Anarchy Wrestling TV #448(Hostile Environment Highlights)

-Comentators:  Brett Wolverton & "The Untouchable" Jeremy Vain.
-"The Real" Slim J won a three-way dance with "The Temptation" Shaun Tempers(C)(w/ Agent/Attorney Jeff G. Bailey) and "The Seven-Figure Deal" Ace Rockwell to win the Young Lions' Title (8:54 aired; finish not aired).  The stipulations:  If Tempers scored a pin/submission on either challenger, the match would end and he would retain his title.  If either challenger defeated Tempers, the match would end with the title changing hands.  If one challenger defeated the other, the defeated challenger would be eliminated and the match would continue with the remaining two wrestlers.  Slim J German-suplexed Rockwell on top of Tempers and the referee counted both Tempers and Rockwell down for three.
-"The Modern Classic" B.J. Hancock(w/ Miss Rachael, Lars Manderson, & Joey Rhymer) d. "Wild Billy Buck by forfeit to win the Heavyweight Title.  Representative Bill Behrens announced that Buck had reinjured his broken rib while wrestling for another promotion, so the promotion was not allowing him to wrestle and defend his title.  However, Behrens ordered Hancock to defend his newly-won title...
-"The Modern Classic" B.J. Hancock(w/ Miss Rachael) d. "Country Jacked" Corey Hollis via piledriver to retain the Heavyweight Title (7:59 aired; finish not aired).
-"The No-Pain Train" Iceberg & "The Deadly Sin" Se7en(w/ Agent/Attorney Jeff G. Bailey) d. "The Priest Of Punishment" Mikael Judas & "Wrestling's Most Dangerous Weapon" Geter in an Anarchy Rulz Match; Jagged Edge returned to beat down Geter with a chair and give him a Rock Bottom, then put Iceberg on top for the pin (joined in progress; 15:16 aired).  The Elite members were joined by Tempers to beat down Judas and Geter, but "The Angel Of Death" Azrael returned for the save.

Comedy Part 523: Hey Guys, I Did A Guest Set

Location:  Hey Guys Comedy
Emcee:  Greg McClintock
Feature:  Keith Cissell
Headliner:  Mark Sweeney

As it turned out, I attended all four weekend shows at Hey Guys Comedy in Fairview Heights...I was asked if I could do a guest set at the 8:00 show on Saturday.  I feel like I did a good job...I actually think I went under my time since I didn't see a one-minute cue.  Saturday featured two of the best-behaved bachelorette parties that I'd ever seen at comedy shows...generally those are really good for disrupting the proceedings.  At any rate, good times...going to the Colt Cabana/Marty DeRosa show at the Firebird tonight.  After that, open-mic at Hey Guys on Wednesday...woo.

ROH + SICW

ROH TV

-Commentators:  Kevin Kelly, Steve Corino, Prince Nana, & Nigel McGuinness(replacing Nana for the main event).

-"Unbreakable" Michael Elgin d. Cedric Alexander via knockout to retain the Heavyweight Title; Elgin got Alexander Stretch Muffler hold while stomping on the back of his head and the referee called for the bell.

SICW Wrestling Explosion

-Commentators:  Larry Matysik.
-Highlights:  Heath Hatton d. "The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz to retain the Classic Title. Ricky said that Herb wanted him to fight a clean match in order to get his long-awaited title shot. Each man survived some of the other's best moves, but the referee was accidentally knocked down when Cruz sidestepped a Hatton spear. Cruz connected with his third superkick of the match and covered Heath, but there was no referee to make the pin count. Big Daddy made an appearance at ringside, distracting Cruz and setting him up for a Double-R-J from Red River Jack...Hatton, unaware of the interference, revived and made the cover on Cruz as the referee recovered to make the three-count.
-Mohamad Ali Vaez d. J.J. Garrett with the Akbar Clutch(cobra clutch applied from the camel clutch position). Vaez attacked Garrett before the ring introductions and spoke to the crowd in his native language before the bout officially started. Afterwards, he let everyone know(in English) that he was there to make an impact.

I'm working out a few new-ish bits so I didn't get as many laughs as I could have, but my focus was on the hosting part of the evening. Didn't mean that I didn't make mistakes, but things went smoothly for the most part. Bruce Veach announced few shows of note for 2015: Aaron Brooks will be headlining a weekend in January and Bobcat Goldthwait will be appearing at the club as well...woo.

