Dynamo Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about the Dynamo Pro Wrestling show on Saturday, Julry 28th at the Concordia Turners Gymnasium in St. Louis, Missouri.

DISCLAIMER:  I'm biased.  Deal with it.

Dynamo has struggled to announce matches ahead of time for their shows...in this case, we went into the night only knowing the main event for the D-1 Championship.  I realize it can be tough to nail down wrestlers at a time when there are a ton of shows for them to potentially work, but it's difficult to promote an event without a lot of definite bouts set up.

Your ring announcer was Chris Roedel; your referees were Scott Ramsey & Jay King; your video commentators were Luke Roberts & Patrick Brandmeyer.

"The Caramel Bear" C.J. Shine vs. Shiroi Senshi:  Shine encouraged the referee to do his entrance cartwheel along with him...I sensed biased officiating.  Shine and Senshi started the match with a dance-off of sorts, but it led to Senshi dropping Shine with a cheapshot.  It's been difficult to get a read on the masked Senshi's style, but his striking ability is top-notch.  Senshi dished out an arsenal of kicks and chops, but Shine was able to withstand the assault and win with a top-rope dropkick in 5:33.

"The Valedictorian" Keon Option vs. The Snitch:  Option was once a Tag Team Champion with "The Neon Icon" Justin D'Air...D'Air recently moved to Colorado, so Option has been readjusting to singles competition.  In the meantime, The Snitch has been building momentum for himself...he still hasn't forgotten about having been "screwed" in the battle royal last year at 4 Hands Brewery.  He had his pre-match spiel for Chris to read, of course.  After a good solid matchup, Snitch avoided a Stinger Splash and got the clean(!) win with the Olympic Slam in 8:05.  Snitch brought in a chair after the bell to do more damage...Option nearly got it away from him, but Snitch recovered to hit another Olympic Slam onto the set-up chair!  It was a good night to be The Snitch, especially since the referee didn't think about reversing the decision for the post-match shenanigans...

Tag Team Champions The Agents Of Chaos(Viktor Von Stein & Xavier Shadowz) vs. Jackal & "Mr. Mustache" Ricky Rodriguez, non-title:  It took some time, but Dynamo is slowly rebuilding its tag team division with Jackal/Rodriguez and The Arch City Mercenaries(Tony Esteem & Jimmi LaFleur) as newly-established duos.  Von Stein had become a bit cranky since losing his first-round Riot On The River Tournament match to Mike Outlaw.  The champs seemed to have things well in hand, but Von Stein's state of mind was his team's undoing as he got occupied with yelling at the ringside fans.  That led to his partner Shadowz taking his eye off the ball and getting caught with a small package by Rodriguez for the upset win in 11:33!  This will definitely lead to a Tag Team Title opportunity for Jackal & Rodriguez in the near future...

"Lights Out" Adrian Surge vs. Jimmi LaFleur:  It was a rare solo outing for the rookie LaFleur with Tony Esteem not in attendance for the evening...that didn't bode well for him as he was up against one of the top contenders to the Heavyweight Title.  Surge dominated a lot of the matchup, overcoming an offensive flurry by LaFleur to get back into the bout.  It looked like he had the match won after the spinebuster, but the lights went out in the building...when they came back on, Heavyweight Champion Makaze did his own mocking version of Surge's "Lights Out" entrance.  After that, the lights went off and came back on again...Makaze was gone, but LaFleur was able to regain his bearings and hit a reverse Stunner for the huge upset win in 11:07!  Since beating Makaze in a non-title bout a few months ago, it seems like Surge has had difficulty building momentum and Makaze has been one of the main factors in several of his losses...

Intermission~!  Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm):  Root beer, barbecue potato chips, fruit punch Gatorade.

"The Wind Of Destruction" Makaze vs. Outtkast for the Heavyweight Title:  These two are no strangers to each other, dating all the way back to the Gateway Championship Wrestling days when both were Light Heavyweight Champions.  They crossed paths in a D-1 Title match a few years ago with Outtkast successfully defending his title.  The two knew how to counter each other's signature moves very well, so it was an even encounter until the referee was accidentally knocked down.  Outtkast delivered the Case Study and would have become a Triple Crown winner in Dynamo(since he's already been D-1 and Tag Champ), but there was no one to count the fall.  Makaze stopped Outtkast in his tracks with a low blow and looked to cause more underhanded damage, but Adrian Surge hit the ring to attack Makaze...of course the referee had revived at this point, calling for the DQ in 12:22 to award the win to the champion.  Things are far from settled between these two...

Jayden Dominic Rose vs. Mike Outlaw for the D-1 Title:  Rose won the vacant title in a ladder match in April, despite many thinking Outlaw was the favorite to walk away with the championship.  Rose came out first, claiming that Outlaw had some car problems and didn't make it to the show.  (He had competed at Proving Ground Pro earlier in the evening, winning their Cutting Edge Title.)  Rose told the referee to make the ten-count for the official forfeit, only for Outlaw to run in the front door of the building!  We got about two or three "opening bells" and my official time may be a bit off, but the fight got underway and Rose almost immediately attacked Outlaw with a chair to get disqualified in a mere 0:33!  Rose made his way up the aisle with his belt, but Outlaw challenged his pride as a titleholder and told him to get back in the ring and finish things decisively with no countouts or DQs.  Strangely, Rose took him up on this offer...and Outlaw was quick to give him a taste of his own chair.  After two hard shots with the weapon, Outlaw went to the top rope, dropped the High Noon elbowdrop, and won the title in 1:02 of the restart!  In rather unusual fashion, we had a NEWWWWW D-1 Champion...I didn't understand why the match played out that way (unless one or the other had an off-the-record injury), but life goes on...

I made it through July...woo?  Next up, a very full August...how the hell did I go to EIGHT shows last month?...
