WWE Raw

-Commentators:  Michael Cole, Booker T, & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-Daniel Bryan d. Dolph Ziggler with the flying knee strike to retain the Intercontinental Title (8:20 aired); Wade "Bad News" Barrett did commentary.  Barrett attacked both men after the match but Sheamus O'Shaunessy ran him off...only to lay out Bryan and Ziggler with Brogue Kicks.  Ladies and gentlemen, we have a heel turn.
-Big E Langston, Kofi Kingston, & The Lucha Dragons(Sin Cara & Kalisto)(w/ Xavier Woods) d. Tag Team Champions Antonio Cesaro & Tyson Kidd & The Ascension(Konnor O'Brian & Rick Viktor)(w/ Natalya Neidhart) when Kalisto pinned Viktor after the Salida Del Sol(sitout Asai DDT) (7:01 aired).
-Seth Rollins(w/ Jamie Knoble & Joey Mercury) vs. Brock Lesnar(w/ Paul Heyman) for the WWE Title never started as Rollins didn't feel like competing.  Rollins bailed over the barricade and Lesnar went ballistic, overturning the broadcast table, destroying J&J Security, and giving F-5s to Michael Cole and a cameraman.  Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley suspended Lesnar for his actions.  With Booker and JBL injured by the overturned table, Byron Saxton took over commentary duties.
-Damien Sandow d. Stardust with the Skull-Crushing Finale (2:23); Mike Mizanin attacked Sandow after the match and dropped him with his own version of the finisher.
-"The Man That Gravity Forgot" Adrian Neville d. Curtis Axel with the Red Arrow(corkscrew shooting star press) (1:12).
-John Cena d. Dean Ambrose after the second F-U of the match to retain the U.S. Title (11:20 aired).  Jerry "The King" Lawler joined Byron on commentary during this match.
-A.J. Lee, Paige Knight, & Naomi Night d. The Bella Twins(Women's Champion Nikki & Brie) & Natalya Neidhart when Naomi pinned Nikki after the Rear View (9:35 aired).
-Alexander Rusev d. Goldust with the Accolade(camel clutch) (2:17).
-Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, & Ryback d. WWE Champion Seth Rollins, The Big Show, & Kane when Reigns pinned Kane after the spear (9:57 aired).

Anarchy Wrestling TV #477

-Commentators:  Brett Wolverton & John "The Body" Johnson.
-"Country Jacked" Corey Hollis d. C.B. Suave to retain the T.V. Title; referee Antrone Brewer caught Suave trying to use the ropes for leverage on a pin attempt, leading to an argument.  Hollis stunned Suave with a spinning elbowsmash and got the win after a sitout Asai DDT (8:29 aired).
-During the break:  Kevin Blue challenged Hollis to a rematch for his title, but he was informed that Hollis' next title defense had already been scheduled(against "The Five-Star King" Anthony Henry).
-"The Encore" Kevin Blue d. El Gran Laredo after a corner boot (3:18); Hollis remained at ringside to watch the match.  Hollis & Blue shook hands as Hollis promised Blue a future title shot.
-Match 4 Of Best-Of-5 Series:  Fred Yehi d. "The Real" Slim J after blocking the Screwdriver On The Rocks, sitting down on J's shoulders while hooking both legs (8:21) (Series Tied 2-2)
-Jeff G. Bailey explained himself to Miss Rachael:  He tried to catch her as she fell through the ropes, accidentally knocking her into Mikael Judas' chokeslam.  Suuuuure.
-Jagged Edge & "The Modern Classic" B.J. Hancock(w/ Agent/Attorney Jeff G. Bailey & Miss Rachael) d. Heavyweight Champion "Wild" Billy Buck & "The Priest Of Punishment" Mikael Judas; Jagged Edge knocked out Buck with one of Bailey's shoes and Hancock tagged himself into the match to get the pin on the champion (11:33 aired).  Jagged Edge and Hancock argued after the match...but it was announced that Jagged Edge would get the next title shot at Buck that he had previously earned.  Hancock protested as Jagged Edge & Bailey celebrated on the arena floor...but B.J. forgot he was still in the ring with Buck & Judas.  Judas throttled Hancock for a chokeslam, but let him go to take a Buckshot superkick from Buck first.  After THAT, Judas delivered the chokeslam.

