cutter), then disposes of Trey while Walters gets the pin!

Next week:  Buck vs. Hollis for the T.V. Title.

Weekend wrestling

ROH TV

-Commentators:  Kevin Kelly & Steve Corino.
-Cedric Alexander d. Andrew Everett; Alexander raised the knees to block a 630 Splash, then got the win with the Lumbar Check(belly-to-back suplex into a double-knee backbreaker).  Roderick Strong did commentary and wasn't happy about Alexander finishing with a backbreaker variant...
-Kevin Steen d. Tag Team Champion Kyle O'Reilly with the Sharpshooter.  Cliff Compton tried to distract Steen from the audience and the two finally brawled after the match, throwing aside any referees and security guards who tried to break it up.  It ended with Compton stunning Steen with a series of low blows, then jumping off the top rope to splash Steen through a table on the floor.
-Next week:  A.J. Styles vs. Jay Lethal, plus Tommaso Ciampa vs. Todd Hanson for the T.V. Title.

SICW Wrestling Explosion

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Jeremy Borash.
-Gail Kim d. "Portugal's Perfect Athlete" Shanna after the Eat-The-Feet.

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, & Lord Tensai.  Ring announcer:  Brandi Rhodes.

NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension(Konnor O'Brian & Rick Viktor) vs. Casey Marion & Mike Leboska, non-title:  While winter has taken a brief sabbatical in my neck of the woods in favor of monsoon season, it would appear squash is in season in Orlando.  The fans chant "Let's Go Jobbers" as Viktor manhandles Marion, then throws him right into Leboska to knock him off the apron.  Double hiptoss-into-a-double powerbomb sets up the Fall Of Man(legsweep/flying European uppercut combo) and Viktor gets the academic pin on Marion.

Tyler Breeze has entered the building.

Emma Tayla(w/ Bayley Rose) vs. Summer Rae(w/ Sasha Banks & Charlotte Flair):  Tensai marks out for the BUBBLES~!  Summer throws away one of Bayley's signs(borrowed from Emma's main-roster appearances) and Emma rolls her up for a one-count.  The two trade pin attempts in the early going, but Summer knees Emma in the head and shoves her to the floor.  Sasha and Charlotte tease some involvement but hesitate with Bayley around...Summer still maintains control for a while.  Emma whiffs on a dropkick and Summer goes for a leg-applied full nelson, but Emma rolls her back into a pin attempt...for two.

Summer goes into a more traditional full nelson and turns that into her own pin attempt...for two.  Emma turns it around with the Dil-Emma(Tarantula), then hits the low cross-body with Summer slumped in the corner.  Summer kicks her away from a potential Emma Lock(inverted STF) and Sasha manages to slap Emma behind the referee's back, allowing Summer to roll up Emma...for two!  Emma throws Summer into Sasha, sending her flying off the apron into Charlotte...and Emma takes Summer down into the Emma Lock for the tapout!  She's ready for her shot at NXT Women's Champion Paige Knight next week!

Backstage, Devin Taylor interviews Tyler Breeze.  He is NOT fond of the prospect of an "uggo" like Adrian Neville winning the NXT Title next week and becoming the "Face Of NXT".

Backstage, Renee Young conducts a sitdown interview with Sami Zayn and Antonio Cesaro regarding their rematch.  There's a no-contact rule in effect:  Zayn can't challenge for the NXT Title again if he violates it, Cesaro will be pulled from the Elimination Chamber if he violates it.  Zayn will be medically cleared in time for ArRIVAL(though Cesaro expresses his doubts).  Cesaro keeps interrupting Zayn's attempts to talk and Renee finally takes her leave.  Zayn says he needs this match to advance his career and Cesaro won't be able to do anything about it...Cesaro is finally left speechless and walks away.

Backstage:  The nameless interviewer talks to Emma...she beat Summer Rae and she'll meet Paige face-to-face next week.

