Comedy Part 383: W00T

Location: Westport Funny Bone
Emcee: Buzz Sutherland
After: Joe Lehnig
Before: Dan O'Sullivan

Cool to make the list tonight...saw some people at the Funny Bone that I hadn't seen there in quite some time. Really good crowd...that helped things out a lot. I need to get away from looking at my notes on stage, but I feel a need to do more new material lately. Haven't been getting as much stage time lately so I've been motivated to check out some different shows in the area...hope to branch out a bit more when I have the chance. Good set and I hope for more of the same at Comedy Etc. tonight...woo.

Comedy Part 382: Sleep O'Deprivation

Location: O'Malley's Irish Pub
Emcee: Max Fitzgerald
After: Max Fitzgerald
Before: J.C. Sibala

On a whim, I decided to check out the O'Malley's show on Monday night. Gotta get stage time where I can, right? Did a mix of older and newer jokes...shockingly, some worked and some didn't. Batting leadoff can be a tough spot and I was heckled by a couple of guys at the bar...no biggie, just wish I had more comebacks for that sort of situation. I'm on the list for Wednesday night at Comedy Etc....hoping I make the list at the Funny Bone tonight.

WWE Raw

-WWE Champion John Cena d. Jack Swagger(n/t) with the F-U.
-Mike Mizanin d. Kofi Kingston with the Skull-Crushing Finale. Kofi was an impromptu replacement for Rey Misterio Jr.(Miz attacked Rey before their scheduled match).
-WWE Champion(?) C.M. Punk d. Alberto Del Rio(w/ Ricardo Rodriguez)(n/t) with the Go 2 Sleep.
-Beth Phoenix d. Eve Torres with the Glam Slam. Beth cut a promo on bringing serious women's wrestling back to the forefront instead of the cutesy stuff that the recent divas have presented...this brought out Women's Champion Kelly K for a fight.
-Alex Riley d. U.S. Champion Dolph Ziggler(w/ Vickie Guerrero)(n/t) by DQ; Riley insulted Vickie during the match, leading to her entering the ring and slapping Riley right in front of the ref.
-"R-Truth" Ron Killings d. John Morrison with the Paydirt.
-The show was capped off by the contract signing for the undisputed WWE Title match at SummerSlam...C.M. Punk mentioned the names of recently-released WWE wrestlers like Vladimir Kozlov, Chris Masters, and David Hart Smith. Oh yeah, Triple H will be the special guest referee.

NWA Anarchy TV #289

Your hosts are Tim E.D. & John Johnson.

NWA North American Champion Shaun Tempers(w/ Bo Newsom) enlightens us. His first title defense will be against Steven Walters(who upset him not too long ago) but he fully intends to hang onto the belt. On to Bo and the legendary Small Package Challenge...Shaun ups the ante to a whopping $32 or so(Shaun admits he's not too good at math) and turns it into a "surprise" challenge, saying Newsom could challenge anybody at any time. Dan Wilson makes his entrance with Azrael in tow...he's proud of his former protege, but he's got other issues in the form of a former Reject...

Skirra Corvus vs. Azrael(w/ Dan Wilson): This would fall into the category of "unorthodox". Corvus does surprisingly well for himself, but he gets distracted by The Reverend and a springboard splash hits nothing but boot. Azrael spikes him with the Green Manalishi(w/ Two-Pronged Crown) and that's the ballgame. (Cradle Michinoku Driver...it looks like it sucks to be hit with it.)

Tommy Daniels & C.B. Gibson vs. The Ambassadors(Jacoby Boykins & Chris Mayne): John Johnson is content to call the action rather than be at ringside for his team. Tim E.D. notes Johnson's apprehension at any moment his team is not in control, of course. Johnson does vow that one of his men will win next week's Mega Rumble for a title shot of their choice...he's not shy about noting that they may just go after the Heavyweight Title(though the Tag Titles would be the obvious choice). Boykins pins Gibson after the powerbomb/backcracker combo and Johnson leaves the broadcast position to congratulate his team.

