Saturday SICW Results From Belleville, IL

-Ron Powers d. Alexandre Rudolph in a barely-contained brawl. Flash Flanagan interfered but accidentally hit Rudolph with his kendo stick, leading to Powers getting the win with a flying forearm.
-Travis Cook and Dave Vaughn interrupted the Honky Tonk Man's song...that brought out Ricky Cruz who asked HTM to be in his corner for the match later in the night.
-Chaz Wesson & Bobby D d. Ax Allwardt & Jake Parnell when Wesson pinned Parnell with a cross-bodyblock off the top rope.
-Jake Dirden fought Flash Flanagan to a double countout. Ron Powers came out to ringside during the bout but didn't get involved.
-Ricky Cruz(w/ The Honky Tonk Man) d. Dave Vaughn(w/ Travis Cook) after the superkick. Travis protested the finish and Honky bashed him twice with his guitar.

WWE NXT
Commentators: Tom Phillips, Alex Riley, & Renee Young(for the women's match). Ring announcer: Kendall Skye.
Leo Kruger vs. Antonio Cesaro: So who's the face in THIS one? These two got their signals crossed during the Bo Dallas Invitational last week, so we've got this match. Cesaro dropkicks Kruger right out of the gate...those "We The People" chants are getting pretty loud. Kruger fires back and clotheslines Cesaro out of the ring, then follows him to the floor where they fight it out. BACK RAKES~! Cesaro controls the pace for a bit, but Leo reverses a suplex before stomping him down in the corner. Antonio reverses him into the turnbuckles before dashing in with a EUROUPPERCUT~!...for two. Double-stomp gets two. Unique Rock Bottom variant...gets two. Third floor...but Kruger cuts him off and hits the superplex!
The battle spills out to the floor again...Leo surprisingly takes to the air for a suicide dive! Back in for a spinebuster, but Cesaro rolls out to avoid the Slice lariat...Kruger follows him but gets thrown into the steel steps. Undaunted, Cesaro throws him out of the ring again and hits a back suplex onto the edge of the ring! Leo beats the ten-count and Antonio throws him out AGAIN...he tells him to STAY DOWN and hits a gutwrench suplex on the entrance ramp! Kruger beats the count once again, frustrating Cesaro...Antonio pummels him with European uppercuts before dropping him with a torture-rack slam...for two! Neutralizer...is countered by a backdrop. Leo gets one shot in, but runs right into the pop-up EUROUPPERCUT~!...for two! Cesaro grabs the Swiss Sleeper and takes Kruger down to the mat with a bodyscissors...but Leo won't quit and fights back to his feet. Antonio mows him down with a short-arm clothesline in response, then decides to just end it with the Neutralizer...second time's the charm. 1-2-3. Cesaro's not done and drops a knee from the top rope...WE THE PEOPLE~! Referees hit the ring to check on Leo...
Charlotte Flair(w/ Bayley Rose) vs. Santana Garrett: Hey, I know that other gal! FLIPPIES~! ensue for both ladies. Santana does better than you might think, but Summer Rae & Sasha Banks make their way to ringside for no particular reason. Their mocking "support" leads to Charlotte mounting a comeback, but she's distracted enough for Santana to roll her up for two. Charlotte drops her with a fireman's-carry Flapjack, then hits the low-altitude somersault Diamond Cutter for the win. Charlotte & Bayley leave without incident, but Summer has something to say. They're the "BFFs"(Beautiful Fierce Females) and they claim to have put NXT Women's Champion Paige Knight out of commision...but Paige shows up to dispute those claims. Paige beats down Sasha but it's a two-on-one situation...the fans chant for Emma Tayla and she appears as requested! The BFFs were just leaving...
Backstage, Tony Dawson(not gone yet) catches up to the BFFs...they want a tag match with Paige and Emma next week.
Mojo Rawley vs. Danny Burch: Well, the new guy has no shortage of energy...STAY HYPED~! He's a big guy who can move pretty well, but Burch doesn't just lay down. Mojo rallies with shoulderblocks and a series of Stinger Splashes, then a flying butt-bump followed by the Earthquake buttdrop for the victory.
