-Kane(w/ Daniel Bryan) d. Tag Team Champion Seth Rollins(w/ Roman Reigns); Kane fought off Reigns but took an enzuigiri from Rollins.  While the ref was occupied with Reigns, Bryan shoved Rollins off the top rope, allowing Kane to hit the chokeslam for the win.

NXT + Impact

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips & Brad Maddox.  Ring announcer:  Byron Saxton.

Tag Team Champions The Wyatt Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) vs. Travis Tyler & Sawyer Fulton, non-title:  Bray Wyatt is absent as he's preparing for the battle royal...don't think it'll matter as I don't like the newbies' chances.  Tyler helpfully has "TT" on his tights...we've had a lot of debuts lately, so I need all the help I can get to keep them straight.  Tyler gets destroyed, then Fulton tags in only to run into IT'S THE BIG FOOT from Harper.  Avalanche and discus lariat mercifully end it.  Wonder why Wyatt's in the battle royal and his cohorts aren't...hmm.

Executive Vice-President Stephanie McMahon announces the start of a tournament to crown the first NXT Women's Champion...that starts next week!

Emma Tayla vs. Audrey Marie:  If Fandango started a dance craze, Emma's keeping it going on this show.  She even calls for her music after the opening bell so she can dance some more...but Audrey stops that in a hurry.  Audrey goes after the arm as Brad bemoans how that'll affect her dancing ability...gutwrench suplex gets an early two-count but Emma gets a backslide for her own near-fall.  Emma maneuvers into a modified Tarantula, then hits a low cross-body with Audrey slumped in the corner.  She catapults Audrey onto her face in the middle of the ring, then transitions straight into the Emmalock(inverted STF) for the tapout!  Well, that was decisive...fare thee well, Audrey.

Renee Young interviews Garrett Dylan & Scott Dawson(now channeling their inner rednecks)...but French manager Sylvester Lefort does the talking for them.  That's an...odd combination.

Jake Carter & Brandon Traven vs. Garrett Dylan & Scott Dawson(w/ Sylvester Lefort):  It's been a while since I've seen Dylan...Dawson debuted a few months ago in a losing effort against Adrian Neville, then dropped back off the map.  Carter is quickly victimized...don't bet against the team that got promo time(and don't bet on the team that didn't get an entrance, though they DID get theme music).  Traven finally gets the tag and goes to work, but Dylan avoids a wild swing and Dawson stops Traven with a big clothesline.  Dawson hits a spinebuster, then Dylan hits a double-axhandle drop of sorts off the second rope...that'll do it as Dylan gets the 1-2-3.  Fare thee well, Traven.

NXT Champion Big E Langston vs. Derrick Bateman, non-title:  Bateman got a haircut...and Dean Ambrose kinda-sorta borrowed his finisher so things don't look good for him.  CHALK UP~!  Bateman goes on offense with a corner dropkick and some chops, but Big E literally dumps him to the mat after that.  Vader Smash, straps down, Big Ending, and three.  That would seem to be two counts low for Langston's liking...another Big Ending is delivered and he makes his own five-count.  Fare thee well, Bateman...liked ya on Seasons 4 & 5.

18-Man Battle Royal:  The winner gets the next shot at the NXT Title...Big E joins the broadcast team for this one.  People who get televised entrances:  Corey Graves, Bray Wyatt, Kassius Ohno, Adrian Neville, Bo Dallas, and Mason Ryan.  That's most of the people who have a shot at winning this thing...and here we go!

Ohno and Wyatt pair off quickly....Ryan tosses Kazma Sakamoto fairly quickly and sends Briley Pierce right out to join him(fare thee well, both of you).  Curt Hawkins is the next to go(again via Ryan).  You'd think the long-absent Alexander Rusev would be able to match power with Ryan...but you'd be wrong as Ryan sends him floorward.  Finally everyone figures out that they need to deal with Ryan NOW...but he still deposits Baron Corbin, Knuckles Madsen, Mojo Rawley, Yoshi Tatsu, AND Dante Dash out of the ring!  Aiden English tries an attack from behind...nope, goodbye.  Sami Zayn goes after him and gets military-pressed and tossed onto the humanity at ringside.  Just like that, we're down to seven...Ryan tries to powerbomb Neville, but gets rana-ed out of the ring to end his run of dominance!  So we're down to Graves, Wyatt, Ohno, Neville, Dallas, and Conor O'Brian...

O'Brian and Wyatt square off and Wyatt gets BOOTed through the ropes, but that's obviously not an elimination.  Meanwhile, Maddox is gloriously sucking up to Langston at the broadcast table...bwahahaha.  Conor lays waste to everyone but Graves & Ohno finally slow him down a bit...and they double-team him out of the ring!  However, Wyatt takes the opportunity to alley-oop Graves and Ohno out of the ring from behind!  We're down to the final three...Wyatt avalanches Dallas and plants him with the Sister Abigail, but Neville stuns him with an enzuigiri and tosses him out!

We're down to the recent tag partners Dallas and Neville...a low-bridge move sends Bo to the apron, but he hangs on before touching the floor.  Bo drags Adrian over the ropes and HE'S left hanging by a thread...Neville manages to fight back to the apron with only ONE foot touching the floor.  The two slug it out as the fans are clearly behind Neville...after some more close calls, Neville sends Dallas to the mat with a roundhouse kick from the apron.  Corkscrew shooting star press...hits nothing but knees!  That's finally enough for Bo to toss Neville out of the ring for the win!

Next week:  Wyatt Family vs. Kassius Ohno & Corey Graves, plus the NXT Women's Title tournament begins.

