Tye claimed that Roode's been running away from him and that prompted Roode to attack him from behind...Roode punctuated his attack with an elevated DDT on the entrance stage.
-Backstage: Dasha interviewed TM-61(Nick Miller & Shane Thorne) about their quarterfinal Dusty Classic match against Austin Aries & Roderick Strong. They said that they'd been a consistent team for years and Aries & Strong have only recently reunited. They reminded everyone that The Mighty Don't Kneel(tm).
-NXT Women's Champion Asuka Urai d. Thea Trinidad(non-title) via Fujiwara armbar (1:40). After the match, General Manager S. William Regal announced that he'd found Asuka's next challenger...Mickie James! Mickie appeared via TitanTron, saying she'd faced some of the best female wrestlers in the world and looked forward to stepping into the ring with Asuka at Takeover. For her part, Asuka was excited by the prospect of this new challenge...
-Backstage: Charly Caruso interviewed Paul Ellering and The Authors Of Pain(Akam Dhinsa & Rezar Selmani) about their Dusty Classic quarterfinal match against "No Way" Jose Valenzuela & Rich Swann. Ellering said Jose & Swann had a fine future ahead of them, but they would not advance in this tournament. Akam & Rezar added their two cents in notEnglish.
-Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament: WWE Cruiserweight Champion T.J. Perkins(subbing for the injured Hideo Itami) & Kota Ibushi d. Lince Dorado & Mustafa Ali when Perkins forced Ali to tap out to the TJP Clutch(crossed-leg kneebar) (7:59 aired).
-Next week: Jose & Swann vs. Authors Of Pain and Perkins & Ibushi vs. Sanity in the Dusty Classic quarterfinals.
Lucha Underground Season 3 Episode 8
-Commentators: Matt Striker & Vampiro.
-Backstage in promoter Dario Cueto's office: Gift Of The Gods Champion Sexy Star paid a visit, saying that neither he nor his brother scared her. She was cashing in her title for a shot at Heavyweight Champion Matanza Cueto on next week's show...Dario granted her request, but reminded her that she has a title defense against Johnny Mundo tonight. Sexy Star confidently stated that Mundo would be a good "warmup" for her...and Dario told her that Trios Champions Fenix, Drago, & Aero Star were banned from interfering under the threat of banishment from the temple. Sexy Star was undaunted, saying that Dario had better be ready to crown her the first female Lucha Underground Champion.
-Marty Martinez(w/ Mariposa) d. Ivelisse Velez with a modified full nelson slam (4:18). Jeremiah Gray ran in to attack Martinez and Mariposa after the match, but the numbers caught up to him until Ivelisse returned to the ring to assist her significant other. Despite their success, Ivelisse didn't seem happy with Jeremiah's involvement in her business.
-Coming soon: The Rabbit Tribe...and one of them is Paul London!
-Backstage: Ivelisse told Jeremiah that she didn't want him involved in her business...but Jeremiah said that he got a great offer from Dario to join the roster. Ivelisse grudgingly accepted the situation, but said she would kick his ass if they ever had to fight each other...
-Outside the temple: Dario entered a limousine to speak to Councilman Delgado...they talked about "his descension" and "the next host body". Dario said he had two potential hosts in mind (referring to Brian Cage and El Texano Jr.)...and Delgado presented him with a mysterious box.
-Match 3 Of Best-Of-5 Series: El Texano Jr. d. Brian Cage by countering a suplex attempt into a small package pin (7:36).
-Backstage in Dario's office: Dario hid the mysterious case before allowing Rey Misterio Jr. to enter the room. Rey said that he may not be around the temple for much longer...he vowed to end things with Chavo Guerrero Jr. one way or the other. Next week(approved by Dario): Rey vs. Chavo in a loser-leaves-town match.
