NXT + Impact

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tony Dawson & S. William Regal.  Ring announcers:  Summer Rae & Byron Saxton.

Alex Riley & Derrick Bateman vs. Kassius Ohno & Leo Kruger, Tag Team Title Tournament:  The winners will face Adrian Neville & Oliver Grey in the semifinals.  Haven't seen much of Riley or Bateman lately...Regal says Bateman's returning from a knee injury.  Ohno/Kruger have more experience as a duo(to say nothing of Ohno's past partnership with the artist now known as Antonio Cesaro).  Bateman was briefly FCW Tag Champ with Johnny Curtis but this is the first time he and Riley have teamed up.

Riley & Bateman look sharp in the early going, but Kruger avoids Bateman's high knee in the corner and the heels target the bad wheel.  After several minutes of abuse, Riley finally gets the hot tag...the house is on fire!  Things break down as Bateman and Kruger take it to the floor, leading to Ohno rolling up Riley for a near-fall.  Riley nails Leo but Ohno wipes out Riley with IT"S THE BIG FOOT, then makes him tap out to a modified CRAVATE~!  (I guess Wade Barrett has dibs on the forearm smash now...)

After the match, Corey Graves runs into the ring and locks Riley in the 13th Step(Fuller leglock)...they had a backstage altercation last week that led to this.  It takes a few referees to restore order...

Mason Ryan vs. Kazma Sakamoto:  Well, I guess Sakamoto's not a follower any more(the meaning behind his "Adeshi" name in WWE).  It's a return-from-oblivion week as Ryan's been missing for a while.  I don't see this being too competitive...Sakamoto manages to get in a few offensive maneuvers but a fallaway slam puts an end ot that.  IT'S THE BIG FOOT(popular move tonight) sets up the Jackhammer for the win.

Paige Knight vs. Aksana Raudoniene:  Paige is OVAH~!  Aksana overpowers Paige right out of the gate and does a good job of maintaining control after that.  Paige fires up and yanks Aksana off the turnbuckles, then hooks her in a modified Texas Cloverleaf for the tapout!  Paige accidentally bumps into Summer as she announces the result...and Summer nails Paige from behind before storming off!

Backstage, Renee Young interviews Sasha Banks about her first NXT win last week.  A random guy gives Sasha a letter from a secret admirer...goodie, that always turns out well.  *snicker*

Bo Dallas & Michael McGillicutty vs. Primo & Epico Colon(w/ Rosa Mendes), Tag Team Title Tournament:  These teams are no strangers to each other...Bo and Michael just started teaming up but the Colon cousins are former WWE Tag Champs.  Epico notably has his hair down instead of sporting his usual cornrows.  Byron replaces Summer as ring announcer...the winners will face The Wyatt Family in the semifinals.  Dallas was FCW Tag Champ with his brother Husky Harris(aka Duke Rotundo, now known as Bray Wyatt)...McGillicutty was a WWE Tag Champ with David Otunga.

Dallas and McGillicutty show some great tandem moves, but MM ends up on the wrong side of the ring and Epico dropkicks him to the floor.  The Colons control the action until Dallas finally tags into the match...time to speed up the pace!  Bo hits a turnbuckle-walk bulldog on Primo but Epico breaks up the pin...Epico takes MM out of the match and Primo rolls up Dallas with a handful of tights...for two.  Primo hits a hammerlock DDT(!)...for 2 1/2.  Primo comes off the ropes, but he runs into the snap belly-to-belly suplex and Dallas gets the win!

Next week:  Tag Title tournament semifinals with Neville/Grey vs. Ohno/Kruger and Dallas/McGillicutty vs. Wyatt Family.

TNA Impact

-Joseph Park d. Robbie Eckos(w/ Robbie Terry) after a splash off the second rope.
-Austin Aries(w/ Bobby Roode) d. Tag Team Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr.(w/ Shawn Hernandez); Roode distracted the ref after Chavo hit the frog splash, leading to Aries recovering to hit a corner dropkick and brainbuster for the three-count.
-James Storm & Velvet Sky d. Jessie Godderz & Women's Champion Tara Varon when Velvet pinned Tara after the In Yo' Face(sitout Pedigree).
-Kurt Angle(w/ Wes Brisco) d. Ken Anderson via anklelock in a cage match.  Afterwards, a masked member of the Aces & Eights climbed into the cage and Wes locked the door behind him...but the man unmasked to reveal Garett Bischoff.  Wes claimed innocence only to clip Angle from behind as he went after Garett...both of them are with the Aces & Eights.

Midweek wrestling

WWE Main Event

-Commentators:  Michael Cole & Mike Mizanin.
-MizTV with Ryback led to an interruption by U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro which led to...
-Ryback d. U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro by countout(non-title).  Cesaro rolled out of the ring like he did last week, but this time he booted Miz in the face before retreating over the ringside barricade.
-Lord Tensai d. Titus O'Neil(w/ Darren Young) after the Baldo Bomb and running senton; Brodus Clay and the Funkadactyls came out midway through the match when Young teased interfering.  On the heels of their dance-off on Raw, we seem to have a new tag team in the form of Brodus and Tensai...