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay, Todd Keneley, & Taz.
-Sting & Joseph Park d. Team 3-D(Heavyweight Champion Bully Ray & T.V. Champion Brother Devon).  Abyss' music distracted Team 3-D, leading to Sting getting the pin on Devon after the Scorpion Death Drop.
-Samoa Joe(w/ Brutus Magnus) vs. Garett Bischoff(w/ Doc Gallows & Wes Brisco) ended in a no-contest when the Aces & Eights trio beat down Magnus outside the ring and Joe took them all out with a suicide dive.  Joe said the two of them would team up with the returning Jeff Hardy against the three at Slammiversary.
-Tag Team Champions Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Shawn Hernandez, James Storm, & Phil Gunner d. Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, & Bad Influence(Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) when Gunner made Aries submit to the torture rack.
-Chris Sabin & Taryn Terrell d. X-Division Champion Kenny King & Gail Kim when Sabin pinned King with the crossed-leg Ki-Krusher.  Suicide saved Sabin from a post-match attack and hit King with his double-chickenwing lungblower.
-A.J. Styles d. Ken Anderson by DQ when Kurt Angle attacked A.J.  The Aces & Eights hit the ring which brought out Joe, Magnus, Park, and Sting...Sting and Ray got into a confrontation which led to Devon breaking up a Scorpion Deathlock.  Ray and Devon hit the 3-D on Sting to finish the show.
-Slammiversary is this Sunday!  (Remind me to double-check my posted show dates more often... :P)

TNA XPlosion

-Commentators:  Jeremy Borash & Todd Keneley.
-Tag Team Champions Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Shawn Hernandez d. Doc Gallows & Mike Knux(w/ Taz) by DQ(non-title); Chavo hit Doc with the frog splash but Knux broke up the pin and laid out both champions with one of the title belts(causing the disqualification).

WWE Raw

-Commentators:  Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, & John Bradshaw Layfield.

-Dean Ambrose d. Kofi Kingston with the headlock driver to retain the U.S. Title.  Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins joined Ambrose in the ring afterwards, but Kane & Daniel Bryan entered before a beatdown could take place...
-Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins d. Hell No(Kane & Daniel Bryan) to retain the Tag Team Titles; Reigns speared Bryan as he jumped off the apron and Rollins took out Kane with the springboard knee trembler for the win.
-Johnny Fandango(w/ Summer Rae) d. Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett(non-title); Mike Mizanin was the special guest referee.  Wade threw down Miz at one point so Miz dropped him with the Skull-Crushing Finale, leading to Fandango getting the win.  Miz then kicked Fandango during his post-match dance.
-The Great Khali & Tons Of Funk(Brodus Clay & Lord Tensai)(w/ Funkadactyls, Natalya Neidhart, & Hornswoggle) d. The 3-Man Band(Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre, & Jinder Mahal) when Brodus pinned Slater after the big splash.

-They're now retroactively saying that Curtis Axel did "win" last week due to match stoppage when Triple H could no longer continue.  That's for people who care about the details like...um...me.
-Curtis Axel(w/ Paul Heyman) d. WWE Champion John Cena(non-title) by countout.  The ambulance arrived in the arena and Cena left the ring to look for Ryback(causing the finish).  Ryback wasn't in the ambulance and attacked Cena from behind...he teased another spear through the entrance set but Cena avoided it.  Cena nearly hit an F-U on the stage but Ryback got out of that and got away.

Anarchy Wrestling TV #380

Commentators:  Tim E.D. & Bret Wolverton.

It's part two of Hardcore Hell highlights...

Todd Sexton vs. Bo Newsom & Brent Wiley(w/ Miss Rachel), handicap match:  Senior official Wiley has been biased against Elite enemies in general and brother Todd in particular...now we have this match.  Todd goes right after Bo, then chases Brent around the ring until Brent uses Rachel as a shield.  Wiley has NO interest in entering the match, thank you very much...but he does interject himself into the Sexton/Newsom exchange.  Wiley finally does tag into the match, stomps Todd once, then removes his shirt and flexes...before tagging right back out.

Wiley gets bolder as his brother takes more abuse...but when Todd shrugs off a chop, Brent is quick to evacuate the premises.  Sexton takes Newsom down into the Crippler Crossface, forcing Wiley to break up the hold and resulting in another chase.  This one ends in a spinebuster by Newsom...Wiley gets the tag and hooks his brother in the Sharpshooter, but Todd easily powers out of the hold so Brent tags out.  Todd rallies against Newsom, then a double-team backfires as Newsom knocks Wiley off the apron.  Todd hits the piledriver(!)...then drags Bo to his corner and plays possum on the mat.  Wiley(not having seen the last few seconds of the action) tags himself into the match and goes for the cover...and Todd immediately kicks out, leaving Brent with the realization that he's all alone with his loving brother.  Wiley tries to take a walk...but all of the other refs order him back into the ring!

Todd finally takes his brother to school...even pulling him up from a pin attempt so he can hook the Sharpshooter!  Unfortunately, Miss Rachel argues with the ref as the suddenly-revived Newsom bashes Todd with her clipboard...Bo puts Wiley on top and the ref turns around to count...two!  The heels tease a spike piledriver but Todd throws Newsom into Wiley on the turnbuckles...then tosses Newsom to the floor before superplexing his brother!  Time for the Sharpshooter...welcome to Tapout City!

The Movement(Najasism & The Vandal) vs. The Washington Bullets(Jon & Trey Williams) for the Tag Team Titles:  This breaks down into a brawl right away...leading to a crazy spot on the floor where Vandal gets Jon on his shoulders and Najasism slingshots into an inside-out Doomsday Device!  Things settle into standard tag rules as the champs maintain control with their teamwork, but the Bullets finally get Vandal in their corner to beat him down.

Najasism finally gets the hot tag and the house is on fire!  The numbers catch up to Najasism but Vandal gets a blind tag and plants Jon with a Fameasser.  It's down to Vandal and Trey...Najasism cuts off Jon, but Jon throws Najasism into Vandal to break up a dragon sleeper on Trey.  A double Brogue Kick by the Bullets allows Trey to cover Vandal...for two.  Another double-team attempt backfires as Jon kicks Trey by mistake...Jon recovers to hit Vandal with a fisherman buster, but Najasism hits Jon with a 450 Splash while he's on the mat!  Vandal covers...Trey saves!  Trey bashes Najasism to the floor, then argues with the ref long enough for Jon to sneak in a low blow!  Jon hits Eat-The-Feet(Najasism's finisher) and Trey hits a Zigzag(Vandal's finisher)...but Jon only gets two!  The Bullets look to finish but another double-team misfires...Najasism springboard-dropkicks Trey, then hits Eat-The-Feet on Jon!  Vandal follows up with the Zigzag on Jon to just barely get the win to retain the Tag Team Titles!

