WWE Smackdown
-Commentators: Mauro Ranallo, Tom Phillips, David Otunga, & John Bradshaw Layfield.
-Becky Lynch d. Mickie James in a best-of-three-falls match. Mickie won the first fall after the jumping DDT (3:38 aired). Becky won the second fall via rollup (5:21 aired). Smackdown Women's Champion Alexa Bliss tried to interfere, but it backfired and Becky got the tapout victory with the Dis-Arm-Her(armbar submission) (6:43 aired).
-"The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles d. Luke Harper with the springboard forearm, despite the referee missing Harper's foot on the bottom rope (7:27 aired). Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon ordered the match to be restarted.
-"The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles d. Luke Harper after a springboard 450 Splash (1:08); during the brief restart, Harper attempted to superkick Styles outside the ring but leveled Shane by mistake.
-Dolph Ziggler d. Apollo Crews in a chair match after executing a drop-toehold that landed Crews throat-first onto the back of a set-up chair, then crotching Crews on the set-up chair for good measure (5:21 aired).
-WWE Champion Bray Wyatt addressed the fans at the end of the show, but he was interrupted by Randy Orton via satellite from the Wyatt Family compound. Orton revealed that he was conning Wyatt all along and declared that he would be taking his WrestleMania title shot after all...punctuating his statements by burning down the compound house.
-Next week: John Cena & Nikki Bella vs. James Ellsworth & Carmella Van Damme.
WWE 205 Live
-Commentators: Mauro Ranallo, Corey Graves, & Austin Aries.
-"The Scottish Supernova" Noam Dar(w/ Alicia Fox) d. Lince Dorado after the flying roundhouse kick (4:01); flowers were delivered to Alicia at ringside, presumably sent by "The Outlandish" Rich Swann. Afterwards, Dar claimed he was the one who had the flowers delivered.
-Aries interviewed Akira Tozawa about his feud with "The" Brian Kendrick...he wanted to fight Kendrick face-to-face, but Kendrick refused to fight on his terms.
-"The Premier Athlete" Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, & Ariya Daivari d. T.J. Perkins, Cedric Alexander, & Mustafa Ali when Nese pinned Perkins after the running knee in the corner (10:17).
-Cruiserweight Champion "The Man That Gravity Forgot" Adrian Neville addressed the fans to close the show...he directed his verbage at "The Extraordinary Gentleman" Jack Gallagher, which brought out his top contender. The war of words turned physical and the two fought...Gallagher got the upper hand and sent Neville over the ringside barricade with his flying dropkick.

Dynamo Special Comment
Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at the Mineral Springs Mall in Alton, Illinois.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
Dynamo had been in limbo for a few months with a lack of a steady venue (The Sports Academy in Glen Carbon is booked for soccer season). Also, several key roster members had departed for various reasons; Ricky Cruz had retired and Jake Dirden & Mike Outlaw had moved on to full-time spots with the National Wrasslin' League. It was time for newer faces to step up to the plate and make their mark.
The attendance was a good sign as the show had a really solid turnout...the event got a good plug at Glory Pro last Sunday. (Thanks Trina!) Hopefully this can turn into a consistent venue for the promotion.
Your ring announcers were Chris Roedel & Luke Roberts; your referees were Jay King, Scott Ramsey, & Richard White.
Tag Team Champion Justin D'Air vs. Jackal vs. Jayson Khaos vs. The Snitch: D'Air had been scheduled to team with "The Valedictorian" Keon Option in a title defense against The Professionals, but Option was absent for unknown reasons. D'Air had been wrestling sparingly in recent months due to a knee injury but appears to be back to full speed; however, the low ceiling made high-flying maneuvers a riskier option than normal. That didn't keep the competitors from the dive sequence that is traditional in a match such as this, capped off by a D'Air somersault plancha from the top rope onto the other opponents! D'Air got Khaos in the ring with Jackal and Snitch occupying each other on the floor. Khaos tried to roll away from D'Air's attempted top-rope move, but D'Air still landed the frog splash from three-quarters of the way across the ring for the victory in 12:49!
