WWE Smackdown

-Commentators:  Michael Cole & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-In the opening MizTV segment, Triple H ordered The Big Show to sit at ringside for the whole show and not interfere in anything...
-WWE Champion Randy Orton d. Mike Mizanin(non-title) with the RKO; the members of The Shield came out midway through the bout.  The heels sought to do some post-match damage but Daniel Bryan ran them off with a chair.
-Rob Van Dam(w/ Ricardo Rodriguez) d. Damien Sandow after the five-star frog splash; World Champion Alberto Del Rio threatened RVD and Ricardo afterwards.
-The Shield(U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose & Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins) d. Dolph Ziggler in a handicap match; Rollins blocked a Fameasser and hit a turnbuckle powerbomb, then Reigns finished with the spear.  Ziggler took the triple-team spike powerbomb after the bell.
-The Wyatt Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) d. Tons Of Funk(Brodus Clay & Lord Tensai)(w/ Funkadactyls); Harper hit Tensai with the discus lariat and Rowan got the pin after the big splash.  Bray dropped Tensai with the Sister Abigail after the match.
-Daniel Bryan d. Ryback by DQ when Orton ran into the ring as Bryan had Ryback in the Yes Lock.  Bryan took Orton down into the hold as well but The Shield members entered the scene, finally bringing Big Show out of his ringside seat.  Triple H stormed down the aisle and ordered Show to leave the ringside area, then nodded to his boys to continue the beatdown.  Bryan took the triple-team spike powerbomb and Orton spraypainted "NO" on him; this was payback for Bryan tagging Orton's new SUV with "YES"es on Raw.

TNA XPlosion

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Jeremy Borash
-Bound For Glory Series:  Jay Bradley d. Joseph Park(w/ Eric Young) after the Boomstick lariat.

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tony Dawson & S. William Regal.  Ring announcer:  Kendall Skye.

Earlier today:  Rick Victor interrupted NXT Tag Team Champion Corey Graves' conversation with interviewer Renee Young.  That set up a sneak attack by Conor O'Brian as the Ascension duo left him laying.

C.J. Parker vs. Tyler Breeze:  Parker has been "photobombing" Breeze's selfies in recent weeks...hey, not the worst feud setup in the world.  Parker teases a grab at the iPhone and that ticks off Breeze, as does a motion to kick him in the mush(NOT THE FACE~!).  Parker takes advantage with an airplane spin into a face-first drop to the mat...but as the ref tries to back C.J. off, Breeze gives him a cheapshot with the iPhone for the tainted win.

Backstage, Renee interviews Emma...she has another title shot at Paige Knight in her future, but she plans to deal with Summer first.

Special announcement:  Tyler Breeze has left the building.

Emma Tayla vs. Summer Rae:  Emma upset Summer in the Women's Title tournament, then Summer attacked Emma after a "dance battle" and took her spot in the rematch with Paige.  Emma brings her bubble-blowing solution to ringside...yes, that's important to note.  Emma goes for the Dil-Emma(inverted STF) right away and Summer has to grab for the ropes.  Summer pulls out her unique bodyscissors takedown but Emma turns it around in a hurry.  Summer escapes a Tarantula attempt and takes her down by the arm, then focuses her attack on the arm...PSYCHOLOGY~!  Summer gets a leg-applied full nelson...haven't seen that in a while...but Emma rolls her back into a near-pin before Summer turns it into her own pinning combo for two.  Emma avoids a blind charge into the corner and gets the Tarantula this time, then hits a low-flying cross-body as Summer's slumped in the corner.  Mid-ring catapult transitions straight into the Dil-Emma and that's good enough for the tapout!  Summer flips out after the loss and dumps Emma out of the ring, then grabs the bubble solution and throws it in her eyes!  Play SUMMER'S music!

Earlier tonight:  Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady had a conference with Scott Dawson & Sylvester Lefort about their issue with Mason Ryan.  As it turns out, the duos aren't on the same page and it turns into an argument...

Summer leaves the building and is confronted by Sasha Banks.  Sasha is disgusted by Summer's actions, but Summer says she's getting noticed and Sasha would do well to follow her lead...after all, Summer's on WWE's main-roster shows and Sasha's barely been on NXT lately.  Sasha's facing Paige in two weeks, but Summer predicts Sasha will lose unless she develops a backbone...

