Comedy Part 734: Comedy, Smacked Down
Location: Helium Comedy Club
Emcees: Bobby Jaycox & Rafe Williams
After: Nathan Orton
Before: Joe Murray
This wasn't my best night for a variety of reasons. The format(heckling encouraged, particularly by the other comedians in the front row) was the exact opposite of my wheelhouse. I've been under the weather and that usually means my ears clog up; that meant I had trouble hearing what people were saying. I hadn't performed in several weeks as I've been working Tuesday nights lately. On top of that, my nose started running like CRAZY about halfway through the show...as it turned out, I went on stage near the end of the show. The heckling starts a minute into one's set with the blow of a whistle by one of the emcees...I joked that I should just sit down and let everyone take their verbal shots at me since that would be entertaining enough. Take shots they did, though the originality left a lot to be desired(pedophile, school shooter, all the usual stuff). At any rate, I hope to give this another shot at a time when I'm feeling better...thanks to Cathy Babis for treating me to dinner at Weber Grill.

Saturday DPW Results From St. Louis, MO
-"The Caramel Bear" C.J. Shine d. Jackal via small package (8:22).
-"The Alternative" Ozzie Gallagher(with his new shorter hair) lashed out at both Makaze and The Bite Club(Rocket Mapache & Jackal), saying he would refocus his career in 2017.
-Tag Team Champion "The Valedictorian" Keon Option(w/ Justin D'Air) d. Rocket Mapache(w/ Jackal) after the axe kick (6:33).
-Outtkast d. Makaze to retain the D-1 Title; these two threw their entire arsenals at each other and it took a lot to put either man away. Makaze delivered a Death Valley Driver onto the ring apron but missed a plancha, leading to Outtkast following up with a corkscrew moonsault off the top rope to the floor! Outtkast survived Makaze's Kyouhen(Sharpshooter) and top-rope Death Valley Driver and managed to put away The Wind Of Destruction after the Case Study (16:34).
-Brandon Espinosa d. "The Incredible Primal Prodigy" Matt Kenway (Look At Him); Espy nearly put him away early after two spears and an attempted Jackhammer, but Kenway bailed out of the ring. Both men attempted to focus their attack on the other's arm, but it was Espy who was able to lock on his cross-armbreaker finisher. Kenway didn't tap, but he appeared to injure Kenway's arm and the referee stopped the match (18:40). An irate Kenway attacked Espy with a chair after the match until Ricky Cruz ran him off, then seemingly made peace with his old rival Espinosa.
-"The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz d. "Dirdey" Jake Dirden after his fourth superkick of the match (14:58). It was acknowledged that Ricky is retiring at the end of the year; this was his last match in the St. Louis area (he has one more at Galli Lucha Libre in Chicago). It was also acknowledged that Dirden is leaving Dynamo (to go to the National Wrasslin' League). Both men thanked friends, colleagues, and family for their support.
-Brandon Aarons d. Mike Outlaw to win the Heavyweight Title. Aarons somehow survived Outlaw's Mafia Kick and then the High Noon(top-rope elbowdrop), leading to Outlaw grabbing a steel chair out of frustration. When Outlaw swung the weapon, Aarons dodged and the chair rebounded off the top rope to hit Outlaw in the head. Aarons capitalized with a Go 2 Sleep, Hairflip Suplex(half-nelson German suplex), and Shining Wizard to score the huge upset for the title (14:00)! Outlaw grabbed the title belt away from the referee, but graciously handed it to Aarons and raised his arm. Outlaw told the fans that this was also his last night at Dynamo Pro and he thanked the fans and other wrestlers for getting him started in his wrestling career.

SLA Special Comment (Part 2)
Now, as promised, the remainder of my special comment about Friday's St. Louis Anarchy show at the Spaulding Hall Club in Alton, Illinois.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
This was an eventful show, so I had to split this commentary into two parts...oh yeah, almost forgot one important thing:
INTERMISSION~! Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm): Mountain Dew, Pepsi, and root beer. Ben somehow got a hold of two free drink tokens and passed them along to me, so that was cool of him. I also borrowed a piece of his world-famous Spaulding Hall Club pizza.
I was fortunate to sit with Trina for most of the second half, which I'm sure prompted the same "PATRICK'S SITTING WITH A GIRL!" looks as when I was sitting with Jesse Favre at a Dynamo Pro Wrestling show earlier this year. Heh.