"The Wind Of Destruction" Makaze vs. Jack Gamble: Gamble & Jon Webb have walked the line between fan favorites and rulebreakers in Dynamo; this seemed to be a battle of fan favorites as Gamble threw Mardi Gras beads to the fans, but he adopted a more aggressive style once the match began. That solidified the fan support for the masked Wind Of Destruction; Gamble gave him a good fight and seemingly teased the use of a foreign object at one point, but Makaze rolled him up for the pin in 8:43.
The Troy Athletic Club("The Freestyle Phenom" Jay Howard & Roy Lewis) vs. The Professionals(Shawn Santel & Mauler McDarby): It had been a while since I'd seen the T.A.C.; stablemate "The Natural" J.A. Fair was in attendance but didn't appear in an official capacity. Howard has been busy in Missouri promotions, currently holding the High Risk Wrestling Heavyweight Title and also holding the NWA Missouri Title until recently. It was noted to me that Dynamo Pro is one of the only area promotions with active Tag Team Titles (the World League Wrestling and Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance Tag Championships are both vacant), so Dynamo is the place to go for tag team competition in the Midwest. Hopefully we'll see a good feud between Straps Down University(Option & D'Air) and The Professionals once Option returns to action. The finish saw Santel run Howard into the ringpost on the floor; the referee turned his attention to that situation, allowing McDarby to KO Lewis with brass knuckles for the cheap win in 10:48. (HEEL~!)
"The Roman Dynasty" Karim Brigante(w/ Miss Monica Passeri) vs. Jayden Fenix: The Italians were fan favorites for the night, notably. The Black Hand Warriors are no more with Michael Magnuson and Dave DeLorean out of the picture, so Fenix has sole rights to their theme music...bwahahaha. Fenix isn't as much of a gentleman as his alter-ego Dominick Butler professes to be as he put his hands on Monica outside the ring, drawing Brigante to the floor...Fenix used Monica as a shield to deliver a cheapshot. Not to be outdone, Monica got some payback at a moment when Karim had the referee's attention, jumping off the second turnbuckle for a flying tornado DDT on Fenix! With the momentum thus shifted, Brigante scored the victory with a pop-up forearm smash in 7:13.
C.J. Shine vs. "The Hybrid Ace" Jon Webb: The winner of the match would qualify for Proving Ground Pro's Buckley Cup Tournament in central Illinois. Like his High Level Enterprise partner, Webb took on a more aggressive attitude as he attacked Shine before the bell. The match was shorter than I expected, given the stakes, but it was a fine outing for both men; Webb won after the Sliced Bread #2 in 5:42.
Intermission~! Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm): I indulged with peanut butter cups and barbecue potato chips. I had a bottle of water instead of soda...trying to cut back on the sugary stuff, though I'm not always as good about it as I'd like to be.
Outtkast vs. "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin for the D-1 Title: Outtkast was the inaugural champion after winning a tournament, defeating Elvis Aliaga and Jayden Fenix in the triple threat final last February. He lost the title to his Bumrush Brother tag team partner Shorty Biggs in August but quickly regained it in September...this would be his toughest challenge to date. With the low ceiling, Elgin couldn't do some of his usual power maneuvers...he took a more technical approach by targeting the arm after running Outtkast shoulder-first into the ringpost. Outtkast fought back but had trouble executing his own power-based offense due to the arm damage. His aerial attack went a bit better, but Elgin finally put a stop to his offense with a massive lariat...after having used the Fujiwara armbar a few times, he finally cinched it in with no means of escape and Outtkast had to tap out in 12:36! A resume that includes the Ring Of Honor Heavyweight Title, IWGP Intercontinental Title, and AAW Heavyweight Title can now add the Dynamo Pro Wrestling D-1 Championship...someone will have to step up his game in a major way to relieve him of that title belt.