-Alexander Rusev(w/ Lana Perry) d. Jack Swagger; Rusev repeatedly beat down Swagger until the referee stopped the match, awarding it to Rusev.
-Antonio Cesaro d. Rob Van Dam via Neutralizer to earn a shot at U.S. Champion Sheamus O'Shaunessy(who did commentary for the match).  Cesaro took another close look at the belt after the match, then threw it back in Sheamus' face.
-Women's Champion Paige Knight d. Natalya Neidhart(non-title) after the Paige Turner.  A.J. Lee made a post-match appearance and Nattie took down Paige with a discus lariat, so A.J. took advantage by...hugging Paige and kissing her hand.
-Goldust & Stardust d. Tag Team Champions Jimmy & Jey Uso by countout; Jey tweaked his knee when he hit a running plancha onto Stardust, leading to Stardust being the only one of the two to beat the ten-count.  The titles didn't change hands due to the countout and Goldust accused the Usos of getting counted out on purpose...then he and Stardust attacked the Usos and did more damage to Jey's injured knee.  Ladies and gentlemen, we have a heel turn.
-Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler d. Damien Sandow(non-title) after the Zigzag; Mike Mizanin did commentary.
-Roman Reigns d. Seth Rollins & Kane by DQ in a handicap match when Rollins hit Reigns with the Money In The Bank briefcase.  Rollins & Kane set up Reigns to be advanced-curbstomped onto another pile of cinberblocks, but Reigns fought off both men.

-"Country Jacked" Corey Hollis d. "Do Or Die" Chip Day with a double-underhook brainbuster (9:12 aired; finish didn't air).
-"The Italian-American Bad Boy" Tommy Penirelli won a ten-man Mega Rumble for a T.V. Title shot.  Jeremy Foster(#1) and "The Violence Artist" Trevor Aeon(#2) started the match; The Vandal was #3, "The Encore" Kevin Blue was #4, and "The Undead Luchador" Supernatural was #5.  Penirelli was #6 and Lars Manderson was #7...Manderson quickly eliminated Blue, Vandal, Foster, Aeon, and Supernatural.  Alex Avgerinos was #8 and went after former partner Manderson, but Joey Rhymer(w/ Miss Rachael) was #9 to assist his stablemate.  "The Stray Cat" Brodie Ray Chase was #10.  Manderson & Rhymer eliminated Avgerinos and Chase, but a miscommunication led to Manderson knocking Rhymer over the top and Penirelli threw out Manderson for the win (11:16 aired).  Manderson dropped Penirelli after the match with IT'S THE BIG FOOT followed by a Falcon Arrow...so C.B. Suave came out and demanded that the title match start right away.
-"The Italian-American Bad Boy" Tommy Penirelli d. C.B. Suave via grapevine anklelock to win the T.V. Title (3:08).
-"The Technician" Todd Sexton & "Hit For Hire" Bobby Moore won a three-way dance with The Washington Bullets(Jon & Trey Williams) and The Urban Assault Squad(Shadow Jackson & Nemesis) to retain the Tag Team Titles.  The UAS members were DQed when the referee caught Shadow with one of the title belts that Moore had brought into the ring (elimination didn't air).  The remainder of the match took place under Texas Tornado rules; Sexton knocked out Jon with Moore's loaded elbowpad and Moore threw his partner out of the ring to steal the pin (14:33 aired; finish didn't air).

Dynamo Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at the Sports Academy in Glen Carbon, Illinois.

Writing these commentaries isn't always easy.  I've been accused of going easy on aspects of shows that probably deserved more criticism.  I've known some of the people in the local wrestling scene for a long time and, admittedly, biases do exist.  That being said...I didn't think this was a very good show.

Pre-show notes:  For a little while, the only match announced on the Facebook event page was Ricky Cruz & Brandon Espinosa defending the Tag Team Titles against Shorty Biggs & Outtkast (since the Bumrush Brothers got a non-title win over Cruz & Espinosa in Eureka).  A few days later(presumably due to Espinosa not being available), it was changed to Ricky defending the Heavyweight Title against Shorty (another Eureka rematch, as Shorty defeated Ricky by DQ at that show).  A few more matches were posted, but the Facebook event page took down the Ricky-Shorty match for some reason...that match did still happen, though.  Other announced matches were Dirden-Kasa, Rando-Fantastic, Bite Club-Professionals, and Aarons vs. Paco vs. Gallagher.