TNA XPlosion

WWE Raw

-Commentators:  Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-Raw Roulette~!
-Randy Orton d. U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro(non-title); Mike Mizanin was the referee.  Cesaro got distracted when he argued with Miz, leading to Orton hitting the RKO for the win.  Miz hit Cesaro with the Skull-Crushing Finale afterwards.
-Bo Dallas d. Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett(non-title) after a snap belly-to-belly suplex.
-John Cena d. Cody Rhodes with the F-U.  He chose to challenge for the WWE Title at WrestleMania and was then attacked by The Shield.  Sheamus O'Shaunessy and Ryback ran in to help but they were all laid out...Ryback was rammed into the steel steps, Sheamus got posted, and Cena took the triple-team powerbomb.
-A non-title bodyslam challenge between World Champion Alberto Del Rio(w/ Ricardo Rodriguez) and The Big Show never started as Show PUNCHed out Alberto right away, then duct-taped him to the ropes before destroying a helpless Ricardo.
-A non-title lumberjill match between Women's Champion Kaitlyn Bonin and Tamina Snuka ended in a no-contest when all of the lumberjills started catfighting.
-Sheamus O'Shaunessy d. Damien Sandow in a table match by hitting the White Noise through a table set up in the corner.
-Tag Team Champions Hell No(Kane & Daniel Bryan) d. Chris Jericho & Dolph Ziggler(w/ A.J. Lee & Big E Langston)(non-title) when Kane pinned Dolph after the chokeslam.

MECW Special Comment

Bigger turnout than usual for MECW...plenty of hype behind Davey Richards' first appearance for the promotion.

No changes to the previously-announced matches. Notable absences included Brandon Espinosa and Ace Hawkins(who worked Zero-One Midwest/Supreme that night) as well as Tag Champ Shorty Biggs(not on the talent list for the show). Independent Champion Brandon Aarons wasn't there and MECW stripped him of his title...that came out of nowhere. On the other side of things, three wrestlers made their inaugural appearances for the promotion: Billy McNeil, Matt King, and The Big Texan.

The show was a tribute to one of the regular MECW fans who recently passed away...I didn't know him, but his name was Kenny and he was a part of the "Fuzzy Hat Club"(guys who go to local wrestling shows and get really drunk while wearing their namesake headgear).

Going by the few matches of his that I've seen, it seems like Matt King might be more comfortable as a heel.

Mr. K(by virtue of his lumberjack match win over Mauler McDarby at the December show) is back in control of the company...I saw Sarin Sinn in the house but he didn't wrestle. Not sure about his part in that angle...did McDarby and the suddenly-absent Shawn Santel form an alliance of convenience at some point?

Kozina turned on Chase King during a tag match at the previous show, so King was fired up for some payback...unfortunately his temper got him disqualified and put the Independent Title on Kozina.

Two reasons to like King Fale: 1) His T-shirt says "Epic Fale". 2) He uses the TONGAN DEATH TRIP~! in 2013. Fale and Chris Logan fought at the December show with Logan winning, but this time Natural Fury interfered to cost Logan the match.

Just as I was wondering about the two DQ finishes to the night's title matches, Mr. K ordered a restart...and Evan Money won his first championship in the promotion where he got his start. Good for him.

Kyle O'Reilly did work MECW once several years ago(against Krotch) before he gained more notoriety on the national scene, so this wasn't QUITE his "debut" with them. I know, I nitpick...apparently it's just what I do. I keep track of wrestling stuff so you don't have to...you're welcome. :-D

Kozina and Mike Anthony have crossed paths a few times at recent MECW shows...is that the next feud for the Independent Title? Obviously Kozina still has issues with Chase King...and if Brandon Aarons returns, he'll probably want to regain the belt he didn't lose in the ring.

Disappointed to not get the full singles match between Eric Allen and Davey Richards...maybe at a later date?

Good job of pushing the next show since it's in two weeks already...already loaded with Allen vs. Michael Elgin and Logan vs. Richards. Good times, at any rate...as it stands right now(schedule subject to change), February looks like SLA, MECW, MMWA, and SICW(Fairmont City).

WWE Royal Rumble

Preshow:  Antonio Cesaro d. Mike Mizanin with the Neutralizer to retain the U.S. Title.

Alberto Del Rio(w/ Ricardo Rodriguez and a pre-match backstage endorsement from Bret Hart) d. The Big Show in a last-man-standing match to retain the World Title; Del Rio won after Ricardo duct-taped Show's feet to the bottom rope and he couldn't get up before the ten-count.

Hell No(Kane & Daniel Bryan) d. The Rhodes Scholars(Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) to retain the Tag Team Titles when Bryan made Sandow tap out to the No Lock.

Royal Rumble:
#1 Dolph Ziggler(w/ A.J. Lee & Big E Langston)
#2 Chris Jericho(!)
#3 Cody Rhodes
#4 Kofi Kingston
#5 Santino Marella, but he's quickly tossed by Cody(1)
#6 Drew McIntyre
#7 Titus O'Neil...Jericho eliminated Drew(2).
#8 Goldust(!) and he fights with his loving brother Cody right away.
#9 David Otunga
#10 Heath Slater
#11 Sheamus O'Shaunessy...bye Titus(3), see ya Otunga(4).
#12 Lord Tensai
#13 Brodus Clay(w/ Funkadactyls)...Cody finally tossed Goldust(5).
#14 Rey Misterio Jr.
#15 Darren Young; Brodus was eliminated by a gang attack(6), then Kofi eliminated Tensai(7).
#16 Bo Dallas; Kofi had his stuntman sequence to avoid elimination and tossed Young(8) only to get eliminated by Cody(9).
#17 The Godfather(w/ ladies), but Dolph dropkicked him out right away(10).
#18 Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett
#19 John Cena...bye Heath(11), see ya Cody(12).
#20 Damien Sandow; Wade eliminated Rey(13).
#21 Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan
#22 U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro
#23 The Great Khali
#24 Tag Team Champions Kane
#25 Zack Ryder; Kane eliminated Khali(14), Bryan accidentally knocked Kane out(15), then Cesaro eliminated Bryan(16).
#26 Randy Orton...bye Ryder(17).
#27 Jinder Mahal...Cena tossed Cesaro(18).
#28 Mike Miznain...Sheamus eliminated Mahal(19), so #27 didn't win THIS year.
#29 Sin Cara...Bo Dallas surprisingly eliminated Barrett(20), but Barrett then pulled Dallas to the floor and nailed him with the Bullhammer(21).
#30 Ryback...time to clear people out, namely Sandow(22), Sin Cara(23), and Miz(24).

