Dynamo Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Tuesday night's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at Off Broadway in St. Louis, Missouri.

The most recent Dynamo show in Glen Carbon really shook things up; the Heavyweight Title changed hands and the Tag Team Titles were held up. Only two matches were announced for this show. The event flyer had pictures of Dan Walsh and Kevin X(who weren't there) as well as Jake Dirden, Ace Hawkins, Brandon Gallagher, and Lucy Mendez(who didn't wrestle but was in Ricky Cruz's corner).

Note from WWE Raw: Reportedly Raphael King and Devyn Nicole were among the Rosebuds(along with NXT's Simon Gotch)...cool that they got a spot on the big show.

Your ring announcer was Chris Roedel(with Ben Simon & Luke Roberts handling extra announcements), your referee was Patrick Hook, your sponsors were Stag Beer and Strange Donuts. Butterfinger-flavored doughnuts? You have my attention...

Brandon Aarons vs. Ace Hawkins(w/ Brandon Espinosa): Minor backstory in this one as Aarons & Espinosa were once tag partners and fought each other at the last Stratford Inn show. I wonder about the political aspects of Espinosa and Hawkins working multiple groups, especially in this case since Dynamo's Off Broadway shows are close to MMWA's home base at South Broadway. Obviously they're in different spots on the card in each group, but that's the case for a lot of people who work for multiple promotions. Espy had some minor interference spots, but Aarons finally kicked him away and got the win in 7:37 with a TKO-to-the-knee/close-range superkick combo. Aarons seems to have bulked up in recent months.

Mark Bland and Travis Cook had yet another verbal confrontation. I'm not aware of Travis' full wrestling history, so I can't confirm his statement that his proteges have never lost in best-of-three-falls matchups...I haven't seen it happen or heard of it happening, at any rate. While Cook does embellish the truth every once in a while, I'll take him at his word on this one.

Rocket Mapache vs. Brandon Espinosa: Hawkins was absent from ringside, something that troubled Espinosa greatly. Mapache tried to psyche out Espy with his unorthodox style...it seemed to work as Espinosa demanded that his opponent be tested for rabies. This prompted a "Rabies" chant from the fans...that's probably a first. The second half of the match was mostly a bearhug by Espinosa, something I don't normally see him use. Finish saw SHENANIGANS~! as Espy rolled through a cross-body off the top rope and hold the tights for the win in 10:07.

Everett Connors vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher: Gallagher took credit for Dan Walsh's absence and said Gary Jackson didn't want to face him again, so he issued an open challenge and Connors came out as his opponent. Gallagher was about to make short work of him when "Dirdey" Jake Dirden hit the ring...Gallagher threw Connors into Dirden, provoking Dirden's wrath and seemingly kickstarting an impromptu handicap match.

"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher & Everett Connors: Dirden was in a bad mood due to his title loss and wanted to beat SOMEBODY up on this night. The match alternated between Gallagher grudgingly working together with connors and Gallagher blatantly throwing Connors into the line of fire. Gallagher finally took a walk and left Connors to be throttled to the mat and pinned...no match time was announced as it wasn't clear that this was an official bout. Did think Connors was up fairly quickly after taking Gallagher's finisher(which is essentially a modified BACKDROP DRIVER), but that's hardly exclusive to one person on the independent scene or even the wrestling world as a whole. (Side note: If Gallagher did his finisher off the top rope, would it be the Champagne Supernova In The Sky? *runs*)

The Bumrush Brothers(Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) vs. The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook) for the held-up Tag Team Titles: The show had fewer matches than usual, which seems to be par for the course on these Tuesday night events...on top of that, the Tag Title match got a lot of time due to the stipulation. Travis had no time for his usual introductions as the teams started fighting right away. The match went fifteen minutes before the first fall, after which the final two falls took place in less than five minutes. Pin combos were exchanged before Shorty small-packaged DeLorean at 15:10 for the first fall. The second fall happened about a minute afterwards as Travis got involved and DeLorean rolled up Shory with the tights to even it up. Mark Bland ejected Travis from ringside but he re-entered through the entrance door as Bland and the security guys were watching the aisleway. That allowed him to sneak in a chain and Magnuson KOed Outtkast for the final win at 19:26...the Warriors are now two-time Dynamo Tag Champs while still holding the WLW Tag Titles.