Adrian Neville vs. Tyler Breeze:  Breeze cost Neville his previous shot at NXT Champion Bo Dallas; Neville defeated Breeze a few weeks ago but Breeze wanted this rematch.  Tyler stalls for selfies as usual, but it's down to business once the opening bell rings.  Neville brings the FLIPPIES~! but Breeze cuts him off with a corner dropkick...he seems more focused, but he still stops for another selfie so he can fix his hair.  Adrian fires back with his kicks and rams Breeze into the turnbuckles(NOT THE FACE~!), then drops him on his face for an early near-fall.  Neville takes his time and gets thrown to the floor as a result, but Breeze whiffs on a middle-rope dropkick with Adrian on the apron.  Neville leapfrogs Breeze who tumbles through the ropes, then Neville dropkicks him to the floor.  Time to fly...and he hits a huge twisting somersault plancha!

Neville re-enters with a missile dropkick...for two.  Tyler stuns Adrian with a jawbreaker and tries a rana...but Neville blocks it and hits a Demon Bomb for two!  Back to the ropes...Neville attempts a springboard move and Breeze goes for a dropkick too early, allowing Adrian to stop himself in time.  Looks like a major error on Breeze's part...but he surprises Neville with a superkick out of nowhere!  Breeze slowly goes for the cover...and gets 2 1/2.  Beauty Shot(spinning heel kick) is ducked and Neville hits the enzuigiri, then nails another one with Breeze in the corner.  Looks like it's time to go back to the third floor...Red Arrow(corkscrew shooting star press) hits and that'll do it!

Neville speaks on his upcoming title shot, but Bo Dallas decides to congratulate his contender personally.  Neville's a good up-and-comer and jokes about how he's climbing the ladder of success...see what he did there?  Bo doesn't hate him...he's a good kid!  Adrian thinks he's scared...he offers Bo a free shot and the champ takes off his suit jacket and title belt before rolling up his sleeves.  However, he leaves the ring instead...they'll fight next week!

Next week:  ArRIVAL~!

Dynamo Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about last night's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at Off Broadway in St. Louis, Missouri.

With the Sports Academy in Glen Carbon booked solid for the winter months, Dynamo has branched out to Missouri venues in recent months. That started with a show at this particular building last November. Despite the short notice of the show announcement and the scheduling of the show on Tuesday night, it drew a decent amount of people. This show had more advance notice and had a similar attendance situation...the audience started small but gradually grew over the course of the night.

Very cool environment for a wrestling show...as previously noted, it'd be a good setup for a TV taping if they wanted to do that. Reminds me of the old GCW garage/training center where they did tapings and "Adults F'n Only" shows.

Talked to J. Caster for a bit; hadn't seen him in a while. I had a chance to watch some of his MRW matches on the Indie Wrestling Archive YouTube channel. Also fairly sure I spotted a certain "Unbreakable" wrestler in attendance for a short portion of the show.

Your alternating ring announcers/hype guys were Ben Simon, Luke Roberts, and Chris Roedel; your referees were Jay King and Michael Crase.

The theme of the night was the six-way main event; the winners of the undercard matches advanced to the finale with the winner getting a Heavyweight Title shot at the March 1st show in Fenton. I think the original match hype suggested that the winner would get a match of his choice, but it was specifically stated at the show that the winner would get a title shot.

Andino Giovanni vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher: As previously noted, Giovanni hasn't been in too many singles matches yet. This was a solid outing with Giovanni teasing the upset only for Gallagher to CHEAT TO WIN~! Side note: Gallagher's Champagne Supernova finisher is named after an Oasis song written by guitarist...Noelle Gallagher. IIIII see what you did there. (Match time 6:52)

Heavyweight Champion Jake Dirden came out to complain about how Executive Director Mark Bland is just "handing out title shots"...this brought out Kevin X to retort, setting up their championship match later in the night.

The Bumrush Brothers(Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) vs. Alexandre Rudolph & Gentleman Jake Parnell: Rudolph and Parnell dubbed themselves "Team Stag" in honor of the sponsor for the Off Broadway shows; Rudolph even started the match wearing a Stag cap. I politely declined to wear the foam antlers. It was a battle of fan favorites though "Team Stag" isolated Shorty for a good portion of it. I thought Rudolph was legal at the end of the match but I could have missed a tag at some point...oh well. (Match time 11:28)

Mark Bland came out to hype the remainder of the card...standard-issue stuff.