PWE Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Friday's Pro Wrestling Epic show at the Clyde C. Jordan Senior Citizens' Center in East St. Louis, Illinois.

DISCLAIMER:  I'm biased.  Deal with it.

This was a fundraiser for a local political ticket; as such, the fundraiser did the promotion for the event as opposed to PWE itself.  It was a smaller-scale show than PWE's usual fare at The Field in Pontoon Beach, IL; they've drawn really good crowds there for their first two shows.  Their shows had conflicted with other events prior to this, so this was my first visit to Pro Wrestling Epic.

When it is a smaller crowd, there's more onus on each individual fan to be actively involved in the cheering/booing/making noise in general.  It's an odd departure from my usual comparison of wrestling and standup comedy:  Comedy encourages an audience reaction, but only laughter and not outright heckling.  Wrestling is different as the bad guys do their best to PROVOKE heckling at every turn and the good guys encourage the fans to heckle the opposition.  I'm not the most vocal person at wrestling shows and prefer to sit/stand back and observe, but it can be fun to "get into" a show to that level.  A lot of the wrestlers know me and work up some level of banter...heh.

Your ring announcers were Bobby Roles and Phreze Smith; your referees were Rick Brewer Jr. and Jay King(returning to the striped shirt after several months off for health reasons).

Battle Royal:  The opener started with Tyler Copeland doing a promo about how he bought Barackus' contract and the big man would ensure his victory...this got him superkicked by Paco Gonzalez to literally kick-start the match.  (See what I did there?)  Everyone was eliminated pretty quickly:  LaMarcus Clinton, Dash Rando, Paco, Evan Gelistico, Danny Adams, and Steven Kennedy.  That left Copeland(who had rolled out of the ring for refuge), Barackus, and Clownman Jacko as the final three...Copeland told Barackus to let him eliminate the clown, but Jacko eliminated Copeland and the big man quickly sent Jacko to the floor for the win in a brisk 2:18.  This immediately segued into the next match...

Dash Rando vs. Barackus(w/ Tyler Copeland):  Splat.  Copeland seethed at ringside over his battle royal elimination as Rando got destroyed.  Clawhold Flatliner mercifully ended it in 1:31.

"The Madman" Paco Gonzalez vs. Gary Jay:  This one was really good...compared to the quickies preceding it, it got a good amount of time.  There was a fun bit of fan participation:  Paco took Gary around ringside and encouraged front-row fans to hold their feet up so he could run Gary's face into them...heh.  It's still funny how Gary went without talking for years when he was the Barn Owl, but now he's a constant trash-talker.  He scored the hard-fought win with the Michinoku Driver in 10:12...good times.

Intermission!  The Polish sausage was tremendous...I felt a need to grow a thick bushy mustache and root for DA BULLS~! after my consumption.  Jacko came out to paint kids' faces...nice little bit of fan interaction.  Speaking of which...

Clownman Jacko vs. "Infamous" Tyler Copeland:  The clown character seemed to happen out of nowhere for the former Jackson Whitechapel...I'm told that it stemmed from his former manager Sean Orleans having a "fear of clowns" and he just stuck with it.  Barackus was not at ringside for this matchup, something that led to an angle later in the show.  Jacko missed a senton bomb off the second rope(Big Top Drop?) and Copeland got a near-fall after a discus lariat, but locked on the Last Chancery and Jacko's arm dropped thrice in 3:37.  Copeland brought in a chair to do more damage but Billy McNeil ran him off.