Angelus Layne & Austin Blackburn vs. The Cause(Evan Gelistico & Danny Adams): After Rachel Summerlyn quietly retired from the business, Angelus Layne became one of SLA's most featured female wrestlers; she even main-evented against Gary Jay in a match for the title. Blackburn had been The Cause's rule-enforcing referee in the past, but he split from the group and had been at odds with them ever since. Blackburn debuted with the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance but has branched out quickly in his short career. Adams is a trainee of Michael Elgin and debuted in a Ring Of Honor dark match in Collinsville against Paco Gonzalez(the first of many bouts between the two). With Adam Caster's retirement and Everett Connors' departure from the group, the stable was down to two members...and with the promotion coming to an end, it remains to be seen if The Cause will still be around in the future. (We will see their Kansas City counterparts, The Commission, at Metro Pro on December 3rd.)
The real story of the match had nothing to do with the match itself(which was as good as expected); about midway through the bout, the power went out in the building! One spotlight near the door illuminated the room to some degree, but several fans promptly held up their cellphone lights and the match continued without much of a hitch. It was definitely a memorable portion of the show and the first time I'd ever seen a power outage in the middle of a match. (A Dynamo show once experienced a power outage during intermission and they had to cancel the rest of the show's matches.) The good guys...err, guy and girl...took control of the match and a lot of near-falls ensued; it ended with Blackburn getting his final revenge with a Code Red on Gelistico in 13:10. Layne and Blackburn dished out some post-match damage for the fun of it; Adams did everything he could in an attempt to revive Gelistico, including mouth-to-mouth...err.
The fans were cool with the continuation of the show...good thing everyone had their phones charged. Sarah Rose did her announcements with a handheld megaphone...play with the cards you're dealt, I always say...
Aaron Solow vs. Jason Roberts vs. Paco Gonzalez: Paco was HATED in that building, given his home town of Chicago and fandom of the World Series Champion Cubs. (It seems like every time I see him after a show, he's decked out in Cubs gear.) I'd seen Solow around these parts in the past; he had been a regular in the area under the training of Davey Richards and teamed with Darren Dean(R.I.P.). As previously noted, Paco is an Elgin trainee and has already been making waves in the area. Roberts is a newer face in the area, but I've quickly become a fan of his technical style. The wrestlers in this match and the previous one deserve a lot of credit for working through the unusual scenario of the power outage. Solow pinned Roberts after a cradle DDT in 9:53; he said a few words after the match about working in St. Louis Anarchy during the early part of his career. However, he turned things around and trashed the fans, saying he had moved on to better things.
The power was restored at this point, much to the relief of everyone in the building...woo-hoo.
Roscoe Eat Lisa("Zesty" Zakk Sawyers & "The Big Mustache On Campus" Mikey McFinnegan) vs. Team I.O.U.("The Down-South Dandy" Nick Iggy & "The Music City Mutt" Kerry Awful) for the Tag Team Titles: Sarah got Iggy & Awful's names mixed up and they took it upon themselves to correct her. It was a divided crowd as the champs and the "carnies" each had their share of supporters. Iggy & Awful have been getting notice on the national stage, which is cool to see. It sounds like Sawyers & McFinnegan will be a part of the NWL. After a tremendous bout and a lot of near-falls, the champs retained as Zakk pinned Awful after R.E.L. hit their Air Raid Crash-with-spike finisher in 16:38. The final St. Louis Anarchy Tag Team Champions thanked the fans for their support before departing...the belts only came into existence about a year and half ago, but they were briefly held by The Hooligans before being captured by The Cause(Gelistico & Adam Caster). Sawyers & McFinnegan won them in August and will retire the championships...fare thee well.
Matt Kenway hit the ring and staged a one-man sit-down strike, complaining about being left off the show and issuing an open challenge. He got a response from a Lethal Wrestling Alliance original...
Gorgeous Jordan Lacey vs. "The Incredible Primal Prodigy" Matt Kenway (Look At Him): Trina got a lapdance from the returning Lacey, as did several other fans...bwahahaha. We got a FAT GUY OUTTA CONTROL SUICIDE DIVE before Lacey finished with the Jenna Jameson(swinging uranagi) in a brisk 2:02. Gelistico & Danny Adams hit the ring to attack Lacey, but the save was made by two other LWA originals: Adam Caster(Raw) and Frankie Big Balls! Caster said he was no longer drinking Gelistico's Cause Kool-Aid and his mind was clear again. He brought out three men who were a big part of the LWA: President Jordan Taylor, ring announcer Mad Dog Daffronian, and tech guy Tim Pickerill. The newer fans weren't familiar with those guys and had little patience for the mic work, wanting to get to the main event...Tim sensed that and kept his words short and sweet.