Enzo Amore(w/ Colin Cassady) vs. Scott Dawson(w/ Sylvester Lefort):  So who's the face in THIS one?  More importantly, who will actually WIN this one?  The fans seem to be siding with Amore & Cassady...Amore says if he had a dime for every time they got beat up as kids, he'd have ZERO dimes because they ain't S-A-W-F-T~!  Dawson wastes no time in pulling the hair, then dumps Amore on the top rope with a half-slingshot suplex.  Amore surprises Dawson with a flying headscissors, but Alexander Rusev runs out to hit Cassady from behind...is he a new member of the Lefort stable?  Dawson capitalizes on the distraction with ye olde Teardrop Suplex for the win!

Renee Young interviews Sami Zayn in the ring...OLE~!  Zayn had a great match last week with Antonio Cesaro...despite the loss, his focus is on the NXT Title.  That brings out our esteemed(?) NXT Champion Bo Dallas...Zayn doesn't deserve a title shot because TEH INTERNETZ like him and he likens this promo to interviewing the losing team at the Super Bowl.  Bo would love to face him, but Zayn injured him at SummerSlam Axxess and the kid still needs a lot of work anyway.  They aren't booing or chanting "NO!", they're saying "BO!"  The fans promptly chant "Boo!"  Zayn thinks he's scared to give him a title shot..but before that can be answered one way or the other, we're graced by the presence of Zeb Colter.  Zeb demands that Zayn(if that's his real name) present his citizenship paperwork...for his part, Sami feels like he should get Zeb and Cesaro deported back to hell.  Out of the blue, Jack Swagger attacks Zayn from behind...Bo calmly and casually leaves the ring as Swagger dishes out the beating, finishing with a deadlift gutwrench into the Doctor Bomb.  They put the Don't Tread On Me flag over him...WE THE PEOPLE~!

SummerSlam Axxess:  NXT made its presence felt.

NXT Tag Team Champion Adrian Neville vs. Conor O'Brian(w/ Rick Victor):  This was set up by the altercation at the top of the show; Graves is absent due to that assault.  Neville has an uphill battle to say the least, but the power of the FLIPPIES~! is in his favor.  O'Brian dominates for a while, but a blind charge hits turnbuckles and Adrian unloads with the educated feet.  Neville's springboard attempt lands him in O'Brian's Flapjack...for two.  Neville surprises him with a back suplex...for two.  Third floor...time for the Red Arrow(corkscrew shooting star press)?  No, 450 Splash(!)...and that's the ballgame!  The post-match assault begins in earnest...the injured Graves tries to help but takes a beating himself.  Graves takes the Total Ascension(legsweep/flying European uppercut) to close the show...cue the light show!

Next week:  Zayn vs. Swagger.

TNA Impact

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Taz.
-Bound For Glory Series:  Jeff Hardy d. Frankie Kazarian after the swanton bomb.
-O.D.B. d. Gail Kim in a best-of-three-falls match.  Gail won the first fall with a modified Texas Cloverleaf after destroying the leg; O.D.B. evened it up with a small package out of nowhere.  O.D.B. got the final fall with her own Cloverleaf.
-Bound For Glory Series:  A.J. Styles d. Bobby Roode by countering a Perfectplex attempt with a small package.
-Bound For Glory Series:  Austin Aries d. Christopher Daniels via brainbuster.
-Final four of the BFG Series:  Brutus Magnus, Aries, Roode, and Hardy.

WWE Superstars

-Commentators:  Tony Dawson & Alex Riley.
-Christian Cage d. Big E Langston by escaping the Big Ending setup to hit the Killswitch.
-Kofi Kingston d. J.T.G. after the Trouble In Paradise.

WWE Smackdown

-Commentators:  Michael Cole & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel(w/ Paul Heyman) d. Cody Rhodes(non-title) with the corkscrew snapmare driver after a distraction by Heyman.
-Dolph Ziggler d. Big E Langston(w/ Women's Champion A.J. Lee) after the Zigzag.
-World Champion Alberto Del Rio d. Christian Cage(non-title) with a cross-armbreaker takedown from the second rope.  Ricardo Rodriguez brought out Rob Van Dam after the match; Christian hit the distracted champion with a missile dropkick and RVD followed up with Rolling Thunder.
-The Big Show & Mark Henry d. The 3-Man Band(Heath Slater, Drew McIntyre, & Jinder Mahal) in a handicap match when Show pinned Drew after the PUNCH.  Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins of The Shield threatened the duo from the TitanTron.
-Darren Young(w/ Titus O'Neil) d. Antonio Cesaro(w/ Zeb Colter & Jack Swagger) via Gutcheck.
-Daniel Bryan d. Wade Barrett in a cage match after the flying knee strike.  WWE Champion Randy Orton attacked after the match with an RKO on the arena floor.