Team Anarchy(Brodie Ray Chase, Azrael, Slim J, Iceberg, & ?) vs. Team Elite(Heavyweight Champion Shaun Tempers, Jagged Edge, Geter, & The Urban Assault Squad)(w/ Jeff G. Bailey & Jerry Palmer), Wargames:  We pick things up with the UAS double-teaming Slim J.  Azrael enters next for some tandem ridiculousness with Slim J, then Tempers takes a beating.  Don't have the exact entry order from here...think it's Brodie and then Jagged Edge.  Jagged Edge bounces Slim off the mat with a piledriver at one point.  Jeremy Vain is the surprise member of Team Anarchy and he slams the cage door on a few heads before entering the ring in grand fashion!  Geter is the last entry for the Elite as the heels dominate for a while, but Iceberg's in last for Anarchy.  Tempers takes a beating from everyone...Brodie gives him a taste of his own Temptation spray in the eyes, then Slim J hits his flying inverted DDT off the top of the cage!  Slim J hooks the Roach Clip(inverted STF) and a bloody Tempers finally taps out!

Aftermath:  Iceberg seems ready to get Palmer in the cage, but he mentions their past history and says he can't fight him.  He leaves the cage...but he has someone else in mind for Jerry's opponent:  MIKAEL JUDAS!

Mikael Judas vs. Jerry Palmer, five-minute cage match challenge:  The members of Team Anarchy pull up chairs to watch...ha ha.  Judas orders Palmer to beg for mercy...and Jerry offers a handshake.  Judas accepts but won't release the hand, then throws him into the cage!  Judas beats him down with a trashcan lid, throws him into the cage a few more times, then offers him his axhandle only to boot him in the face instead.  Judas puts a foot on Palmer's face for the academic pin with seconds to spare...but after the bell, Judas bashes Palmer with his own axhandle for fun.

With the good guys gone, Bailey lays the badmouth on his "ally"...then kicks the bloody former owner in the face.  Jeff G. orders Geter to continue the abuse and he hits two big splashes...then teases a splash off the second rope before the Team Anarchy members finally re-enter to put a stop to it.  We get a big Judas-Geter staredown at the cage door before the heels finally take their leave...

Location:  Grove Deli
Emcee:  Lyle Purdy
After:  Ron Finger
Before:  None(on last)

The Champion Melt sandwich = still tremendous.  It was a good time at the Deli on a Saturday night with a surprisingly good-sized audience for the venue.  Had a few new things to try out and some of them went okay.  Yes, I did the Memorial Day joke, thanks for asking.  Sounds like there won't be a show at Nick's Pub tomorrow night so I've got nothing to do for the next few days...I'm open to suggestions.

The Big Show by countout; the fight spilled out of the ring and Jericho ran Show into the ringpost, then hit the Codebreaker before beating the ten-count.  Show tried to bring in a chair after the match but Jericho hit a baseball slide into the chair, then bashed him twice with the chair before Show retreated.
-Curtis Axel(w/ Paul Heyman) d. Sin Cara after the Headturner neckbreaker.

NXT + Impact

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tony Dawson & S. William Regal.  Ring announcer:  Kendall Skye.

Sami Zayn vs. Curt Hawkins:  Curt lives!  This is Zayn's NXT debut and I feel like shouting "OLE~!" for some reason.  Hawkins takes him lightly...don't think that'll last.  Zayn hits a good opening flurry of offense but Hawkins slows him down with a low-altitude version of the Pele Kick.  Zayn rallies with a back suplex and dropkick but runs into the Norman Smiley swinging bodyslam...for two.  Zayn fights out of a powerbomb attempt, hangs onto the arm, then walks up the ropes and leaps off into a flying tornado DDT!  That'll do it...nothing generic about that finish!  "We're gonna get to know each other pretty well!"

Corey Graves vignette...his tattoos are the story of his life and a suit of armor.  He's not here to make a mark...he's here to leave a scar.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Antonio Cesaro:  No more yodeling...he's donned the beret and shades in recent weeks.  This could be good...but it doesn't last long as Cesaro stops Yoshi's assault with the pop-up European uppercut.  Neutralizer, that's the ballgame.  Regal notes that Cesaro beat him in Switzerland on the European tour...HOUSE SHOWS COUNT~!  Cesaro wants better competition and throws out an open challenge to anyone on any show...sorry, Saturday Morning Slam seems to be on hiatus for the moment.  He gets an answer...from Sami Zayn!  Zayn is multilingual in his own right...sounds like an impromptu match!

Sami Zayn vs. Antonio Cesaro:  YAY WRESTLING~!  FLIPPIES~!  Cesaro takes him down with a yank of the tights, but Zayn flips off the ropes into an armdrag and Antonio bails to the floor to regroup.  Cesaro slows him down with a Stungun and a series of Irish whips into the turnbuckles.  He stops a sunset flip with a double-stomp...for two.  HUGE short-arm clothesline...gets two.  Zayn gets off a dropkick, then an O'Connor Roll...for two.  Third floor...but he gets caught in mid-air for a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker!  Cover...gets two.  Zayn pulls himself up in the corner and Antonio rushes in with a EUROUPPERCUTBITCH~!...for 2 1/2!  Cesaro beats him down but takes the time to gloat about his dominance...and Zayn floats out of a deadlift suplex attempt to get a rollup for the flash pin!  Sami Zayn wins twice on his debut night, but he pays for his success as Cesaro attacks from behind!  Cesaro drops him with the Neutralizer...gosh darn it, they're gonna have to wrestle each other again to settle this.  Gosh darn it.