"Walking Reality" Dan Walsh vs. Brandon "Espy" Espinosa: Me(to Espinosa): "Your nickname is redundant!" This was a first-ever matchup between these two; they've both wrestled in this area for quite a while but never crossed paths until now. Gallagher wasn't keen on the prospect of facing Walsh in the six-way match, so he interfered to ensure Walsh's defeat. Second match of the night with a rollup-with-tights finish, I must note. Gosh darn it, they'll have to wrestle each other again to settle this...gosh darn it. (Match time: 8:42)

WLW Tag Team Champions The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook) vs. High Level Enterprise(Jack Gamble & Jon Webb) for the Dynamo Tag Team Titles: These teams have been feuding over the WLW Tag Team Titles but this was the first meeting at a Dynamo show. Killer transition spot saw Magnuson block a rana off the apron by Gamble, turning it into a modified spike powerbomb onto the ring apron with DeLorean's assist. Webb got the hot tag and chaos broke loose...Gamble superkicked Magnuson to break up a Vertebreaker(!) on Webb but his partner's landing was still a bit rough...ouch. Some beltplay led to the finish as DeLorean tried to bring in the belt and Webb rolled him up, but the referee wouldn't count the pin when he saw the belt in Webb's hands. As the official was getting one belt out of the ring, Magnuson got another of the title belts and KOed Webb to give DeLorean the win. (Match time: 14:56)

"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. Kevin X for the Heavyweight Title: This shaped up to be Dirden's tougest test to date against a veteran who has held the GCW and MMWA Heavyweight Titles. Despite that, Dirden had the height advantage on his challenger and the power battle was about even. Kevin was still able to hit some big moves like the running powerslam and the spinebuster...he came VERY close to a win after the spinebuster but Dirden got a foot on the bottom rope. Dirden blocked the Pavement Drop(Flatliner) and, after much struggle, finally caught Kevin X in the Asiatic Spike. Kevin held on for longer than any previous opponent(surviving TWO arm checks from the referee), but he couldn't completely escape the hold in the end...chalk it up as a major win for Dirden! (Match time: 15:02)

Gallagher vs. Shorty vs. Outtkast vs. Espinosa vs. Magnuson(w/ Cook) vs. DeLorean(w/ Cook): Travis got into an argument with Bland(who was at ringside for most of the show). The good guys stood back-to-back in the ring surrounded by the four bad guys at the start of the bout...but they all stepped out to the ring apron, leaving Shorty and Outtkast to officially begin the match. The other guys kept dropping off the apron, forcing the tag partners to go through a brief exchange...after which they quickly tagged Magnuson and DeLorean into the match. Ha ha.

It turned into an expanded tag bout as Shorty took a beating from the other four participants...somewhere in the middle of it, Walsh hit the ring and chased off Gallagher, costing him his opportunity to win a title shot. It came down to the current and former tag champs; finishers were exchanged and Outtkast got the sunset flip pin on Magnuson, earning some payback for the title loss at the previous show. (Match time: 10:01)

I don't know if we'll get tension between the Bumrush Brothers due to Outtkast challenging for the big belt...but there aren't a lot of other fan favorite teams in Dynamo. With the original stipulation, I wondered if a win for Shorty or Outtkast would set up a rematch for the Tag Titles...but they have the rematch clause for that anyway. Dirden-Outtkast should be a literal "House Of Fun"...don't think I've seen Dirden in a hardcore match environment before.

(Yes, I AM trying to avoid the use of INZIDER TERMZ like "face" and "heel"...oops.)

In-ring was a lot of fun across the board...no problems from this onlooker. Woo.

A new group is starting in May called the Professional Wrestling Championship Series...it's set up with wrestlers grouped into factions and a point system to eventually determine the championship stable. Will be interesting to see how that develops.

That wraps up February for the most part...there are no area shows next weeked to my knowledge. Upcoming:

-Friday 2/28: SLA in Alton, IL
-Saturday 3/1: SLA in Alton, IL; DPW in Fenton, MO
-Saturday 3/8: MMWA in St. Louis, MO
-Saturday 3/22: SICW in East Carondelet, IL

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

Tuesday DPW Results From St. Louis, MO(Off Broadway) + This Week In Wrestling

Brandon Gallagher d. Andino Giovanni via rollup with a handful of tights.

The Bumrush Brothers(Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) d. "Team Stag"(Alexandre Rudolph & Jake Parnell) when Outtkast pinned Parnell after the Case Study.

Brandon Espinosa d. Dan Walsh; Gallagher ran interference after Walsh hit the Paydirt, then distracted Walsh long enough for Espinosa to roll him up for the win while holding the tights.