-Johnny Mundo d. Sexy Star to win the Gift Of The Gods Title; Jack Evans & P.J. Black interfered after the referee was knocked down, but Sexy Star still kicked out of Mundo's pin attempt when a second official entered the ring. Black & Evans took out the second ref, allowing the Worldwide Underground trio to continue their three-on-one abuse; Willie Mack finally intervened on Sexy Star's behalf and took out all three men with Stone Cold Stunners. Sexy Star bashed Mundo with a chair and the first referee revived to count...two. Evans & Black ganged up on Mack as the match continued, but the referee stopped him from using the chair. As the referee fell back to the mat while pulling the chair out of Johnny's grasp, Mundo decked Sexy Star with brass knuckles and that finally put her down for the three-count (11:30).
-Backstage: Prince Puma crossed paths with Vampiro again...Vampiro told him that his win over Mil Muertes was a great first step, but he reminded him about Mil disposing of his mentor Konnan by locking him in a casket. Puma noted that Vampiro was no friend of Konnan's either, but Vampiro said he had always respected Puma despite hating Konnan. Vampiro told him that the only way to truly end things with Muertes was to beat him at his own game: Grave Consequences.

Dynamo Special Comment
Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at 4 Hands Brewery in St. Louis, Missouri.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
Job update: I'm learning how to organize my work schedule, so hopefully I'll be able to get to more local rasslin shows in the near future. I hated to miss last weekend's Dynamo show, especially Angelina Love vs. Angelus Layne...hopefully I will get to see the video of the event in the near future. The job is an adventure and rarely boring, but health insurance would be nice.
While I had to work on Saturday evening, Dynamo's second annual offering from 4 Hands Brewery was an afternoon affair; thus, I was able to attend and go straight to my job from there. The wrestling festivities were on the opposite side of the building and it wasn't quite as hot as last September. The show was divided into two halves and a few people worked twice; some wrestlers had evening bookings and had to leave ASAP, so they worked earlier in the day. (Ricky Cruz wrestled for New Breed Wrestling in Eldon, MO that night).
The band stage played continuous music throughout the matches; I think this was done at last year's 4 Hands show as well. It was a unique environment, but I don't know if it was the best idea or not. The show did draw a good amount of fans(more than last year), so that was a plus.
Your ring announcers were Chris Roedel & Luke Roberts; your referees were Scott Ramsey, Jay King, & Richard White.
Brandon Aarons vs. "The Incredible Primal Prodigy" Matt Kenway (Look At Him): I figured the matches on this show would be shorter than usual; hopefully I'll get to see these guys face each other in a longer bout in the future. Kenway had a fine effort in this opener, but Aarons won with the close-range superkick in 3:52.
Mike Outlaw vs. "The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz for the Heavyweight Title: As previously noted, Ricky was wrestling in Eldon that evening so this match was positioned in the first half of the show. With no matches announced ahead of time, it was a surprise for a major match like this to get very little build; Outlaw won his first Dynamo Championship from Cruz about two years ago. It was a battle of fan favorites, but Ricky went into rulebreaker mode to unify the crowd on Outlaw's side. It was a condensed version of their previous bouts, ending with Outlaw scoring a rollup pin out of nowhere in 8:57. After the match, Ricky acknowledged that he plans to retire at the end of the year, but he had a hand in training Outlaw and is proud of what he's accomplished.
Straps Down University("The Valedictorian" Keon Option & Justin D'Air) vs. Alpha Class("The Millenial" Danny Adams & Paco Gonzalez) for the Tag Team Titles: After a long chase for the belts, Option & D'Air defeated The Professionals(Shawn Santel & Mauler McDarby) last week to earn another championship opportunity and then defeated High Level Enterprise(Jack Gamble & Jon Webb) for the titles. Hope to see a longer match between these two teams down the line; the SDU pairing won their first title defense after an Option wheelbarrow drop/D'Air Codebrekaer combo allowed Option to pin Adams in 5:28.
