Dynamo Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Friday's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at the Loading Dock Bar & Grill in Grafton, IL:

DISCLAIMER:  I'm biased.  Deal with it.

It was a busy weekend as I attended four wrestling shows in a span of three days...I went straight from work on Friday to Ben Simon's humble abode and did the driving to Grafton from there.  I have finally joined the twenty-first century and acquired a smartphone since my ancient flip phone finally gave up the ghost...said smartphone comes with its own form of GPS, so that guided me to my destination with help from Ben.  It was another solid turnout in Grafton and one would have to call the venture a successful one; hopefully they can return to The Loading Dock next summer.

Your ring announcers were Chris Roedel & Luke Roberts; your referees were Scott Ramsey & Jay King.

Outtkast vs. Jackal vs. "The Caramel Bear" C.J. Shine vs. Frodo "The Ghost" Meyer vs. The Snitch vs. Benjamin J. Trust:  The Snitch got the microphone before once again deciding to let Chris Roedel read his pre-match message.  The match was a bit imbalanced with two rulebreakers and four fan favorites, but that allowed Snitch and Trust(making his Dynamo debut) to sneak around more effectively and pick their spots while the others battled it out.  Outtkast nearly picked up the win after hitting the Case Study on Meyer, but Snitch threw him out of the ring and stole the pin in 7:47.

Savanna Stone vs. Miss Monica Passeri:  This was Savanna's first match against an opponent other than Rahne Victoria, so it was a notable test for her.  I hadn't seen a whole lot of Monica in singles competition prior to this.  I liked the match a lot; the future of St. Louis women's wrestling continues to show a lot of promise.  Savanna gave the former World League Wrestling Women's Champion a run for her money, but Rahne made an appearance to turn the tide against her rival.  That allowed Monica to score the victory with a roundhouse kick to the head in 7:38...but she didn't care for Rahne sticking her nose into her business.  Monica and Rahne exchanged words until Rahne clotheslined Monica, then dropped her with the Flatliner...I suspect that triple threat match we didn't quite get at Concordia Turners is in our future.

"The Neon Icon" Justin D'Air(w/ Lady D'Air) vs. "The Millenial" Danny Adams:  D'Air's been making waves locally in recent months; Adams has been gaining notoriety for his work in Glory Pro as well as AAW and other nationally-known promotions.  Adams focused his attack on D'Air's arm, delivering a tornado single-arm DDT at one point.  D'Air rallied with a Diamond Cutter on the ring apron(#HARDESTPARTOFTHERING) and then a springboard Buff Blockbuster for a near-fall.  He went to the top rope for the 450 Splash but hit nothing but mat as Adams moved out of the way...Adams capitalized with the fisherman driver to win in 11:23.

"The Warhorse" Jake Parnell vs. Thomas Muños:  Parnell was originally scheduled to face Teddy King, who was absent for unknown reasons.  Muños made his Dynamo debut at the last Concordia Turners show in a loss to C.J. Shine; he has also competed for Pro Wrestling Championship Series in this area.  While Muños had the size advantage, Parnell was a bit too much for him on this night; he got the win in 11:22 after his patented double-stomp off the second rope to the back.

"The Wildman From The Ozarks" Alexandre Rudolph & "The Big Mustache On Campus" Mikey McFinnegan vs. The Agents Of Chaos(Viktor Von Stein & Xavier Shadowz):  This was scheduled to be the Dynamo tag team debut of Roscoe Eat Lisa, but "Zesty" Zakk Sawyers reportedly quit the wrestling business and McFinnegan found a substitute partner in the former "American Viking".  Rudolph and McFinnegan are familiar enough with each other to make a solid combination, along with their individual tag team experience with different partners.  However, the Agents Of Chaos were the more cohesive unit here...Shadows hit Rudolph with his elevated neckbreaker and Von Stein followed up with the Legdrop O' Doom, allowing Shadows to pin Rudolph in 9:13.

Intermission~!  Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm):  Popcorn and water, both free at the venue...woo.  Some of the wrestlers hung out at the table where I was seated and I was offered a leftover chicken wrap...cool by me.

Brandon Espinosa vs. Jaden Roller:  I need a scorecard to keep track of where I'm supposed to cheer and boo Espy.  Roller was making his debut in the area, having just moved to the Midwest...he's got good size and physique, plus he seems like he's got the in-ring talent as well.  I look forward to seeing more of what Roller has to offer in the area.  He was up against a top-notch opponent and gave him a tough battle...Espy won via brainbuster in 8:20.

"The Hybrid Ace" Jon Webb vs. "The Roman Dynasty" Karim Brigante:  Monica was absent from ringside after her earlier bout(as well as the post-match altercation); perhaps that contributed to a lack of focus on the part of her man.  I have no idea why Webb isn't booked more in this area; he only seems to work World League Wrestling(where he's the Jr. Heavyweight Champion) and Dynamo.  I feel like he would fit in well with Glory Pro...hopefully that can happen down the line.  Brigante's on a lot of radars these days, including the most important ones...I imagine it's just a matter of gaining more experience.  Webb won by countering into a variation of his Asai DDT finisher in 13:29...most tremendous.

Heavyweight Champion Brandon Aarons vs. "Lights Out" Adrian Surge, Riot On The River Tournament(non-title):  These two crossed paths at the Cinco De Mayo show; Surge won their initial match by DQ and Aarons won the no-DQ rematch.  Surge has trended toward fan favoritism but he wasn't going to beat out the champion in a popularity contest.  Surge took control after Aarons' dive off the apron hit only guardrail...he set up for a People's Elbow, but Aarons got up and hit a Stone Cold Stunner that sent Surge into a tailspin.  Aarons nearly won with the double-stomp off the top rope but Surge got a foot on the bottom rope.  He attempted the close-range superkick but got caught in a Rock Bottom for a near-fall.  Aarons attempted to go aerial again, but it was once too often to the well...the middle-rope springboard move was countered by Surge into his signature spinebuster and that scored him the tournament win in 16:34!  Surge got a specialty title belt as his reward for the tournament win...despite their previous rivalry, he and Aarons made nice after the bell.  Winning the tournament AND beating the reigning champion would have to qualify Surge for a future title opportunity...we shall see.

Post-show, I dropped Ben off as his place before returning home...I had a long weekend ahead and this was just the beginning.  Of course, that's another story for another time, so tune in next time...Same Pat-Time, Same Pat-Channel.

Since it's taking me a bit to get through these commentaries, I'll touch on the upcoming weekend here.  I had been planning to attend the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance show on Saturday, but Magic Man contacted me about ring-announcing for High Risk Wrestling in Warsaw, MO.  I haven't ring-announced in a very long time...I did so for one of Gateway Championship Wrestling's last shows and did it from a backstage microphone.  This time around, I'll be in a more official capacity...should be a good time.  Bwahahaha.

That's my special comment for this, the thirty-seventh wrestling show I've attended in the year 2017.  Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.