Renee Young interviews Audrey Marie...but Emma Tayla feels like she's ready for some promo time so she steps in.  Emma has trouble getting Audrey's name right...in response, Audrey disses the dancing and tells her to leave or she'll TAKE HER OUT(not to eat, as Emma seems to think).  Emma dances off the interview set...poking Audrey in the head on the way.  Ha ha.

Mason Ryan vs. Enzo Amore:  Amore's another newbie...nice leopard-print jacket.  He speaks his mind but it looks like his debut night will be a bit rougher than Sami Zayn.  Regal wonders if Amore is one of Diamond Dallas Page's lovechildren...ha ha.  The short-arm clothesline is a popular move on this show as Ryan mows down Amore with a major one.  Snake Eyes, LARIATOOOOO, and torture-rack neckbreaker mercifully end Amore's night.

Next week:  Major Announcement(tm) by Stephanie McMahon, plus a battle royal for the next shot at NXT Champion Big E Langston.

Corey Graves vs. Bray Wyatt(w/ Tag Team Champions Luke Harper & Erick Rowan):  So who's the face in THIS one?  Wyatt is still wearing his "face of fear" mask...we're told it's due to a broken nose suffered in his recent bout with Chris Jericho.  The opening exchange causes Wyatt to momentarily lose his mask but he replaces it with no incident.  Graves catches him in a hanging headscissors over the ropes but Bray mows him down with the CROSS-BODYBLOCK OF DEATH.  Graves is able to low-bridge Wyatt out of the ring, but the baseball slide misses its mark and Wyatt rams him backwards into the steel steps.  Back in the ring, the avalanche hits but Graves rolls him up out of nowhere...for two.  Bray loses the mask again and Graves takes what is offered, striking away at the face with fists and knees.  He takes out the leg, fights off the Family, and hooks his Fuller Leglock(Lucky 13?) only for Harper to drop an elbow while the ref's tied up with Rowan.  Wyatt ends it with the Sister Abigail...the Family beatdown ensues but Kassius Ohno makes the save!  He makes a beeline for Wyatt but the numbers are too much for him...Harper and Rowan beat him down, then hold him for Wyatt to slap around.  Ohno gets dropped with the Sister Abigail as well...that's it for this week.

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay, Todd Keneley, & Taz.
-Suicide won a triple threat match with Petey Williams and Joey Ryan when he pinned Ryan after a double-chickenwing dropped into a modified lungblower.
-Bound For Glory Series Qualifying Tournament:  Sam Shaw d. Alex Silva by forfeit; The Aces & Eights claimed to have attacked Silva backstage.  Brutus Magnus saved Shaw from a beatdown, leading to an impromptu match...
-Brutus Magnus d. Wes Brisco(w/ Doc Gallows & Garett Bischoff) by DQ when Doc & Garett interfered; Samoa Joe made the save.
-Ken Anderson d. Kurt Angle; Angle was distracted by the arrival of A.J. Styles at ringside, allowing Anderson to get in a low blow before scoring the cheap rollup pin.
-Mickie James d. Velvet Sky after a knee clip and low-altitude DDT to win the Women's Title (referee O.D.B.).
-A.J. Styles put on the Aces & Eights vest and even took out Kurt Angle's knee with the hammer, but he followed that up by bashing several of the lesser gang members with the hammer before bailing out of the ring.  He's not aligned with anyone...for the moment.

SICW Special Comment

The busy wrestling weekend continued with SICW in East Carondelet. Trevor Murdoch was originally scheduled but "stepped aside" so Cowboy Bob Orton could get his hands on Ron Powers. Last Sunday's SICW Wrestling Explosion show advertised the original main event of Murdoch/Bull Schmitt vs. Powers/Flash Flanagan so I assumed Orton would simply take Murdoch's place in that one. It was changed to a singles bout...and that became an impromptu tag match with Butch Reed entering the ring as Orton's partner. As always: Card subject to change.

Classic Champion Ricky Cruz has been traveling a lot more lately and was wrestling in Puerto Rico this past weekend. His busier schedule led to speculation that his title reign may be coming to an end...especially since he recently hit the one-year mark as champion. Of course, this led to more fodder for Travis Cook to proclaim Ken Kasa(holder of the most prestigious beer pitcher in Midwest wrestling) as the true champ. Memo to self: Make a "Damn, You're Agile!" sign. Cruz's next scheduled title defense is against Powers, so we'll see how things go from there...

The undercard was solid as usual. Brandon Gallagher's in an odd spot on the proverbial ladder as he's scored a few upset wins lately, but Saturday was not one of those nights as he lost to Bobby D. Alexandre Rudolph tends to steamroll lower-card competitors but Chaz Wesson obviously doesn't fit into that particular tier. Despite the losses, "The American Viking" had good outings at both shows this past weekend.

Larry Matysik's sitdown interview with Butch Reed was fairly low-key and not always easy to hear...tough spot as Larry couldn't exactly get in the ring to do the interview.

The Big Texan has fallen out of favor with most of the resident heels around SICW...his team with Ron Powers exploded in grand fashion in Fairmont City, he indirectly cost Vaughn the tag match at Argosy, and he got pinned this week thanks to a well-timed schoolboy trip by Gary Jackson. Perhaps the new ring attire is a sign of his ongoing shift in allegiances...

Heath Hatton's developed a good following in SICW and he's been successful more often than not. He and Ace Hawkins got an indirect shoutout from Ryback on Twitter recently...the big man commented on defeating "two monstrous men" at last year's Extreme Rules pay-per-view. Bwahahaha.