Mat Fitchett vs. "The Ace Of Anarchy" Davey Vega vs. Gary Jay(w/ Dorian Victor & Mrs. Victor) for the Heavyweight Title: This championship was carried over from the LWA Title and the WCWF Title before that, meaning its lineage goes back over a decade. "Nightmare" Nick Tyson defeated Frankie Big Balls at the first LWA show on October 25th of 2003 in a match for the WCWF Championship, renaming it the LWA Title at that time. Other LWA titleholders included Frankie, Adam Raw, Ryan Ash, Gary Jay(then Gary The Barn Owl, later Gary The Night Owl and Gerald James), Pierre Abernathy, Shorty Biggs, "The Future" Donovan Ruddick, Jordan Lacey, Jeremy Wyatt, K.C. Karrington, Vega, and Evan Gelistico(who was the last LWA Champion and first SLA titleholder). From there, the title was held by Gelistico, Dan Walsh, Darin Corbin, Gary Jay(for over two years!), and Fitchett. Despite being one of the final LWA Champions, Vega was the only one in this match who hadn't held the SLA version of the gold; while he won the LWA belt from Gary, he was never able to capture the SLA Title when Gary held it. Those matchups included a sixty-minute draw last December! Daffronion did the ring announcing duties for old times' sake.
The match was as wild as expected as they took it to the floor in short order. One of the craziest spots of the match took place when Vega attempted to sunset-bomb Gary to the floor and Fitchett nailed Gary with a suicide dive as Vega held Gary up in the move! Each man had their chance to walk away with the belt, but Vega was not to be denied again on this night. Vega hit his signature brainbuster onto the knee on Gary Jay and then Mat Fitchett, pinning the champion for his title in 17:02! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a NEWWWWW St. Louis Anarchy Heavyweight Champion and Major Baisden presented the belt to the new titleholders...
...BUT WAIT A MINUTE. Several unfamiliar men stormed the ring to attack all three men...upon closer inspection, they all wore the colors of the Kansas City side of the NWL. I made out Logan & Sterling Riegel(now Jet & Jax Royal), Jake & Ryan King of the Killer City Kings(now Rudy & Geno Mancini), Kiyoshi Shizuka, and MICHAEL STRIDER! The Riegels had only appeared in this area a handful of times, but the Kings had never been here and Strider hadn't been at a St. Louis wrestling show in several years. The locker room emptied as wrestlers with NWL STL shirts fan off the K.C. interlopers; they were joined by Baisden and Lucy Mendez(now Carolia Rodriguez) as Baisden read them the riot act about interfering with the event. The STL side clearer the ring, capped off by K.L.D. Awesome-Bombing a Riegel over the top rope onto his compatriots!
Things settled down and the three participants in the main event had a chance to speak on the situation at hand. Vega was particularly emotional as the final SLA Champion (though the championship will continue in Pro Wrestling Championship Series as the Gateway Heritage Championship). (NWL name update: Vega & Fitchett will be a tag team as Davey Gibson & Mathew Grundy; Gary Jay will be Jay Lutz and Dorian Victor will be Emmett DuBois.) The show finished with the three men crowd-surfing around the ring, courtesy of the fans; I'M NOT STRONG!
Post-show, I touched base with a lot of people. I officially met Mr. Baisden and introduced myself; if he ever needs a consultant on the St. Louis scene, I know a guy. Talked to Ryan King, who teams with Mark Sterling in Metro Pro. Wish I'd had a chance to talk to Strider, but I'll see him at Metro Pro in a few weeks. Myself and Ben Simon met up with Brian Kelley and Gary Weiss at Denny's; I had blueberry pancakes along with hash browns and scrambled eggs. I just had water to drink since I was going to be up late as it was...heh.
I'm doing my best to compile the NWL name changes. Jake Dirden will be Jack Foster and I noted a few others above. I'm not as familiar with the Kansas City crew so that part will be trickier. A lot can happen between now and the new group's debut in January...nn that note, here's how the rest of the year shapes up.
-Saturday is Dynamo Pro Wrestling's final show of the year at The Ready Room in St. Louis. Mike Outlaw defends the Heavyweight Title against Brandon Aarons. Ricky Cruz faces Jake Dirden for the final time(as Ricky is retiring at the end of the year and Dirden is off to NWL). Brandon Espinosa defends the MWR Missouri Title against Matt Kenway. Much appreciation to my co-workers who are covering my Saturday shift, so I will be there...woo. For those in the Cape Girardeau area, Cape Championship Wrestling is in Delta, MO with Brandon Barbwire defending the Heavyweight Title against Hollis Giroux.