WLW Tag Team Champions The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook) d. High Level Enterprise(Jack Gamble & Jon Webb) to retain the Dynamo Tag Team Titles; DeLorean pinned Webb after Magnuson knocked out Webb with one of the title belts behind the referee's back.

Jake Dirden d. Kevin X with the Asiatic Spike to retain the Heavyweight Title.  It was Dirden's toughest test to date as champion and Kevin X held out longer in the hold than any previous opponent, but he finally passed out from the pain and the referee called for the bell after three arm drops.

Outtkast won a six-way match with Shorty Biggs, Brandon Espinosa, Brandon Gallagher, Dynamo/WLW Tag Team Champion David DeLorean(w/ Travis Cook), and Dynamo/WLW Tag Team Champion Michael Magnuson(w/ Cook).  Walsh ran into the ring to chase off Gallagher late in the bout.  Magnuson tried to finish off Outtkast, but Kast reversed a fireman's-carry move into a sunset flip for the three-count!  Shorty was disappointed that he didn't win but congratulated his partner, who said he would win the Heavyweight Title on March 1st.  That brought out Dirden for a staredown with his next challenger...

WWE Raw

-Commentators:  Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-Daniel Bryan d. Christian Cage; Christian attacked Bryan's arm and Bryan was unable to hook the Yes Lock as a result, but he got the flash pin with a rolling prawn cradle.  Director Of Operations Kane watched the match from ringside and then told Bryan that he had another match...
-Daniel Bryan d. Kane by DQ when Kane refused to release a crossface chickenwing around the ringpost.
-Johnny Fandango(w/ Summer Rae) d. Santino Marella(w/ Emma Tayla) with the Falcon Arrow.
-Roman Reigns(w/ U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins) d. Mark Henry after the spear.  Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, & Erick Rowan spoke from the TitanTron, leading to another in-ring confrontation between the trios...but the Wyatts backed off once again.
-Jack Swagger(w/ Zeb Colter) d. Kofi Kingston with the Patriot Lock.
-Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston d. Drew McIntyre & Jinder Mahal in a non-title handicap match when he pinned Drew after a tilt-a-whirl Big Ending; Swagger & Zeb hung around ringside with Zeb yelling at Big E on the microphone.
-John Cena d. Antonio Cesaro(w/ Zeb Colter & Jack Swagger) with the F-U.
-Bray Wyatt & The Wyatt Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) d. Sin Cara & Los Matadores(Fernando & Diego)(w/ El Torito) when Wyatt pinned Sin Cara after the Sister Abigail.
-Jey Uso d. Tag Team Champion Billy Gunn via rollup after a missed Fameasser; Jimmy Uso and Road Dog did commentary.  The Usos got the better of a post-match exchange with the champs, setting up the Tag Title match at the PPV.
-Sheamus O'Shaunessy d. WWE Champion Randy Orton(non-title) by DQ when The Shield members attacked Sheamus.  That brought out, in order:  Cena, Bryan, Cesaro, Christian, and finally the Wyatts; the show ended with a big brawl.

SICW Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling show at the Community Center in East Carondelet, Illinois.

Another packed house for SICW; I left the house earlier than usual to beat the rush. I figured I would be standing for most of the night anyway; promoter Herb Simmons had commented on Facebook that the show was a legit sellout as far as seats were concerned.

I forget if the Gary Jackson-Alexandre Rudolph match was mentioned on Missouri Wrestling Revival, the St. Louis Wrestling website, or on Wrestling Explosion...if I put the match in a lineup on the "This Week In Wrestling" posting, it was made official in some fashion. As it turned out, Rudolph was booked elsewhere.

Herb started the show by interviewing Gary Jackson, acknowledging Gary's retirement from the military after 25 years of service. MWR had a good column on his service, deeming February 15th "Gary Jackson Day".

Your ring announcer was Ben Simon, your referees were Jay King and Keith Smith Jr.

Joker vs. Andino Giovanni: I'm pretty sure this was Joker's first win in SICW. This was also one of the first singles matches for Giovanni as I've mostly seen him in battle royals before this. Didn't get all the match times on this night, but this went about four minutes. It was fine for what it was.