LaMarcus Clinton vs. "The Specialist" Evan Gelistico:  The ring announcer may have actually called Gelistico "Pistol Danger" but I'm not sure.  Evan brought out a kendo stick and used it for batting practice with LMC's can of hairspray...which nearly went bad as it whizzed right by some front-row fans.  A lady in the front row laughed about it and winged it back in his direction, sending it sailing across the building...so that happened.  In honor of Larry Zbyszko's WWE Hall Of Fame entry, Evan did a tremendous stall job in the early minutes of the matchup, including a slow "striptease"-style removal of his T-shirt.  This was a good matchup with LMC playing the underdog face against the experience heel Gelistico.  Despite the low ceiling clearance, LMC pulled up some of his signature aerial moves, including the Buff Blockbuster that scored him the upset win in 11:00.

Copeland brought out Barackus and accused him of breaching his contract since he didn't protect him in the battle royal or in his singles match...he literally held the contract over the big man's head.  That led to Barackus introducing Copeland to his clawhold and dropping him with a Baldo Bomb...ladies and gentlemen, we have a face turn.

Heavyweight Champion Brandon Aarons & Billy McNeil vs. Steven Kennedy & Danny Adams:  Kennedy subbed for Leone Mephisto in a change to the only announced matchup for the show.  They started with a lot of jaw-jacking, including Kennedy & Adams wanting a pre-match handshake and Aarons & Billy not trusting them.  McNeil made a wisecrack about Adams' upbringing, causing Adams to have an emotional breakdown as Kennedy yelled "HE DOESN'T KNOW WHO HIS FATHER IS!"  Bwahahaha.  Kennedy also told a ringside woman that her hair looked like Moe from the Three Stooges...heel Kennedy is fun.  I've known three of the four guys for a long time and Adams has done really well in recent higher-profile matches.  The end came when McNeil pinned Kennedy after a splash off the top rope in 16:17.

Post-match saw the heels do the post-match attack with Mephisto joining to un-even the odds...that brought out Barackus to run them off and stand tall with the fan favorites.  Woo-hoo.

April looks like this:

-"Infamous" Tyler Copeland d. Clownman Jacko; Jacko missed a senton bomb off the second rope and Copeland got a near-fall after a discus lariat, but locked Jacko in the Last Chancery and his arm dropped three times (3:37).  Billy McNeil saved Jacko from a post-match chair attack by Copeland.
-LaMarcus Clinton d. "The Specialist" Evan Gelistico after a Buff Blockbuster (11:00).
-Copeland called Barackus to the ring and held his contract over his head, demanding that the big man treat him with more respect...but Barackus grabbed him in the clawhold and dropped him with a Baldo Bomb before walking away.
-Heavyweight Champion Brandon Aarons & Billy McNeil d. Steven Kennedy & Danny Adams when McNeil pinned Kennedy after a top-rope splash (16:17).  Kennedy & Adams were joined by Leone Mephisto in a post-match attack on Aarons and McNeil, but Barackus returned to the ring to even the odds and clear the ring.

Comedy Part 557: Walked Through The Shadows Of The Valley Of Park

Location: Valley Park Funny Bone
Emcee: Duke Taylor
After: Stryker Spurlock
Before: Bobby Jaycox

With Hey Guys Comedy not doing an open-mic show tonight, I headed out to Valley Park for their show.  I went on early(after Duke and Stryker) and feel like I did pretty well.  I'm intentionally vague about my material in these blogs because I want people to come to the shows and hear the jokes for themselves...but that intention seems to have fallen short.  I feel like I've gotten past my previous writer's block and am focusing on my newer bits instead of running the same old jokes into the ground (something I had been guilty of doing for too long).  Hopefully I can continue to do that and expand my repertoire so I can eventually do longer sets.