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tom Phillips & Alex Riley.  Ring announcer:  Byron Saxton.

A.J. Lee vs. Bayley Rose for the WWE Women's Title:  Bayley has a fine showing but spends more time going for hugs than for pinfalls.  A.J. plays possum a bit, then surprises Bayley with a spinkick to the midsection before getting the win with a Shining Wizard.

Backstage, Tyler Breeze gives a lucky young lady the opportunity to get a photo of him...just him.  However, C.J. Parker photobombs him once again...and this time Breeze finds out upon viewing the photo.

Michael Zaki & Ron Hicks vs. The Ascension(Conor O'Brian & Rick Victor):  Hicks never enters the bout as our resident Twilight fanboys destroy Zaki; Victor gets the pin after the legsweep/flying European uppercut combo.

C.J. Parker vs. Baron Corbin:  The former Juice Robinson finally makes his return to the ring after a long injury absence...he's sporting dreadlocks and seems to be living the hippie lifestyle these days.  I think Byron announced him as hailing from "The Moonchild Commune".  Parker wins a quick bout with a DDT variant similar to that used by Heath Hatton in the Midwest.  Renee Young does the post-match interview...he's groovy and mellow these days.  He calls the photobombing "video lovin'"...but Tyler Breeze storms out and is NOT happy with Parker's stunts.  C.J. tells him to "chillax, hot boy"...Breeze crosses the line by calling him a Lenny Kravitz wannabe but retreats when Parker threatens to hit him.  NOT THE FACE~!

Dolph Ziggler vs. Alexander Rusev:  Haven't seen much of the Bulgarian powerhouse in a while...he brings out a wooden plank with "ZIGGLER" written on it, then breaks it over his knee.  We're told he has a Muay Thai background...this won't be walk in the park for the WWE's resident "Showoff".  Rusev has about a hundred-pound weight edge on Ziggler and looks pretty good against the former World Champion...he surprises Dolph with a spinning heel kick for a near-fall, but takes too long going to the top rope and misses the splash.  Dolph takes advantage with the Zigzag...that's the ballgame!

Next:  An exclusive inside look at NXT's role in SummerSlam Axxess.

Sami Zayn vs. Antonio Cesaro, best-of-three-falls match:  These guys have been feuding since Zayn's debut night in NXT...they're tied at one win apiece so this will PROBABLY settle the issue.  Cesaro doesn't even make it to the ring before Zayn wipes him out with a no-hands somersault plancha!  Zayn pummels him, tosses him in the ring, and NOW the ref calls for the opening bell!  Zayn wastes no time...corner OLE~! Kick, rollup, and that's the first fall!

Zayn sends Antonio back to the floor and gives him the ringside tour; Cesaro seems to regain his wits only to walk into a jumping leg lariat...for two.  A series of countermoves ends in a Steamboat Press by Zayn...for two.  Cesaro finally stops him by dumping him face-first on the top turnbuckle, then tries to wear him down with the Swiss Sleeper.  Zayn backs him into the corner to escape, but Cesaro blocks a kicks and boosts him into a powerbomb!  Cover...gets two.  Back to the Swiss Sleeper but Zayn hits the jawbreaker...only to run into a major clothesline for two.  Double-stomp for two.  Sami strikes backs but Cesaro powers him down to the mat...then the deadlift gutwrench suplex gets countered into a sunset flip for two.  Zayn snaps off a Frankensteiner for two.  Cesaro gets a bridging fallaway slam out of nowhere...for two.  Ad break?  Bah!

Cesaro grabs the Swiss Sleeper again...Zayn escapes a tilt-a-whirl slam attempt but this time the rollup only gets two.  Cesaro boosts him into the air only to take a dropkick from Zayn...Sami
charges into the corner but runs right into the Swiss Sleeper!  Cesaro swings him around and takes him down to the mat...and there's the tapout for the second fall!

