Midweek wrestling

TNA XPlosion

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Jeremy Borash.
-Ken Anderson & Phil Gunner d. The Bro Mans(Robbie Eckos & Jessie Godderz)(w/ D.J. Shiima Xion) when Gunner pinned Godderz after Anderson's Mic Check followed by Gunner's swandive headbutt (5:34 aired).

WWE NXT

-Commentators:  Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, & Renee Young.
-Tyler Breeze d. Angelo Dawkins with the Beauty Shot(spinning heel kick) (1:09).  Breeze asked for his music video to be shown again, but instead NXT Champion Adrian Neville came out to confront him.  Neville asked when Breeze would be challenging for his title...the war of words turned into a brief fight and Neville got the better of the exchange before Breeze rolled out of the ring.
-Backstage:  Jojo Offerman interviewed Natalya Neidhart.  She thinks Adam Rose is entertaining, but Tyson Kidd(Rose's opponent tonight) took exception to that...
-Tyler Breeze has left the building.
-NXT Women's Champion Charlotte Flair d. Becky Lynch after the Bow Down To The Queen(low-altitude somersault Cutter) (non-title) (4:04).-Backstage:  Jojo interviewed Mojo Rawley about this just-announced Tag Team Title contenders' tournament...he needs a partner and, as it turns out, so does Bull Dempsey.
-NXT Tag Team Champions The Ascension(Konnor O'Brian & Rick Viktor) d. Steve Cutler & Mac Miles when Viktor pinned Cutler after the Fall Of Man(legsweep/flying European uppercut combo) (non-title) (2:21).  Viktor and Konnor noted that they're the longest-reigning Tag Team Champions in NXT history and they're waiting for the winners of the upcoming contenders' tournament...
-Mojo Rawley & Bull Dempsey d. The Mechanics(Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder) when Bull pinned Wilder after the Bulldozer(Northern Lights Bomb) (2:40).  Dawson was returning to the ring after a long injury layoff; Wilder was formerly known as Steven "The Fever" Walters in Anarchy Wrestling.
-Backstage:  Rich Brennan interviewed Bayley Rose; she wasn't shedding any tears over the breakup of the Beautiful Fierce Females.  She mentioned that she pinned Charlotte in a six-woman tag match not too long ago...that got Charlotte's attention and she had some choice words for her would-be contender.
-Adam Rose(w/ Rosebuds) d. Tyson Kidd(w/ Natalya Neidhart) via small package (9:14 aired).
-Next week:  Xavier Woods vs. C.J. Parker, plus the start of the Tag Team Title contenders' tournament.

Comedy Part 516: Hey Guys, We're Two-For-Two

Location: Hey Guys Comedy
Emcee: Landon Meyer
After: Joshua Slobe
Before: Arlo Christie

Another good turnout for Wednesday's open-mic at the new Fairview Heights comedy club. Glad to finally be getting some new material out there. I went up fairly early(after Landon and Josh) and kept time for the show again. Some of the best jokes are based on true stories and my newest bit would fall into that category...bwahahaha. Planning to go to one of the Friday shows with Mark Poolos headlining; should be a good one. Got a vacation week in the near future, so hopefully I'll get to a few more open-mics in that time...woo.

-Heath Slater & Titus O'Neil d. Tyson Kidd & Zack Ryder when Slater pinned Kidd after a top-rope powerslam (4:55).

Dynamo Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Tuesday's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at Off Broadway in St. Louis, Missouri.

The audience is slowly growing at Dynamo's new venues...Tuesday night is a tough slot for a wrestling show but the fan enthusiasm comes off well in the intimate venue. It's the polar opposite of the Sports Academy in Glen Carbon where the crowd noise doesn't come off as well in such a huge building.

Your ring announcer was Chris Roedel(with Luke Roberts handling extra announcements); your referees were Jay King and Patrick Hook. Your sponsors were Stag Beer and Strange Donuts(providing free gooey butter cake and Butterfinger-flavored donuts for the night).