"The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz(w/ Lucy Mendez) vs. "The American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph for the Heavyweight Title: Rudolph has made himself the poster boy for the Off Broadway sponsors; he entered wearing a Stag cap and even paused during the match to try out some Strange Donuts. Fox 2 News' April Simpson was in the house for the second straight Off Broadway show; she was covering the event along with former GCW commentator "The Grand Poobah" Brian Ledford. April teased a confrontation with Lucy after Lucy interfered a few times; is there a potential storyline in the works? Rudolph made a late comeback, but Lucy grabbed his foot as he climbed the turnbuckles. That allowed Cruz to hit a hanging neckbreaker(a variation of his usual swinging fisherman buster finisher) for the win in 9:39(?). Dirden stormed the ring, but Cruz threw Lucy in front of him so he could make his escape. Dirden and Rudolph held the high ground to end the show on a semi-high note...lot of heel wins on this night.

This seemed like a lower-key show than the previous one(due to the lack of a slam-bang hardcore match)...it may not have helped that the Cardinals were playing a home game against the Yankees last night. Ah well...

Saturday has the debut show for Pro Wrestling Championship Series in Granite City at the Tri-City YMCA(not The River's Edge) as well as WLW's first show at their new home base in Troy, Missouri...so two choices in the general St. Louis area. June looks to be a full month for wrestling shows...I'll do my best to keep you posted.

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

Tuesday Dynamo Pro Wrestling Results From St. Louis, MO(Off Broadway) + This Week In Wrestling

-Brandon Aarons d. Ace Hawkins(w/ Brandon Espinosa) after a TKO onto the knee followed by a close-range superkick (7:37).
-Executive Director Mark Bland hyped the show and got into a confrontation with Travis Cook...Travis claimed that none of his proteges had ever lost a best-of-three-falls match.
-Brandon Espinosa d. Rocket Mapache by rolling through a cross-body off the top rope and holding the tights (10:07).
-Everett Connors vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher ended in a no-contest; Gallagher hit the Champagne Supernova(cradle backdrop driver) early in the match but "Dirdey" Jake Dirden hit the ring and it turned into an impromptu handicap bout.
-"Dirdey" Jake Dirden d. "The Alternative Brandon Gallagher & Everett Connors in a handicap match; Gallagher kept throwing Connors into Dirden, causing the rookie to take the lion's share of the abuse. Gallagher finally walked away from the match, leaving Connors to be throttled to the mat and pinned by Dirden (no match time announced).
-The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook) d. The Bumrush Brothers(Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) in a best-of-three-falls match to win the held-up Tag Team Titles. The Bumrush Brothers won the first fall when Shorty small-packaged DeLorean at the 15:10 mark. Shortly after that, Travis interfered with a double suplex attempt by the BRBs on Magnuson, allowing DeLorean to roll up Shorty with a handful of tights (no fall time announced). Bland ejected Travis from ringside and had security stationed in the aisleway as the match broke down into a brawl...but Travis snuck back in the building through the front door and threw a chain in to Magnuson. Magnuson knocked out Outtkast with the chain and got the final fall in 19:26, making the Black Hand Warriors two-time Dynamo Tag Team Champions!
-Ricky Cruz(w/ Lucy Mendez) d. "The American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph to retain the Heavyweight Title. Fox 2 News' April Simpson made her way to ringside after Lucy interfered in the matchup, attempting to even the odds. However, Lucy grabbed Rudolph's foot as he climbed to the top rope...the distraction allowed Cruz to hit a hanging neckbreaker for the win (9:39). Jake Dirden hit the ring after the bell and fought with Cruz, but Cruz escaped from the ring before any major damage was done...