Brandon Espinosa vs. Makaze for the MWR Missouri Title: Three title matches were advertised for the day, though it would turn out to be four(more on that later). Despite their respective longevities in this wrestling scene, I'm pretty sure this was the first-ever meeting between these two. This was another bout which was a condensed version of their capabilities, so hopefully they'll cross paths again in the future. Makaze rallied and Espy bailed out of the ring to catch a breather...and bring his championship belt into play. As the referee tried to separate the two on the ropes, Espinosa clocked the masked man with the title and the official didn't see it. Espy capitalized with the double-underhook brainbuster for the win in 5:38.
The announcers segued into intermission mode, but Jake Dirden made his way to the ring and Luke Roberts headed for the hills. Dirden was cranky and threw out an open challenge, getting an answer from his former tag team partner...
Jackal vs. "Dirdey" Jake Dirden: Dirden & Jackal defeated Ricky Cruz & Brandon Espinosa for the Tag Team Titles about two years ago, but Dirden turned on Jackal in their title loss to The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson, Dave DeLorean, & Jayden Fenix). That led to a pair of matches between the two; Dirden won the first, but Jackal scored an unlikely victory in the "I Quit" Match that followed. Dirden had a huge edge in size and power, but Jackal held the advantage in speed, agility, and experience. Dirden brought a chair into play and the ensuing chaos led to the referee being knocked down; Jackal took advantage of the situation to use the chair for an enhanced version of your typical spear. He took down Dirden with a Diamond Cutter, then added insult to injury with a Five-Knuckle Shuffle-style fistdrop for the shocking pinfall in 7:00! That result really caught me off guard and probably caused some of the more old-school types in the area to sense a disturbance in The Force...
Intermission(for real this time)~! Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm): One Strange Donut(not sure EXACTLY what kind; it had chocolate creme filling and a pretzel on top), one can of Sprite.
Jackal vs. C.J. Shine: Despite a pretty lengthy intermission(almost an hour), Shine had the advantage of being fresh by comparison to his opponent. Jackal had a tough fight with Dirden prior to the intermission, so that may have been a factor in the result of this match. Jackal's prior win meant that this was a bigger upset than it had been previously, as Shine defeated his more experienced opponent with a springboard dropkick in 6:40!
Rocket Mapache vs. La Apuesta: For the uninitiated, "La Apuesta" is Jack Gamble under a mask; he and Jon Webb("Juan La Telarana") had used the alter-egos to play mind games with The Professionals in a previous tag match. It's a badly-kept secret as Gamble & Webb wear their usual ring attire and have some conspicuous tattoos. The High Level Enterprise duo have been trending in a rulebreaking direction in recent months and snapped on the referee after their Tag Team Title loss the previous week. Randomly, this was the longest match of the afternoon; Apuesta brought a chair into the ring, but only to have a seat as he held Rocket in a chinlock. This tactic backfired as Rocket retaliated with a drop toehold to send Apuesta face-first into the chair. Apuesta recovered to score the win after a frog splash in 11:40(!), but Rocket got the better of a post-match fight and unmasked "Apuesta" to reveal Gamble's face to the crowd.
Makaze vs. Tag Team Champion "The Valedictorian" Keon Option: Both men had wrestled in the first half of the show, but one could argue that Makaze had the rougher outing (taking a title belt to the head from Espinosa as opposed to Option's tag match). This was another case where I'd like to see a longer match between the two; Option scored the victory after an axe kick in 5:21 and Makaze raised Option's arm after the bout.
Brandon Espinosa vs. Brandon Aarons for the MWR Missouri Title: Babewatch explodes! The two had teamed up as recently as the previous evening in High Risk Wrestling, but that had been their first match as a team in several years. I honestly don't know who will be the one to relieve Espy of the MWR Championship, but he wrestles all over the Midwest so it could go in any number of directions. As with the previous match, both men had prior bouts in the afternoon (though Aarons had more time to rest). Aarons gave Espy a run for his money here, scoring a near-fall after the close-range superkick that won him the opener. The two traded WWE finishers and counters (something which has become a hallmark of recent Espinosa matches)...Aarons went for an advanced curbstomp and Espinosa countered into an RKO (similar to the Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins match from a few WrestleManias ago). Espy capitalized on his advantage to deliver the double-underhook brainbuster for the win in 7:41, retaining his title for the second time that afternoon!