Brandon Aarons vs. "The Filipino Warrior" Elvis Aliaga for the Heavyweight Title: Aarons finally reached the top of Dynamo Pro by beating Mike Outlaw in November; his first challenger was a man who had competed for the title on several occasions but never quite won it. Aliaga was without Lucy Mendez on this night...aww. Aliaga denied a hand slap to a young fan, unifying the younger crowd against him with "Elvis Sucks" chants. Of course Aarons' hair was on point, but that goes without saying. The fight slipped out of the ring as Aliaga threw Aarons into the merchandise table and some ringside chairs, but Elvis took too much time to pose in the ring and Aarons crucifixed him for the flash pin in 12:50! Aliaga continued his attack and even called in Jayden Fenix to lend a hand, but Jack Gamble & Jon Webb hit the ring for the save...Roy Lewis had remarked that the show had a major WLW presence and the show-closing segment reinforced that.
Post-show, the options were Fast Eddie's and Denny's on Lindbergh...myself, Brian Kelley, Ben Simon, and Drew Abbenhaus opted for Denny's. However, the restaurant had a large party group in the house so we decided to change our plans, driving a bit further down the road to Steak 'N' Shake. I went with my traditional bacon-lovers' steakburger with fries and water to drink. The nefarious plans to control Midwest wrestling continue, need you ask.
That wrapped up a three-show calendar week for me...oddly enough, this coming weekend has no local wrestling shows. NWL has their Kansas City offering on Saturday, for those willing to make the trip across Missouri.
The rest of March looks like this:
-Thursday 3/9: National Wrasslin' League in St. Louis, MO
-Saturday 3/11: World League Wrestling in Troy, MO (Kurt Angle); Pro Wrestling Resurgence in Edwardsville, IL; Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance in St. Louis, MO
-Saturday 3/18: Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling in East Carondelet, IL
-Sunday 3/19: Wrestling Over Everything in Swansea, IL
-Saturday 3/25: Pro Wrestling Championship Series in Alton, IL
-Sunday 3/26: NWL in St. Louis, MO
That's my special comment for this, the ninth wrestling show I've attended in the year 2017. Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.
-PB, Watching Wrestling Wrong Since 1991
P.S. We are all marks.

NWL Special Comment
Now, as promised, a special comment about Thursday's National Wrasslin' League show at the Casa Loma Ballroom in St. Louis, Missouri.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
Attendance was about the same as the previous event; there will be one more Thursday show before the St. Louis shows officially move to Sundays (starting on March 26th). The night had a few more rough spots than usual, both in-ring and in terms of video production(with miscued items on the big screen). Despite that, the storylines and characters are building up well as the tournament and other feuds progress.
The only confirmed quarterfinal was Todd Letterman vs. "Greatness" Marcellus Gaines; the night had three tournament matches scheduled as well as a St. Louis vs. Kansas City bout with the overall score between the cities at 2-1 in favor of K.C.
Your ring announcer was Ben Simon; your referees were Michael Crase & Jason Pemberton. Marti Belle doubled as backstage interviewer and belt presenter for the tournament matches.
Dez Wellston(aka Mike Outlaw) vs. Adam Ryan(w/ Jackie Lee Bosch)(aka Danny Adams w/ Jake Parnell), St. Louis Title Tournament: The winner of this match would face Maverick in the quarterfinals on March 9th. Wrestling logic would dictate good guy-vs.-bad guy matches in tournaments, but we already had a rulebreaker-vs.-rulebreaker match set for the next round. These two had crossed paths in their past lives, of course. This feud dates back to the first St. Louis show as The Underground members injured Wellston's tag team partner Neon Iverson(aka Justin D'Air); that put Wellston in a two-on-one situation with Bosch in Ryan's corner. They had a fine opening contest, ending with Ryan accidentally knocking Bosch off the ring apron and Wellston getting the rollup pin in 11:36. The Underground went on the attack after the bell, which brought out the recently-recovered Neon Iverson for the save...the reunited Soldiers got the upper hand and stood tall in the ring.