WWE NXT

-Commentators:  Rich Brennan & Corey Graves.
-"The Boss" Sasha Banks d. Alexa Bliss with the Bank Statement(modified Crippler Crossface) to retain the NXT Women's Title (5:39).
-NXT Champion Kevin Owens said he and Finn Bálor had a lot in common...but they made quick impacts in different ways.  Owens vowed that no one would take the belt from him "or his family".
-Backstage:  Emma Tayla had a word with Bayley Rose...Emma told her to ignore the fans and focus on her own success.  Bayley refused to turn her back on her supporters and got a slap to the face in response.
-Backstage:  Devin Taylor interviewed Tyler Breeze, who said that he was looking for an NXT Title shot since he beat Hideo Itami.  That drew Itami's attention and he challenged Breeze to a best-of-three-falls match on next week's show.
-Coming soon:  Dana Brooke.
-Backstage:  Devin interviewed Bálor...he does his talking in the ring and doesn't need "the demon" to win.
-Backstage:  Enzo Amore, Colin Cassady, & Carmella Van Damme had a chat, but NXT Tag Team Champions Wesley Blake & Buddy Murphy interrupted for an apology since they accidentally knocked her off the apron last week.  They gave her some jewelry as a gift...stirring up some dissension in the ranks as Carmella protested that Enzo & Cass never got her jewelry...
-Kevin Owens d. Finn Bálor with the pop-up powerbomb to retain the NXT Title (20:12 aired).

Anarchy Wrestling TV #476

-Commentators:  Brett Wolverton & John "The Body" Johnson.
-Jeremy Foster d. "The Violence Artist" Trever Aeon to retain the Young Lions' Title (8:05 aired).  Aeon hit Foster from behind after the pin, then dropped him with a DDT.
-Jacob Ashworth, "The Undead Luchador" Supernatural, & Sless Taylor d. "The Big Ticket" Marcus Scott, Nick Brutal, & Manson Craine when Ashworth pinned Craine after the inverted swinging neckbreaker (8:52 aired).
-Ironman Challenge: "Hit For Hire" Bobby Moore d. Lars Manderson(w/ Miss Rachael) after a roaring elbow with his "loaded" elbowpad (7:42 aired).  Agent/Attorney Jeff G. Bailey watched the match from ringside and threw in the elbowpad after it had been knocked away from Moore, leading to the finish.
-The Devil's Rejects("The Angel Of Death" Azrael & "The Lethal Dose" Stryknyn) won a triple threat match with The Big F'n Deal("Wrestling's Most Dangerous Weapon" Geter & Brian Blaze) and The Washington Bullets(Jon & Trey Williams); Blaze was injured when he hit the guardrail on a missed dive off the apron, so Geter carried his partner back to the dressing room.  That left the Rejects and Bullets to fight it out; Azrael picked up Trey in torture-rack position, then dropped him right into a spear from Stryknyn for the finish (13:52 aired).  After the match, Geter congratulated the champs on their win, but he said they hadn't officially beaten himself and Brian Blaze.  Azrael & Stryknyn had no problem with accepting the challenge for a standard tag match with the belts on the line.

SICW Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling show at the Community Center in East Carondelet, Illinois.

DISCLAIMER:  I'm biased.  Deal with it.

SICW's monthly event in East Carondelet drew a pretty big crowd.  It was already a full house, but a group celebrating someone's birthday arrived a few matches into the show.  It produced one of the largest attendance numbers in the building's history, according to the Wrestling Observer newsbite (about 400).  Pardon the lack of detail; I had a long weekend and I'm not feeling the best at the moment...

Your ring announcer was Drew Abbenhaus; your referees were Terry Riley & Denny Thomas.

Morgan sang the National Anthem again...nice job.

Promoter Herb Simmons started the show by bringing out a surprise guest:  Cowboy Bob Orton!  They chatted about a "proposal" Herb had for him and Orton declined; Orton was speaking very softly and I could barely hear him, so I wasn't quite sure what was said at first (I thought he said that he hadn't made his decision yet).  He will be appearing at the show in Millstadt on April 18th.