Mike Outlaw vs. Danny Adams: Both men are newcomers to the wrestling scene; Adams is a trainee of ROH Heavyweight Champion Michael Elgin and Outlaw is a recent graduate of the Dynamo training school. I'm pretty sure I've seen almost all of their matches at this point...they got about ten minutes and had a solid opener. Outlaw gave out a bandanna to a ringside fan...yay for fan interaction. Once Outlaw was established as the crowd favorite of the two, Adams worked a more heelish style in response. Outlaw got the win(his first?) after a Macho Elbow in 9:07.

Brandon Aarons vs. Paco Gonzalez vs. Rocket Mapache vs. "The Bosnian Warchild" Spi-Ral vs. Jackal vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher: This was an elimination-style six-way dance, though only two wrestlers were legally in the ring at one time. As the lone outright heel, Gallagher ate an early superkick from Spi-Ral and then decided to bide his time on the arena floor. I noticed very few actual tags(if any), but it made sense in the bigger picture: Let the other guys wear each other out and then pick up the pieces. Gallagher's had previous encounters with Aarons, Mapache, and Jackal, so it was in his best interests to stay out of the line of fire...he tripped Jackal to set up Paco's Oklahoma roll for the first elimination. After that, Gallagher quickly rolled up Gonzalez with a handful of tights for fall number two. They didn't announce elimination times, but those took place in the first five minutes...things settled down after that as Gallagher locked up with Mapache. Yes, there WAS a "Rabies" chant.

Mapache and Gallagher tangled for a few minutes; that ended when Gallagher blocked a sunset flip for his second elimination of the match. That brought in Aarons as Gallagher was feeling confident, but it didn't last as Aarons eliminated him with a half-nelson pumphandle suplex. Notably, that meant a face/face finale between Aarons and Spi-Ral...Spi-Ral has a unique arsenal with mat wrestling ability, aerial moves, and some martial-arts kicks. He got some good airtime on the top-rope splash that earned him his first Dynamo victory in 14:47.

"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. Brandon Espinosa: Despite both being mainstays in the area wrestling scene for the past few years, this was their first one-on-one encounter. Espy had trouble dealing with Dirden's size advantage in the early going, but a timely distraction by the arriving Lucy Mendez allowed Espinosa to clip the knee. Espy focused his attack on the leg to keep the bigger man down...Dirden made the comeback but that brought out Heavyweight Champion Ricky Cruz to personally get involved. Lucy distracted the ref as Cruz got up on the ring apron with the title belt...but he accidentally hit Espinosa with the gold when Dirden avoided the shot. Dirden knocked Cruz off the apron and got the victory with the Asiatic Spike in 10:27...looks like the Cruz-Dirden issue is far from over.

The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook) vs. The Bumrush Brothers("The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) for the Tag Team Titles: These teams have traded the belts a few times in this calendar year...the Warriors' Dynamo appearances have been scarce in this title reign as they're also WLW Tag Champs. Travis made an extended pre-match speech, noting the absence of Executive Director Mark Bland and suggesting that he and his crew could get away with whatever they wanted to do. I suspected another title change could happen...while there were several close falls in the finishing stretch, it didn't quite work out that way. Shorty got his hands on Travis and picked him up on his shoulders, but the referee's attention was on Outtkast and DeLorean brawling on the floor. That allowed Magnuson to stun Shorty with a low blow and roll him up for the pin. This feud...MUST CONTINUE~!