Matthew Grundy(w/ Davey Gibson)(aka Mat Fitchett w/ Davey Vega) vs. Cal Stark(aka Chip Day), St. Louis Title Tournament: The winner of this match would face "Super Soul" Coco Rumble in the next round on March 9th; again, wrestling logic would favor the rulebreaker(this week) in Stark. Of course, logic rarely applies nowadays in wrestling or many other walks of life. Stark's NWL record hasn't been the best and his character has been the most inconsistent; he has alternated between fan favorite and rulebreaker depending on the opposition. Wouldn't mind seeing a longer match between these two in the future, either in NWL or elsewhere. Stark attacked Grundy before the opening bell for a fast start to the match...it wasn't a very long bout but it was action-packed from bell to bell. Grundy won with the flying knee strike in 5:41 to advance in the tournament.
It was time for our biweekly address from NWL President Major Baisden...the PowerPoint has been a tougher sell in St. Louis than in Kansas City, but the fans are starting to appreciate it. It seemed like a more routine segment as Major pushed the season ticket deals as a part of the NWL Fight Club. (I thought you weren't supposed to talk about NWL Fight Club...?) However, Baisden was interrupted by The Anti-Social Network(Tommy Flagg & August Marshall, aka Christian Rose & Austin Blackburn). Flagg had a list of demands for "Minor": The return of his missing sunglasses, dimmer lights in the building, moving the fan seating farther back from the ring area, and a bye in the tournament since they weren't entered in the first place. Major didn't take their words too seriously and Flagg got right in his face, which brought out Maverick to back up the boss. Major took the opportunity to book a Very Special Handicap Match(tm); hope he's careful because once you book your first handicap match, you never want to stop booking them...
Maverick vs. The Anti-Social Network(Tommy Flagg & August Marshall), handicap match: I would have personally preferred a one-on-one match between Maverick and Flagg, but such is life. Maverick attempted to pick up both guys on his shoulders at once, but lost his balance and the ASN beat him down. At times it appeared that the numbers game would wear down Maverick, but he maintained his undefeated streak; Maverick took out Flagg with a lariat and then dropped Marshall on top of Flagg with the Sure Shot(Gory Bomb), pinning both in a pile in 5:41.
"The Hanover Hooligan" Jay Lutz(aka Gary Jay) vs. Blaine Meeks(aka Bolt Brady): For scoreboard purposes: Meeks & Royal Blood(Jet & Jax Royal)(aka Logan & Sterling Riegel) defeated the trio of Todd Letterman, Dez Wellston, & Christian Adonis at the first Kansas City show; Maverick & The Blood Brothers(Gibson & Grundy) beat Dak Draper & Royal Blood at the first St. Louis event. K.C. took the 2-1 lead at the previous Saturday's event as "The Monarch" Jeremy Wyatt defeated Skyler Beckett. Both men were fan favorites, but the city loyalties meant that Lutz was the crowd favorite; also, the more casual fans didn't recognize Meeks since it had been a while since he had wrestled in the St. Louis area under his previous name. I had high expectations for the matchup and I don't think it lived up to that bar, though I'm sure they have a better match in them; it was hardly bad, but I thought it had the potential to be a show-stealer. Lutz dropkicked Meeks at one point and Meeks stumbled backwards into the referee, knocking him out of the match for a short time. That gave Dak Draper the opportunity to interfere; he had previously stated that he had no investment in the city rivalry, plus he had previous issues with Meeks. When Draper hit the ring, he actually targeted Meeks first with his Mile-High Doctor Bomb, then decided to give Lutz the same treatment and put Meeks on top as an afterthought. The official recovered to count the fall, giving Meeks the win in 9:42 and putting Kansas City at a 3-1 lead in the STL-KC series. (The most glaring producting error occurred here as the "3-1" graphic came up on the screen slightly before the actual pinfall...clearly video guy Rupert is from Kansas City and his bias led to him jumping the gun on playing the video. DAMN IT RUPERT, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER!)
Intermission~! Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm): One Coca-Cola. Notably soda prices were down to two dollars apiece, which I appreciated.
As the show returned from intermission, a video came up on the big screen with text that simply said "This Is Not Pro Wrestling". In my personal theory department, I note that the bio quote for Jack Foster(aka Jake Dirden) on NWL's roster page is "I am pro wrestling"...just putting that out there.