After saying my goodbyes, I headed off to my pizza delivery job for the evening...it was a rare Saturday night with no wrestling shows in the immediate area. The tips have been good and I've been able to pay my bills, at any rate.
I was able to get off work for this coming weekend; Pro Wrestling Championship Series returns to Granite City, IL on Saturday and Wrestling Over Everything has a tournament to crown its first champion at its Sunday show in Swansea.
A busy November looks like this:
-Friday 11/4: Pro Wrestling Epic in Brownstown, IL; World Powerhouse Wrestling in Jerseyville, IL
-Saturday 11/5: World League Wrestling in Troy, MO; Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling in Swansea, IL
-Saturday 11/12: Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance in St. Louis, MO
-Friday 11/18: St. Louis Anarchy in Alton, IL
-Saturday 11/19: Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling in East Carondelet, IL
-Sunday 11/20: Pro Wrestling Resurgence in Swansea, IL
-Saturday 11/26: Dynamo Pro Wrestling in St. Louis, MO (Ready Room)
That's my special comment for this, the forty-fourth wrestling show I've attended in the year 2016. Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

Comedy Part 731: Delivering The Jokes
Location: Helium Comedy Club
Emcee: Jeremy Hellwig
After: Lucas Hinderliter
Before: Hannah Streicher
It was the typical Tuesday night crowd for Helium's open-mic night, so I was able to use my usual line about the lack of audience members up front(joking that the restraining order is still in effect). I had some new lines regarding my current employment, so I'm getting some material about that aspect of my life. Wish I could make it to the Corner Keg show in Highland tomorrow night, but I've gotta work...such is the current state of my being. I do have a job interview tomorrow morning, so hopefully that goes well. Not sure what's next for me in terms of comedy, but I'll probably be at the Westport Funny Bone this coming Tuesday.

Comedy Part 730: I Still Do This
Location: Westport Funny Bone
Emcee: Jamie Fritz
After: Brannagan Brouk
Before: Nathan Orton
Since I've been working evenings, comedy open-mics have been more elusive than usual. Since I was off this evening, I made my way to the hallowed halls of the Westport Funny Bone for open-mic night. I didn't use all of the new jokes that I wanted to try, but I got a good laugh when I compared Brannagan and myself to a "before-and-after picture". The new job has been giving me plenty of opportunities for new experiences and joke ideas as a result, so that's a nice silver lining; my goal is still to be a feature act in the near future.

MMWA Special Comment
Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance show at the South Broadway Athletic Club in St. Louis, Missouri.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
I had to work last Saturday night, so I drove straight from my job to the SBAC and joined the show in progress. I arrived during the intermission, which was preceded by the St. Louis Wrestling Hall Of Fame ceremony; I will fill in the earlier blanks via YouTube. The attendance seemed to be slightly better than normal (and, as is often noted, normal attendance for South Broadway is something most independent promotions would love to have).
Your ring announcer was Ben Simon; your referees were Nick Ridenour and Jay King.
Big Jim Hoffarth vs. Barackus(w/ Sylvester J. Fox): The show opened with a battle of heavyweights and Barackus had a new manager in his corner; it didn't take long for Fox to draw the ire of the rowdy fans in attendance. Barackus impressively lifted Hoffarth into a fallaway slam at one point. Fox's interference backfired and Hoffarth was able to slam Barackus, but it only got him a near-fall. Barackus countered a chokeslam attempt with the claw, turning it into the clawhold Flatliner for the win in 6:49; the match was a lot better than I was expecting it to be, so kudos to them in that regard.