"The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz(w/ Lucy Mendez) vs. "Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson for the Heavyweight Title: Gary wrestled a handful of times for GCW and MRW before that, but he hadn't competed for Dynamo until an Off Broadway show a few months ago when he defeated Brandon Gallagher. Ricky and Gary had faced each other a couple of times in SICW when Ricky was the Classic Champion, but both were fan favorites at the time and Cruz is decidedly NOT a good guy any more. Lucy got involved a few times, of course. Jackson had Cruz set up for the Texas Cloverleaf but Lucy distracted the ref...in the ensuing chaos, Ricky mulekicked Jackson in the Universal Weak Point(tm) and got the pin with feet on the ropes. (Two low-blow finishes in a row, I note.) Didn't get a match time for this one. After Gary recovered, he challenged Ricky to face him again in a street fight-style matchup...hmm.

So, that ends my run of three shows in five days...and August is looking like a busy month:

-Saturday 8/2: Dynamo in Fenton, MO
-Sunday 8/3: High Risk Wrestling in Belleville, IL
-Friday 8/8: Dynamo in Eureka, MO
-Saturday 8/9: PWCS in Granite City, IL; MMWA in St. Louis, MO
-Saturday 8/16: SICW in East Carondelet, IL
-Saturday 8/23: DPW in Glen Carbon, IL

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

Tuesday DPW Results From St. Louis, MO(Off Broadway) + This Week In Wrestling

-Mike Outlaw d. Danny Adams after a top-rope elbowdrop (9:07).
-"The Bosnian Warchild" Spi-Ral won a six-way dance with Brandon Aarons, "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher, Rocket Mapache, Paco Gonzalez, and Jackal.  Gonzalez pinned Jackal with an Oklahoma roll after Gallagher tripped Jackal from outside the ring.  Gallagher rolled up Gonzalez with a handful of tights for the second elimination.  Gallagher went on to pin Mapache by blocking a sunset flip and hooking the legs, but Aarons eliminated Gallagher after a pumphandle half-nelson suplex.  It came down to Spi-Ral and Aarons...after a competitive battle, Spi-Ral got the win after a splash off the top rope (14:47).
-"Dirdey" Jake Dirden d. Brandon Espinosa; Lucy Mendez and Heavyweight Champion Ricky Cruz both got involved in the matchup, but it finally backfired when Cruz accidentally hit Espinosa with the title belt.  Dirden capitalized with the Asiatic Spike for the tapout victory (10:27).
-The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook) d. The Bumrush Brothers(Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) to retain the Tag Team Titles; Shorty got his hands on Travis, but Magnuson hit Shorty with a low blow as the referee's attention was on Outtkast and DeLorean's brawl on the floor.  That allowed Magnuson to roll up Shorty for the win (15:55).
-"The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz(w/ Lucy Mendez) d. "Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson to retain the Heavyweight Title.  Lucy distracted Gary when he had Cruz set up for the Texas Cloverleaf; as the referee tried to restore order, Cruz mulekicked Gary in the groin and then got the pin with feet on the ropes.  Afterwards, Gary issued a challenge to Ricky to face him again in a street fight!

SICW Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling show at the Community Center in East Carondelet, Illinois.

It was another packed house at SICW with a well-built title match. Ken Kasa had passed the one-year mark of his championship reign and manager Travis Cook had a bottle of champagne all ready to celebrate the milestone. For his part, Heath Hatton was riding a wave of momentum that included an endorsement from Jim Cornette, a battle royal win, and a tapout victory over the champ in last month's tag team main event.

Your ring announcer was Drew Abbenhaus, your referees were Jay King and Keith Smith Jr.

The start of the show featured an oddly-extended segment...it began with a replaying of Larry Matysik's over-the-phone acceptance speech for the Natioanl Wrestling Hall Of Fame in Iowa this past week. The audio wasn't the best and they finally faded it out. After that, promoter Herb Simmons talked up the new sponsors for SICW Wrestling Explosion as well as the upcoming events(Paul Orndoroff will be the special guest for the August show).

Joker vs. "Dead Sexy" Daniel Gunner: This was Gunner's SICW debut; according to his Twitter bio, he had previously wrestled in the southeastern part of the country. Thought the match was solid for what it was; Joker won after a superkick in 3:49.