"Your Canadian Hero" Sean Vincent vs. Waco:  Vincent had been using the figure-four leglock for a while, but he's changing it up with a new variation of the hold...I think Drew referred to it as the "Mapleleaf Leglock" on SICW Wrestling Explosion.  Vincent was able to take out the leg on a few occasions, then get Waco down long enough to apply his submission hold for the tapout in 8:41.  I like how the time limits are consistent so the possibility of a draw is there, meaning it can easily be teased without being blatant about it...this match had a ten-minute limit, so the clock was ticking down when the finish happened.

"Dead Sexy" Daniel Gunner vs. Bubba Troll:  This was a rare battle of rulebreakers in an SICW ring...the fans seemed to gravitate toward Gunner as the favorite for the night.  It didn't last long as Gunner couldn't overtime Troll's size and power advantage...Bubba finished him off with a sitout Tombstone in 2:29.

Big Jim Hoffarth vs. Ax Allwardt:  This was more of a fight than a wrestling match, as you would expect from the participants.  I don't know if it'll turn into a longer-term feud, but Ax was blatantly disqualified for hitting Hoffarth with his chain in 5:57.  Ax choked him down with the chain, but Hoffarth was quick to recover and Ax bailed out of the ring to avoid retribution.

Herb interviewed visiting guest Nikolai Volkoff about his career...Travis Cook continued his long-standing tradition of interrupting these segments and he was accompanied by Bull Bronson and Chris Hargas on this night.  He proclaimed his admiration for Volkoff's previous anti-American views, saying that Americans nowadays ARE weak.  He asked Volkoff to sing the Russian national anthem for old time's sake, but Nikolai opted for "God Bless America" instead...and Cook's guys attacked him.  That brought out Cowboy Bob Orton for the save...

Herb spoke with Orton and Volkoff after that incident...Herb noted that Daniel Eads was unable to attend the show so he had a spot open in the scheduled six-man tag match.  Orton noted that he always brings his gear with him and accepted that spot...and he also accepted Herb's proposal, which was a spot in SICW as the Director Of Affairs.  It looks like Cowboy Bob will be a more consistent part of the company for the foreseeable future...

Cue intermission numero uno...a LONG intermission since there was a sizeable line for autographs and merchandise from Volkoff.  That prompted a decision announced later in the show to schedule pre-show meet-and-greets for future special guests...probably a good idea as this show ran pretty late.

Keith Smith Jr. vs. "Volatile" Curtis Wylde(w/ Wyldefyre):  Keith Jr. has been forging his own path in SICW since making his singles debut, but more experienced heels have been getting the upper hand against him.  He's been paying his proverbial dues, including a back rake from Wyldefyre that drew a bit of blood from my vantage point.  Keith Jr. was able to get Wylde in the figure-four leglock(one of his father's signature moves), but Wyldefyre distracted the referee from seeing the tapout.  Keith Jr. confronted her, leading to Wyldefyre delivering a low blow as Curtis drew the official's attention.  Wylde capitalized with a rollup and handful of tights for the cheap pin in 8:53...there will be another day for Keith Jr.

"The Old School Warrior" Chaz Wesson vs. Brandon Espinosa:  This was a very interesting matchup from my perspective...I don't these two had crossed paths prior to this.  Espy showed how far he had come in the business by giving as good as he got from the veteran.  The match could have realistically gone either way, but it ended in a ten-minute time-limit draw...gosh darn it, they'll have to wrestle each other again.  Gosh darn it.

Cowboy Bob Orton, "The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz, & Red River Jack(w/ Big Daddy & Nikolai Volkoff) vs. Attila Khan, Bull Bronson, & "The Icon" Chris Hargas(w/ Travis Cook), best-of-three-falls:  Herb made a managerial exception for Volkoff's presence at ringside(since Big Daddy and Cook had manager's licenses).  Ricky took the lion's share of the abuse from the Travis Cook Organization trio, then RRJ got the hot tag.  Chaos ensued as everyone brawled, then RRJ brought in a chair and whacked Khan as the referee was trying to restore order on the floor.  As the referee turned around, Jack threw the chair to Khan and fell to the mat...leading to the official disqualifying Khan for the first fall in 12:10.  EDDY~!