The Party Crashers(Boulder & Spike)(aka Mikey McFinnegan & Zakk Sawyers of Roscoe Eat Lisa) vs. "The Five-Star Phenom" Todd Letterman(aka Kevin Lee Davidson) & "The Mile-High Magnum" Dak(ota) Draper: This occurred as a result of a promo segment; Letterman and Draper proclaimed mutual respect for each other and essentially excluded the rest of the NWL roster in their views. They threw out an open challenge for a tag match and Boulder & Spike stumbled out to the entrance stage...they were looking for a party, but wound up in the match despite appearing to be, err, less than lucid. Boulder & Spike survived for a lot longer than expected, but the size difference was too much to overcome despite their superior team experience. Letterman finished off Spike with the Endzone Spike(pumphandle Michinoku Driver) in 8:54. The assault continued after the bell until Maverick made the save, clearing out Draper before El Big-Guy Staredown with Letterman...that's a potential tournament final, it should be noted. Letterman backed off and left the ring at that point, but I suspect they'll cross paths again.
Skyler Beckett(w/ Buddy Shepherd)(aka Everett Connors w/ Evan Gelistico) vs. Christian Adonis(w/ Carolina Grizelda Esmeralda Rodriguez)(aka Elvis Aliaga w/ Lucy Mendez): Buddy praised his protege's efforts against Jeremy Wyatt the previous Saturday in Kansas City...Shepherd still holds a grudge against K.C. for what happened to his grandpappy. (Gotta watch out for that tainted lemonahd.) He thought that Beckett's opponent for the night could use the help of the Buddy System, but Carolina strongly disagreed...while Adonis didn't want anyone speaking for him(dissension in the ranks already?), he was fine with his current situation. With the parties on the floor, chicanery was bound to ensue...both of Carolina's high-heeled shoes somehow ended up in the ring and the referee made a point to get one of them out of there. However, Beckett got a hold of the other shoe and knocked out Adonis with it for the pinfall in 7:01, marking his first NWL victory. (Hulk Hogan can attest to the damage that a high-heeled shoe can do...)
"Super Soul" Coco Rumble(aka Sugar Dunkerton) made his entrance for a scheduled match, but he was attacked from behind by "The Billion-Dollar Brother" Emmett DuBois(aka Dorian Victor) & Clayton Fox(aka Matt Kenway). They brought out a table and DuBois attempted to powerbomb Rumble through it, but lost his balance in mid-move and dumped Rumble onto the table. With an assist from Fox, he was able to deliver the powerbomb on the second attempt to drive Rumble through the table...will Rumble be 100% for his tournament match on March 9th?
Davey Gibson(w/ Matthew Grundy) vs. "The Bull City Boss" Cornell Douglass(aka Murder One), St. Louis Title Tournament: The winner would face Jay Lutz in the quarterfinals. The Blood Brothers had beaten Douglass and Christian Adonis at the previous show with Gibson pinning Douglass, proving Gibson was capable of defeating the larger opponent...but that was a tag match and this was a one-on-one affair. They had a really good competitive main event, but the tide turned when an unknown person attacked Grundy at ringside out of nowhere. That brief distraction was enough for Douglass to capitalize with a version of his signature heart punch, scoring the important victory in 15:34! The post-match interview on YouTube identified Douglass' associate as "Kastle"; he works elsewhere as Adrian Armour and it was my first time seeing him in person.
After the show, myself and Ben Simon made our now-customary trip(other than the one Whiskey Ring visit) to Yaquis across the street for sausage & pepperoni pizza. The plans continued for Midwest wrestling domination, need you ask.
That was only the second of my three wrestling shows in the past calendar week...but that's another story for another time. Tune in next time...Same Pat-Time, Same Pat-Channel.
That's my special comment for this, the eighth wrestling show I've attended in the year 2017. Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

-"The Roman Dynasty" Karim Brigante(w/ Miss Monica Passeri) d. Jayden Fenix; Fenix manhandled Monica and used her as a shield early in the match, so she retaliated with a flying tornado DDT off the second rope while the referee's attention was on Brigante. Karim went on to win after a pop-up forearm smash (7:13).