WWE Raw

-Commentators: Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-Chief Operating Officer Triple H and Stephanie McMahon-Helmesly fired General Manager Brad Maddox for allowing Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose to be guest commentars for last week's Seth Rollins-Batista match. They brought out Kane to chokeslam and Tombstone Maddox...and Stephanie fired Maddox after that.
-Antonio Cesaro(w/ Paul Heyman) d. Rob Van Dam via German suplex; Intercontinental Champion Wade "Bad News" Barrett did commentary and RVD kicked him when he tried to interfere, leading to the finish. U.S. Champion Sheamus O'Shaunessy ran in to level Cesaro with a Brogue Kick after the match.
-Eva Marie(w/ Nikki Bella) d. Summer Rae; Johnny Fandango & Layla El made a big entrance to dance and make out, leading to Eva rolling up Summer for the pin.
-El Torito(w/ Los Matadores) d. Drew McIntyre(w/ Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal, & Hornswoggle); Fernando & Diego distracted Drew from a superplex attempt, leading to Torito knocking Drew off the turnbuckles and pinning him. The members of the 3-Man Band surrounded Torito in the ring and Hornswoggle hit Torito from behind, then ripped the tail off his costume.
-Bray Wyatt and his family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) called out Jerry Lawler for "spreading propaganda" for John Cena...they even laid out JBL when he tried to intervene. John Cena ran in for the save but was held off by Harper & Rowan...finally Tag Team Champions Jimmy & Jey Uso hit the ring to even the odds and they cleared the ring of the Wyatts.
-Alexander Rusev(w/ Lana Perry) d. Zack Ryder with the Accolade(camel clutch). Big E Langston made the save when Rusev didn't release the hold right away.
-Randy Orton & Batista d. The Brotherhood(Cody Rhodes & Goldust) in a no-holds-barred elimination match(though the stipulation wasn't announced until after the first elimination). Orton countered Cody's Beautiful Disaster kick with a mid-air RKO, then delivered a second RKO before pinning him. That left Goldust alone against the two members of Evolution; he took a spear from Batista, an RKO, and finally a Demon Bomb before Batista pinned him.

Triple H had announced that all "unofficial" parties were barred from ringside, then made himself guest ring announcer and Orton guest timekeeper. SICW Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling show at the Community Center in East Carondelet, Illinois.

Unfortunately Bobby "The Brain" Heenan officially cancelled a few days before the event; however, he was rescheduled for the June 21st show. He had been hurt in a fall several weeks ago and promoter Herb Simmons posted on Facebook that he might not be able to attend the show, so he booked Jim Cornette to appear one way or the other.

The announced lineup stood otherwise; I'm pretty sure The Giant Assassin was mentioned as appearing at some point, but he wasn't there. As expected, they had a strong turnout for the show(the Observer update said it was a turnaway record crowd of 350 people).

Kayfabe Poker Night compatriots Landon Meyer and Matthew Rude were in the house and Ringsyders co-host Drew Abbenhaus got to hang out with Cornette all night. Got to chat with Cornette a bit during and after the show, plus got my picture taken with him(thanks Matt!).

Your ring announcer was Ben Simon; your referees were Jay King, Keith Smith Jr., and Commissioner Keith Smith(for the battle royal).

The show officially started with Herb Simmons interviewing longtime local DJs Mad Maynard & Jackie McCoy...needless to say, they're both big wrestling fans as well. At a previous show, Jackie asked Harley Race to put her in a headlock to see how it felt...heh. One of my friends noted that Mad Maynard looks EXACTLY like someone who would go by "Mad Maynard". Max Archer interrupted, clearly frustrated over his lack of appearances in recent months...he didn't take kindly to all the special guests taking HIS time. Archer's past record with ring announcers isn't the best(see also: Jeff Vernetti)...that trend continued as he earned a slap from Jackie McCoy.

"The Man Of Tomorrow" Daniel Eads & Joker vs. Ax (Allwardt) & The Iceman (Howard Moritz): Ax has tangled with both Eads and Joker in recent months, thus this tag match with recent SICW arrival Iceman. The ten-minute time limit nearly expired, triggering a discussion with a friend about how wrestlers aren't used to working toward a draw. It's a good plot device for rulebreakers to stall out the clock(especially if there's a Television Title in play), but it's rarely used any more. With all the belts in play in MMWA, I feel like they should put a strict ten-minute limit on their T.V. Title defenses to distinguish it from the other championships...but that's just me throwing something out there. Anywho, Ax pinned Joker when Iceman clipped Joker during a slam attempt, causing Ax to fall on top for the pin in 8:45.