Ziggler finally eliminated Jericho(25), then Ryback took out Orton(26).  Dolph ate a Brogue Kick and finally went out for this year's endurance mark of 49:51(27).  That left the three superfaces at the end:  Sheamus, Cena, and Ryback.  Ryback took advantage of a missed Brogue Kick to eliminate Sheamus(28).  Cena eliminated Ryback(29) to win his second Royal Rumble...a rare time when the winner was in the middle of the pack at #19.

The Rock d. C.M. Punk(w/ Paul Heyman) to win the WWE Title.  The lights went out and SOMEONE put Rock through the main announcers' table under the cover of darkness, allowing Punk to roll him back in the ring and get the pin.  However, Vince McMahon came out to strip Punk of the title for the interference...only for Rock to ask for a restart instead.  Punk hit the Macho Elbow for a near-fall, but then Rock countered a Go 2 Sleep attempt into a spinebuster and finished with the People's Elbow for the win and the title.

-Billy McNeil d. Matt King in the opener after a double-kneedrive off the top rope onto a seated King.
-Tony Kozina(w/ Dani Graves) d. Chase King(w/ Mike Anthony) by DQ to win the vacant Independent Title; Kozina spat in King's face and King lost his temper, pummeling Kozina on the mat past the referee's five-count.
-King Fale d. Tag Team Champion Chris Logan(w/ Eric Allen); Natural Fury(Shane Fury & Marcello Spade) ran interference as Fury distracted the ref while Spade hit Logan with a Codebreaker.  After that, Fale got the win with the Tongan Death Grip.  Allen and Davey Richards hit the ring to break up the post-match attack...and Davey accepted Logan's challenge for the February 9th show.
-Evan Money d. Mauler McDarby to win the Great Plains Title.  Money initially won by DQ when McDarby blatantly hit Money with his shillelagh in front of the referee, but Mr. K(back in control of the company after the December show) ordered the match to be restarted.  McDarby went for a bodyslam but Money got him in an inside cradle for the flash pin.
-Kyle O'Reilly d. Darren Dean after the brainbuster.

NXT + Impact

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tony Dawson & S. William Regal.  Ring announcer:  Summer Rae.

Shawn Michaels pays a visit...Dusty Rhodes has passed along the message that we're starting a tournament to crown the first NXT Tag Team Champions.  Sweet.

Yoshi Tatsu & Percy Watson vs. The Wyatt Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan)(w/ Bray Wyatt), Tag Team Title Tournament:  We already had this match but now it means a bit more...don't see it ending differently, though.  Yoshi takes himself and Rowan out of the match with a Cactus Clothesline but Harper levels Percy with a huge discus lariat for the win.

Dusty Rhodes talks to Alex Riley & Derrick Bateman backstage...they're facing Kassius Ohno & Leo Kruger in the Tag Title tournament next week.  Corey Graves arrives and gripes about getting screwed out of his Heavyweight Title shot, then not being a part of the Tag Title tournament...Riley stands up to him as a preview of coming attractions.  Dusty notes that even Graves' former partner Jake Carter got sick of him and THAT'S why he's not in the tournament...Dusty books Carter-Graves for later.

Alicia Fox vs. Sasha Banks:  This will be a tough test for the newcomer Sasha.  Fine diva matchup here...Sasha goes aerial but gets planted with a wheelbarrow drop.  Fox bodyslams her only for Sasha to roll through into an inside cradle for the flash pin...yeah, that's an upset.

Paige Knight is here to be a fighter, not a "diva"...

Newcomer Renee Young interviews Aksana Raudoniene about her match with Paige next week...standard threats ensue.

Conor O'Brian refers to himself as "the true Ascension"...fare thee well, Kenneth Cameron.

Jake Carter vs. Corey Graves:  These two teamed up in the early episodes of NXT6 after being FCW Tag Team Champions, but they drifted apart at some point...even Regal is vague about the reasons for the breakup.  The momentum shifts a few times until Graves takes out the leg...the 13th Step(Fuller Leglock) is a formality after that and Carter taps out.  Corey enlightens us after the match...he's declaring anarchy.

Adrian Neville & Oliver Grey vs. Heath Slater & Drew McIntyre of the 3-Man Band, Tag Team Title Tournament:  Heath and Drew are both former WWE Tag Team Champions with different partners(Heath with Justin Gabriel, Drew with Cody Rhodes)...both were also FCW Tag Champs(Heath with Michael McGillicutty, Drew with Wade Barrett).  Neville seems to be keeping his old indy tagline of "The Man Gravity Forgot"...he and Grey are both Brits so they have that in common.  Neville brings the FLIPPIES~! so Drew just powers him down to the mat in response.  Grey looks good in a technical exchange with Slater...haven't seen much of him before this.  Grey's baseball slide misses the mark but Neville takes out McIntyre with a big somersault plancha!