Rookie Jake Parnell's already gone through a few name changes in his young career...he was "Gentleman Brad Fox" at the last Fairmont City show and he went by "Gentleman Jake Parnell" in East Carondelet. Maybe he'll embellish on the gimmick in due time...top hat and monocle, perhaps? :-D

Shorty Biggs and Max Archer weren't exactly on the same page in their handicap match against Texas last month, so they settled their issues at this show. The short-arm clothesline is a pretty cool move that doesn't get enough use these days...it was always identified with Jake "The Snake" Roberts as the setup for the DDT. Have seen Rudolph finish with it recently.

My friend Drew Abbenhaus commented on the fact that the guys in the main event are a bit(?) older but are still in far better shape than ourselves...heh. Reed competed in street clothes(he wasn't initially scheduled to wrestle) but Orton had his regular tights. Flash Flanagan nearly won the title last week but was completely left off the card this week due to the last-minute lineup change...his interruption of the show led to the impromptu tag match when Reed made the save. Powers scored a big win over Orton, giving him momentum heading into his title shot at Ricky Cruz next month...

CSCW had a show in Swansea last Saturday...I like some of the talent they're using and am planning on checking out their next show in June. The next two weekends are wrestling-free for me...for the more adventurous sorts, Pro Wrestling Collision has a show on Saturday in Carbondale. Haven't heard any updates on MECW, so June looks like this:

Saturday 6/8: MMWA in St. Louis
Friday 6/14: DPW in Glen Carbon
Saturday 6/15: SICW in East Carondelet
Saturday 6/22: CSCW in Swansea
Friday 6/28: SLA in Alton IL

DPW/FIST Combat Special Comment + This Week In Wrestling

Contrary to popular belief, I don't often venture into Sauget(Centreville's closer, har har).  I've been to Pop's a few times in the past...I went for the two Fozzy shows with Chris Jericho and also the Underground Wrestling show a few years ago.  I had an interview at the Penthouse Club once but oddly didn't get the doorman job...go figure.

The story behind this show:  Sabu was going to be in town for PPV parties as Extreme Rules was in St. Louis on Sunday.  Thus, Sabu was looking around for wrestling shows to work but nothing was available.  As a result, Mike Gordon(who previously ran shows under the banner of FIST Combat) put together a show at the last minute with cooperation from Dynamo Pro Wrestling.  The format was a tournament of sorts with Sabu participating...Tracey Smothers was a last-minute addition as he was announced on the day of the show.

Ben Simon ring-announces for just about everybody these days...he looked woefully out of place in his suit and tie while everyone else was in casual attire.

I don't know anything about the backgrounds of the guys in the opener...a quick search tells me that "Darkchild" Eric O'Shea's pro debut was in 1998 and he competes for UPW in Michigan(as does Sabu).  Presumably he's not related to Douglas(RCW/UWA) or Jeff(3XW/PWC).  The UPW page doesn't have anything on The Executioner...he's billed as a seven-footer and is presumably not related to Terry Gordy(or Jesse Dalton for that matter).  Enough obscure references...the match wasn't very good.  Maybe it was inexperience on the part of the masked man...he does have size on his side and could grow into a better performer down the line.  I note that Sabu also made an appearance at CSCW on Saturday and that show had Executioner-O'Shea as well; I'm guessing they traveled together from Michigan.

The Dynamo four-corner match felt out of place in this environment as a more standard-issue bout.  I doubt the onlookers cared about any backstory, but:  Walsh won the Heavyweight Title from Karrington, Kevin X is a former GCW Champ and Gallagher is managed by Tiffany LaFane who used to be Karrington's valet.  It was mostly a chaotic brawl with all four men in the ring at once...good action as expected from these guys.  K.C. fought with Kevin X as Walsh hit his finisher(that really needs a proper name) on Gallagher for the win...X hit the Pavement Drop on Karrington afterwards to end the Demigod's terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad day.  At any rate, Tiffany was at her antagonistic best in making fun of the ringside fans...heh.

The random draw for the tournament took place as Mikey G called for my hat specifically...heh.  One of the Facebook event pages spoiled the fact that we'd see Sabu vs. Captain Perverto(formerly Rat Boy)...oops.  That one was total destruction on Sabu's part...notable that a lot of fans still know Perverto by his old name as I heard a lot of people cheering for Rat Boy.

Tracey Smothers(decked out in Confederate regalia) came out to New Jack's Natural Born Killaz theme...odd choice there.  :)  This was a total contrast to the previous match as he and Ken Kasa went really old-school...and it worked, to their credit.  Smothers was portrayed as a fan of the Insane Clown Posse and the Juggalos(he's worked JCW shows in the past) and was accompanied by Poodoo The Cow & Dash Rando...more on that later.  As you might expect, Travis Cook wasted no time in endearing himself to the Sauget faithful...err...

The next bout was a total power battle...this show definitely had a wide variety of talent.  To put the match in perspective:  Alexandre Rudolph was an "LWA Superfan" when the Lethal Wrestling Alliance was in its formative years and Adam Raw was one of the founding members of that group.  Since that time, Rudolph has made quite a name for himself in the ring...Raw just recently returned to regular competition.  Raw showed some impressive agility, including a somersault dive off the apron onto Rudolph that just barely cleared the guardrail.  Raw's win was a slight surprise but the top-rope fallaway slam looked killer.

Similar to the four-corner bout earlier in the night, McNeil-Vaughn was a more traditional matchup.  I thought Vaughn would win to put two faces and two heels in the finale, but Vaughn accidentally hit his manager and Billy got the flash pin to advance.

During intermission, Without MF'N Order(Perverto's band) performed along with the ICP-inspired Local Kingz.  After their set, the Kingz griped about not being on the wrestling portion of the show and said they might just make their own spot.  I can only assume they took issue with Poodoo & Rando(also ICP fans, going by their association with Smothers) being on the card while they were excluded...IT'Z A SHOOT, BAY-BEE~!

Speaking of people out of their element, WLW wrestlers Jack Gamble & Jon Webb answered the open challenge of the Bumrush Brothers.  It turned out to be a non-title bout, sparking a hilarious response after the match from one or the other("THEN WHY ARE WE EVEN HERE?!").  Good matchup though the double-team finisher was a bit off.