-"The Hybrid Ace" Jon Webb d. C.J. Shine after the Sliced Bread #2 (5:42); Webb qualified for Proving Ground Pro's Buckley Cup Tournament with the win.
-"Unbreakable" Michael Elgin d. Outtkast to win the D-1 Title. Elgin focused his attack on Outtkast's arm after running him shoulder-first into the ringpost, wearing him down until he was able to wipe him out with a lariat. That led to Elgin getting the tapout win with a Fujiwara armbar (12:36).
-Brandon Aarons d. "The Filipino Warrior" Elvis Aliaga to retain the Heavyweight Title. Aliaga did a lot of damage to the champion outside the ring and seemed to have things in control, but wasted too much time posing and Aarons was able to crucifix him for the flash pin (12:50). Aliaga snapped and beat down Aarons after the match, calling in Jayden Fenix to assist in the attack...but High Level Enterprise(Jack Gamble & Jon Webb) hit the ring to run off Aliaga & Fenix.

GPW Special Comment
Now, as promised, a special comment about Sunday's Glory Pro Wrestling show at the Spaulding Hall Club in Alton, Illinois.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
This was the first show for Michael Elgin's new promotion and he pulled out all the stops for not only this event, but also the next two. He booked several talents who had never competed in the St. Louis area and who I had been wanting to see in person for a long time. (Granted, I saw some of those people at All-American Wrestling in December, but it was nice to see them a bit closer to home and I'm sure the Midwest fans who couldn't make that kind of trip were appreciative as well.)
The turnout was impressive for a first event as they drew about three hundred fans who packed the house that St. Louis Anarchy built in Alton. The Hales Clan was in the house for the show, as was Tony Patrico from The Rizzuto Show on 105.7 The Point (I think it was Patrico's first independent show outside of Ring Of Honor).
Your ring announcer was Trina The Marky Smark; your referee was Brandon Tolle.
"The Incredible Primal Prodigy" Matt Kenway(Look At Him) & Erin Dzinic vs. Barackus & Garrett Shanks: I walked in the door as the pre-show match was being introduced...nice timing. Barackus was the lone rulebreaker and wasn't on the same page as his partner Shanks. Dzinic is a Bosnian-American newcomer who was trained by Elgin; I hadn't seen him in the ring prior to this. The finish saw Kenway deliver an exploder suplex to Shanks, setting him up for Dzinic's Penalty Kick and pin in 7:43.
Before the official opener, Trina led the fans in singing Happy Birthday to young fan A.J. (host of The A.J. Awesome Show on YouTube *cheap plug*).
Paco Gonzalez vs. "The Diamond Tiger" Kobe Durst, Crown Of Glory Title Tournament: The tourney to crown the first champion would consist of a four first-round matches, leading into a four-way dance finale in the main event. I wasn't familiar with Durst before this match; he's an independent wrestler out of Ontario who debuted in 2013. Paco began training under Elgin and debuted in a Ring Of Honor dark match in Collinsville in 2014. All four tournament matches were set up as Elgin students against more well-traveled competitors. Paco won a competitive match with a jackknife cradle in 7:41, advancing to the finals.
"All Ego" Ethan Page vs. "The Millenial" Danny Adams, Crown Of Glory Tournament: Adams debuted in the same ROH dark match as Paco and the two's careers have been linked since that time; they've been both tag partners and rivals in the past few years. Page worked a ROH Collinsville show several years ago(under the alternate ring name of Ethan Gabriel Owens); I first saw him in AAW videos as one-half of The Monster Mafia with Josh Alexander. While Page is a more natural rulebreaker, he was the fan favorite in this bout against Adams who is better known in the "bad guy" role in this area. After a fine contest, Page won with his version of the Rock Bottom(called the "Spinning Dwayne") in 8:27.