Daniel Eads vs. Frankie "The Thumper" Wyatt: This stemmed from a DQ finish to last month's match when Wyatt threw Eads over the top rope. Said finish can easily be handwaved as SICW is one of the few promotions where that draws a disqualification; newcomers may not be aware of that rule. This went about eight minutes and ended out of nowhere with a missed elbowdrop and handful of tights; Eads did get a big power spot with a modified Samoan Drop on the big guy.

Gary Jackson vs. Purple Passion: Hadn't seen Passion in a while; would the universe implode if he and Flaming Freddie Fury were in the same place at the same time? Passion did his usual schtick but Gary won in about six and a half minutes with the Cloverleaf.

Bobby D vs. Ax (Allwardt): I would call Ax's win a bit of an upset as Bobby had been fairly successful in recent months. Ax has used a few different finishers in SICW, but then the piledriver is Ron Powers' main move. This went close to eleven minutes(!).

Heath Hatton vs. Dave Vaughn(w/ Travis Cook): Travis interjected himself on a few occasions, but the referee finally caught him. In an interesting judgement call, the ref ejected him from ringside rather than call for the DQ. Had never seen that sort of double-KO spot before(dueling flying shoulderblocks) and it looked like Vaughn was dazed after that...he had to be assisted back to the dressing room area. Didn't get the match time for this one. This feud...MUST CONTINUE~!

Ironman Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) vs. Big Jim Hoffarth for the Classic Title: The former Big Texan had a good winning streak after losing the mask. He had already been getting some positive fan response before that, so the face turn was a mere formality. Good strategy on Kasa's part to work on the leg...this kept Texan from being able to run the ropes for his big splash finisher. He tried a splash off the second rope, but couldn't ascend the turnbuckles quickly enough and Kasa moved out of the way. I wasn't in a good position to see whether any extra shenanigans were involved in the small package finish, but it got the job done and Kasa retained his title in about ten and a half minutes. Kasa stands as the longest-reigning top champion in the immediate area; Espinosa just regained the MMWA Heavyweight Title while Dirden(Dynamo) and Gerald James(Anarchy) won their belts in October. Kasa won the belt from Ricky Cruz last June.

Ron Powers & "Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. Ricky Cruz & Flash Flanagan: Ricky turned on Powers last month when he was the guest ref for Powers' grudge match with Flanagan. Powers & Dirden have been dubbed "Brody disciples" by Larry Matysik. Ricky REALLY didn't want to tangle with Powers as he rushed to tag out on a few occasions. The referee didn't QUITE miss the chairshot that led to the finish, but we'll just pretend he did. I think this was only the second time Flanagan's been pinned in SICW(the first was by Ricky in a triple threat match) so it meant something for Dirden to get the fall. Didn't get the time on this one either.

It's great to see the local groups drawing as well as they have been...things will be busy for the next little while.

Upcoming shows:

-Tuesday 2/18: Dynamo in St. Louis, MO(Off Broadway)
-Friday 2/28: SLA in Alton, IL
-Saturday 3/1: SLA in Alton, IL, Dynamo in Fenton(Stratford Inn)
-Saturday 3/8: MMWA in St. Louis, MO
-Saturday 3/22: SICW in East Carondelet, IL (Usually expect the SICW show to be the week after the MMWA show, so this was a slight deviation from the norm.)

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

Anarchy Wrestling TV #420

Commentators:  Bret Wolverton & Jonathan Feltner.

"The Sin City Saint" Brandon Parker vs. Ethan Case:  Case's ring attire and bleached hair are..."luminescent", I'll say.  Parker's in an odd spot as he turned face to team with Kevin Blue, but Blue's now focused on singles competition as the Young Lions' Champion.  Case nearly gets the upset with a unique suplex variant, but a blind charge hits turnbuckles...Parker hits a flying double-knee, then finishes with a Ki-Krusher.

Mike Posey admits that promoter Franklin Dove pulled the wool over his eyes at Seasons' Beatings...but he assures us that things are A-O-K between him and Corey Hollis.

Kameron Kade vs. Mike Posey:  Kade's been in and out of Anarchy in the past year(and Wolverton uses that phrasing right after I type it...great minds think alike).  It takes a bit for the fans to warm up to Kade as a result...he gets a near-fall with a jackknife cradle and another after a Rock Bottom.  However, Kade whiffs on a missile dropkick and that's all the opening Posey needs to land the Alabama Jam.  1-2-3.