Apparently another band was set to perform later in the night, so the main event was rushed so they could get the ring broken down in time...it even turned into a one-fall bout after being initially announced as an elimination match.  Who would have thought that we'd ever see Rat Boy work with Sabu?  Who would have thought we'd see Ian Storm work with Sabu AND Tracey Smothers?  I feared for the table as it wasn't in good shape and nearly fell apart on its own...but things worked out in the end.

Briefly met both Smothers and Sabu afterwards...Tracey was totally cool and just hung out at the bar for a bit after the show.  Smothers had his time in bigger feds:  He was WCW U.S. Tag Champ with Steve Armstrong(The Southern Boys/Young Pistols), worked in the WWF as Freddie Joy Floyd(and once beat Justin "Hawk" Bradshaw, aka JBL!), and was a Full Blooded Italian in the original ECW.  That last role prompted a great Joey Styles quote:  "He couldn't find Italy on a map...he couldn't find Italy on a map OF ITALY!"

Also, I got my picture taken with Sabu(thanks to Mikey G and Drew Abbenhaus for making that happen)...he was a big part of the original ECW at a time when I was starting to discover the bigger picture of the wrestling world.  I still remember the match he had with John Cena on WWE Saturday Night's Main Event when I thought he'd be a breakout star all over again...things didn't quite go that way but it's amazing to think that he was a part of WWE for a short time.

At any rate, that was part one of the weekend...

Reportedly episode #378 had technical issues...we'll get back to that one when it's posted.

-Commentators:  Tim E.D. & Bret Wolverton.  It's a Hardcore Hell highlight reel...
-B.J. Hancock & Joey Rhymer d. Bobby Moore & Adrian Hawkins.  Moore hit Hawkins with the loaded forearm by mistake, then B.J. & Rhymer took out Moore with a clothesline/clip combo.  Joey got the pin on Moore after a splash/kneedrop combo off opposite turnbuckles.
-Se7en(w/ Jeff G. Bailey) d. Seth Delay via chokeslam after Bailey delivered a cheapshot with his own set of brass knuckles.
-Billy Buck d. Jacoby Boykins to retain the T.V. Title; Boykins tried a move off the second rope but Buck hit him in mid-air with the Buck Wild superkick for the win.
-C.B. Suave won a triple threat match with Tommy Penirelli and Stryknyn(C) to win the Young Lions' Title.  The referee was knocked down and Stryknyn speared both opponents, but Anthony Henry ran into the ring and speared Stryknyn(ladies and gentlemen, we have a heel turn!).  In the end, it was Suave that was able to make the pin cover on Stryknyn to win the belt.

Comedy Part 487: We Were Told There Would Be Cupcakes

Location: Jilly's Steakhouse
Emcee: Bobby Jaycox
After: Bobby Jaycox
Before: Ben Johnson

Decided to check this show out...I asked about it beforehand and was offered a guest spot. The rest of the lineup featured Frankie Chubb, Kevin White, and Aaron Brooks so I was in good company. Feel like my set went reasonably well as I got to use some of my newer material. Aaron joked about how he thought this was the Jilly's restaurant with the cupcakes...as it turned out, the kitchen made him a big cupcake at the end of the night. Bwahahaha.

Weekend wrestling

Pro Wrestling Collision TV #8

Commentators:  Kevin Hunsperger & Jerome Cusson.

Brandon Espinosa & Ace Hawkins vs. The Kings Of The Armory(Sugar Dunkerton & Aaron Epic) for the Tag Team Titles:  It's a face/face battle for the belts...and it's confirmed that the winners will defend against Alex Castle & Reed Bentley at the next event.  YAY WRESTLING~!  Cue the feeling-out process...Hawkins and Epic tangle, then Espinosa and Dunkerton lock up as it threatens to turn into a dance-off.  Tempers flare as the four men exchange harsh words, then they all start brawling...IT'S ON~!  Just as things are getting good, Castle and Bentley run in for the Sportz Entertainment Finish...bah!  Now Matt Cage and Zakk Sawyer join the fun as the heels beat down both teams...No Limits Champion Joey O'Riley runs off the heels with a 2x4, but the damage has been done as Cage managed to re-injure Epic's knee.

Heavyweight Champion Heath Hatton addresses his recent battles...

Kyle Sykes vs. Frank Wyatt(w/ J. Wellington Beauregard):  Sykes and Chase King were allowed to pick each other's poison for the night...it appears King went the sadistic route with his choice of the super heavyweight Wyatt.  Sykes was able to beat the larger Matt King recently, to his credit...and he finally gets Chase in the ring at the next event.  Sykes tries to keep moving in the early going but Wyatt finally catches him and it's downhill from there.  Beauregard's managerial associate Gaylord Stevens comes out to ringside despite his lack of official allegiance to Wyatt...hmm.  Sykes goes aerial in his big rally, hitting the plancha off the top as Wyatt seeks refuge on the floor.  Back in the ring, moonsault press gets two...and Wyatt finally declares playtime over and pummels him.  Repeated turnbuckle powerbombs lead into a standard powerbomb and that whole sequence goes past the referee's five-count...that's a DQ.  King Entertainment(Chase & Matt) decide to add more damage to the already banged-up Kyle Sykes, dropping him with their K-2 double-team finisher(fireman's-carry by Matt spun into a Diamond Cutter by Chase).

Espinosa, Hawkins, O'Riley, & Dunkerton issue the challenge to Cage, Castle, Bentley, & Sawyer for an eight-man tag later tonight.

