Comedy Part 842: Tilapia-Powered Comedy

Location:  Schmitty's Sunset Inn (Troy, IL)
Emcee:  Joe "The Animal" Lancey
After:  Joe "The Animal" Lancey
Before:  Wayne Wiskow

I wanted to dust off an older bit so I could talk it out and remember how it went...I probably should have dug out my notebook to actually read some of the tags I had written down.  As it was, it came off rather clumsily-delivered.  My set was all right, though it didn't go over as well as I would have liked...just another motivator to write new material.  I also need to dig out the notebook so I can go through my previous ideas and see if there's anything worth re-evaluating.  Nothing coming up in the immediate future, other than the traditional open-mics (Tuesday at the Funny Bone, perhaps Thursdays at Apotheosis in the future).

Comedy Part 841: Could Have Been Better

Location:  Westport Funny Bone
Emcee:  Ronaldo Mercado
After:  Phillip Cornell
Before:  Matt Wiseman

With a lot of comedians in town for the World Series Of Comedy, over fifty people signed up for Tuesday's open-mic.  Despite that and the presence of a few first-timers, I somehow still made the list which honestly shocked me.  I had one new joke to try but I stumbled over it...ugh.  I've had a few sets lately where I got great reactions from the audience, but on this night I just did..."okay", I guess.  It showed me that I still have a lot of work to do, especially in writing new material.  I need to make a point to set aside time for that as my creative process has been slower than I'd like...better luck next time and all that.  Next time looks to be Sunday at Schmitty's Sunset Inn in Troy, Illinois...hope to see you there.

Comedy Part 840: Thrice

Location:  Mandy's in O'Fallon, IL
Emcee:  Roman Ramos
After:  Steve Froyler
Before:  Jerry Wahl

I've been busy this past week so I'm just now getting to my blog about the open-mic last Thursday night.  It was my third open-mic in as many nights; I went up pretty early and had another strong set.  A few people said I should go on later in the night after the crowd has been warmed up a bit...I have generally been one of the most experienced comics on these shows.  If I'm going to performing this regularly, I'll need to get back to writing...but I may just take it easy this week since I've been under the weather for the past few days.  Helium doesn't have an open-mic and it may be a gametime decision whether I go to the Funny Bone tomorrow or just head home.  In the meantime, I need to go out and get some NyQuil or something...ugh.