The Eternals(MWR Missouri Champion Brandon Espinosa & "The" Ace Hawkins) vs. The Raw Dogs("The Incredible Primal Prodigy" Matt Kenway (Look At Him) & "Freebird" Jason Roberts) for the Tag Team Titles: It had been scheduled to be Evan Gelistico teaming with Kenway, but Gelistico had other obligations so the newcomer Roberts took his place. Espinosa claimed that Hawkins was not in the building(he had been absent from MMWA for several months), but Ace ran to the ring and dove off the top rope onto Kenway & Roberts. As the lesser of two evils, Espinosa & Hawkins were the fan favorites by default against Kenway & Roberts...and they were the more experienced team by a comfortable margin. Espy took out everyone with a moonsault off the second rope, but Ace took exception to accidentally taking the brunt of the move...that led to a cheapshot by Roberts and the challengers took control on Hawkins.
Ace finally got away from the Raw Dogs long enough to make the hot tag to Espinosa...Espy cleaned house, but the referee got occupied with a fight between Hawkins and Roberts and missed a visual tapout when Espy caught Kenway in the cross-armbreaker. That led to another argument between the Tag Champs and the challengers took advantage once again. After several minutes of abuse, Espy cleared a path to make the tag but Hawkins walked out on his partner...Espinosa tried to fight but the numbers caught up to him. Kenway shoved Espy off the top rope, then Roberts delivered a released German suplex with Kenway adding a neckbreaker in mid-air! Roberts got the surprise pin on Espy after that double-team maneuver in 19:34...ladies and gentlemen, we have NEWWWWW Tag Team Champions!
"Risky Business" Everett Connors(w/ cardboard cutout of Justin Beiber) vs. J-Mal Swagg for the Jr. Heavyweight/Bieberweight Title: Swagg has a T-shirt that advertises his favorite things: Chicken and big women. (Yup, that's his thing.) Connors regained the title from Brandon Aarons in August and then cost Danny Adams the T.V. Title to Brian James later in the night; that led to a September tag match in which Adams & Swagg defeated James & Connors. Connors held onto the ref to conceal a mule kick to J-Mal's Swagg, then followed up with a Trouble In Paradise-style flying roundhouse kick for the win in 10:54.
"Da Bomb" Brian James vs. "The Millenial" Danny Adams for the T.V. Title: These two have battled over the Television Championship for most of the year; Adams won the title in July but James regained it a month later. This match had not yet been posted on YouTube at the time of this commentary, but Ben Simon informed me that Adams regained the title after the reverse Stunner in 7:19.
The St. Louis Wrestling Hall Of Fame inductions took place before the intermission. Kerry Von Erich's daughters Lacey(formerly of Total Nonstop Action) and Hollie accepted on behalf of their father and uncles Kevin & David. Lacey was emotional as she talked about her father, who passed away when she and Hollie were very young; she commented that her brief time in the wrestling business was an attempt on her part to understand her family. Longtime manager Big Daddy accepted on behalf of Big Bill Miller, who competed regularly in the Midwest during the 1960s. Another inductee was John Paul Henning, who was a major fan favorite in the St. Louis area and competed in the '50s and '60s. The final inductee was Wrestling At The Chase-era referee Charlie Venator.
During the intermission, Hawkins commandeered the microphone and challenged his former tag team partner Brandon Espinosa to an MWR Missouri Title match on November 12th. All righty then.
Official Ben Simon Concession Count: Cheeseburger and a Pepsi, since I hadn't had any dinner before work.
Kevin Lee Davidson vs. Da'Marius Jones: K.L.D. had won last month's King Of St. Louis Cup Tournament, entitling him to a shot at any championship in the MMWA at any time of his choosing. Jones hit his Paydirt finisher within a few minutes of the opening bell, but K.L.D. was able to kick out of the ensuing pin attempt. These guys work well together and had a good matchup, but Heavyweight Champion A.J. Williams stuck his nose into things at a key moment. Davidson fought him off, then decided to cash in his contract on the spot. I suppose that would have turned the match into a triple threat, but we'll never know as Jones clipped his knee and rolled him up with a handful of tights in 9:41. The contract remains valid, though...