The attendance was okay...but the crowd noise was really bad for most of the night.  Some matches got decent fan response, but people were deathly quiet for other portions of the night.  That's been a problem for the Glen Carbon venue for a while; I'm starting to wonder if it'd be best for Dynamo Pro to search for a new Illinois venue.

The Bite Club(Rocket Mapache & Jackal) vs. The Professionals(Shawn Santel & Mauler McDarby)(w/ Travis Cook):  "I'm A Travis Cook Guy" T-shirts now exist...may have to pick one up.  Simple storyline here:  The Bite Club ended the Black Hand Warriors' Tag Team Title reign so Travis sent his other tag team after them for some payback.  Would like to see more of Santel and McDarby; they're an underrated tag team.  They seem to have found some middle ground on their ring attire with the jeans over the wrestling tights.  At any rate, Mapache got the pin on Santel after he and Jackal hit splashes off opposite turnbuckles at 8:07.

Steven Kennedy vs. Danny Adams:  Kennedy has been a face in recent months, but Adams didn't actively work heel so the match came off a bit flat in that regard.  The in-ring work was fine by itself, but the fans weren't really invested in the match.  Kennedy pulled out a few old-school moves, including a Splash Mountain for a late near-fall.  Kennedy got the win with his old finisher, a running middle-turnbuckle moonsault, in 8:28.

Brandon Aarons vs. Paco Gonzalez vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher:  I've said a few times in the past that multi-way matches have jumped the shark for me; three-way bouts are particularly tricky depending on the face/heel balance.  If it's two heels and one face, the formula tends to be "heels double-team face, then fight each other over who gets the win".  In a case like this one(two faces and one heel), the heel tends to bide his time and let the other two fight it out.  That was the case here as Gallagher took advantage of the situation...Paco went up for the frog splash and Gallagher pushed him off the turnbuckles, then rolled up Aarons with a handful of tights at 5:22.

Mike Outlaw vs. Sir Isaac:  This was a face/face matchup between two of Dynamo's newest rookies.  I had only seen Isaac in the battle royal at the July Glen Carbon show and this was his first singles bout.  Unfortunately, a face-vs.-face match between two relatively unknown competitors didn't amount to much emotional investment on the part of the fans in attendance.  Would like to see these guys against different opposition in the future, though.  Outlaw won by blocking Isaac's sunset flip off the second rope in 6:05.

Executive Director Mark Bland called out Heavyweight/Tag Team Champion Ricky Cruz to set up the stipulations for the main event.  The no-disqualification stipulation made sense since Ricky got disqualified against Shorty in Eureka to save his title.  Bland stumbled over the announcement a bit, but he made Outtkast the special guest referee for the main event.  I'm not a big fan at all of stacking the deck against a heel...it's bass-ackwards.  What's the payoff supposed to be...a match between Ricky Cruz and Mark Bland?  Who does that really help?

Dash Rando vs. Cavana Fantastic:  This stemmed from a match in June when Fantastic turned on Rando in a tag match against the Professionals.  The crowd was dead for this match as well...it was a comedy character who rarely wins and a comedic heel who just resurfaced after a long sabbatical.  Cavana finally hit the superkick after a few tries and pinned Rando with feet on the ropes at 5:17.

Outtkast vs. Elvis Aliaga:  Thankfully, Aliaga went back to his heel roots after being a face at previous Dynamo shows in Fenton.  It was an uphill battle after the previous few segments, but at least this match had a standard face/heel structure.  It was solid for what it was; each man escaped the other's signature moves and Outtkast escaped a TCB(Falcon Arrow) attempt, getting the rollup pin in 6:23.

"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. "Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook):  These two had some great battles in SICW over the Classic Title; I was looking forward to this one after it was announced.  It seemed like a condensed version of the matches they had in SICW.  Dirden's Asiatic Spike is over as a finisher, but his variation of the move where he delivers a thumb strike to the throat and essentially throttles the opponent to the mat for the pin...not so much.  That ending seemed to fall flat with the fans(as did several things on this night)...Dirden got the win in 7:49.

The intermission was oddly timed as it didn't happen in the middle of the show, but toward the end after seven matches with two to go.