The 3MB members turn the tide for a while and isolate Grey...Regal notes they do have the advantage in team experience.  Grey back-suplexes Heath and tags are made on both ends...Neville is a house afire!  Drew tries to cut him off but takes an enzuigiri from the apron...Neville fights off Slater, then nails the corkscrew shooting star press on Drew for a big victory!

NXT Champion Big E Langston vs. Axl Keegan, non-title:  Regal says Keegan was trained by Killer Kowalski so he's got that going for him...I still don't see this lasting long.  CHALK UP~!  The commentators make reference to Big E's association with Dolph Ziggler but he's still popular around these parts.  Yup...Vader Smash, Big Ending, and out.

The fans humbly request a five-count...Langston sets up another Big Ending, but Conor O'Brian appears on the TitanTron because he Wants Da Belt.  An unfazed Big E delivers his finisher and makes the obligatory five-count...one more time?  Sure, why not?  Another five-count is made...but the champ's got a new challenge ahead of him now.

Next week:  Riley/Bateman vs. Ohno/Kruger in the Tag Title tournament plus Paige vs. Aksana.

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay, Todd Keneley, & Taz.
-Tara Varon(w/ Jessie Godderz) d. Velvet Sky to retain the Women's Title; Jessie tripped Velvet in mid-suplex and held her foot as Tara fell on top for the pin.
-Kenny King & Shiima Xion d. X-Division Champion Rob Van Dam & Christian York; Xion blind-tagged into the match and stole the pin on York after King's springboard Blockbuster.
-Bobby Roode(w/ Austin Aries) d. Tag Team Champion Shawn Hernandez(w/ Chavo Guerrero Jr.); Hernandez was distracted by Chavo and Aries brawling outside the ring and Roode took advantage with a bulldog out of nowhere for the win.
-Jeff Hardy d. Christopher Daniels(w/ Frankie Kazarian) after the swanton bomb to retain the Heavyweight Title.  After the match, Taz warned Hardy to look out for the Aces & Eights...right before a masked member of the gang took out Hardy's knee from behind with a hammer.

SICW Special Comment

Fine show in East Carondelet this past weekend...not QUITE as crowded as recent events there, but that was fine with me since there was a bit more breathing room. :)

It's a side note for a wrestling commentary, but they did have a moment of silence at the show for the passing of Stan Musial. I was a hardcore baseball Cardinals fan before I became a hardcore wrestling fan, so I know the story of Stan The Man very well. Anyone from this area knows the reverence St. Louisans have towards baseball in general and Musial in particular...he was 92 years old so he lived a full life.

Odd to see a heel-vs.-heel match as the opener. Gallagher's still working the kinks out of his aerial arsenal. Random that Archer ended with a Rude Awakening instead of his usual Michinoku Driver.

Waco has really slimmed down...he always seems to pull out moves you wouldn't expect out of him. He actually went for a Harlem Hangover(somersault legdrop off the top) against Shorty...too bad Shorty moved out of the way.

Wait, two Gary Jackson-Big Texan matches in a row with decisive finishes? GET RIGHT OUT OF TOWN~! On a semi-related note, a friend did a Google search on Gary and found a WCW Main Event match from December 1992 where Gary wrestled Rick Rude...interesting viewing.

King Kong "Bruiser" Brody was a big deal around the St. Louis area...SICW seems to have no less than THREE Brody-inspired people on the roster: Ron Powers(direct protege), Jake Dirden, and Alexandre Rudolph. Only fitting that two of them would team up...much to the chagrin of Jimmy D(ouglas) and Brent Myers. Dirden's moving up in the world in a short period of time...good for him.

Related to the Gary Jackson Google search, I looked up Powers' brief time in WCW...a couple of losses on Nitro to Lex Luger and The Giant(Big Show for you newbie fans) and a win on WCW Saturday Night over Bunkhouse Buck. Can't seem to find the WCWSN match though I'd seen it before...the Nitro matches are easily YouTubed, though.

Odd to see Kevin X playing it straight as a face, but he's always a great asset to any wrestling company. He went the submission route in his match, working the arm to set up his finishing hold, "The Projects". Hadn't seen Purple Passion in a while...yay?

Chaz avenged his loss to Vaughn from last month after some miscommunication with Travis Cook...Wesson is one of those guys who's always been a solid guy in the ring but just never branched out from this area.

Good brawl between Hargas and Rudolph. The matches on this show seemed to get the right amount of time for the most part...I contrast that with last week's MMWA show where a few matches got more time than necessary.

On that note, I will concede that last week's Brandon Espinosa vs. A.J. Williams match was a "spotfest" to some extent and I was bothered a bit by the finisher spam near the end. About the only finisher not used(and kicked out of) was A.J.'s 450 Splash...and it might be a bit early for him to be busting that out so soon after returning to the ring. Didn't say it wasn't a fun and entertaining match to watch, of course.

Devaluing finishers has become a major pet peeve of mine lately...though I know it's not as big a deal on the independent scene. Lance Storm once said that he didn't have one set finisher before his time in the Big Two since there was no mainstream television to establish a big move with the audience. A finisher can be the ace-in-the-hole for a midcard guy...he may be up against a tough opponent, but he always has a chance if he can hit his move.