Outtkast vs. J.J. Garrett: Another SICW debut; I had previously seen Garrett at PWCS and he mostly competes in Iowa. This was Outtkast's second appearance for SICW as he debuted last month in a loss to Ax Allwardt. Kast has shown a bit more of his technical skill at these shows; his matches elsewhere are usually brawls and hardcore-style bouts. Outtkast picked up the victory after the Case Study(modified fireman's-carry into a bulldog-ish drop) in 4:00.

Big Jim Hoffarth vs. Frankie "The Thumper" Wyatt & Waco: Waco had apparently been griping about Hoffarth being a lousy tag partner, so Hoffarth told him to find a new partner and he'd face both of them...thus this Very Special Handicap Match(tm). I'm not too fond of handicap matches in general, mostly since heel authority figures tend to overuse them in other promotions. If nothing else, it's refreshing to see the loaded side actually winning as opposed to the outnumbered side taking advantage of a contrived set of circumstances to OVRECOM TEH ODDZ. A cheapshot by Waco set up a big clothesline by Wyatt, then Waco tagged in to hit a Macho Elbow for the win in 5:58. This feud...MUST CONTINUE~!

"Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson & "Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. Flash Flanagan & Ax (Allwardt): Dirden and Flanagan had a few clashes in the recent past, but that was about all of the backstory here. This seemed fairly short for some reason...Flanagan took out Dirden with his kendo stick behind the ref's back, but Gary rolled up Flanagan for the pin. in 7:33 Don't see Flash lose too often, so maybe that'll be the next feud...

Before the first intermission, Herb interviews visiting legend Ox Baker. The guy's as oldschool as it gets and has a unique look with the giant mustache. He was infamous for his trademark heart punch(or "Hurt Punch") and the move was even blamed for killing two opponents! He said that people truly believed in the wrestling in his day, so when he told fans to "SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP"...they did. I noticed the fans quiet down when he raised his voice to say that quote...bwahahaha.

Bobby D vs. "The Money" Matt Cage: Hadn't seen Bobby D in a little while. Cage has made two prior appearances for SICW: A loss to Heath Hatton and a time-limit draw with Shorty Biggs. He competes pretty regularly for central Illinois promotions but appears in this area every once in a while. Cage got the win out of nowhere after a jumping leg lariat in 5:17.

Red River Jack(w/ Big Daddy) vs. Mallaki Matthews: Yes, I had a theory as to the identity of Red River Jack...from my observation on Saturday, my guess was incorrect. I don't know if the masked man is an experienced competitor or someone totally new, but he's definitely a big boy. For reference: "Red River Jack" was an alias previously used by King Kong/Bruiser Brody when he competed under a mask. Jack made short work of Matthews, finishing with his version of the Diamond Cutter/RKO in 2:38.

"The Man Of Tomorrow" Daniel Eads vs. "The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz: Ricky kindly informed Drew of his accolades so that he could repeat them in his ring introduction. These two were the other half of last month's tag match; Eads played a crucial role in holding off Cruz so that Hatton could get the win over Kasa. This was a proving ground of sorts with the upstart Eads taking on the experienced former champion...Eads had a fine showing and it took not one but two superkicks to keep him down for the count at 12:29. There will be another day for The Man Of Tomorrow, to be sure...but Ricky's gunning for another title shot.

"Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) vs. Heath Hatton for the Classic Title: I already covered the history here...Hatton had a close call against Kasa in Caseyville earlier this year, but Travis BELTed him and cost him the match via countout. Travis got more and more involved as the situation grew desperate...Heath speared Kasa and went for the cover, but Cook put Kasa's foot on the bottom rope. That brought out Big Daddy with Red River Jack in tow...but Kasa got the opening to hook the Iron Maiden Torture Lock. Kasa had won the title with that hold and no one had escaped it, but Heath kept fighting and attempting to roll out of the hold. He was finally able to counterwrestle his way into the Crippler Crossface and Red River Jack held off Travis when he tried to interfere with a steel chair. With no more shortcuts to take, Kasa finally tapped out at 19:12 and his thirteen-month reign as champion came to an end! Hatton celebrated his title win with several young fans to close the show...good for him. WOO~!