Moondog Rover & Damion Cortess vs. "The Enforcer" Jimmy D & B.T. Daramola: I didn't see this bout as a proverbial "five-star" affair, but it wasn't intended to be. Rover and D have been fighting each other for the better part of this calendar year and the hostilities continued here. Jimmy D brought a chair into the fray and took out Cortess on the arena floor, but he was a bit late in breaking up Moondog's pin of B.T. after the World's Strongest Slam in 8:01. D took out his frustration on Moondog with the chair and got into another confrontation with Commissioner Jim Harris...D had been disregarding his previous stipulation match which had forced him to wear a dress during his matches. Jimmy D wanted a one-on-one match with Rover and the stipulation was set for November: Dog collar match!
A.J. Williams(w/ Da'Marius Jones) vs. "Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson for the Heavyweight Title: As Gary Jackson is a competitor with a notable fashion sense, I am starting a new feature here in the Special Comment: The Gary Jackson Fashion Watch. On this night, he sported a sleeveless purple robe with stars, along with purple trunks with gold fringe. Gary has been MMWA Heavyweight Champion on numerous occasions; the true number of title reigns has probably been lost to the ages. However, the 2.0 combo of Williams and Jones ended his most recent title reign in a triple threat match in June when Jackson tapped out to a double submission hold. That left the championship vacant, but Williams captured it in a scramble match in July. Jackson entered the King Of St. Louis Cup Tournament, but Jones eliminated him from the competition thanks to a low blow.
It seemed like a bad omen when Gary informed everyone of his RULES~! prior to the contest, similar to when Kane detonates his ringpost pyro before a match. Jackson had the experience advantage on the arrogant champion, but A.J.'s speed and agility allowed him to stay a step ahead of his challenger on a few occasions. Williams connected with his signature superkick, but went for one move too many and Jackson blocked a monkeyflip attempt...Gary dropped him to the mat with a modified spinebuster and hooked the Texas Cloverleaf, but Brian James came out to the ringside area to distract Jackson. I'm not sure what issue James has with Jackson, but Jackson abandoned the hold to confront James. The momentary loss of focus proved costly as Williams hit a second superkick, scoring an ill-begotten win in 7:49.
Enter Kevin Lee Davidson, King Of St. Louis Cup Tournament contract in hand. Williams was quick to back out of the ring, not wanting to take on a second challenger for the night. K.L.D. had something else in mind...he wanted to regain the title in a fair fight, so the title match would take place at the November show. Adding that to the dog collar match and the MWR Missouri Title bout, November 12th is shaping up to be a busy night at the South Broadway Athletic Club!
Myself and several others(including Ben Simon and a few of the wrestlers) hung out at the bar for a while after the show had concluded, but we didn't go out to eat on this night...I opted for my recent vice, random junk food from a convenience store close to home. It's a good thing my diet doesn't start until tomorrow...err...
As previously noted, my weekend schedule is a bit marred by my current employment...as it stands right now, I am working on Saturday night until 10:30 so any wrestling show attendance is unlikely. If I can trade shifts with someone or take off early, I will probably make my way to Glen Carbon, IL for Dynamo Pro Wrestling. Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling has its monthly offering in East Carondelet, IL that evening as well. The rest of October looks like this:
-Saturday 10/22: Dynamo Pro Wrestling in St. Louis, MO (4 Hands Brewery/afternoon show)
-Saturday 10/29: Pro Wrestling Championship Series in Granite City, IL
-Sunday 10/30: Wrestling Over Everything in Swansea, IL
That's my special comment for this, the forty-third wrestling show I've attended in the year 2016. Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.