Jeff G. Bailey(w/ Heavyweight Title belt) enlightens us. Kimo was scheduled for the first title shot at Se7en but he's not there due to a death in the family. Bailey suspects cowardice instead, of course...then he moves on to Mikael Judas. If he gets a title shot, he'd better wear sunglasses since the lights are very bright when he's looking up at them.

Jacob Ashworth vs. Ty Tyson for the Young Lions' Title: Johnson admits some grudging respect for Ashworth(who relieved Johnson's protege Aden Chambers of the belt)...not too much, though. Tyson counters an Ashes-To-Ashes attempt with a mid-air armdrag but can't put Ashworth away. The champion is able to maneuver into his finisher(full nelson into a wheelbarrow faceplant) on the second try and that's enough for the pin to retain his title.

Billy Buck & Adrian Hawkins vs. Andrew Pendleton III & Bryan Cassanova: Whoops, time for our favorite independent wrestling game, Card Subject To Change(tm)...

Mikael Judas & Billy Buck vs. Andrew Pendleton III & Bryan Cassanova: No explanation is given for Adrian Hawkins' absence, but Buck doesn't seem to mind his replacement partner. AP3 and Cassanova have been aligned in recent weeks but I believe this is their first official matchup as a tag team. They utilize a smart strategy: Isolate Buck and stay the hell away from Judas. Pendleton turns down one attempt by Cassanova to tag, telling his partner to "earn his money"...hmm. Buck escapes a TKO attempt to hit a Samoan Drop...tag...and tag! Judas cleans house and chokeslams Pendleton, then BOOTs Cassanova. Judas hits El Crucifijo on Pendleton, but Buck wants the tag to finish the match...Judas collects Cassanova and does tag in Buck, setting him up for Buck's superkick for the win.

Next week: Shaun Tempers vs. Steven Walters for the NWA North American Title plus the Mega Rumble.

TNA Hardcore Justice

-Brian Kendrick won a triple threat match with Austin Aries and Alex Shelley to retain the X-Division Title; Aries hit Shelley with the brainbuster but Kendrick surprised Aries by hitting Sliced Bread #2 on him to drop him onto Shelley. Kendrick got the pin on Shelley after that.
-Tara Varon & Miss Brooke Tessmacher d. Sarita Stock & Rosita Fly(w/ Mexican America) to retain the Women's Tag Team Titles when Tara pinned Rosita after the Widow's Peak.
-Bound For Glory Series: "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero d. Brother Devon via rollup.
-Winter Lea(w/ Angelina Love) d. Mickie James to win the Women's Title after blinding her with red mist while Angelina distracted the referee.
-Bound For Glory Series: Tommy "Crimson" Mercer d. Rob Van Dam by DQ when Jerry Lynn broke up the pin after Crimson hit the Red Sky.
-A.J. Styles, Christopher Daniels, & Frankie Kazarian d. Phil Gunner, Scott Steiner, & Abyss when Styles pinned Abyss after a middle-rope springboard Pele Kick.
-Bully Ray d. Ken Anderson via low blow and rollup.
-Beer Money Inc. d. Mexican America(w/ Sarita Stock & Rosita Fly) to retain the Tag Team Titles; James Storm pinned Anarquia when Robert Roode shoved him off the top rope right into Storm's superkick.
-Kurt Angle d. Sting to win the Heavyweight Title. Hulk Hogan tried to interfere with a chair with the referee down, but Angle took it away, then hit Sting with it before delivering an Olympic Slam onto the chair and getting the pin.

Comedy Part 381: Groving Comedy

Location: Grove Deli
Emcee: Ben Flug
After: Andrew Topping
Before: Shaun Arredondo

Second week in a row at the No Name Comix show in Webster Groves...asked for a ten-minute set and according to my recorder I did around 8-9. Good times, dusted off some older material that I hadn't used in a while. Shaun even had a followup to my Chris Benoit joke...bwahahaha. Would like to make it out there more often...in fact, I need to check out more of the area shows since stage time at the major comedy clubs has become rather difficult to secure. Might check out the show at the Funny Bone tonight with Jimmy Dore.