Antonio charges at a dazed Zayn with a EUROUPPERCUT in the corner...that gets two.  Sami fights back from the apron but gets his throat snapped off the top rope.  Cesaro pulls him up the ropes...deadlift superplex~!  Cover...gets 2 1/2!  Cesaro trash-talks Zayn...Zayn tries a small package but it's blocked, then Antonio tries a suplex only for Sami floats over into another rollup...for two.  Cesaro grabs the Swiss Sleeper again but Zayn kicks backwards into a pinning combination...for two.  Corner OLE~! Kick out of nowhere...gets 2 1/2.  Fans think This Is Awesome.  Cesaro tries to catch Zayn in a powerbomb off the ropes but Zayn goes all the way up and over into a Code Red!...for 2 1/2!  Antonio rolls out and Sami follows him to the floor...he gets a running start and dives through the ropes from the adjacent side of the ring for a flying DDT!  Sami re-enters the ring as the ref counts...but Antonio barely beats the count at nine.  Undaunted, Zayn covers...for two.  Zayn goes for his ropewalk tornado DDT finisher but Cesaro catches him in mid-air...then uses pure brute strength to pop him up into the EUROUPPERCUT, BITCH~!  The Neutralizer is a formality at this point but Cesaro hits it anyway...that'll do it.  The fans declare it to be the Match Of The Year...and Cesaro does the dirt-kick motion on the way out of the ring.  #yaywrestling

-New Heavyweight Champion Bully Ray brought out the true love of his life:  Brooke...Tessmacher.
-Gail Kim d. O.D.B. with a crucifix pin.

Comedy Part 500: McMilestone

Location: McDill's
Emcee: Me
Lineup: Joe "The Animal" Lancey, John Orr

Our audience had a good time for this mini-show...I went to the proverbial archives and did a lot of jokes that I hadn't used in a long time. Always fun to get out and perform, but other life stuff keeps taking precedence these days...would like to keep doing it, but only time will tell if it'll fit into future plans.

SICW Special Comment + SummerSlam Extra

Another pretty good turnout for SICW...no conflicting town picnic this month.

Promoter Herb Simmons and Larry Matysik started the show by addressing another local group that is using the NWA initials. I know as well as any fan that the "National Wrestling Alliance" isn't what it once was...I like a lot of the wrestlers who work for the other group, but I honestly don't know much about the people in charge of that promotion. Competition can be good but sometimes it gets overly heated...not the way I'd like to see things happen. Put on your best show and let the ticket-buying fans make the decision.

Was wondering how Travis would handle his new follicle situation...I was figuring on a ridiculous wig of some sort, but the wrestling mask was tremendous as well. Heath Hatton got the honor of relieving him of the hood.

Poor Max Archer...he'd been absent for a few months and he returned only to lose twice in one night. The SICW fans don't like Archer...Brandon Gallagher was the face by default in their singles bout.

Hadn't seen Daniel Eads before, he seems to be new...hadn't seen his name in result listings. He and Allwardt had a solid bout.

Gallagher was a face for the night and Dirden seems to be a face now...think that was Dirden's first promo time in front of a live audience and he did well with it.

Gary Jackson going over his rules before the match is like Kane doing his pyro...you know something bad might happen. Thankfully it was averted as Gary turned the tables on Texan to beat him quickly...that's what happens when you interrupt The Rules.

Really good matchup between Kasa and Hatton...didn't think the belt was changing hands, but they had some strong near-falls near the end of the match. Early in the bout, Kasa pulled out a chair for a spot and a young fan pulled it back after the two fought away from that spot...so when Hatton did the reversal, Kasa took a drop-toehold straight to the floor. Ouch.

The main event had Ricky as the face, Flanagan as the heel, and Powers somewhere in between...but the finish and the aftermath seemed to turn Powers face. We may need some new heels in the near future...

Chris Hargas and Joker are both out of action with knee injuries, from what I heard...

The next few months will be busy...other than next week, anyway. 8/31 has CSCW in Cahokia and WLW in Linn, MO with the Jack Gamble benefit show(Brian Breaker and Ace Steel on the card!). SICW has a few extra shows on the agenda including the Hillsdale matinee on 9/14 and a return to Belleville on 10/12.

-----

Haven't watched too many wrestling pay-per-views in recent memory. Went to Murphy's On 21 for Elimination Chamber...the last one before that was Money In The Bank 2011 at Show-Me's. A few comic friends had a PPV get-together that included a recording of the Rude Moose Radio podcast...will post the link once it's online, but it's a marathon so you may want to pack a lunch for that listening. Bwahahaha...