"Wild" Billy Buck vs. "The Five-Star King" Anthony Henry(w/ Miss Rachael, B.J. Hancock, & Joey Rhymer) for the T.V. Title:  Rachael hypes her protege before the match and gloats about the end of Todd Sexton's career...as is often the case in wrestling, your mileage may vary.  The referee boots Hancock & Rhymer from ringside right away, good for him.  YAY WRESTLING~!  Is Buck technically a two-time or three-time champion since the second reign ended before it really started?  Henry bails out of the ring to avoid the Buck Wild superkick, then Rachel's distraction attempt proves to be less than effective.  A foot grab does a better job of turning the tide, allowing Henry to clip the knee.  Time for some leg work to keep the larger man off his feet AND take away the superkick...PSYCHOLOGY~!  Henry gets a half-crab in the middle of the ring but Buck reverses into a rollup...for two.

Henry goes after the leg again but gets caught in a Samoan Drop off the ropes...I smell a comeback on the way.  Henry limps through the rally, hitting several bionic elbows and a spinebuster...for two.  Henry stuns him with a jawbreaker but Buck blocks the dropkick for a catapult...only for Henry to land on the middle rope.  He jumps backwards into a back suplex attempt, flips over to land on his feet, grabs his own waistlock only for Buck to reverse into a German suplex...for two(whew!).  Buck backdrops Henry over the ropes, but Henry lands on the apron and then blocks a kick to deliver a dragonsrew legwhip through the ropes!  Dropkick to the knee sets up a straitjacket German suplex(!)...for two.

Up to the third floor, but Buck cuts him off only for Henry to headbutt him down to the mat...frog splash HITS...for two!  He immediately gets the Texas Cloverleaf and Buck's a long way from the ropes...Henry pulls him back to md-ring but Buck escapes the move, transitioning into a figure-four leglock!  Now it's Henry reaching for the ropes...and Rachael rakes Buck's eyes as the referee is checking on Henry!  They trade strikes in mid-ring and they kick each other away as they try for their respective submission holds.  Henry goes for a springboard move...and gets superkicked out of mid-air!  Yup, that'll do it and Buck retains the championship!

Buck's still hurting from the match and C.B. Suave(who has a guaranteed title shot of his choice in the proverbial bank) tries to sneak into the ring...but he shifts into reverse when Buck catches him in the act.

The Urban Assault Squad(Shadow Jackson & Nemesis)(w/ The Vandal) vs. Iceberg Slim(Iceberg & Slim J) for the Tag Team Titles:  Iceberg and Slim won a three-way dance at Seasons' Beatings to earn a title shot, but the UAS cheated their way to a win on that night.  This breaks down into a brawl right away and Vandal runs in to un-even the odds...but the good guys clear the ring and Vandal is left to take a beating from two people who don't like him very much.  Anarchy imposed a three-man limit to stables a while back...but Geter + Shadow + Nemesis + Vandal makes four by my math.  (I can only assume Vandal's an "unofficial" associate.)

Oh yeah, opening bell.  Shadow takes a beating from Iceberg and then plays pinball in the opposite corner.  Nemesis doesn't have much better luck and Wolverton swears he heard Nemesis complain about a hair pull...won't see much of that in this bout.  Slim J unleashes the educated feet, then brings in Iceberg for a Banzai Drop off the bottom rope...for two.  Nemesis rakes the eyes and tags out to Shadow as the Unforgivable Blackness subset finally gets some momentum.  Iceberg armdrags(!) Shadow out of the blue...that's one way to turn things around.  However, an avalanche hits turnbuckles and Vandal adds a cheapshot behind the referee's back.  Shadow makes the tag and hits a Stone Cold Stunner, then Nemesis adds a big clothesline...for two.

Mutual clotheslines leave both Iceberg and Nemesis on the mat...tags are made on both sides and Slim J enters with a missile dropkick on Shadow!  The house is on fire...J focuses on Jackson and Flatliners him into the Roach Clip(inverted STF), but Nemesis breaks it up.  Iceberg's not ready to re-enter the fray just yet and Slim gets planted with a double atomic facebuster...Shadow lures Iceberg into the ring by spitting at him, leading to Nemesis surprising the big man with a powerslam!  However, Iceberg gets up right away and drops Nemesis with a belly-to-belly suplex...then Shadow drops Iceberg with the 1031 spinebuster...and J dives off the top rope with the flying inverted DDT!  Slim goes to the top again but Vandal runs interference...Slim fights off Vandal but Nemesis snaps his throat off the top rope.