"The Old School Warrior" Chaz Wesson vs. Max Archer: Lo and behold, Jackie McCoy just happened to be the special guest ring announcer for this one. Archer was still holding his face from the earlier slap, good for him. This was a surprisingly quick one-sided bout, but then the whole show ran longer than usual. Chops were served on this night, as you might expect. My comment to Landon and Matt: "Yeah, that's Chaz Wesson. He kinda does that." Chaz didn't even wrap up with one of his usual finishers as he took the win with a powerslam in 1:20.

"Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) vs. "Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson(w/ Big Daddy) for the Classic Title: Seemed early for the title match, but Powers-Cruz got more hype(the battle royal was the actual finale). Travis was handcuffed to Big Daddy, a local managing legend who I've heard some great stories about. Travis tripped up Gary so Big Daddy(no stranger to rulebreaking) retaliated by grabbing for Kasa's foot. The distraction led to a series of pin combos until Kasa small-packaged Jackson out of a Texas Cloverleaf attempt to edge out a win in 11:00. Gary's post-match promo seemed to hint at a departure or retirement, but he was just saying that he would have to work his way back up the ladder for another title shot. RULES~!

After the first intermission, Herb interviewed Jim Cornette. I wasn't the only one waiting for Travis Cook to stick his nose into the proceedings, but this segment went without an interruption...be patient, grasshopper.

Big Jim Hoffarth vs. Waco: The former Big Texan and Waco had issues leading up to Hoffarth's mask loss to Gary Jackson, leading to Waco turning on his then-tag partner...Waco had been MIA for a few months and they finally had their blowoff here. They got a surprising amount of time but they did a good job with it; Waco focused his attack on the arm to neutralize Hoffarth's power advantage. Hoffarth came back to win with the big splash in 10:43(!), then added a double-underhook powerbomb for good measure...why not?

"The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs vs. Flash Flanagan: Flanagan got a cheap win over Jake Dirden last month, so it seems like he'll remain in the title picture for the moment. Shorty may be a Tag Champ in Dynamo but he doesn't seem to win much elsewhere. Good matchup, at any rate; Shorty's extremely underrated. There was a great comedy spot where Shorty did a series of Junkyard Dog-style headbutts, causing Flash to retreat on all fours...and accidentally crotch himself on the ringpost. Ha ha. Flanagan took it with a Buff Blockbuster in 9:56.

"Dirdey" Jake Dirden & Heath Hatton vs. Bull Bronson & Frankie "The Thumper" Wyatt: Where's the beef? There's the beef. Dirden and Hatton are both gunning for Kasa's title but they had a couple of huge roadblocks in their way. Trying to think if this was the first time teaming for both sides; pretty sure it was. Bronson and Wyatt could be a great monster duo and they worked pretty well together. Random DQ finish at 9:23 when Wyatt threw Heath over the top rope, but he got back in with a chair to run off the big guys. (Minor edit: It was Bronson who threw Hatton out of the ring for the DQ.) His night would not be over, of course...

Ron Powers vs. Ricky Cruz, no-DQ loser-leaves-town match: They amended the stipulation to say that the loser would be gone from SICW for the rest of 2014, for the sake of clarity. I know one of my colleagues is adamant about how this particular stipulation never sticks. This feud WAS the SICW Classic Title picture for about a year...Ricky had issues with Ron dating back to Puerto Rican wrestling. Ron claimed he was "a different person" at that time, but the feue escalated until Cruz finally defeated him for the title. Ron gradually changed his targets to the other rulebreakers and the fans got on his side...something that presumably didn't sit well with Ricky after all Ron had done to him. On Ricky's side of things, he lost the title to Kasa under dubious circumstances and it took him months to get one rematch...a rematch that he won by DQ after a blatant low blow. His frustration mounted and he felt he was owed more opportunities...leading to his turn on Powers when he guest-refereed a match with Flanagan.

Things broke down in a hurry as several outside parties got involved(no-DQ!)...first it was Flanagan(leading to Jim Hoffarth running him off), then it was Kasa and Bronson. Is Bronson a member of the Travis Cook Organization now? It was inconclusive at the show itself, but I think Travis has scouted the big man in the past. The finish saw Powers turn his attention to Cook in a match with his immediate career at stake...then he fell prey to the same cheap superkick that led to his downfall in the Flanagan match where Ricky was the ref. It was tough to predict how this would turn out...especially if one looked at the bigger picture. Would Ricky lose here to focus on his newly-won Dynamo Pro Wrestling Championship? Also, Cruz had been demanding another title shot and had a mini-confrontation with Kasa and Cook after the match...maybe that's in the near future.