High Level Enterprise(Jack Gamble & Jon Webb) vs. The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook):  This stemmed from a World League Wrestling storyline; Gamble had joined the BHWs in both WLW and Dynamo, but double-crossed them in WLW to rejoin his partner Webb and regain the WLW Tag Titles.  Travis did some pre-match mic work with Gamble to establish the storyline...again, a lot of stuff on this night was an uphill battle when it came to getting the fans into things.  My friends noted DeLorean's resemblance to Kevin Steen both in looks and in some of his moveset.  They traded a lot of big moves in the home stretch; myself and my friends were wondering if it'd end on a rollup of some kind after all of that, but that wasn't the case.  DeLorean pinned Gamble after a top-rope Air Raid Crash(!) in 13:27.

Heavyweight/Tag Team Champion "The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz vs. "The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs, no-DQ match for the Heavyweight Title, referee Outtkast:  Neither guy got much of a reaction when they came out, sadly.  Outtkast made a few early fast-counts for Shorty's pin attempts before settling into a more standard cadence.  There were plenty of bells and whistles in this one...Outtkast tried to stop Ricky from using weapons on a few occasions(but it was no-DQ!).  There was a weird dissension tease when Shorty used Ricky's brass knuckles against him and Outtkast was randomly occupied with something at the timekeeper's table and didn't count the pin fast enough.  Cruz finally brought in a chair and whacked Outtkast with it when he tried to stop him...at that point, who could really blame him?  Bland tried to get involved and was accidentally knocked off the apron by Shorty when Cruz sidestepped him.  Jay King took over the officiating as Outtkast was helped to the backstage area...Ricky stunned Shorty with the knucks and superkicked him for the pin at 11:52.

No local wrestling in my area next weekend, from the looks of things...I won't mind a weekened off at this point.  Hopefully Dynamo can rebound in the future...they're the next show on the personal schedule as they're back in Fenton on September 6th.

Upcoming:
-Saturday 9/6:  Dynamo in Fenton, MO
-Saturday 9/13:  MMWA in St. Louis, MO
-Friday 9/19:  Dynamo in Glen Carbon, IL
-Saturday 9/20:  SICW in East Carondelet
-Saturday 9/27:  SICW in Fairmont City, IL; MMWA in Herculaneum, MO

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

-Heavyweight/Tag Team Champion "The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz d. "The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs in a no-DQ match to retain the Heavyweight Title; Outtkast was the special guest referee.  Outtkast was biased in favor of his tag team partner Shorty, leading to Cruz finally blowing his top and bashing Outtkast in the head with a chair.  Mark Bland tried to restore order but Cruz sidestepped a charging Shorty, leading to Shorty accidentally knocking Bland off the ring apron.  Another referee took over the match and Cruz went on to win after hitting Shorty with brass knuckles, then finishing the job with a superkick (11:52).

Comedy Part 521: Opening For Dustin Diamond

Location:  Hey Guys Comedy
Emcee:  Me
Feature:  Ben Bergman
Headliner:  Dustin Diamond

I hadn't hosted a weekend comedy show in a while...I emceed for Tom Foss at the Comedy Forum in 2008 and opened for Wild Bill Bauer(RIP), Michael Thorne, Ward Anderson, and Tim Walkoe at Comedy Etc. II.  My opportunity came as a result of several people coming to the open-mic show on Wednesday to see me, including my next-door neighbors who hadn't seen me perform before.  Several people came out to the late show last night, including my cousin Jason and his wife as well as wrestling compatriots like Drew Abbenhaus, Dale, and Tim.  Much appreciation for the support...

At any rate, I nailed the announcements and the introductions.  I did a fairly quick opening set and almost everything went over well...of course, I'll dwell on the one joke I botched since I totally blanked on the follow-up that might have saved it.  Oh well...all things considered, it was a really fun night.  Shoutout to Josh Funneman who had his first hosting spot at the 8:00 show last night...sounds like he did a great job, considering he's only been doing comedy for a few months.  All the best to Andrew Hagan and Ryno Burns who are hosting the shows tonight...have fun!

Two of my neighbors came to the show tonight, which was pretty cool...felt a little weird about certain joke subjects, though.  :)  I was in the middle of the list and feel like I did well, though I didn't do as many new jokes as I would have liked.  As it turned out, bringing people to the show was one of the main factors in Bruce Veach's hosting choices for the weekend...so I'll be the emcee for the 10:00 show on Friday with headliner Dustin Diamond(of Saved By The Bell fame).  Neat.