That digression has a point because of the main event at SICW this past weekend...in a match full of old-school overbooking, it seemed out of place for Ken Kasa to kick out of Ricky Cruz's swinging fisherman buster. Other than that, the move psychology was fine...Cruz went out of his way to avoid Kasa's John Wu Dropkick since it beat him in December.

Travis Cook's mindset is that Cruz felt he couldn't beat Kasa on that night(especially since Kasa survived his finisher) so he "got himself disqualified to save his title". On that note, Travis is protesting that Kasa should be the champion under those circumstances...even though the match was contested under normal championship match rules. I would imagine they're setting up a rematch where the title CAN change hands on a DQ...but Gary Jackson is already lined up for the next shot.

In other news, ACW switched a bunch of their belts in Austin, TX this past Sunday. Bolt Brady beat Carson for the U-30 Title, Jessica James beat Barbi Hayden for the Joshi Title, Athena beat Shawn Vexx for the T.V. Title, and Evan Gelistico beat Rachel Summerlyn for the Heavyweight Title. I'm reading that A.C.H. may be doing more ROH shows in the near future...coolness.

Pro Wrestling Collision had their debut show on Saturday...though it was without AAPW/PWC Heavyweight Champion Edmund "Livewire" McGuire. McGuire surrendered his position as the incoming champion, so the Future Of Collision Tournament was used to crown an inaugural champion instead; Heath Hatton defeated Brandon Espinosa, Alex Castle, and Christian Rose to win the belt.

I got my February schedule mixed up a bit since MMWA and SICW are running a bit differently. Usually MMWA at South Broadway is on the second Saturday of the month and SICW on the third Saturday, but they're reversed for this February. Thus, my upcoming schedule looks like:

1/26: MECW
2/1: SLA
2/9: MECW
2/16: MMWA
2/23: SICW

WWE Raw

-Commentators:  Michael Cole & Jerry Lawler.
-Beat The Clock:  Randy Orton d. U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro(non-title) after the RKO in 11:36.
-The Big Show d. Zack Ryder with the PUNCH; Brad Maddox did commentary for the match.
-Ryback d. Heath Slater(w/ Drew McIntyre & Jinder Mahal) via Shellshock.
-Beat The Clock:  Dolph Ziggler(w/ A.J. Lee & Big E Langston) d. Mike Mizanin after the Zigzag in 10:56.
-Dr. Shelby presided over the anger management graduation of Tag Team Champions Hell No(Kane & Daniel Bryan), complete with caps, gowns, and hugs.
-Women's Champion Kaitlyn Bonin d. Alicia Fox(non-title) with the spear.  Tamina Snuka watched the match on the backstage monitor.
-The Rock interrupted a Paul Heyman promo and addressed WWE Champion C.M. Punk(sitting in the safety of his skybox)...but even The Rock fell victim to a gang attack by The Shield.  They laid him out with the triple-team powerbomb and Punk verbally rubbed salt in the wounds from a safe distance.  The Shield are using the lights-off-lights-on trick for their run-ins lately...hmm, another hint at a connection to Heyman?
-Beat The Clock:  Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett fought Sheamus O'Shaunessy to a draw.  Dolph Ziggler, A.J. Lee, and Big E Langston ran interference in the final minute, causing enough of a distraction so that Sheamus' Brogue Kick was delivered right before the 10:56 time limit expired.  Dolph won the right to pick his Royal Rumble entry number, but Managing Supervisor Vickie Guerrero said he would only be choosing #1 or #2.
-World Champion Alberto Del Rio(w/ Ricardo Rodriguez) d. Lord Tensai(non-title) after the step-up enzuigiri in the corner followed by a middle-rope moonsault.
-Next Hall Of Fame inductee:  Bob Backlund.
-John Cena blabbed to end the show...leading to a difference of opinion with Sheamus O'Shaunessy over who would win the Royal Rumble.  That brought up a bunch of other wrestlers to make their points, cue big fight...

Anarchy Wrestling TV #363

-Commentators:  Tim E.D., Bret Wolverton, & Chuck Porterfield.
-The Urban Assault Squad(Shadow Jackson & Nemesis) d. Najasism & The Vandal to retain the Tag Team Titles when Shadow pinned Najasism after catching him in mid-springboard move with a Shadow Stunner.
-Brandon Parker(w/ Andrew Pendleton III) d. Joey Rhymer with the Snake Eyes(cradle DDT).  Pendleton challenged Rhymer to find a tag team partner for Seasons' Beatings...
-Stryknyn d. Jacoby Boykins to retain the Young Lions' Title.  Boykins accidentally knocked down the referee and Bobby Moore ran in, but Moore accidentally hit Boykins with his loaded elbowpad and Stryknyn got the pin.  (Presumably the belt's old weight limit is out the window.)
-Azrael & Slim J(w/ Iceberg) d. Geter & Se7en(w/ Jeff G. Bailey, Jerry Palmer, & Miss Rachel) by DQ when The Urban Assault Squad members interfered; Iceberg entered the ring with a chair to hold off the heels and confirmed his allegiance to Anarchy Wrestling.

-Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish d. Alabama Attitude(Mike Posey & Corey Hollis); Fish pinned Posey after a brainbuster by O'Reilly accentuated by a roundhouse kick by Fish.
-Top Prospects' Tournament:  Q.T. Marshall(w/ R.D. Evans) d. Mike Sydal with the running Dominator; Truth Martini did commentary for the match.
-The Briscoe Brothers(Jay & Mark) d. Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander to retain the Tag Team Titles when Mark pinned Alexander after the Doomsday Device.  All four men were attacked after the match by Jimmy Jacobs, Steve Corino, and new SCUM member Rhino.
-Next week:  Adam Cole vs. B.J. Whitmer for the T.V. Title, Rhett Titus vs. Matt Hardy, and Adam Page vs. Silas Young in the Top Prospects' Tournament.