Shawn Michaels has some impressive facial hair going these days...my friends were joking that they felt like giving him some money or a bowl of soup or something. :)

I admittedly suck at predictions but I still got a few right on this night. Technically we were all right on the pre-show match(Landon/Joel/Matt said RVD would win, I said Ambrose would retain and figured on the DQ loss). They teased Reigns/Rollins vs. Henry/Show but it didn't happen.

The notInferno Match was a disappointment, sorry to say. I'm a Kanenite but it felt like a one-sided match until the interference happened. Only match on the show that I actively disliked.

RIP Cody's mustache...*sob* We were divided on that prediction, but my friends are HUGE Sandow fans and were disappointed by his loss.

My friends didn't care for Alberto or Christian. Alberto looked banged up...apparently he was involved in some kind of fight this past weekend along with Drew McIntyre. Think that was the first time Alberto had ever beaten Christian, oddly enough.

Fans didn't care for Natalya vs. Brie but it was pretty good for what it was...the tag match with Maria Menounos and Eva Marie took place at Fan Axxess.

This was the first Lesnar match I'd actually seen since his comeback...great stuff. There had been some concern on the Internets about how credible Punk would look here...he looked like he could hang with Brock and that's what counted, even though he lost. It was their first matchup and I'm sure the issue isn't over yet.

The mixed tag was fine for what it was, yup.

Glad referee Triple H was a non-factor during the actual main event matchup. Outstanding matchup; the top two bouts really delivered on this show. At the end of the day, elbow injury notwithstanding, Daniel Bryan beat John Cena for the WWE Title clean as a sheet in the middle of the ring.

They played up Orton's potential cash-in like crazy until fans convinced himself it was TOO obvious...but it was a front for the real SWERVE~! of Triple H double-crossing Bryan. Did anyone time that MITB match to see if it went around...eighteen seconds? (According to PWTorch, it went eight seconds...even better!) My friends and I were going nuts over the fact that HHH hadn't left the ring for Bryan's celebration...GET OUT OF THERE~!

As I've said in the past, "what I want to see" and "what's good for business" tend to be two different things...so yeah. It is still amazing to think that Bryan and Punk are among the top faces in WWE right now...though time will tell whether Cena is off TV for any length of time. As for either of them getting a win over Triple H in the near future...with apologies to the positivity police, I'll believe it when I see it.

Saturday SICW Results from East Carondelet, IL + Other Show Results

-Dave Vaughn(w/ Travis Cook) d. Bobby D; D tried a top-rope move but Vaughn speared him in mid-air to get the win.  Cook was wearing a wrestling mask to hide his newly-bald head.
-Chaz Wesson & Adam Raw d. Tony Raze & Max Archer; Raze & Archer had trouble getting along, leading to Raze clotheslining Archer during a chaotic portion of the bout.  Raw took advantage with a fallaway suplex on Archer, then Wesson got the win after a splash off the top rope.

-Jake Dirden d. Waco(w/ Big Texan) with the Asiatic Spike.
-Gary Jackson d. The Big Texan(w/ Waco); Texan attacked Gary as he was reminding him about his four rules, then hit a splash off the second rope.  However, Texan made a lazy cover and Gary crucifixed him for the flash pin in under a minute!  The masked men double-teamed Jackson but Dirden re-entered to help and the unlikely duo cleared the ring...leading to a tense verbal confrontation between the two.
-Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) d. Heath Hatton to retain the Classic Title.  Cook interfered a few times and Hatton got a hold of him, finally pulling the mask off his bald head!  Heath nearly got the upset win on a few occasions, but Kasa was able to reverse a pin attempt into the Iron Maiden Torture Lock...finally getting the tapout after a struggle by Hatton.
-Ricky Cruz won a triple threat match with Ron Powers and Flash Flanagan.  The bout was essentially no-DQ, something both Powers and Flanagan used to their advantage as they spent most of the match double-teaming Cruz.  The teamwork finally broke down as Flanagan accidentally hit Powers with a flying move off the second rope...Cruz fought fire with fire as he rolled up Flanagan with a handful of tights for the win!  The alliance between Powers & Flanagan blew up afterwards as the two squared off with chairs...cooler heads nearly prevailed until Powers punched Flanagan in the face!  Flanagan retreated after that...

-World Champion Alberto Del Rio d. Cody Rhodes(non-title) with the cross-armbreaker takedown.
-Jimmy & Jey Uso d. Heath Slater & Drew McIntyre(w/ Jinder Mahal) when Jimmy pinned Slater after the splash off the top rope.
-Big E Langston(w/ Women's Champion A.J. Lee) d. Justin Gabriel after the Big Ending.