SICW Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling show at the Community Center in East Carondelet, Illinois.

It had been a rough week with all the drama in Ferguson plus the death of Robin Williams...I was at the point where I considered staying home or doing something else for the evening.  Nothing against SICW; it was a case of mental weight on my end.

Attendance was solid; it wasn't a TOTALLY packed house like it had been for previous shows this year.  It had been rainy for most of the day; rain wasn't falling when I was driving to the show or when the show ended, but it was pouring when I left the building to go home.

At any rate:  Your ring announcer was Drew Abbenhaus(who's getting more comfortable in his role...no substitute for experience and all that).  Your referees were Jay King and Keith Smith Jr.

Joker vs. "All About Me" Mallaki Matthews:  Mallaki gave Drew a personalized introduction to read...nice touch.  Decent enough opener; Mallaki got the upset win in 3:26 after hitting a version of the Union Jack neckbreaker(jumping off the second rope to hit the move).

"The Man Of Tomorrow" Daniel Eads vs. "Money" Matt Cage:  Was looking forward to this one; Eads has shown a lot of potential in his first year or so.  Been a fan of Cage for a while; he had a busy weekend as he main-evented at AAW in the Chicago area, dropping the Heritage Title to Heidi Lovelace.  Cage threw out a tribute to visiting guest Paul Orndorff with the boogie-woogie elbowdrop...bwahahaha.  Nice finish that reminded me of Arn Anderson's punch-fake-DDT spot; Cage ducked and covered when Eads went for the Superman Punch, so Eads jumped over him into a sunset flip for the pin in 11:15.  This match was an interesting example of context; elsewhere in the area, the result would be considered an upset with Cage's credentials.  In SICW, Eads is an up-and-coming fan favorite and Cage is a relatively new rulebreaker.

Farmer Billy Hills vs. "Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook & Bull Bronson):  This was the only card change of the night as Hills subbed for Outtkast for unknown reasons.  Travis had a laundry list of excuses for Kasa's title loss, claiming blatant interference on the part of Red River Jack & Big Daddy (and he hates outside interference!).  I hadn't seen Hills in several years; he worked a few IHW shows but mostly sticks to central Illinois.  Kasa had trouble dealing with his larger opponent, but Travis and Bronson got in a few shots behind the referee's back.  Kasa got the win with the John Wu Dropkick(that needs an updated name) in 8:40.

Promoter Herb Simmons interviewed "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff in the ring, fresh off his appearance on WWE Raw the previous Monday.  I'm bitterly disappointed that they didn't have his mid-'90s WCW theme like they did on Raw (looking at you, Ben Simon).  Anywho, Flash Flanagan made an appearance and Orndorff got a step ahead of him right away by grabbing his kendo stick...heh.  Flanagan claimed that Orndorff once blew him off on an autograph request when he was a kid...to be fair, he WAS a bad guy at the time.  Flash made a big production out of giving Orndorff HIS autograph on an 8x10...signing it to "Paula", a name used to taunt him in that '90s WCW stint.  Orndorff proceeded to wipe his posterior with the 8x10 and tear it up...bwahahaha.

J.J. Garrett vs. Mohamad Ali Vaez:  Vaez was making his SICW debut; he's a regular for Ohio Valley Wrestling.  He attacked Garrett before the ring introductions, then enlightened the fans in his native language...not quite sure if it was Farsi or what, but IT WASN'T 'MURICAN, THAT'S FER SURE!  Fine matchup here, largely controlled by Vaez...amazingly, I correctly predicted the finisher(camel clutch) without ever having seen one of Vaez's matches.  That sealed the deal in 5:05, after which Vaez reiterated his sentiments in English.

Red River Jack(w/ Big Daddy) vs. Ax Allwardt:  This was a tougher test for the masked newcomer; RRJ controlled the early stages of the bout, but Ax got in a cheapshot with his chain and turned things around for a bit.  However, Jack fought back to win with the Double-R-J(Diamond Cutter, said to be named in homage to Randy Orton's RKO) in 5:10.  Jack dished out some table abuse on Ax after the bell...not sure if Big Daddy can fully control this big guy.