Travis had a lot to gloat about on this night...his champion retained his title and he took full credit for "running Ron Powers out of town". With his ego at an all-time high, he called out Cornette...resulting in an epic verbal exchange despite one of the microphones not working too well. Kasa ran in to hold Cornette back...but Hatton made the save before Cook could turn Cornette's own tennis racket against him. Heath got Kasa out of the way and Cornette gave Travis a good whack across the back with the racket...most tremendous. Cornette raised Heath's hand...wonder if he'll be a favorite in our main event?

Battle Royal: This featured everyone on the card besides Kasa, Gary, Ricky, and (obviously) Powers. I did my best to keep track of eliminations...as did Ben before his microphone went out for good. Therefore, I'll take his word on Archer and Joker's eliminations since I didn't see them happen in the crowd of humanity. One plot point saw Flanagan lock up with Hoffarth and eliminate him, leading to Hoffarth pulling Flash out of the ring from the floor. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new feud! Bronson and Wyatt ruled the ring for most of it; they eliminated Dirden and Eads, leaving Hatton two-on-one against the duo. Heath took advantage of a miscommunication to get Wyatt out of the ring, then low-bridged the charging Bull to eliminate him for the win. Woo.

Okay...a lot's been set up for the near future. Ricky's been promised a title shot, but he'll tell you how that could go. Heath certainly has a lot of momentum for a championship opportunity plus a little bit of backstory from his near-miss in Caseyville. Dirden's always in contention as well...so they could go in a few directions from here.

This coming weekend has nothing local, amazingly enough...I may get some sleep or something.

-New time limit setup in Anarchy: All matches will have a fifteen-minute limit with potential for two five-minute overtime periods.
-Mike Posey d. "The Southern Savior" John Skyler with the Alabama Jam (9:03 aired). Posey demanded another shot at Mikael Judas' Heavyweight Title; since Posey previously beat Judas by countout, he wanted the stipulation that the title could change hands by countout. Promoter Franklin Dove granted that requested...but made it no-DQ as well.
-Mikey Watkins & Jeremy Foster d. "Hit For Hire" Bobby Moore & The Laredo Kid; Moore hit his own partner with the loaded elbowpad, leading to Watkins pinning Kid after a corkscrew swanton bomb (6:20 aired).
-The Washington Bullets(Jon & Trey Williams) d. "The Real" Slim J & "Kool" Seth Delay to retain the Tag Team Titles. The match initially went to a fifteen-minute draw, leading to a rest period. The Bullets won in the first overtime when Trey rolled up Delay after Jon BELTed Seth (15:00 + 1:28). (Mental note: Trey is the one with the tattoos.) Post-match, The Urban Assault Squad(Shadow Jackson & Nemesis) ran off the Bullets with nooses in hand.
-"Wrestling's Most Dangerous Weapon" Geter d. "The Deadly Sin" Se7en(w/ Agent/Attorney Jeff G. Bailey) with a belly-to-belly suplex (5:40 aired). Se7en attacked Geter with a cane and chair after the match.

-"Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) d. "Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson(w/ Big Daddy) to retain the Classic Title; Travis was handcuffed to Big Daddy.  Travis managed to trip up Jackson at one point, so Big Daddy retaliated by tripping Kasa.  Kasa and Jackson traded pinning combinations, but Kasa was able to counter a Texas Cloverleaf attempt into a small package for the three-count (11:00).