Onward to Dynamo at Off Broadway tonight...hope to see you there.

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

SLA Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Friday's St. Louis Anarchy "Circus Maximus" show at the Knights Of Columbus Hall in Alton, Illinois.

SLA has been drawing really good crowds lately and they seem to get better with each event...cool for them. The in-ring quality has always been there, though I suppose your mileage may vary depending on your attitude toward the Ring Of Honor bang-bang huge-moves-for-two-counts style. I'm somewhere in the middle...I don't mind it to a point, I guess.

I didn't know the name of the ring announcer or the two referees who weren't Brandon Tolle. One of the refs got some grief from the fans for officiating in jeans...heh. The other official got grief for being a bit slow on the mark with the pin counts, to the point where even the wrestlers seemed a bit impatient with him.

Danny Adams, Shane Sabre, & Channing Decker vs. Ashley Sixx, John Greed, & Michael Schofield: First of all, I appreciate the ring announcer's help with the names of everyone but Danny Adams(who I'd seen at Ring Of Honor and Dynamo). Google helped me match the names to the remaining wrestlers(Sabre helpfully had "Sabre" on his ring attire). The SLA ring is a bit small for multi-participant matches like this, I have noticed. My personal philosophy: The more people in a match, the harder it is to get a read on individual competitors. That especially holds true when I'm unfamiliar with the people involved...I THINK I'd seen Sixx's name somewhere before, but I don't think I'd seen any of his matches. From what I understand, these six participated in Michael Elgin's recent training camp. Sabre took abuse from Sixx's trio, then Adams got the hot tag and cleaned house...he finished with a Codebreaker on Schofield(I think).

A.C.H. vs. Johnny Gargano: Admittedly, this amounted to "hey, two cool wrestlers, let's you and him fight". Gargano is best known for his Dragon Gate USA exploits and had a long reign as Open The Freedom Gate Champion until recently dropping the title to Ricochet. A.C.H. has been gaining notoriety on the national indy scene, including an increased role in ROH as well as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla on the west coast. Gargano appeared for SLA a few months ago as a substitute tag partner for Young Buck Nick Jackson against Davey Vega and Mat Fitchett...since he got the winning pinfall, SLA announced that he would get a title shot down the line. After Gargano got the hard-fought win by blocking a La Majistral cradle, he said he was challenging the winner of the night's championship match...sounds like that'll happen at the next show, which I think is scheduled for October).

Thomas Shire vs. Evan Gelistico: Gelistico's been on a losing streak in recent months in St. Louis Anarchy. The SLA fans seemed to think that Shire bears a resemblance to Jack Swagger...I don't see it, other than the singlet. Shire played along, even doing the "We The People" catchphrase. Shire's repertoire resembled Antonio Cesaro's more than Swagger's...he's one of the few guys who still travels up to these shows from ACW in Texas. Gelistico's woes continued as Shire won after a spinning torture rack and drop...I was afraid Evan would go flying out of the ring on that move.

Arik Cannon vs. Zakk Sawyers: Another solid matchup here...Sawyers has looked good in his SLA outings this year. I had mostly seen him on Pro Wrestling Collision's online shows prior to his SLA debut. Cannon didn't have his usual Pabst Blue Ribbon cooler on this night. At any rate, Cannon got the win with a hanging neckbreaker.