"Night Train/Great One/Gorgeous" Gary Jackson, Big Jim Hoffarth, & "The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs vs. Flash Flanagan, Bull Bronson, & Waco, elimination tag match:  Gary pinned Flash in a tag match at the July show, Hoffarth and Waco have their history, and Gary fought Bull a month or two ago...think I got all the history here.  Hoffarth and Waco got each other eliminated; a cheapshot by Hoffarth allowed Shorty to pin Waco after the Shortcut in 6:36.  Waco returned the favor by snapping Hoffarth's throat off the top rope, setting up a rollup by Bronson at 8:44.  Bull continued his dominance by pinning Shorty after a Samoan Drop in 11:36, leaving Jackson in a two-on-one situation.  A miscommunication allowed Jackson to counter Bronson's slam attempt into an inside cradle at 13:42, but Flash took out Gary with the dreaded international object for the final win in 14:32.  I'm a big fan of this particular gimmick match, dating back to the traditional Survivor Series days...hey, St. Louis is getting Survivor Series this year for the first time since 1998!  *cheap plug*

Before the main event, Travis Cook badgered Herb Simmons into guaranteeing Ken Kasa the next title shot...presumably that would happen at the next East Carondelet show on September 20th.

Heath Hatton vs. "The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz for the Classic Title:  This was Hatton's first title defense after ending Kasa's 13-month reign in July.  Cruz lost the title to Kasa under controversial circumstances and only got one rematch which ended in a blatant disqualification; Ricky's frustration over his lack of opportunities led to his recent change in attitude.  Nowadays he holds multiple championships, including the Dynamo Pro Heavyweight and Tag Team Titles.  The fans seemed a bit subdued during this match for some reason and I'm not sure why...I don't think the show was running THAT late.  Maybe they didn't expect a title change this early in Heath's title reign since the previous three reigns were fairly lengthy.  Cruz pulled out some of his flashier offense as he said that Herb wanted to see the "old" Ricky Cruz on this night.  Each guy survived some of the other's best moves, but the finish was controversial as the ref was knocked down by an errent spear by Hatton.  Cruz appeared to have the match won after his third superkick of the match but there was no one to count...then Big Daddy distracted Cruz and Red River Jack entered the ring to drop Cruz with the Double-R-J.  Hatton didn't see the interference and got the pin in 16:32 once the referee recovered.  Red River Jack didn't DIRECTLY get involved last month...but this time was a different story and Ricky Cruz is understandably upset about how things turned out.

Upcoming shows:
-Saturday 8/23:  DPW in Glen Carbon
-Saturday 9/6:  DPW in Fenton
-Saturday 9/13:  MMWA in St. Louis

WWE Raw

-Commentators:  Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-The Big Show & Mark Henry d. The Wyatt Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan); Show PUNCHed out Harper and Rowan, then Henry pinned Rowan after the World's Strongest Slam.

-Natalya Neidhart d. Women's Champion Paige Knight(non-title) when A.J. Lee skipped out to ringside, allowing Natalya to get the rollup pin.
-Mike Mizanin d. Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler by countout(Ziggler retained the title).  Miz destroyed Ziggler's leg and they fought outside the ring, then up to the ring apron; Dolph superkicked Miz and fell to the floor, but Miz fell through the ropes and beat the ten-count as a result.  Miz sought to do some post-match damage but fell victim to the Zigzag.
-Antonio Cesaro d. Jack Swagger via Neutralizer; Swagger was still injured from last night's flag match.  Bo Dallas came out to trash Swagger after the match, but told him to BO-LIEVE~!
-U.S. Champion Sheamus O'Shaunessy, Roman Reigns, & Rob Van Dam d. Randy Orton, Ryback, & Curtis Axel when RVD pinned Axel after the five-star frog splash.
-Goldust & Stardust d. Tag Team Champions Jimmy & Jey Uso(non-title); Jey tried to cut off Stardust from making a tag, but Stardust went up and over into a sunset flip for the flash pin.
-Seth Rollins d. Dean Ambrose in a falls-count-anywhere match.  Other fan vote choices for the stipulation:  No-DQ and no-holds-barred(err, weren't all of those matches pretty much the same thing?).  Highlights included a running Ligerbomb onto a pile of chairs by Rollins and a superplex through a table by Ambrose.  Kane interfered when Ambrose had it won with the Dirty Deeds(headlock driver); Dean kept fighting but finally got chokeslammed on the broadcast table by Kane.  Rollins gave him an advanced curbstomp onto the table(which didn't break)...then Kane uncovered a stack of cinderblocks(!) at ringside and Rollins curbstomped him onto those.  The referee finally had to stop the match and aware it to Rollins.