Saturday SICW Results From East Carondelet, IL

-Max Archer d. Brandon Gallagher after a Rude Awakening.
-Shorty Biggs d. Waco(w/ Big Texan) by DQ when Waco threw Shorty over the top rope.
-Ring announcer Ben Simon interviewed Sean Vincent who confirmed that he'll be out of action for a year due to his knee injury(suffered at the December show).
-Gary Jackson d. The Big Texan; the referee was momentarily knocked down and Waco tried to interfere with a flying shoulderblock off the top rope, but hit Texan by mistake and Gary got the pin after that.
-Ron Powers & Jake Dirden d. Jimmy Douglas & Brent Myers; Powers pinned Myers after a double big boot with Dirden followed by a diving headbutt off the second rope.
-Larry Matysik interviewed Gary Jackson who issued a challenge to Classic Champion Ricky Cruz; Gary's title shot was set for the February show.
-Kevin X d. Purple Passion with The Projects(armlock camel clutch).
-Chaz Wesson d. Dave Vaughn(w/ Travis Cook); Wesson ran Vaughn into his manager on the ring apron and got the pin with a bridging O'Connor Roll.
-Chris Hargas fought Alexandre Rudolph to a double countout.
-Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) d. Classic Champion Ricky Cruz by DQ; Cruz retained the title.  Before the match, Travis protested Jim Harris' presence as referee(since he had officiated Kasa's previous title shot at Cruz)...that led to Keith Smith Jr. taking Harris' place in the match for the sake of shutting Cook up.  Unfortunately Smith was accidentally hit by Cruz during the match, forcing Harris to re-enter the situation as a replacement.  After a whole lot of interference by Cook and the use of several foreign objects, Cruz hit Kasa with a chair that Kasa had brought into the ring(causing the disqualification).  Travis proclaimed Kasa to be the new champion but Cruz silenced him with a belt shot to the face.

NXT + Impact

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tony Dawson, S. William Regal, & Jim Ross(for the main event).  Ring announcer:  Byron Saxton.

Adrian Neville vs. Adeshi Sakamoto:  Haven't seen Sakamoto in quite a while as he's no longer in Lord Tensai's corner.  Neville enters NXT with a lot of hype from the independent scene where he was known as PAC.  FLIPPIES~!  Sakamoto's trainer TAKA Michinoku is mentioned...miss that guy.  Neville stuns Sakamoto with an enzuigiri and finishes in grand fashion with a corkscrew shooting star press!  Very impressive and deserving of the multiple replays of the finish...hadn't seen PAC before this and he looked good.

Trent Barreta vs. Leo Kruger:  Kruger's recent ally Kassius Ohno joins the broadcast team...he wastes no time in needling Regal.  For his part, Leo wastes no time in targeting Trent's achy-breaky ribs.  Barreta fights through the pain and rallies with a missile dropkick, but Kruger blocks the Dudebuster DDT and hooks a half-crab with his knee planted in Trent's ribcage...PSYCHOLOGY~!  Barreta reaches the ropes and then hits an enzuigiri that sends Leo tumbling out of the ring.  Trent follows up with a huge somersault plancha and that's enough motivation for Ohno to leave his seat.  Barreta throws Kruger back into the ring, but the ref's attention is on Leo when Ohno hits Trent with a roaring elbow outside the ring.  Ohno sends Trent back into the ring and Leo hits the Kruger's End for the three-count...but now REGAL leaves his seat and a second ref arrives to tell the original official what happened.  The decision is reversed and Barreta is announced as the winner by DQ...fare thee well, Dudebuster.

The champ is here...CHALK UP~!  New NXT Champion Big E Langston is ready for his victory promo but Donny Camacho reminds him that he's got an old feud to settle...

NXT Champion Big E Langston vs. Donny Camacho, non-title:  It's unclear whether this is a title match but I assume it isn't...Camacho goes on the attack but Big E turns the tide in a hurry.  Vader Smash, Big Ending, three-count.  Of course that isn't quite enough for Langston...he delivers another Big Ending and then makes his own five-count.  How about another Big Ending and another five-count?  Sure, why not.

Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel vs. U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro & Damien Sandow:  Sandow enlightens the unwashes masses beforehand.  Gabriel got a non-title win over Cesaro not too long ago so there's SOME history...been liking Kidd & Gabriel as a tag team.  YAY WRESTLING~!  The face duo has the advantage in team experience, but the heels have their share of tag experience with different partners(Sandow with Cody Rhodes, Cesaro with Kassius Ohno in an alternate universe).  Gabriel takes a beating for a while but Kidd finally gets the hot tag and cleans house!  Chaos breaks loose and Kidd tags Gabriel before taking out Cesaro with a plancha.  Gabriel STOs Sandow, tags Kidd, then nails the springboard moonsault before Kidd follows with the springboard elbowdrop for the victory!