The second fall was a bit shorter than the first...I had trouble seeing any of the fan favorite team dropping a decision(RRJ is undefeated and Ricky just turned face).  Orton didn't do much until the hot tag near the end...he got the better of a slugfest with the big man Bronson and got the win for his team with an RKO in 17:06.  Ironically, the RKO is also known as the ACE Crusher...*ducks thrown objects*

The second intermission WAS brief for obvious reasons...

Bobby D vs. Flash Flanagan:  Flash was in a worse mood than usual on the heels of his Classic Title loss in February.  He may have overlooked Bobby D who gave him a competitive matchup here...but Flanagan knocked him off the top rope, leaving him hanging upside-down in the proverbial Tree Of Woe.  Flash went to the top rope and delivered a double-stomp with Bobby D in that position...that was enough for the victory in 8:22.

"Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson(w/ Big Daddy) vs. "Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook):  This one seemed rushed due to the lengthiness of the show...it turend out to be the shortest match of the night.  The referee was knocked down and Travis broke up the Texas Cloverleaf with a cane shot to Jackson's back...that allowed Kasa to score a near-fall.  The official was still regaining his senses, so Kasa held Gary as Travis climbed to the second rope.  However, the champion moved out of the way and Kasa took the cane to the head!  Gary decked the manager and covered Kasa for the three-count in a brisk 3:33...all righty then.

Post-show:  We were stopped by a train on the way to Denny's and were worried about how long we would sit in our cars as the train came to a complete stop...I used to have that problem a few times when I drove to the 5th & Missouri MetroLink station.  Thankfully, it started moving again and the post-show food run proceeded as planned.  The chicken loaded potato skillet gets my recommendation...excellent.

Picked up the brand-new 2014 Missouri Wrestling Revival yearbook...nicely done.  Shoutout to Brian Kelley & Dubray Tallman for all the work and road hours they put into covering this area's independent wrestling scene.

Attila Khan, Bull Bronson, & "The Icon" Chris Hargas(w/ Travis Cook) in a best-of-three-falls match.  The Orton/Cruz/RRJ team won the first fall by DQ when Jack hit Khan with a chair behind the referee's back, then threw the chair to Khan and fell to the mat; the referee turned around and saw Jack down with Khan holding the chair and disqualified the Travis Cook trio (12:10).  Orton/Cruz/RRJ won the second fall when Orton pinned Bronson after an RKO (17:06).

Ricky Cruz & Ron Powers: The Story Of A Rivalry

As seen on www.missouriwrestlingrevival.com:

The tumultuous history between Ron Powers and Ricky Cruz has taken several interesting turns...and it took another turn last month in Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling.

Their story started years before they ever crossed paths in the East Carondelet Community Center.  Each man has his own perspective on the situation:  Ricky said that Ron deliberately injured his brother in a match in Puerto Rico, ending their dream of competing as a tag team.  Ron said that he was a different person at the time and had changed since that era of his wrestling career.

The tension boiled over when Powers dished out a bloody beating to Cruz in the middle of the ring...that kicked off a wild series of matches with the SICW Classic Wrestling Championship at stake.  In the end, Cruz walked away with the gold...but Powers never forgot who put that blemish on his record.

The two fought other competitors but their paths seemed to keep crossing at different points.  When "Ironman" Ken Kasa cashed in on a promised title shot to steal the title from Cruz, it was Powers' post-match beating that set the table for Kasa's actions.

Over time, Powers' focus changed and the fans started to get behind the veteran's no-nonsense attitude.  That may have touched a nerve with Ricky Cruz...while they may have been on the same side at times, Ricky never forgot about what Powers had done to him in the past.  That led Cruz to a spot as guest referee in a grudge match between Powers and Flash Flanagan...Ricky had no love lost for either man, but his more recent issue was with Flanagan.