-T.V. Champion C.B. Suave & "Do Or Die" Chip Day d. "Country Jacked" Corey Hollis & "The Italian-American Bad Boy" Tommy Penirelli; Day kicked Penirelli to break up the Guinea Lock(anklelock) on Suave, allowing Suave to roll up Penirelli for the pin (15:58 aired).
-"Wrestling's Most Dangerous Weapon" Geter d. "The Deadly Sin" Se7en(w/ Agent/Attorney Jeff G. Bailey) by DQ when "The No-Pain Train" Iceberg attacked Geter with a backboard (3:37 aired).  "The Priest Of Punishment" Mikael Judas made the save with a baseball bat before Iceberg could do damage with his "implement of mass destruction".

-"Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen d. "The King Of Old School" Steve Corino with the package piledriver.  Jimmy Jacobs entered the ring to embrace Steen, but it was a setup for an attack by Roderick Strong and B.J. Saturday SICW Results From East Carondelet, IL

-"All About Me" Mallaki Matthews d. Joker after a Union Jack-style neckbreaker off the second rope (3:26).
-"The Man Of Tomorrow" Daniel Eads d. "Money" Matt Cage; Cage ducked and covered when Eads went for the Superman Punch, so Eads stopped short and sunset-flipped him for the flash pin (11:15).
-"Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook & Bull Bronson) d. Farmer Billy Hills after the John Wu Dropkick (8:40).
-Promoter Herb Simmons interviewed "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff in the ring but was interrupted by Flash Flanagan.  After Orndorff grabbed Flash's kendo stick away from him, Flanagan complained that Orndorff once blew him off for an autograph request when he was a young fan.  Flash made a big production out of producing one of his own 8x10 pictures and autographing it for Orndorff's benefit(even addressing it "To PAULA"), but Orndorff ripped up the 8x10 in short order.
-Mohamad Ali Vaez d. J.J. Garrett with the camel clutch (5:05).  Vaez attacked Garrett before the ring introductions and spoke to the crowd in his native language before the bout officially started.  Afterwards, he let everyone know(in English) that he was there to make an impact.
-Red River Jack(w/ "The Famous" Big Daddy) d. Ax Allwardt with the Double-R-J(Diamond Cutter) (5:10).  Jack abused Ax with the timekeeper's table after the bell.
-Flash Flanagan, Bull Bronson, & Waco(w/ Travis Cook) d. "Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson, Big Jim Hoffarth, & "The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs in an elimination tag match.  Hoffarth hit Waco from the ring apron and Shorty got the pin after the Shortcut(corkscrew snapmare driver) in 6:36.  Waco returned the favor by snapping Hoffarth's throat off the top rope behind the referee's back, allowing Bronson to roll up Hoffarth for a three-count in 8:44.  Shorty was the next to be eliminated as Bull pinned him after a Samoan Drop in 11:36.  That left Gary alone against two opponents, but he took advantage of a backfired double-team and countered a Bronson slam attempt with an inside cradle, getting the fall at 13:42.  However, Flanagan had the last laugh as he KOed Jackson with a foreign object hidden in his trunks; he got the winning pinfall in 14:32.
-Before the main event, Travis Cook wanted Herb Simmons to guarantee him that Ken Kasa would get his title rematch against the winner of the Hatton-Cruz matchup.  Herb wanted Travis to apologize to the fans for insulting them...which Travis did in his own backhanded way.
-Heath Hatton d. Big Daddy made an appearance at ringside, distracting Cruz and setting him up for a Double-R-J from Red River Jack...Hatton, unaware of the interference, revived and made the cover on Cruz as the referee recovered to make the three-count (16:32).

MMWA Extra Comment

I feel like I have done the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance a disservice in recent months. After missing their April show due to bronchitis, the local wrestling schedule has been extremely full and I haven't been to any South Broadway events. Fortunately, the magic of YouTube has allowed me to keep track of the goings-on...

I'm not a big fan of heel authority figures in general...my philosophy is that people go to independent wrestling shows to see something DIFFERENT from what's on television. That applies to both heel authority figures and extended talking segments. They did add Jim Harris as Assistant Commissioner to keep Sean Orleans from abusing his power too much.