Backstage: Dawson interviews Paige & Emma...they're on different pages as it relates to who needs who's help, but they do accept the challenge. Emma annoys Paige with her dancing...Paige: "Emma, I'll hurt you..." Emma: "Yeah, right..."
Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady vs. Alexander Rusev & Scott Dawson(w/ Sylvester Lefort): The board says "ENZO" on one side and "COLIN" on the other. The Jersey guys aren't at a loss for words, as usual. The fans know the word to describe the opposition: S-A-W-F-T~! The big boys start...not a lot of finesse in that exchange but it's effective. Enzo tags in but Rusev catches a cross-body, then holds him up against the ropes for repeated knees to the gut. Amore's in the wrong part of town...Dawson hits a short-arm clothesline and teardrop suplex but Big Cass breaks up the pin. Rusev bashes Cassady off the apron in response, then rams Enzo in the corner before making him tap out to the Accolade(camel clutch). Cassady takes some post-match abuse from the Legionnaires and gets locked in the Accolade as well...that was decisive.
Backstage: Renee Young interviews Sami Zayn...he has his shot at NXT Champion Bo Dallas next week! Speak of the devil, Bo appears with an outstanding boo-boo face...that was NOT COOL last week and that hurt his feelings! Zayn Wants Da Belt...but Bo says he doesn't have to do this. They can team up and go after the Tag Team Titles as FRIENDS! Zayn says it sounds like a good plan...but they'll do that after he wins the big belt from him. Dallas: "Un-BO-lievable!"
Rob Van Dam(w/ Ricardo Rodriguez) vs. Aiden English: The Artiste sings his way to the ring as usual...BRAVO~! For reference, this WAS recorded prior to this past week's events(RVD taking a sabbatical and World Champion Alberto Del Rio destroying Rodriguez). The fans demonstrate that they know Rob's initials. It's fairly easy to predict how this one will go...it's a showcase for Van Dam with some token heelishness by English. A well-timed rope kick puts RVD in some pain, but the educated feet make the difference. Rolling Thunder sets up the five-star frog splash and that's all she wrote.
Next week: Dallas-Zayn for the title plus Paige/Emma vs. BFFs.
TNA Impact
-Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz.
-Austin Aries d. Jeff Hardy after a top-rope brainbuster. Samoa Joe threw his hat into the ring for Ultimate X at Bound For Glory.
-Women's Champion O.D.B.(w/ Eric Young) d. Jessie Godderz(w/ Robbie Eckos)(non-title) by DQ when Lei'd Tapa attacked O.D.B.
-Brooke Tessmacher d. Velvet Sky(w/ Chris Sabin) via rollup when Sabin distracted his lady with "advice" once too often.
-Sting & Brutus Magnus d. Bad Influence(Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) when Sting pinned Kazarian after the Scorpion Death Drop.
-A.J. Styles won a handicap match against Mike Knux & Garett Bischoff(w/ Heavyweight Champion Bully Ray & Brooke Tessmacher); Knux hit Garett by mistake and A.J. took out Knux with a Pele Kick before small-packaging Bischoff for the win. Ray beat down Styles afterwards.

WWE Main Event
-The 3-Man Band(Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre, & Jinder Mahal) d. Tons Of Funk(Brodus Clay & Lord Tensai)(w/ Funkadactyls) in a handicap match when Slater pinned Brodus after a slingshot corkscrew splash.
-Tamina Snuka d. Aksana Raudoniene after a boot to the face.
-Big E Langston d. Zack Ryder with the Big Ending.
Double-Shot Special Comment
The main groups in the area do a really good job of catering to their target audiences...as I've said in the past, it's good that there are a few different types of wrestling product in the area. There's not as much talent crossover these days...only three wrestlers worked both Anarchy and Dynamo(Dan Walsh, Dingo, and Alexandre Rudolph). Luke Roberts had a full weekend as he was the ring announcer for both shows.
Anarchy brings in a lot of new talent...it can be tough to keep everyone straight sometimes. The in-ring product is obviously strong, but I wonder about the emotional connections when there are so many people in the mix. Just a smarky nitpick, as usual.
The Anarchy lineup was shuffled a few times due to schedule conflicts(Davey Richards) and injuries(Bolt Brady, Jojo Bravo, Angelus Layne). Brady was in attendance and Layne was in Brandon Espinosa's corner for his match with Arik Cannon.