Heavyweight Champion Heath Hatton vs. Chase King(w/ Matt King), non-title:  This was Sykes' choice for King's opponent.  Hatton's set to defend in a triple threat match against Shane Rich and Bull Bronson at the next event.  Heath overpowers King at the start and King claims a hair pull...ha ha.  Hatton controls the action until Matt interjects himself, allowing Chase to attack from behind...then Chase ties up the ref while Matt runs Heath into the ringpost.  It essentially becomes a two-on-one situation as Matt gets in his shots whenever the official's attention is elsewhere.  Heath finally fights back with a spinebuster, but Matt blatantly enters the ring to clothesline Hatton while the ref is with Chase, allowing Chase to cover...for two.  Chase goes to the top rope but misses the splash...time for the real rally.  Russian legsweep gets two.  Third floor...Heath kicks Matt away before landing the missile dropkick.  Enter Bull Bronson...and he breaks up the H2KO(falling DDT) for the DQ...even the announcers are getting sick of all the disqualification finishes.  Shane Rich enters for the save but Hatton BELTs him by mistake(he was aiming for Bull) as Kyle Sykes runs out to brawl with King Entertainment...then Bronson plants Heath with a Demon Bomb and poses with the belt.  Heath and Shane recover but Rich is upset about being hit with the belt...

No Limits Champion Joey O'Riley, Tag Team Champions Brandon Espinosa & Ace Hawkins, & Sugar Dunkerton vs. Matt Cage, Alex Castle, Reed Bentley, & Zakk Sawyer:   It's a pier-six(eight?) brawl right out of the gate and the good guys clear the ring.  Add a few big dives for good measure...why not?  We finally settle down to two guys in the ring(Dunkerton and Cage)...it's noted that the faces took the time to color-coordinate for this one as they're all in green.  Castle and Bentley are apparently the "Gentlemen Broncos"...okay.  Sawyer takes a beating that includes Sugar literally dribbling his head like a basketball...well played.  Cage finally turns the tide against Espinosa by pulling him into the middle rope throat-first...but Espy gets out of trouble and makes the hot tag to Hawkins.  Ace cleans house and tags in O'Riley who keeps up the high-flying assault, but the heels work together to stop Joey in his tracks.  O'Riley finally fights out of a Cage superplex and hits a slingshot DDT...tag to Sawyer, tag to Dunkerton!  Sugar gets a figure-four leglock and Joey gets the same hold on Cage...then Espy gets Castle in the hold and Hawkins gets Bentley!  The ref isn't sure who to check but the heels fight out of the holds, then the finishers start flying...Espinosa frog-splashes Cage but Castle stops Espy with a low blow.  Castle and Bentley hit Espinosa with the spike fisherman buster and Bentley gets the three-count!  Reed grabs the three belts at ringside and hands the No Limits Title belt to Sawyer...leading to Cage grabbing it for himself.  Heh.

-Rhett Titus & Cliff Compton d. Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander when Titus pinned Coleman after an elevated DDT.

Midweek wrestling

TNA XPlosion

-Commentators:  Jeremy Borash & Todd Keneley.
-Tag Team Chavo Guerrero Jr. d. Jessie Godderz(w/ Tara Varon) after the frog splash.

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips & Brad Maddox.  Ring announcer:  Kendall Skye.

Natalya Neidhart vs. Summer Rae:  This will defintely be a tough test for Summer...Nattie takes her to the mat fairly quickly.  Summer uses some cheapshots and hairpulls to return fire but nearly gets caught in an early Sharpshooter attempt.  She ducks into the ropes and offers a handshake, but she yanks Natalya through the ropes by the tights and then stuns her with a kick to the head on re-entry.  Natalya rolls her up for a near-fall, but Summer surprises her with a modified DDT...not bad.  She targets the arm but Nattie powers out of the hold...and then Paige makes an appearance.  Nattie goes for the Sharpshooter but gets kicked off into Paige...and Summer gets the cheap rollup pin out of that!  Summer gets out of dodge in short order with Paige in hot pursuit...

Renee Young interviews newcomer Sami Zayn...he's making his in-ring debut next week against Curt Hawkins.  I've heard good things about his in-ring ability...don't think he'll be just another "generic" developmental guy.  (Oh, come on...I've been sitting on that stupid joke for weeks, OF COURSE I'm gonna use it.)

Danny Burch vs. Bray Wyatt(w/ Tag Team Champions Luke Harper & Erick Rowan):  Wyatt is wearing a mask that he claims is his "face of fear".  We're seeing a lot of new faces in NXT lately as this is Burch's inaugural appearance...but I don't see it going well for him.  Squash is in season...avalanche sets up the Sister Abigail and it's over as Wyatt pulls up the mask during the pin cover.

Backstage, Bo Dallas meets up with Adrian Neville...Oliver Grey's still on the shelf with his knee injury, we're told.  Neville's upset about the circumstances surrounding his Tag Team Title loss while Bo seems a bit cavalier about the whole situation.  There's a battle royal in two weeks where the winner earns a Heavyweight Title shot...Bo has entered and so has Neville.  Heel turn imminent?

Kazma Sakamoto & Briley Pierce(w/o entrance) vs. Conor O'Brian, handicap match:  Speaking of squash, it looks like that trend may continue.  The underdogs work together momentarily but it doesn't make much of a difference...O'Brian Flapjacks both men at once and pins both(I think Sakamoto was legal, not that it matters).  Conor celebrates his win...and we see the long-absent Rick Victor watching from the entrance stage.  Hmm...

Backstage, Tony Dawson interviews Corey Graves...he's entered the battle royal and vows to earn the title shot.  The promo is interrupted by Bray Wyatt...there's a war going on and Graves' time will come.  Corey doesn't back down, but Wyatt literally laughs off the retort.

Big E Langston vs. Damien Sandow for the NXT Title:  CHALK UP~!  Sandow nearly gets caught in the Big Ending early but escapes the setup in short order.  Maddox insists that "five" is Big E's IQ and that he "almost had him" when they fought a few weeks ago.  Damien elbows out of another finisher attempt and rolls out of the ring to regroup...yeah, that's about how this one's gonna go.