The table has already been set for the September show(which I SHOULD be able to attend); that show will feature the annual King Of St. Louis Cable Tournament. Six men have qualified: Tag Team Champions A.J. Williams & Da'Marius Jones, T.V. Champion Moondog Rover, Gary Jackson, Barackus, and J-Mal Swagg. I imagine the field will be completed by Survivor Champion Dave Osborne and new Jr. Heavyweight Champion Everett Connors, though Andrew Wilder could also be a candidate after his strong showing against Heavyweight Champ Brandon Espinosa.

The Tag Title match I had prognosticated last month came to pass as Williams & Jones defended against former champions LaMarcus Clinton & Chase King(who had never lost the titles in the ring). Both LMC and King had taken sabbaticals from wrestling and the titles just vanished from the MMWA picture; the titles were reactivated in April when Jackson Whitechapel & Sean Orleans defeated Jones & Jake Dempsey to become the new champions. Nice teamwork by both sides in this one.

The T.V. Title match had plenty of stipulations on top of being a championship bout; the winner qualified for King Of STL Cable AND Mephisto had to eat dog food if he lost. Mephisto went a bit more aerial than usual in this one with a suicide dive and (missed) Lionsault. Gary Jackson stopped Mephisto from walking away from the stipulation, so it looks like that issue isn't quite over.

Gary Jackson vs. Tony Kozina shaped up to be an old-school technical battle...and it was, despite Kevin Lee Davidson's interference on a few occasions. My esteemed colleague Drew Abbenhaus said that he'd never seen a tapout from a figure-four reversal and I don't think I had either.

There could be some trouble in Elitism paradise, judging by the battle royal. Jackson Whitechapel may be a bit tired of Sean Orleans forcing him to do the lion's share of the work in their tag matches and then hogging the glory at the end. They had some communication near the start of the battle royal that led to Whitechapel attacking Orleans, then Orleans low-bridging Whitechapel out of the match...hmm. Tag partners King and LMC got former Survivor Champ Stevie K out of the match only to be dumped one right after the other by Osborne. Evan Gelistico hung back and let the other guys battle it out...rookie Laurence Johnson got J-Mal Swagg out, only for Gelistico to send him to the floor. Osborne took great pleasure in eliminating Orleans...then had a pretty good exchange with Gelistico before finally winning to retain his title. This was the first time in a few months that the former Battle Royal Title had been defended in a battle royal...so there you have it.

After Everett Connors pinned Ace Hawkins in last month's gauntlet match, Hawkins claimed it was a fluke and Connors could never beat him in a straight one-on-one match. To be fair, Ace had been in the ladder match with Andrew Wilder earlier in the night and wasn't in the best of shape. The rookie Connors has been working quite a bit around the area, appearing for Dynamo Pro as well as PWCS. The match built up pretty well and I personally wasn't expecting a title change, but Connors finally hit the guillotine legdrop to score the huge upset! It sounds like Ace is taking a break from wrestling...going by the subtle hints of him throwing a tantrum and QUITTING after the loss.

The only match I didn't see on YouTube was Barackus & J-Mal Swagg vs. Brian James & Johnathan Zulu...Swagg pinned Zulu for the win. The loss meant that last year's King Of STL Cable winner was out of the running for this year's tourney...perhaps he'll challenge for Espy's title at the September show as I don't think he's had a one-on-one rematch since losing the title back to Espinosa. If I remember right, the tournament winner can get a shot at any title of his choosing whenever he wants...so if a member of the Elitism wins it, would that person challenge for Espinosa's title or not?

Andrew Wilder had a good showing against Espinosa in the main event, but Orleans' distraction cost him the match. Wilder is really good for his level of experience; it would probably do him some good to add a bit of bulk(he was announced at 145 lbs., if I remember right) and get some tights/trunks instead of the baggy shorts.

At any rate, I should finally get back to the South Broadway Athletic Club in September...looking forward to it. I'm a big fan of wrestling tournaments so that'll be a fun part of the show...

Comedy Part 518: Hey Guys, Let's Take Our Minds Off Real Life

Location: Hey Guys Comedy
Emcee: Joe "The Animal" Lancey
After: Angel Kircher
Before: Arlo Christie

It's been a real bummer of a week, especially in this particular part of the country. In that regard, it was nice to get out to a comedy show and have some fun. I tried to stick with newer material, including one totally new line; I feel like I did pretty well. I'm on vacation from work next week, so I'm planning to get to some more open-mic shows...especially venues where I haven't performed yet.