It seemed like Cruz would call the match right down the middle, but he turned on Powers with a superkick out of nowhere to give Flash the victory.  The longtime fan favorite was suddenly hearing boos...he insisted that he hadn't changed, but the fans' support of Powers had altered his perception of them.  The feud was reignited with the popularity roles reversed, leading to some interesting alliances on either side.

The most interesting alliance was between Ricky Cruz and Travis Cook's Organization.  Despite the fact that it was Cook's manipulations that led to the end of Ricky's title reign, Ricky felt they had a common enemy and formed a tenuous partnership with Travis and company.  The rival clashed in a loser-leaves-town match and it was the interference of the Travis Cook Organization and Flash Flanagan that led to Powers' unceremonious exit from SICW.

A few months later, manager Big Daddy brought in a masked newcomer named "Red River Jack".  The powerhouse racked up several impressive victories, but Ricky Cruz and Travis Cook suspected that RRJ wasn't what he seemed.  King Kong Brody had once competed under a hood with the Red River Jack name...and Ron Powers was once a protege of Brody.  Cruz and Cook connected the dots and speculated that RRJ was actually Powers.

The war continued with Cruz siding with Cook's stable against their common enemies...but Travis had made one too many enemies and it all came to a head in December.  RRJ's mask was on the line in a match with Ricky Cruz...and recent Cook rival Jim Cornette was the special guest referee.  On top of that, Jake Dirden was the ringside enforcer to ward off the interference of Cook's Organization.  Promoter Herb Simmons had ruled that if Ron Powers had violated the stipulation of the loser-leaves-town match by competing under the hood, he would be banned from SICW for life.

Chaos ensued as Ken Kasa and Flash Flanagan both got involved in the matchup...Cornette and Cook came to blows and Red River Jack got the win after whacking Cruz with Cornette's trademark tennis racket.  RRJ had retained his mask and Ron Powers made his official return to SICW at the start of 2015...but Travis Cook's Organization was still intent on proving their point.  In the process, cracks started to form in the alliance between Cook and Ricky Cruz...Cook vowed that Kasa would be champion again, something that didn't sit well with Ricky.  That may have reminded Ricky about the circumstances that led to the end of his own title reign.

During a tag match pitting Cruz and Kasa against Gary Jackson and Jim Hoffarth, Travis Cook tried to interfere but accidentally threw powder in Cruz's eyes.  Once Ricky recovered from the temporary impairment of his vision, he confronted Cook about his actions and then walked away from the match, leaving Kasa to lose in a two-on-one situation.  Despite that turn of events, Travis Cook insisted that everything was fine in the Cruz/Cook alliance...and that led to the events of February 21st.

The main event between Red River Jack and Attila Khan turned into all-out pandemonium as Travis Cook's Organization gang-attacked RRJ.  Ken Kasa and new recruit Chris Hargas helped Khan triple-team the masked man while Big Daddy was handcuffed to the ringpost and unable to help.  They restrained Jack while Travis called Ricky Cruz to the ring for the honor of removing the mask.  Ricky nearly got the hood off RRJ's head...but then turned around and attacked the members of Travis Cook's Organization!  At the end of the night, Red River Jack's identity remained unrevealed and Ricky Cruz stood tall, once again hearing the cheers of the fans...

In the wake of last month's event, Ricky told promoter Herb Simmons that he had let his issues with Ron Powers/Red River Jack cloud his judgment and led him to associate with the wrong people...he had experienced several changes in his life that had changed his perspective on a lot of things.  Despite all of that, it remains to be seen whether he will be able to coexist with his old rival...he is scheduled to team with RRJ and Daniel Eads against the Travis Cook Organization at the next show.  One thing is for sure:  The story between Ricky Cruz and Ron Powers is far from finished.

The Night Train Captures The Gold

As seen on www.missouriwrestlingrevival.com:

There has rarely been a goal that Gary Jackson hasn't achieved.