Sandow finally avoids an avalanche and clotheslines Langston from behind to gain control.  Big E backs him into the corner to get some separation but runs into a dropkick...for two.  Damien tries to keep him down, gets shoved right out of the ring...but re-enters with a double axhandle off the top for two.  A dropkick to the knee slows Big E down a bit...dueling chants ensue and Langston hits a belly-to-belly suplex out of nowhere.  Looks like El Big Comeback and so it is...FIVE~! knees to the gut set up the Vader Smash...the straps come down but Sandow escapes the Big Ending AGAIN to hit an Edge-O-Matic!  Cover...gets 2 1/2!  Russian legsweep sets up the Elbow Of Disdain...which misses.  Sandow comes back with a swinging neckbreaker and hits the elbowdrop on the second try...for 2 1/2!  He looks to finish with the Terminus, but Big E powers out of it and catches him off the ropes with the Big Ending...fourth time's the charm and that's enough for the win!  Langston hits a post-match Big Ending and makes his own FIVE~!-count...why not?

Next week:  Corey Graves vs. Bray Wyatt, Sami Zayn vs. Curt Hawkins.

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay, Todd Keneley, & Taz.
-Bobby Roode d. Tag Team Champion Chavo Guerrero Jr. by DQ when James Storm entered the ring and spit beer in Roode's face.
-Bound For Glory Series Qualifying Tournament:  Jay Bradley d. Christian York after the Boomstick(lariat).
-Women's Champion Velvet Sky d. Gail Kim(non-title) via rollup after kicking her into the turnbuckles to counter a figure-four leglock attempt.  Gail attacked after the match and locked her in the figure-four around the ringpost.
-Kenny King won a triple threat match with Chris Sabin and Petey Williams to retain the X-Division Title when he pinned Petey after the Royal Flush.
-Tag Team Champion Shawn Hernandez d. Christopher Daniels(w/ Frankie Kazarian); James Storm's distraction led to Hernandez finishing with the Pounce.
-Joseph Park d. D-Lo Brown; D-Lo busted Park open with repeated punches to the head and Park snapped, rallying against D-Lo before winning with the Blackhole Slam.

WWE Main Event

-Commentators:  Michael Cole & Mike Mizanin.
-Tag Team Champions Kane d. Seth Rollins(w/ Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns) by DQ when Ambrose broke up the pin after the chokeslam.  With Daniel Bryan not in the building, it looked like another three-on-one situation but Jimmy & Jey Uso made the save before they could deliver the triple-team spike powerbomb.
-Sin Cara d. Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett(non-title); Barrett hit a turnbuckle powerbomb, but Sin Cara countered a second attempt into a rana pin.
-Cody Rhodes d. Justin Gabriel after the Crossrhodes.

SICW Special Comment + This Week In Wrestling

Really good crowd for the Argosy Casino show...sounds like the same was true for the Q&A session with the legends on Friday.

Honestly, I feel a bit out of place at shows like this...I'm not old enough to remember the heydays of some of these guys.  St. Louis has a storied history with regards to professional wrestling, so it's pretty cool to see some of the people who paved the way for the current scene.

Gary Jackson used the nickname "Night Train" that was once given to him by Bruiser/King Kong Brody.  I always thought Brody used the "Bruiser" name to avoid conflict with King Kong Bundy; from what I've been told, it was actually the opposite situation as Brody used the "King Kong" name in the Midwest to avoid conflict with Dick The Bruiser.  Solid opener between Gary and Bobby D(who, as previously noted, has slimmed down quite a bit in the time I've seen him).

Kevin X and Alexandre Rudolph didn't click too well at times but it was a decent outing.  Rudolph tried to make a name for himself by pushing around Baron Von Raschke...that earned him a taste of the BRAAAAIN CLAAAAAWWWWW~!  I assume the referee didn't feel like asking nicely for the visiting legend to not interfere in the match, so Rudolph just got counted out instead.

David DeLorean subbed for Jon Webb(who worked MMWA at South Broadway)...I think Gary was the only person who worked both shows.  Hadn't seen Jason Jones before...solid worker from what I saw.  DeLorean showed surprising agility for a big guy as he did a moonsault...too bad Jones moved out of the way.  Harley couldn't exactly play a physical role but Jones did put the WLW belt on his shoulder on the way out.

Kasa and Hargas had their working boots on...it helped that Gerry Brisco was keeping an eye on the proceedings thanks to his issue with manager Travis Cook.  The superplex spill was scary as Hargas bounced off a ringside table on the way down.  Kasa's Van Terminator attempt was impressive(though it didn't hit the mark).

Schmitt-Powers was a wild brawl as expected...Ron's old feud with Cowboy Bob Orton led to the surprise win for Schmitt.  The post-match angle led to a change in next week's East Carondelet show as Trevor Murdoch won't be there...but Orton will.

With the buildup to the Classic Title match, I definitely thought a title change was a possibility...and it nearly happened.  Too bad Flanagan didn't hide those brass knuckles a bit better...

The Big Texan looked very different in his new red-and-black gear and mask.  Hard to believe Valentine is 62 years old...he looks the same as he always has(ditto for The Baron)!  The final match ended with stereo figure-four leglocks from The Hammer and Brisco on Vaughn and Cook...well done.

It sounds like MMWA had an eventful show at South Broadway...Matt King won the Battle Royal Title from Chase King and Brian James captured the T.V. Championship from Jimmy D.  Several WLW wrestlers debuted for the promotion(Webb, Jack Gamble, Michael Magnuson)...don't know if Kevin Esparza is a Harley trainee or a Broadway trainee.  On top of that, Ace Hawkins returned to MMWA and nearly won the Heavyweight Title from Dave Osborne...things are getting interesting at the old Athletic Club.

Next weekend will be a busy one...Friday night is a rare show from FIST Combat(in conjunction with Dynamo Pro Wrestling) at Pop's in Sauget, IL with Sabu on the card.  Saturday has SICW in East Carondelet with Cowboy Bob Orton and Butch Reed appearing...also on that night, CSCW returns to Swansea.  Don't think anyone's running shows in the area on Memorial Day weekend...