Shigehiro Irie vs. "The Lone Star" Curt Stallion, Crown Of Glory Title Tournament: I had never seen Irie before this show; he's a big friendly Japanese guy who just happens to be capable of ripping your limbs from your body. Stallion has been moving up in the wrestling world with his performances across the country, earning a spot in Ring Of Honor's 2017 Top Prospect Tournament. Stallion didn't back down from his larger opponent and took the fight to him, but that may not have been the best game plan against such a foe. Irie won with a cool-looking sequence where he suplexed Stallion into the air and took him down in a Kokita Clutch from there! Stallion quickly tapped out in 7:34.
"The Gift" Jason Kincaid vs. Everett Connors, Crown Of Glory Tournament: The cardboard cutout of Justin Bieber suffered a tragic demise at CHIKARA's National Pro Wrestling Day; Connors came up short in the Young Lions' Cup Tournament despite the assistance of The Bieb. Kincaid made a great impression in last year's ROH Top Prospect Tournament which was won by Lio Rush; I saw him at a show in Collinsville where he had a fun match with Mark Briscoe. Kincaid has a lot of innovative offense; I compare him to A.C.H. in that he comes up with unique moves in a time period when it seems like everything has "been done". One of the most insane moments of the match was when Kincaid caught Connors in mid-suicide dive and dropped him with a hanging Diamond Cutter to the floor! Kincaid sunset-flipped Connors into the turnbuckles, jumped to the second rope of the adjacent corner to deliver a flying dropkick, then pulled Connors out of the corner into a modified piledriver! That was enough for the win in 12:28, setting up a star-stutted four-way finale of Paco Gonzalez vs. Ethan Page vs. Shigehiro Irie vs. Kincaid.
"Hot Fire" Myron Reed vs. "The Miracle Worker" Davey Vega vs. Space Monkey vs. "Stiff Robo Ginger" Gary Jay vs. Mat Fitchett vs. Jason Roberts: Glory Pro wants to make the six-way bouts a regular feature of the promotion; they operate under lucha libre rules as a wrestler can "tag out" of the match by touching the floor, thus allowing one of the other competitors to become legal by entering the ring. Four of the competitors in the match were local while the other two were making their St. Louis-area debuts; Space Monkey has a cult following on the independent scene in Canada and recently captured the CHIKARA Young Lions' Cup. The 19-year-old Reed is just starting to make an impact in the wrestling world, starting in tag team competition with Mickey Muscles as The Brotherhood before turning heads on his own. The match would determine the first challenger for the Crown Of Glory Title once the inaugural champion had been, well, crowned. This match was a ton of fun as everyone pulled out all the stops in front of the big audience; even as someone who's burnt out on multi-way schmozz matches, I considered this one of my favorite matches of the night. Space Monkey brought plenty of bananas to the ring and partook in them as the match progressed, resulting in a wrestler or two literally slipping on a banana peel. Reed pulled off a crazy over-the-top-rope rana on Gary, but Vega caught him in mid-air on the floor and powerbombed him into the other wrestlers! The ending came out of nowhere as Reed hit a standing C-4(backflip uranagi) on Space Monkey in 11:39, earning the first championship opportunity at the May show!
Intermission~! Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm): One root beer, one Mello Yello. I brought money to pick up a T-shirt, but Matt Riddle was sold out of most of his shirts and Space Monkey was out of XLs. Aww.
"Dad Bod" Sean Orleans vs. Brandon Espinosa: Orleans was grateful for the opportunity to appear on his trainer Elgin's show, but Espy was displeased with his "inferior" competition and bad-mouthed Orleans repeatedly. Orleans stood up to Espy and came out swinging with forearms, but Espy shut him down with a quick Blue Thunder Bomb for a two-count. He followed up with a close-range superkick for another near-fall, then hit the brainbuster for the shockingly quick win in 1:18! I liked the change of pace and they're clearly building up something as Orleans seeks to earn respect against tough competition.
