Checked out this show on a whim...after work and Doordashing on Friday, I realized that I would be able to drive to downtown Belleville in time for this new open-mic's signup. They're pretty cool with giving a decent amount of time as each comedian got up to ten minutes, so I had time to pace myself and deliver a good set. I even worked out a few new parts to my recent bit about accidentally discovering a parking garage hookup (based on a true story!). It was essentially a bar open-mic so the audience was chatty at times, but I and other comics powered through and put on a good show. Hope to be back in the near future!

Sometimes comedy is killing in front of a big crowd. Other times it's driving an hour to power through fifteen minutes in front of a smaller semi-responsive audience, but hey, you got paid and got food on the house. I'm not doing as many open-mics lately because I've honestly had a lot on my mind besides writing new material...hopefully that can change in the near future.

I'd never performed at a windmill before, so this open-mic was a first. It was an outdoor show on the patio of the in-house restaurant and I went up early, so the audience was energetic. I felt that I had a really good performance, setting the tempo for the rest of the show. Some of the comics even got a tour of the windmill afterwards, which was really cool. I'd never been to the windmill despite traveling near it many times in my life; my great-grandparents used to live near the Bevo Mill so my mom would drive near the windmill on the way to their house. I knew them as "Windmill" Grandma & Grandpa as a result...heh. I have a wrestling-themed comedy show on Saturday in Mount Vernon...woo.