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay, Todd Keneley, & Taz.
-Brother Runt(aka Spike Dudley) and Tommy Dreamer pay a visit for Bully Ray's wedding to Brooke Hogan.  Is that the shortest time lapse between WWE and TNA appearances?
-Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy & James Storm d. Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian when Hardy pinned Kazarian after the Twist Of Fate.  Daniels attacked Hardy from behind after the bell and dropped him on the title belt with the Angel's Wings.
-Kenny King d. Christian York with a rollup and handful of tights.
-Velvet Sky d. Gail Kim with the sitout Pedigree.  Teferee Taryn Terrell made a point to see Sky's foot under the bottom rope after Gail hit Eat-The-Feet, leading to an argument with Gail and giving Velvet the opening to make her comeback.
-Bobby Roode & Austin Aries protested the wedding taking up time on Impact...Tag Team Champions Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Shawn Hernandez did the honors of evicting them from the ring.
-The wedding was disrupted by the Aces & Eights thanks to best man Taz revealing himself as their newest member.
-Next week:  Hardy vs. Daniels for the Heavyweight Title.

Main Event + XPlosion

WWE Main Event

-Commentators:  Michael Cole, Mike Mizanin, & Brad Maddox.
-U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro vs. Randy Orton(non-title) ended in a no-contest when The Shield members(Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns) surrounded the ring.  Miz left the broadcast table to back up Orton, but the numbers caught up to them as Reigns speared Miz and The Shield trio laid out Orton with the triple-team powerbomb.  After that, an opportunistic Cesaro re-entered the ring to hit the Neutralizer on Miz.
-With Miz out, Maddox joined Cole at the broadcast table for the second match...
-Jimmy & Jey Uso d. The Prime Time Players(Titus O'Neil & Darren Young) when Jey pinned Young after the splash off the top rope.

TNA XPlosion

-Commentators:  Jeremy Borash & Todd Keneley.
-Tag Team Champions Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Shawn Hernandez d. Matt Morgan & Joey Ryan(non-title) when Chavo pinned Ryan after the frog splash.

Anarchy Wrestling TV #362

Commentators:  Tim E.D. & Bret Wolverton(to the chagrin of Chuck Porterfield).

A show-opening interview with Heavyweight Champion Brodie Ray Chase never happens as former champ Shaun Tempers attacks him from behind.  Tempers rams him into the ringpost and BELTs him, leaving Chase bloody...referees finally restore order but the damage has been done.

Billy Buck vs. Bo Newsom(w/ Miss Rachel), Match 3 Of 5 For The Vacant T.V. Title:  Newsom is up 2-0 in the series after a cheap rollup in match one and a Miss Rachel-assisted countout in match two.  Buck decides not to take any chances...the opening bell rings, BUCK WILD SUPERKICK just like that and Buck pins him to get on the scoreboard!

Worst Case Scenario(Eli Evans, Ethan Case, & C.J. Spence) vs. Adrian Hawkins & Hot Commodity(Tommy Penirelli & C.B. Suave):  WCS seem to be missing their third man, but we have a volunteer to replace him...

Todd Sexton & Worst Case Scenario(Eli Evans & Ethan Case) vs. Adrian Hawkins & Hot Commodity(Tommy Penirelli & C.B. Suave):  Sexton and Hawkins immediately resume their rivalry before things settle down into a standard tag match.  Todd gets a hot tag and cleans house despite not being dressed to wrestle...Evans & Case take care of Penirelli & Suave to make it one-on-one between Sexton and Hawkins.  Todd catches Hawkins in a guillotine lock but Suave breaks it up with a swandive headbutt from the turnbuckles...that's enough for Hawkins to get the three-count on Sexton.

The heel trio celebrates but Sexton wants a rematch at Seasons' Beatings, only with two different partners:  Salvatore Rinauro and Jimmy Rave!  Oh yeah, and it's losing-team-captain-leaves-town(either Sexton or Hawkins).  They play pre-recorded comments from Rinauro and Rave...Sal is as good-humored as ever.  Rave thinks anyone who chooses the name "Suave" deserves a beating just for that.  As for "Pizzarelli", Jimmy says he's wrestling for free if they don't win in thirty minutes or less.

Brodie Ray Chase vs. Bobby Moore for the Heavyweight Title:  Tempers joins the broadcast team for the main event...no ulterior motive, of course.  Brodie's head is bandaged and Moore wastes no time in shifting to attack mode.  Moore dominates the champion by focusing on the head wound, but Chase finally makes the underdog comeback.  Moore cuts him off with a turnbuckle Flatliner and follows up with the Sick Kick...for two.  Moore brings out the elbowpad of death, but Brodie ducks the forearm smash and rolls him up for the flash pin out of nowhere!

The champ decides to speak his mind...title rematch at Seasons' Beatings and it'll be a first-blood match.

MMWA Special Comment

Packed house at South Broadway, though it's apparently the norm for their January shows...

T.V. Champion Dave Vaughn was announced as being out with the flu...he'd been absent from the past few shows due to Missouri licensing issues.

Sorry to say, this wasn't the best show in the world...right off the bat, they overcomplicated things with regards to the Heavyweight Title match with the "gauntlet" mess. The show started with Battle Royal Champion Chase King facing Andrew Wilder; the winner of that match would challenge Gary Jackson for the big belt and then the winner of THAT match would defend against Dave Osborne. They had announced Jackson-Osborne ahead of time, so why not just do that and King-Wilder? The show ran pretty long as it was...

On the note of show length, it seemed like EVERYONE got promo time...hey, there's no other way to get mic experience, I suppose.

King-Wilder was a solid opener...Chase's axe kick finisher looked good and I liked the double-team finisher he and Matt King used. They mentioned something about the Tag Team Title situation regarding next month's show...Chase was co-champ with LaMarcus Clinton but the belts seem to be vacant now.