Shane Sabre vs. Jake Something: Sabre worked a St. Louis Anarchy preshow match several years ago; my obvious joke was that my money was on the guy with long hair and facial hair. Trina gave Something a particularly inspired introduction, saying that he was from "Somewhere" and weighed in at "Whatever". Something enjoys shouting out his name at random intervals, similar to Todd Letterman/Kevin Lee Davidson nowadays, so the Pokemon joke was a given. These were probably the least-"known" names on the show and that may have affected the fan interest, but it boosted the fans' energy level after the surprisingly quick bout that preceded it. Something scored the victory after a sliding lariat to the back of the head in 11:34.
MsChif made her first wrestling-related appearance in several years...she hadn't competed since having her son and she was hyped as addressing her in-ring future. She wore her wrestling attire, which I would qualify as A Good Sign(tm), but she gave the non-answer of "never say never" as it related to a potential return to action. She announced that she was the head of the Glory Pro championship committee and there were plans to bring women's wrestling to the company in the future...woo.
Matt Riddle vs. "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin for the Progress Wrestling Atlas Title: I saw Riddle for the first time at the AAW show in December; he's been compared to Kurt Angle as he's adapted to the pro wrestling game with incredible ease. He competed in mixed martial arts and did well in that environment before being released by the Ultimate Fighting Championship promotion. Elgin's record speaks for itself as he's competed all over the world, winning multiple notable championships including the Ring Of Honor Heavyweight Title, the IWGP Intercontinental Title, and the AAW Heavyweight Title. This was a really fun strong-style bout and the two worked very well together in their first-ever meeting...wouldn't mind seeing these two cross paths again. Riddle's winning combo consisted of the "Bro 2 Sleep" followed by a middle-rope springboard into a flying knee strike, earning him the hard-fought victory in 13:54! Hope to see Riddle back in the area down the line...still want to pick up one of his T-shirts.
MsChif did the more formal introductions for the main event...
Paco Gonzalez vs. "All Ego" Ethan Page vs. Shigehiro Irie vs. "The Gift" Jason Kincaid, Crown Of Glory Title Tournament Final: Page shifted into a more aggressive style to balance out the sides (as all four men were fan favorites to varying degrees). Paco was a major underdog compared to the other three competitors in the match, but he hung around for a lot longer than expected.
The match went almost fifteen minutes before any eliminations occurred; Page was surprisingly the first to go in 13:40 as Kincaid pinned him after springboarding from the second rope into the ring for a corkscrew Stone Cold Stunner. Irie caught Paco in the same suplex/Kokita Clutch that he used to beat Curt Stallion earlier in the night, but Paco bridged back for a flash pin in 14:54 to eliminate Irie! That left Paco alone with Kincaid as the final two...Kincaid earned a lot of fans on this night, but Paco had his local supporters and got quite a few fans behind him. Paco survived incredible punishment from Kincaid but it was too much for him in the end; Kincaid got him in a trapped-arm dragon sleeper and Paco passed out in the hold, forcing the referee to call for the bell in 19:47! Jason Kincaid had become the first Crown Of Glory Champion!
The promotion had a full-fledged press conference after the show to push the title match at the next show (Kincaid defending against Reed); that show on May 7th will also feature Elgin against Penta El Cero Miedo(aka Pentagon Jr./Dark). Most tremendous.
After the event, I checked an item off my bucket list with my first trip to Fast Eddie's Bon-Air in Alton; several of the wrestlers and fans went to Fast Eddie's as well, including Riddle and Elgin. I opted for the Fat Eddie burger with fries and a root beer...good stuff.
Tonight is the National Wrasslin' League's bi-weekly offering in St. Louis, MO with three St. Louis Title tournament matches on the docket: Matthew Grundy vs. Cal Stark, Davey Gibson vs. Cornell Douglass, and Dez Wellston vs. Adam Ryan. Also, in the latest battle between the St. Louis and Kansas City rosters, Jay Lutz will go one-on-one with Blaine Meeks in what should be a tremendous matchup. As for the weekend proper, Dynamo Pro Wrestling makes its debut in Alton, IL at the Mineral Springs Mall...woo-hoo.
That's my special comment for this, the seventh wrestling show I've attended in the year 2017. Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

P.S. We are all marks.
Aww.