The UAS members now have Slim J isolated with Vandal getting in his shots from the arena floor.  Slim finally dropkicks Shadow away...and Iceberg gets the tag!  Iceberg beats up both of his adversaries...Vandal runs in with one of the title belts but Iceberg dumps him out of the ring.  Vandal keeps the ref's attention as Nemesis BELTs Iceberg(that's how they won at Seasons' Beatings!)...Nemesis puts Shadow on top but J barely breaks up the pin in time!  Iceberg is busted open and Slim kicks off Shadow, then delivers the Screwdriver On The Rocks(Asai DDT into a Diamond Cutter-ish drop) on Nemesis!  Shadow cuts off Slim on the top rope, but Slim fights him off and launches a huge spinning kick off the turnbuckles!  J dives onto Nemesis and Vandal with a somersault plancha as Iceberg clears his head...GROUND ZERO SPLASH on Shadow and we have newwwww Tag Team Champions!

Cook claimed that SICW was bringing in all the big stars of the past to leech off his stable's drawing power...in response, Luke asked Herb to leave the ring so he could deal with Travis personally. Luke cornered Travis but Dave Vaughn jumped him from behind...the Bushwhacker fought off Vaughn and beat down Cook in the corner before delivering a Stinkface!

-Ironman Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) d. Big Jim Hoffarth to retain the Classic Title.  Kasa worked on the leg for most of the match and took out the knee again when Hoffarth set up for a chokeslam.  That opening led to Kasa edging out the win with a small package.
-Ron Powers & Jake Dirden d. Ricky Cruz & Flash Flanagan; Powers brawled with Cruz outside the ring and hit Flanagan with a chair from the floor, leading to Dirden getting the pin on Flash after a Brody-style kneedrop.

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips, S. William Regal, & Alex Riley.  Ring announcer:  Byron Saxton.

Natalya Neidhart, Emma Tayla, & Bayley Rose vs. Alicia Fox, Summer Rae, & Sasha Banks(w/ Charlotte Flair):  Renee Young joins the broadcast team for this one...did she just do the Larry Zbyszko salute?  The commentators wonder if Alicia Fox is an honorary member of the Beautiful Fierce Females.  Tom passes along the info that Emma finally gets her rematch with Paige Knight for the NXT Women's Title on the live special in two weeks.  Meanwhile...YAY WRESTLING~!  Everyone gets a turn in the ring until the Alicia/Summer/Sasha team isolates Bayley.  The fans want Emma but Bayley keeps getting cut off from her corner...she finally reverses a suplex by Summer and tags in Emma!  Emma goes to town on Alicia and nails Summer and Sasha for full house-afire points.  Alicia wants a tag but Summer and Sasha take a walk...so much for that partnership.  Emma takes Alicia down into the Emma Lock(inverted STF) for the tapout, scoring her second win in a row over the former Women's Champion!

Colin Cassady vs. Aiden English:  Regal is overcome with emotion after Aiden's musical entrance.  Cassady overpowers English in the early going...but Aiden snaps his throat off the top rope and follows up with a swinging neckbreaker.  English focuses on the neck but misses a legdrop, allowing Big Cass to make the comeback.  S-A-W-F-T~!  IT'S THE BIG FOOT is ducked but Cass catches the cross-bodyblock attempt...only for Aiden to escape the slam attempt and kick out the knee from behind.  One Director's Cut(cobra clutch Side Effect) later, English gets the win.