A bit surprised to see Mephisto back at MMWA, but his main issue was with Keith Smith and Keith's no longer associated with them. Moondog is OVAH and I accept that his matches are "schtick" for the most part.

Was always a big fan of A.J. Williams...he messed up his knee a few years ago and he'd been doing commentary for the MMWA TV show since then. Really cool to see him back and he looked good considering his long layoff...quite a test to do a twenty-minute draw! If he keeps his head in the game, he'll be a great asset to the local wrestling scene...Espinosa-Williams was definitely the highlight of this show.

From "cool, a non-finish means they'll wrestle again"...to Stevie K vs. Big Texan. This was one example among others on this show where a match got more time than necessary to accomplish the same result...longer matches aren't ALWAYS a good thing.

As previously mentioned, Matt King has a good look but is still green...his match with Brian James was another one that could have gone better with less time. Face vs. face is tough for even experienced wrestlers.

The ring malfunctions are really getting old...how many will it take before they finally fix things? Will someone need to get badly hurt before they get the message? I could tell right away that the top rope on the broadcast-table side of the ring was really loose...it was a turnbuckle on that side that popped loose on an Irish-whip spot. Gary vs. Chase never really got back on track after that.

The main event was fine but seemed to be shorter than some of the other matchs on the show...shouldn't it be the other way around? It did have the non-finish to continue the three-way feud with Espinosa...this is the most they've done with the Heavyweight Title situation in a LONG time.

Anywho, that was the start of my indy wrestling year...the rest of the month has SICW(Ricky Cruz vs. Ken Kasa for the Classic Title) and MECW(Eric Allen vs. Davey Richards). Good times.

NXT + Impact

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips, S. William Regal, & Jim Ross.  Ring announcers:  Summer Rae & Byron Saxton.

Yoshi Tatsu & Percy Watson vs. The Wyatt Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan)(w/ Bray Wyatt):  I don't see this being too competitive...Wyatt observes from his rocking chair on the entrance stage.  Yoshi nearly takes out Harper with a Shining Wizard but chaos breaks loose and Percy tosses Rowan out.  IT'S THE BIG FOOT takes out Watson but Yoshi stuns Harper with the big roundhouse kick.  Third floor...but the spinning heel kick off the top misses.  Harper avalanches Yoshi and finishes with a huge discus lariat.

Paige (Knight) vs. Emma (Tayla):  This match has some international flavor as it's England versus Australia.  Emma shows off some dance moves on the way to the ring but Paige is OVAH.  Emma targets the knee with some innovative offense(FOOT DDT~!), then dragon-screw legwhips her into a half-crab before Paige kicks her away.  Paige wins a good match out of nowhere with the Paige Turner(Lightning Spiral)...she's not QUITE "undefeated" on NXT but she has been on a winning streak.

Bo Dallas & Michael McGillicutty vs. Primo & Epico Colon:  Last week McGillicutty made a surprise run-in to prevent the Colon cousins from double-teaming Dallas, setting up this bout.  Regal notes that everyone in this match is from a wrestling family.  The fans seem to want Rosa Mendes but she's not in the house for this one.  MM works a headlock against both opponents in the early minutes...is that a "HEADLOCK" chant?  Then the Colons take control against Bo and the fans chant "We Want Headlocks"...har har.  A double-team finally backfires and McGillicutty gets the hot tag...the house is on fire!  Epico nails Dallas and MM clotheslines Epico out, but the distraction is enough for Primo to hit the backcracker on McGillicutty for the win.

Seth Rollins vs. Big E Langston, no-DQ match for the NXT Title:  General Manager/Commissioner Dusty Rhodes added the stipulation to prevent The Shield from saving the title like they did last week...CONTINUITY~!  Byron does the ring announcing and J.R. joins Regal at the broadcast table.  Seth has no music as a heel in NXT.  CHALK UP~!  Langston has the obvious power edge but Rollins does his best to take out the leg.  Big E easily blocks an early Asai DDT attempt and gorilla-presses Seth out of the ring, but Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns jump Langston on the arena floor(no-DQ!).  Big E gets thrown into the steel steps...that's a momentum-shifter and Rollins does his best to keep Langston down.  A headscissors goes awry as Big E picks up Rollins on his shoulders for an electric-chair drop...the tide would appear to have turned.  Vader Smash takes out Rollins and Big E bashes Dean and Roman off the apron, but the troops hit the ring to break up a potential Big Ending.  The locker room empties to fight off Ambrose and Reigns, finally turning it back into a one-on-one situation.  Seth desperately goes for the Asai DDT and hits it...for 2 1/2!  He goes for the finisher again, but Langston blocks it and transitions straight into the Big Ending!  That'll do it...we have a NEWWWWW NXT Champion!  The roster hits the ring to celebrate with the new champ, then the ref staps the belt around his waist as we close the show...

TNA Impact

-Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy & James Storm d. Bobby Roode & Austin Aries by DQ; Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian attacked Storm outside the ring while Aries BELTed Hardy to break up a Twist Of Fate on Roode.
-Kurt Angle vs. Ken Anderson never started as Mike Knox attacked Angle from behind with a hammer.  Samoa Joe, Garett Bischoff, & Wes Brisco hit the ring to run him off, but the damage had been done.  Sting arrived to call out the Aces & Eights...
-Sting d. Mike Knox with the Scorpion Death Drop.  T.V. Champion Brother Devon and the Aces & Eights took Brooke Hogan hostage but Bully Ray defied Hulk Hogan's suspension to make the save.