WWE NXT

Commentators:  Tony Dawson & S. William Regal.  Ring announcer:  Kendall Syke.

Paul Heyman starts the show, claiming that he's scouting for the next "Paul Heyman Guy".  He brings out WWE Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel and mentions that there's no one worthy of a title shot...that draws the attention of Big E Langston(still a face around these parts).  Heyman is quick to backpedal but Axel accepts the challenge...just not for tonight, ha ha.  After an assertion of manhood deficiency, it looks like the match WILL happen right now...

Curtis Axel(w/ Paul Heyman) vs. Big E Langston for the WWE Intercontinental Title:  Regal notes that if you combine Langston and Heyman's hairstyles, you'd have a complete haircut...bwahahaha.  It doesn't seem prudent for Axel to go blow-for-blow with Big E...and he ends up on the floor in short order.  Langston overpowers Axel for most of the match, but the I-C Champ does get off his signature dropkick and Perfect necksnap.  The E Train mows down Axel and THE STRAPS COME DOWN...which brings in Heyman for an ineffectual attack.  Langston wins by DQ as a result and gets his hands on Heyman, but Axel hits him from behind in response.  Axel goes for the BELT shot but Big E avoids it...the Big Ending ensues and Langston makes his own five-count.  Of course, Axel's still the Intercontinental Champion..

Backstage, Renee Young interview Sami Zayn(OLE~!)...the feud with Antonio Cesaro is his main issue.  Zayn wants another match...how about best-of-three-falls?  That'll work.

Mason Ryan vs. Scott Dawson(w/ Sylvester Lefort):  Fare thee well, Garrett Dylan.  Dawson gets in Ryan's face and eats a short-arm clothesline right out of the gate...it's downhill from there, but Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady arrive for a distraction and Dawson clips the leg.  That advantage is short-lived...Ryan ends it with the cobra clutch slam, then fights off the three enemies before dumping Dawson over the top rope onto the other two.

Paige Knight vs. Summer Rae for the NXT Women's Title:  Emma Tayla earned a title shot in the "dance battle with Summer last week, but Summer's post-dance attack put Emma out of action for a short time.  Of course, Paige and Summer have their own previous issue to settle.  Paige isn't above pulling the hair, as Summer finds out in short order.  Summer blocks a kick and drops Paige face-first to the mat, then gets a near-fall after a sort-of reverse Pedigree.  A unique bodyscissors takedown gets another two-count for Summer, but Paige starts firing back and elbows her in the corner.  Paige turns Summer's kick block/faceplant move against her, knees her repeatedly in the ropes, then KICK WHAM PAIGE TURNER and it's over!

Backstage, Renee Young interviews the visiting WWE Women's Champion A.J. Lee...she's defending her title next week but doesn't care who she's facing.  Out of nowhere, Bayley dashes in with a hug...she's a big fan!  She followed her from her car and then followed her from her dressing room...oh yeah, she wants to face her next week!  It'll be fun!  Bayley doesn't know why people think she's crazy...she's awesome!  Bayley thinks they could still be friends after she beats her for the title...suuuuure.  HUG~!

Next week:  Dolph Ziggler!

During the break:  Emma attacked Summer as she was recovering from her match.  That feud MUST CONTINUE~!

NXT Tag Team Champions Corey Graves & Adrian Neville & Xavier Woods vs. The Shield(WWE U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose & WWE Tag Team Champions Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins):  That's a lot of belts.  This stems from Reigns & Rollins busting up Neville's U.S. Title shot at Ambrose last week, leading to Graves & Woods making the save.  YAY WRESTLING~!  The good guys make the quick tags and keep Rollins in the ring for a few minutes.  Graves takes him off the second rope with a dragon-screw legwhip and goes for the Lucky 13(Fuller leglock) but the other Shield members pull him to the floor...only for Neville and Woods to hit stereo somersault planchas!

The Shield members regain control and isolate Woods in their corner...but he flips out of a back suplex attempt by Ambrose and makes the tag to Graves!  Graves hits a gourdbuster and legdrive before getting the Lucky 13, but Reigns & Rollins break that up in short order.  Now it's Graves in the wrong part of town...after a lot of abuse, he fights out the corner and tags Neville!  The house is on fire...Neville takes out Ambrose with a big roundhouse kick, but the Red Arrow(corkscrew shooting star press) hits only knees!