-Ricky Cruz d. Ron Powers in a no-DQ loser-leaves-town match.  Flash Flanagan ran in to attack Powers, but Ron fought him off...Powers hit the piledriver, but Flanagan pulled referee Keith Smith Jr. out of the ring and rammed him into the ringpost.  Jay King ran in to count a near-fall for Powers, then Jim Hoffarth arrived at the ringside area to run off Flash.  Later in the bout, Travis Cook sent Kasa and Bronson into the ring to seemingly attack both men; they fought off Kasa and Bronson, then Cruz encouraged Powers to piledrive Cook.  However, the loss of focus cost Powers as Cruz superkicked him and got the three-count! (8:23) Cruz, Cook, and Bronson waved goodbye as Powers left through the side door of the venue...
-Cook wasted no time in gloating over his accomplishments for the night, then turned his attention to Cornette at the merchandise table.  Cornette entered the ring with tennis racket in hand, leading to a lengthy war of words between the two managers.  Cornette put down the racket and threatened to deal with Cook personally, but Ken Kasa hit the ring to hold Cornette back.  Cook prepared to attack Cornette, but Heath Hatton hit the ring to fight off Kasa!  With the champion out of the picture, Cornette whacked Cook down to the mat with his famous tennis racket!
-Heath Hatton won a fourteen-man battle royal (8:15).  Eliminations:  Max Archer, Joker, Waco, "The Iceman" Howard Moritz, Chaz Wesson, Ax Allwardt, Shorty Biggs, Big Jim Hoffarth, Flash Flanagan(Hoffarth had just been eliminated by Flanagan and pulled Flash over the ropes from the floor), Jake Dirden, Daniel Eads, Frankie Wyatt, and Bull Bronson.

Bailey) won a four-way match with "The Seven-Figure Deal" Ace Rockwell, "The Real" Slim J, and "Hit For Hire" Bobby Moore to retain the Young Lions' Title. The rules stated that the match would end if Tempers was involved in the decision, but any other decision would simply result in an elimination (removing the possibility of the champion losing his title without being pinned or made to submit). Dynamo Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about last Saturday's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at the Sports Academy in Glen Carbon, Illinois.

With my home internet access out of commission for several days, I was unable to post the results until my work break on Monday. My woefully-outdated computer went into the repair place on Sunday afternoon and I finally got a new one on Tuesday evening. One tends to take computer privileges for granted until they're temporarily taken away, it would seem.

Attendance was decent; there was some confusion over the start time as the Glen Carbon shows now begin at 7:00 for the Saturday events. I wasn't sure myself and had no good way of checking beyond my phone's internet hookup, so I just got there around 7:00.

Not much was announced ahead of time besides the title match. Dynamo had posted about a six-man tag with the Bumrush Brothers teaming with Jake Parnell against the Black Hand Warriors and Jack Gamble, but Gamble wasn't there(presumably at the NWA:CSCW show in Vienna, MO). Steven Kennedy posted about facing Mark Sterling and Bradley Charles and I ass/u/med it was a triple threat, but it was a tag bout with Brandon Aarons as his partner.

Your ring announcer was Chris Roedel(with Luke Roberts providing announcements); your referees were Patrick Hook and Michael Crase(who had a long night).

Rocket Mapache vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher: If you want to do the math, "mapache" is Spanish for raccoon. I'd call this more of a comeback than a debut and I feel like I'm saying too much right there. Gallagher had a winning streak going until his loss to Gary Jackson at Off Broadway last month...he's hit the skids since that match. Mapache got the surprise win with a La Majistral cradle...no match times for this show, sorry.

"The Littlest Viking" Jake Parnell vs. Jackal: Seemed odd to do a battle of fan favorites...but then the Black Hand Warriors broke things up for the no-contest. That brought out Alexandre Rudolph, then Ken Kasa, and finally the Bumrush Brothers to set up matches later in the show.

Billy McNeil vs. Mike Sydal: This played out as another battle of fan favorites, though Sydal has been a good heel elsewhere. Billy once teamed regularly with Sydal's brother Matt in Gateway Championship Wrestling and they had crossed paths in other bouts before(including a triple threat with SBC in MECW), but this was their first one-on-one meeting. Two La Majistral finishes in the first three matches...just saying. Handshake afterwards; wouldn't mind seeing these two face each other again in the future.

Steven Kennedy & Brandon Aarons vs. "The Fittest Wrestler On Earth" Mark Sterling & Showtime Bradley Charles: In terms of tag team experience, the new duo of Kennedy & Aarons were in an uphill battle against the Kansas City Killers...though Kennedy and Aarons had past success with other partners. Teamwork was what led to the finish as Sterling broke up Kennedy's Lionsault and SBC got the win with his TKO finisher.