Davey Vega vs. Christian Rose(w/ Greg Jovi): The BOSS stable is all over the place...Jovi was out with Rose and Jeremy Wyatt but not with Dan Walsh and Jordan Lacey. Of course, he probably just wanted to stay out of the line of fire...on top of that, Dorian Victor was out with Gerald James instead of Jovi. Despite his best intentions, Jovi had a rough night as he accidentally got booted off the apron by Rose near the end of this matchup. As good as the match was, I didn't see Rose defeating a guy with wins over Roderick Strong and Chris Hero in this calendar year. Like Gargano, Vega wants a title shot...and he specifically requested it for Yuletide Terror. Vega once defeated Gerald James(then Gary The Night Owl) for the LWA Title at a Yuletide Terror, so history may repeat iself...

The Hooligans(Devin & Mason Cutter) vs. The Young Bucks(Matt & Nick Jackson): SLA had this booked for March 1st, but Matt Jackson was out of action with a broken hand so A.C.H. substitued as Nick's partner. Incredibly, the Bucks managed to save the SUPERKICK PARTY~! until late in the bout. The Hooligans won clean with their finisher...with all the post-match handshakes on this night, it seemed out of place in this case.

Jojo Bravo vs. "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin: These two had a competitive matchup earlier this year with Elgin winning. It looked like they would do the post-match sportsmanship thing, but then Elgin clotheslined him...ha ha. Jojo was the sympathetic favorite here, complete with a "Jojo's Gonna Kill You" chant. It was a similar story in this case with Jojo fighting a much larger opponent and trying to pull out a miracle. He came close again, but the new ROH Heavyweight Champion was a bit too much for him. The turnbuckle powerbomb/spiral bomb combo ended Jojo's night...Elgin talked about how NOW Jojo had earned his respect, shook his hand, and raised his arm. However, this led to ANOTHER cheapshot attack as Elgin dropped him with a post-match powerbomb. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...you don't get fooled again.

Kyle O'Reilly vs. "The Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt(w/ Greg Jovi): This was one of only two card changes for the night; O'Reilly was scheduled to face "Dynamite" Danny Cannon who's on the shelf with an injury. These two had battled at least once before in Metro Pro Wrestling. Another fine matchup here...Jovi took a shot or two from O'Reilly, continuing his terrible horrible no-good very-bad evening. O'Reilly's been adding a legbar to his cross-armbreaker finisher...nice unique twist and that got him the win.

Darin Corbin vs. Brandon Espinosa(w/ Angelus Layne): Layne is recovering from two broken hands...a suicide dive at a recent show ended badly as no one caught her and she hit the floor hard. OW, needless to say. The story to this matchup was that Corbin believes Espinosa and Layne are LIVING IN SIN~!, so he wants them to get married. On the other side, Layne seems interested in such a relationship upgrade but Espy wants no part of it(he turns the androgynous act up to 11 at Anarchy shows). The actual stipulation was that if Corbin won, he would earn the right to marry the two at the next show...yup. I don't know if the fans were divided on this one or if they just couldn't make up their minds...I heard some very vocal chants both for and against Corbin. Angelus actively tried to sabotage her own guy so she could get married...bwahahaha. Espinosa seemed to have the match won after the frog splash(as well as he could hit the move with the low ceiling) and Layne distracted the ref, leading to the rollup pin for Corbin. Espinosa was stunned...then turned around to see Layne on one knee, ready to propose to him. Espy said "NO!" only to get dropped by a Diamond Cutter(Ginger Snap?) by Corbin...then Layne told us that Espinosa said "yes" and I guess we'll have to take her word on that.

"The American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph & Alex Castle vs. "Walking Reality" Dan Walsh & "Gorgeous" Jordan Lacey, double dog collar match: This was our second lineup change for the night...Adam Raw had a family emergency and couldn't make it to the show. This was as crazy and bloody as expected...everyone was busted open but the vampire Castle. It was tough to see everything as two guys were fighting on one side of the building and the other two were fighting on the other side. Rudolph(I think) actually used wooden BBQ skewers to puncture Lacey's forehead...owie. It took a concentrated double-team chain-choking effort to put Rudolph out and end the match...Rudolph got a great ovation afterwards.