Rollins gets the tag, but so does Woods and he comes in with a Steamboat Press...for two!  He follows up with an enzuigiri and low-altitude sliding Flatliner...for two!  Morphing Time(forward-roll clothesline) and Lost In The Woods(Eat-The-Feet) look to end it, but Reigns barely breaks up the pin in time.  Woods dropkicks Reigns away as Neville re-enters the fray to take Reigns and himself out of the ring with a rana.  Graves targets Ambrose but gets backdropped to the floor.  We're left with Woods and Rollins in the ring as the legal men...superplex fight ends in a blind tag and cheapshot by Reigns, allowing Seth to take Woods out of the corner with a running turnbuckle powerbomb!  Reigns takes advantage with the spear on Woods and that's the ballgame!

Backstage, Renee Young interviews Antonio Cesaro.  He doesn't appreciate being called a coward...and he accepts Sami Zayn's challenge only to get jumped by Zayn as the show ends.  ZAAAAAYN~!

TNA Impact(Hardcore Justice)

-Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Taz.
-Bound For Glory Series(20 Points):  Frankie Kazarian won a four-way ladder match with Jeff Hardy, A.J. Styles, and Austin Aries thanks to interference by Bobby Roode & Christopher Daniels.  Kazarian threw an appletini in Hardy's eyes and retrieved the clipboard from above the ring.
-O.D.B. won a non-title triple threat hardcore match with Women's Champion Mickie James and Gail Kim when she pinned Gail after the BAM(TKO) onto a chair.
-Bound For Glory Series(20 Points):  Bobby Roode won a four-way table match with Samoa Joe, Ken Anderson, and Brutus Magnus.  Daniels & Kazarian interfered and Daniels threw another appletini in Magnus' eyes, allowing Roode to powerbomb him through a table for the win.
-Bully Ray d. Chris Sabin in a cage match to win the Heavyweight Title.  The referee was knocked down and Ken Anderson stopped Sabin from escaping through the cage door.  Rampage Jackson and Tito Ortiz(who Rampage had attempted to recruit for the Main Event Mafia) entered and got rid of Anderson, but then Ortiz hit Rampage from behind with a hammer.  Ray capitalized with a powerbomb for the pinfall win.

Double-Shot Special Comment

To some people, I'm always negative about wrestling. To others, I'm not critical enough about certain things. Gotta love it. So should I critique wrestling or should I just "turn my brain off and enjoy it"?

To an extent, I've done that anyway...I accept that "what I like to see" and "what's good for business" are almost always two different things. My view of a wrestling product is really irrelevant if they're making money...it's a business at the end of the day. I always advise people to check out shows and judge for themselves...people have different tastes in wrestling.

St. Louis Anarchy has drawn pretty well for their shows lately and have built a dedicated audience. SICW had a slightly smaller turnout than their usual East Carondelet audience, but it was a "specialized" show with higher ticket prices due to the legends in attendance. Harley Race dislocated his hip last week so he was not in attendance.

At a CHIKARA show a few months ago, Matt Cage & Alex Castle(The Kentucky Buffet) were recruited by Gangrel and became "The Daywalkers". Now they're using that gimmick on a regular basis(though neither Cage nor Gangrel was in the house on Friday). Had seen Bu Ku Dao a few times on notNWA Anarchy's online TV show. Hadn't seen Travis Banks at all; he worked AAW a week or two ago and that was the only time I had seen his name. Castle and Banks(evil New Zealander~!) were the heels of the match while Dao was professing his love of America to establish himself as the face. Highlight of the match was the sick Gangrel-style elevated DDT that Castle used to eliminate Dao.

The intergender tag was...just odd. The first segment of the match consisted of the Big Owl/Lacey team delivering a lot of low blows...on Angelus Layne. The wrestling rule of thumb for women's selling of low blows seems to be "whatever's funny". :)

Yay for Dingo returning to the ring...looking forward to it.

I'm the first to tout the "size shouldn't matter" line of thinking, but some wrestlers are just NOTABLY small. Two of them were matched up against each other on this show: Jonathan Gresham and Jojo Bravo. Gresham seems to base his offense around strikes and that can be a tough thing to do at his size. With Bravo set up to feud with Dingo and also being the more established guy in the promotion, it was a slight upset when Gresham got the victory. Referee Tom Simon had trouble keeping up with these guys...heh.

Always good to see the Hooligans...had a feeling Dean & Solo would get the upset, though. Heard a while back that SLA might get its own Tag Team Titles, but hadn't heard anything about that lately.