"The Night Train" has held championships all over the Midwest and has competed in the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling.  However, the SICW Classic Wrestling Championship had eluded him since the very creation of the title.

Gary was one of the favorites in the tournament to crown the inaugural champion in January of 2011, but he was eliminated in a time-limit draw with Dave Vaughn.  He never got a chance to challenge Danny Boy Hawkins for the gold as his title reign was short-lived...and he only got one shot at Ron Powers when he was champion, dropping the fall in a triple threat match that also involved Chris Hargas.

Gary challenged Ricky Cruz for the title on a few different occasions.  One of Ricky's first defenses as champion was against Jackson, but that match was thrown out due to the interference of the Travis Cook Organization.  It would be months before Gary would get another crack at the belt...at the end of a hard-fought battle, Cruz locked on his Cruzeta Azteca submission hold.  Jackson never submitted or tapped out, but he passed out in the hold and the referee called for the bell.  The devastating defeat had halted Jackson's title hopes once again.

The veteran had no problem with working his way back up the ladder...and soon he was in title contention once again.  This time the titleholder was "Ironman" Ken Kasa, managed by Travis Cook.  Jackson appeared to be on the verge of finally capturing the title as he had Kasa in the Texas Cloverleaf, but Cook blatantly interfered to get his man disqualified and save the title.  That led to the return of Big Daddy as he was handcuffed to Cook for the following month's rematch...but Kasa was able to counter the Cloverleaf with a small package to escape with the title.

Once more, Gary found himself on the outside looking in on the title picture.  Issues with Flash Flanagan and Mohamad Ali Vaez sidetracked him from his championship aspirations as the belt went from Kasa to Heath Hatton to Flanagan.  Jackson defeated Vaez in a hard-fought Texas Death Match and then settled his old issue with Kasa by making him tap to the Cloverleaf in a  tag match...and that finally put him in position the challenge for the title once again.  However, this time around it was all or nothing for "The Great One"...it would be his last shot at SICW gold.

It was the first one-on-one encounter between Flanagan and Jackson after the two had traded pinfall victories in previous tag matches.  Gary had the support of Big Daddy in his corner, but Flash had a whole bag of tricks up his sleeve to potentially retain his title(some less legal than others).  Of course, one can't forget Gary's famous "rules"...he's not above bending or outright breaking the rules to achieve victory.  It was a battle of two veterans, but "Gorgeous Gary" still had the edge in overall experience.  Flanagan had the advantage in size and agility...the two were about even in terms of technical expertise and sheer toughness.

Flash was no pushover, obviously...the titleholder had experience in the WWF, TNA, and Puerto Rico on his resume.  He also brought his trademark kendo stick to the ring, something that had helped him score his tainted championship victory over Heath Hatton in November.  The two battle-hardened competitors matched each other move for move as the momentum swung back and forth...it could have easily gone either way.  For Flanagan, the championship was at stake; he enjoyed holding his title reign over the heads of SICW higher-ups who frowned on his tactics.  For Jackson, any hope of acquiring the Classic Wrestling Championship was on the line...it was "now or never".

When Flanagan was unable to put Jackson away, he went for his kendo stick...perhaps to deliver a cheap shot behind the referee's back or perhaps to blatantly get himself disqualified to save his title.  However, Big Daddy was the difference-maker as he distracted the champion from whatever he had planned.  That allowed Jackson to roll up Flanagan in a pinning combination...and three seconds later, he had finally reached the top of the SICW mountain!

Pandemonium swept the East Carondelet Community Center...other wrestlers came out to celebrate with the new champion and Gary reminded us of The Rules:  He comes out to win, he refuses to lose, he will cheat to win, and don't forget The Rules.  After four years of pursuing his goal, he had finally become the SICW Classic Wrestling Champion!

Of course, the end of one story is the beginning of another and the challengers are already lining up to face "The Night Train".  However, if the long road to the top was any indication, Gary Jackson isn't the type to quit so easily and will be a tough man to dethrone as champion.