"The American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph vs. "Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook): It's rare to see Kasa in a ring other than SICW's. The schmozz finish resulted in a DQ win for Kasa; Rudolph got caught with the spiked facemask that Kasa had brought into the ring(and used behind the ref's back). Parnell got involved and Travis took some serious post-match abuse as a result...owie.

"Walking Reality" Dan Walsh vs. "The Belt Collector" Jeremy Wyatt: These two crossed paths last year when Walsh was champion, but Wyatt's been on a roll since winning the Dynamo Rumble in February. He had back-to-back title shots at Jake Dirden with controversial finishes to each match; now he's loosely aligned with Ricky Cruz as rulebreakers screwed by the resident authority figure(Executive Director Mark Bland). Wasn't sure how this one would go, but Wyatt continued his recent tactic of destroying the leg to set up his version of the Sicilian crab. That resulted in a rare tapout from Walsh as Wyatt scored a big win...but with the title changing hands, will he still be looking for a shot at the gold?

The Bumrush Brothers("The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) vs. The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook) for the Tag Team Titles: To his credit, Travis powered through the introduction for his team after taking Parnell's 450 Splash off Rudolph's shoulders earlier in the night...he's a trooper! Magnuson & DeLorean defeated Shorty and Evan "Money" Morris in January, then ended the BRBs' 22-month reign in February. Shorty & Outtkast regained the belts in April and this was the Warriors' first rematch for the belts. After the lengthy initial title reign, the belts have been in turmoil for the first part of the year...and now they're held up due to the double-pin finish. Crase was knocked down and Mark Bland sent in Hook to officiate. At the end of the match, Magnuson pinned Outtkast after the Vertebreaker, but Shorty was pinning DeLorean after the Shortcut at the same time...each ref counted a pin and I forget who was legal. I think Kast was legal for his side but I'm not sure who was legal for the Warriors. Travis Cook maintains that Michael Crase was the original referee for the bout and he counted Magnuson's pin(while Patrick Hook counted Shorty's pin), so his decision should stand.

A few days after the event, Bland ruled that the situation would be resolved at the next Off Broadway show on May 27th; the teams will meet in a best-of-three-falls matchup.

"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. Ricky Cruz(w/ Lucy Mendez) for the Heavyweight Title: Cruz had been pushing for a title shot since last year; he lost to Dirden under questionable circumstances and then lost his title shot against then-champion Walsh thanks to Dirden's involvement. All of these frustrations combined with his issues in SICW led to his turn to the dark side...Bland told him to work his way back up the ladder, so he compiled a pretty good winning streak to earn this shot. As it turned out, this match was full of shenanigans as well...Hook was knocked down early and Luke Roberts helped him to the backstage area, leaving free reign for Cruz, Lucy, and even Wyatt to do whatever they wanted. Michael Crase probably thought his night was over, but he finally made his way out to the ring to restore some semblance or order. Wyatt was able to strike with both a chair and the title belt at different times, leading to the shocking title change as Cruz added a completely superfluous middle-rope elbowdrop...Dirden had held the title since October and I didn't think he would drop it at this point.

The championship situation has really been shaken up in Dynamo...the big belt changed hands and the Tag Title situation is up in the air as well. Wonder if The Professionals(Mauler McDarby & Shawn Santel) will wonder why they didn't get a title shot instead of the Black Hand Warriors? Dynamo's schedule is full with Off Broadway, Stratford Inn, and Sports Academy shows in the near future...

Meanwhile at MMWA/South Broadway, Barackus won the Survivor Title from Webmaster Stevie K in a triple threat match that also involved Dave Osborne. Looked like a rough night to be a champion...I'll try to keep up on the matches via YouTube if I can't get to the shows.

NWA:Central States Championship Wrestling had a show on Saturday in Vienna, MO...haven't seen the recap of that show yet, but I'll keep you posted.

Upcoming:
-Saturday 5/18: SICW in East Carondelet(Bobby Heenan & Jim Cornette in the house)
-Tuesday 5/27: Dynamo at Off Broadway
-Saturday 5/31: PWCS in Granite City; WLW in Troy, MO

Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.