Sami Zayn makes his entrance...he's still limping a bit but he doesn't need crutches any more.  OLE~!  He's watched his best-of-three-falls match with Antonio Cesaro over and over, but he's still figuring out where he went wrong in that loss.  That brings out Cesaro himself...Cesaro thinks he's sounding pathetic and there was no way he could have won that bout.  Cesaro feels Zayn will have a great career..."down here".  Cesaro thinks he should get over it...he was "close, but no cigar".  Zayn respects him, especially the fact that he's on the main roster but still chooses to wrestle on NXT for the sake of competition.  He'll fight anyone but he won't accept Zayn's rematch challenge...why is that?  Cesaro says he has nothing more to prove...the fans chant for One More Time.  Zayn says Cesaro could prove it to himself one more time...or maybe he's scared that Zayn will beat him next time?  Cesaro asks him if his knee is medically cleared...Zayn says he'll be fine, but Cesaro wants no excuses if he beats Zayn again.  Zayn extends his hand, then offers a pinky-swear instead...heh.  YES~!  However, Cesaro says his answer is still no and then kicks out the bad knee...ha ha.  Chief Operating Officer Triple H decides he wants the final say in this...the fans even chant "Best For Business".  HHH isn't cleared NOW but it will be for the live special in two weeks...that's when the rematch WILL happen!

Tye Dillinger vs. C.J. Parker:  Dillinger is the artist formerly known as Shawn/Gavin Spears...haven't seen him around these parts in a few years.  The fans don't know Dillinger too well, but they root for him because they reeeeeally hate Parker.  Regal says he's still feeling the effects of his own match with Cesaro and worries about Zayn's safety.  Tye outwrestles him for a bit but C.J. snapmares him before landing a senton.  Airplane spin sets up the Third Eye(uppercut palm strike)...that'll do it.  Time for some enlightenment...why don't people love him?  He reduces, reuses, and recycles!  He drives a fuel-efficient Ford Fiesta!  The "sheeple" boo him but the fans are the ones melting the polar ice caps, burning a hole in the ozone later, cutting trees, and spilling oil.  They're incapable of loving...and now C.J. Parker has no love for them.

Jason Jordan & Marcus Louis vs. The Wyatt Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan)(w/ Bray Wyatt):  Interesting choice for the feature bout...looks like squash is in season.  Huge pop for the Wyatts' entrance.  Louis gets mauled right out of the gate, then Harper wipes out Jordan before mowing down Louis with the discus lariat...good night.  Bray enters the ring to add his finishing touch, dropping Jordan with the Sister Abigail.  Time for some words of wisdom...they've already laid waste to this domain, but they don't forget where they came from.  Follow The Buzzards(tm)...and jump-cut out.

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Taz.
-Ladder Match With Both Feast-Or-Fired Briefcases On The Line:  Phil Gunner vs. Ethan Carter III ended in a no-contest when Heavyweight Champion Brutus Magnus interfered.  James Storm mad the save and Montel Vontavious Porter ordered the match to continue as a tag team bout.
-Ladder Match With Both Feast-Or-Fired Briefcases On The Line:  James Storm & Phil Gunner d. Heavyweight Champion Brutus Magnus & Ethan Carter III when Gunner retrieved the briefcases from above the ring.
-Samoa Joe & The American Wolves(Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) d. Tag Team Champions The Bro Mans(Robbie Eckos & Jessie Godderz) & Shiima Xion when Joe made Xion tap out to the Kokita Clutch.
-Montel Vontavious Porter d. Rockstar Spud after the Ballin' Elbow and the Drive-By Kick.
-Velvet Sky vs. Chris Sabin never really happened; Velvet hit Sabin with a low blow, but Sabin revealed he was wearing a cup...so Velvet gave him another low blow.  She beat him down, but Alpha Female entered the ring and manhandled Velvet, leaving her laying after a full nelson.
-Ken Anderson d. Bully Ray in a casket match after giving Ray the Mic Check into the casket and closing the lid.
-Next week:  Magnus-Gunner for the title.

Comedy Part 511: Carpool To Oblivion

Location: Valley Park Funny Bone
Emcee: Frankie Chubb
After: Zach Martina
Before: Ryan Ries

Got some of the East Side band back together as I carpooled with Landon Meyer and Kevin Bunetic...also saw Joe "The Animal" Lancey and Wayne Wiskow at the show. I'd been to an open-mic or two at this club before...and I don't recall the audience ever being THAT rough. I've seen smaller crowds that were a lot of fun and I've seen bigger crowds that didn't make much noise, but this was the perfect storm of low numbers and low response. No one was getting much of anything on this night...I went up around the middle of a loaded show. I plowed through my planned material...the only significant laugh I got was for my wisecrack about the drink special being Nyquil...heh. I don't like leaving in the middle of a show, but I made an exception in this case...it was that kind of night.