Gerald James(w/ Dorian Victor) vs. Mat Fitchett, best-of-three-falls Tables-Ladders-And-Chairs Match for the Heavyweight Title: Since it was best-of-three-falls, it wasn't so much a TLC Match as it was a hardcore match with use of those particular weapons strongly encouraged. It was odd to put the two wild brawls back-to-back, but there you go. Multiple tables were destroyed before the first fall took place...it seemed odd at the time, but made more sense once the final result took place.  Since the best-of-three-falls stipulation became a regular thing for SLA Title matches, I'm pretty sure this was the first time a championship match went two straight falls...wow.  It sounds like Fitchett is truly taking a break from wrestling, if not leaving entirely...never say never in wrestling, I have learned.  Still, quite a way to go out.

Anywho, it was a full weekend...SICW coming up in the next comment.

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

Superstars + Smackdown

WWE Superstars

-Tag Team Champions Jimmy & Jey Uso d. Ryback & Curtis Axel(non-title); Jimmy switched places with his brother outside the ring and small-packaged Axel for the pin.
-Intercontinental Champion Mike Mizanin hosted MizTV to give his acceptance speech...he talked to his parents(though his mother's favorite wrestler is apparently Roman Reigns), but was interrupted by Bo Dallas and then Dolph Ziggler.  Words turned to fists and we had an impromptu matchup...
-Bo Dallas d. Dolph Ziggler; Miz did commentary and Ziggler teased a superkick on Miz...that brought Miz out of his seat to distract Dolph and Bo got an O'Connor Roll with a handful of tights for the cheap win.  Ziggler superkicked Bo during his victory lap and Miz followed that up by running Ziggler into the ringpost.
-Dean Ambrose d. Antonio Cesaro in a no-DQ match; Seth Rollins got in a cheapshot and Cesaro delivered a superplex onto a pile of chairs in the ring, but Ambrose surprised Cesaro with a small package for the flash pin.  Rollins and Cesaro beat down Ambrose after the match, ending with the Neutralizer and then the advanced curbstomp.

-Kyle O'Reilly d. Jeremy Wyatt(w/ Greg Jovi) with a combination cross-armbreaker/legbar.
-Darin Corbin d. Brandon Espinosa(w/ Angelus Layne); the odd stipulation was that Corbin earned the right to marry Espinosa and Layne at the next SLA event.  As a result, Layne seemingly wanted Corbin to win and even interfered against Espinosa a few times...Espinosa nearly won with the frog splash but Layne distracted the referee.  Corbin was able to recover and roll up Espinosa for the pin.
-Dan Walsh & Jordan Lacey d. Alexandre Rudolph & Alex Castle in a bloody double dog collar match.  The brawl went all over the building at times with the collar chains and chairs used as weapons.  Walsh and Lacey finally isolated Rudolph and double-teamed up, choking him out with the chain until the referee called for the bell.
-Gerald James(w/ Dorian Victor) d. Mat Fitchett in a best-of-three-falls tables-ladders-and-chairs match to retain the Heavyweight Title.  Gerald was busted open fairly quickly and the two brawled out of the ring, leading to Gerald hiptossing Fitchett off the steps and right into Victor!  Three tables were destroyed...Fitchett jumped off the stairs to double-stomp James through a table, then later suplexed James over the top rope and through a table.  Fitchett hit an elbowdrop off a ladder with Gerald laid out on the table remnants, but Gerald rebounded by hiptossing Fitchett through a table that was propped up in a corner of the ring.  Gerald scored the first fall after taking Fitchett down off the turnbuckles with a headlock driver onto a chair.  Fitchett managed to stay in the fight, but James surprisingly won in two straight falls after delivering a Michinoku Driver onto the edge of a ladder!  After the bout, Fitchett thanked the fans before leaving his boots in the ring...