ACW had a few championship shakeups lately: Bolt dropped the U-30 Title to Ricky Romida and "The Business" lost the Tag Titles to Paul London(!) & Jack Jameson.
Evan Gelistico is the ACW Heavyweight Champion and he declared the opening six-way dance to be a non-title bout, saying no one deserved a shot. That took out the whole mindset that Evan would "obviously" be winning. While it's a neat novelty for other promotions' belts to be defended, it's unlikely that those belts will change hands outside of the promotion. (To be fair, there is precedent: The LWA Tag Team Titles once changed hands on a non-LWA show and the ACW U-30 Title changed hands on an LWA show at least once.)
Good to see Christian Rose again. Was looking forward to seeing Matt Cage, but he had travel problems and couldn't make it to the show. I had to do some digging to find out the identity of "Not Matt Cage"...knew I had seen him before but couldn't place the name(Jeff O'Shea).
The two tag matches were among my favorite bouts of the night. No real "bad" matches on the show, in my opinion, but I guess that depends on your personal preferences.
I must note that Hardcore Andy finally got a managerial win(he was in A.C.H.'s corner for his match against Mark Andrews)...good for him.
Gerald James had told his "family" to stay away from ringside for his title shot against Darin Corbin. The main event definitely had a divided crowd as a result...I thought there was a chance of a title change but wasn't too sure. They broke a pattern as the last two title changes happened at Yuletide Terror in December, so Corbin didn't quite make it to the one-year mark as champion.
They did a fine job of setting up the top matches for Yuletide Terror...as noted on SLA's Facebook page, all title bouts will be two-out-of-three-falls in the future. It'll be Gerald James vs. Mat Fitchett for the title, plus the final match in the best-of-three series between A.C.H. and Davey Vega.
-----
Better turnout for Dynamo than usual, possibly due to it being a benefit show. I wonder if the show happening on Saturday instead of Friday was a factor as well.
With the heel boss overload in wrestling nowadays(Vince McMahon, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, Brad Maddox, Vickie Guerrero, John Bradshaw Layfield, and now Dixie Carter), I'm fine with a reasonable authority figure. Mark Bland isn't playing favorites as he's been cracking down on the Nikki Strychnine/Jack Adonis/Mike Sharona group for their rulebreaking as well.
Dynamo's developing a fairly deep tag team division...the Bumrush Brothers have been champs for over a year so we may be due for a title switch in the near future.
Good to see Jeremy Wyatt back in the area; it had been a little while.
Geek Singh: An Indian tech support guy who brings a computer keyboard to the ring. Have we found Webmaster Stevie K's ideal tag partner? He's a WLW/Harley Race trainee and just started a few months ago...he's a bit green but was fortunate to be in there with two veterans. As previously noted, three-way matches can be tricky to work if you're not used to them.
Miss Natural won the previous two encounters with MsChif in Dynamo, so MsChif finally got a win in this feud. There isn't nearly enough women's wrestling in this area, in my opinion...
Ricky Cruz has had some rough luck in Dynamo. This time, it was an accidental ref bump that may have cost him a chance to beat Jake Dirden and earn another title shot.
Walsh seemed to be the subtle heel in the main event, but it was sportsmanship all around afterwards. These two have a lot of history, dating back to Walsh's GCW debut against Dingo in an "Aussie Death Match". As it stands right now, I'm not making the long trip to the Pittsfield show...it looks like Dirden's shot at Walsh will take place there.
Onward through October...this coming Saturday has SICW in Belleville with the Honky Tonk Man appearing, plus MMWA at South Broadway. The following weekend has SICW in East Carondelet with Hacksaw Jim Duggan in the house. For the last weekend of the month, it's Dynamo in Pittsfield and CSCW in Swansea...heard this past weekend that the Dynamo show at Pop's was cancelled.

-The Shield(U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose & Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins) d. Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes, & Goldust. The Shield team was initially DQed when Ambrose brought a chair into the ring, but Triple H restarted it as a no-disqualification bout. Randy Orton appeared out of nowhere to RKO Bryan on the floor, then threw him into the ring for Rollins to pin. The Big Show(who had been fired by Stephanie McMahon earlier in the show) made his entrance and fought off the Shield members before finally PUNCHing out Triple H.