With A.C.H. up 1-0 in the mini-series with Davey Vega, Vega was the favorite to even the score. Don't know if they're teasing a heel turn for A.C.H. with his post-match comments...

On the other side of things, they're teasing a face turn for Gerald James/Gary Jay as he didn't want his "family" at ringside for the match with Davey Richards. I've heard people say that Gary is one of the hardest hitters in wrestling...that covers a lot of ground and you wouldn't think that based on his appearance. Davey is a polarizing figure on the internets...there's not a lot of in-between as people seem to either REALLY like him or REALLY not like him. There were a lot of WWE rumors about him in the past year...even though WWE has been willing to recruit guys below their preferred size range recently, it'd still be odd to see him in that environment.

The rules of the table match stated that both team members had to go through tables for the other side to win. With the relaxed rules of the promotion in general and the match in particular, that left the door open for the "eliminated" parties to stick around and help their respective sides. Fitchett got insane airtime on his dives out of the ring...would like to see him more often at shows with more ceiling clearance.

The main event was a fun brawl with blood on both sides. Corbin took a sick brainbuster onto a set-up chair near the end of the match. I got an odd laugh out of the small package finish after all the plunder usage leading up to it...heh.

-----

Onward to SICW!

Didn't look up the admission price before going to the show so it surprised me a bit...good thing the ticket window took my debit card as I didn't have enough cash on me. I got there early enough that I could have made a quick run to an ATM, at any rate...

Ben Simon and Drew Abbenhaus split the ring announcing duties. The dressing room was on the far side of the stadium so the wrestlers had to be literally carted to the ring area.

Tony Raze surprised me by pulling off a second-rope moonsault...don't see that every day from a guy of his size.

The Grizzlies Grand Master Tournament seemed to be set up to establish a future title contender...with a heel champion, that meant Gary and Ricky were the favorites, but Flanagan was the winner at the end of the night. Very interesting...but then Ken Kasa has ticked off both faces and heels with the way he won the title.

I would call Shorty Biggs a tag team specialist as he's had a lot of different partners in his career. He's currently Dynamo Tag Champ with Outtkast and MECW Tag Champ with Chris Logan, but he's also teamed with Dice, Joker. C.J. McManus, Jackal, Sean Vincent, Gary Jackson, etc....now add Adam Raw to the list. Raw and Rudolph were the two guys that I saw at both shows this past weekend.

Ron Powers got the big entrance of the night on his motorcycle alongside his biker friends...he was the clear favorite in this heel-vs.-heel bout. Travis Cook offered him a "retirement chair" but he was having none of that. Kasa used more aerial offense in this rare case of being the smaller guy in the match...but it wasn't quite enough to get him the win. Vaughn was a bit late to save his manager from Powers' piledriver, so Travis was in a neckbrace later in the night for the main event.

Good false finish with Vaughn and Travis initially cheating to win, but the legends got the match restarted and Chaz got the real win. Chaz dropkicked Texan out of the ring and threw him over the guardrail to the lower deck, then teased a dive off the top rope(!) but Texan didn't get up fast enough for it to happen...aww.

Unfortunately the barber chair was too heavy to get into the ring so the deed had to be done at ringside, meaning it was tough to see unless you were right there...plenty of pictures were taken, though. Travis left without hair, without an eyebrow, and covered in shaving cream...

-----

A few notes from around the indy scene: Metro Pro Wrestling is reportedly going on hiatus, possibly for good. I'd heard nothing but good things about their group and product; hope they can restart down the line. Will need to pull up their TV episodes on YouTube sometime. Haven't seen full results yet, but it looks like Jeremy Wyatt regained the Heavyweight Title in the dog collar match with Adam Pearce and the Kobra Kai Dojo(Davey Vega & Mat Fitchett) teamed with Dingo to win the Tag Titles from The Commission(champions Evan Gelistico & Pierre Abernathy along with Gary Jay).

MMWA shuffled things around a bit on Saturday. A.J. Williams won the T.V. Title from Jimmy D and then forfeited the Jr. Heavyweight Championship he already held, resulting in Andrew Wilder defeating J-Mal Swagg for the vacant Jr. Title later in the night. Also, Mephisto won the Battle Royal Title previously held by Raphael King. Gary Jackson had a full evening as he worked both the SICW show and the MMWA show in the same night.

The rest of August looks like this:

Saturday 8/17: SICW in East Carondelet
Saturday 8/31: CSCW in Cahokia