-Sunday is Wrestling Over Everything in Swansea. LaMarcus Clinton faces Wrestling Invades America Heavyweight Champion Leone Mephisto to finally crown a WOE titleholder. Billy McNeil defends the WIA/WOE Interstate Title against Jake Parnell. Bodily Harm(Jimmy D & Bobby D) defend the WIA/WOE Tag Titles against 2.0(Da'Marius Jones & B.T. Daramola).
-Friday 12/2: High Risk Wrestling returns to Warsaw, MO with Mike Sydal defending the Heavyweight Title against Davey Richards, plus Justin D'Air defends the Mayhem Title against Mike Outlaw in a last-man-standing match. Also Babewatch(Brandon Espinosa & Brandon Aarons) defend the Tag Titles against Danny Adams & Matt Kenway, Angelina Love faces "Miss Natural" Heather Patera, and Jay Howard defends the NWA Missouri Title against Paco Gonzalez.
-Saturday 12/3: Metro Pro Wrestling has its final show in Kansas City, Kansas and I will finally make it to one of their events. Ace Steel defends the Central States Title against Nate Redwing in a lumberjack match. The Heavyweight Title tournament wraps up with Devin Thomas facing Sterling and Dirden locking up with Mike Sydal in the semifinals; the winners meet later in the night to decide the champion. Vega & Fitchett defend the Tag Titles against The Commission(Gelistico & Abernathy) in one of Pierre's last in-ring appearances. Also, The Honky Tonk Man will be in the house. Closer to home, the Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance has its monthly event at the South Broadway Athletic Club with some vacant championships to fill...
-Saturday 12/10: There will be three choices in the greater St. Louis area. PWCS has its Season Three finale in Edwardsville, IL(moved from Granite City) with the undercard matches determining which teams will square off for the season championship. The show will feature Arik Cannon vs. Mat Fitchett, Darin Corbin vs. Danny Adams, and the final encounter between long-time opponents Gary Jay and Pierre Abernathy. SICW has its monthly offering in East Carondelet, IL with Ron Powers defending the Classic Title against Vic The Bruiser and Hall Of Fame manager "The Mouth Of The South" Jimmy Hart in the house. Finally, World Powerhouse Wrestling is in Collinsville with The Searcher & Scar defending the Tag Titles against Curtis Payne & Damian Blade.
Well, this took a while to finish...I was sick as a dog for the first part of the week and needed my energy for other concerns. Glad to finish it up before this weekend's events, after which I'll be writing once again. See you at the wrestling shows, all.
That's my special comment for this, the forty-ninth wrestling show I've attended in the year 2016. Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

SLA Special Comment (Part 1)
Now, as promised, a special comment about Friday's St. Louis Anarchy show at the Spaulding Hall Club in Alton, Illinois.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
From its beginnings as a backyard promotion called the WCWF to one of the most unique independent groups in the area as the Lethal Wrestling Alliance to its most recent incarnation as St. Louis Anarchy, this group has been a unique brand in the Midwest. My first LWA show was in the summer of 2004 when Gateway Championship Wrestling was on a hiatus; they had a very enthusiastic fanbase who extolled their virtues on the Internets. When GCW returned, several LWA competitors became regulars for the promotion; a slight rivalry ensued as LWA fans felt like their guys weren't represented well on GCW shows and weren't shy about expressing that sentiment. Despite that, they had their own distinct product that embraced the "sports entertainment" side of the business and promoted musical acts and comedy videos on their shows.
As the promotion was in its transition to St. Louis Anarchy, they began a working relationship with the Texas-based Anarchy Championship Wrestling. Several wrestlers traveled to and from Texas to work both groups; a few even moved from Texas to St. Louis. The most notable of those competitors was A.C.H., who has made a splash in Ring Of Honor and in Japanese wrestling in recent years. They also made more of an effort to bring in nationally-known stars. It's hard to believe, but I never missed a St. Louis Anarchy show...I even went to the mini-show in a parking lot in East Alton which had four matches and a handful of fans in attendance. (Look it up.)
Dating back to the LWA days, their guest list reads like a who's-who of wrestling: Matt Sydal, Alex Shelley, MsChif, Chris Sabin, Samoa Joe, Lacey, Austin Aries, Mike Quackenbush, Davey Richards, Daizee Haze, Delirious, Michael Elgin, Ariya Daivari, Darin Corbin, Arik Cannon, Shane Hollister, Tyler Black(Seth Rollins), Sara Del Rey, Ricochet, Chuck Taylor, Claudio Castagnoli(Antonio Cesaro), El Generico(who has been rumored to have some connection to WWE superstar Sami Zayn, but nothing has been conclusively proven), Colt Cabana, Athena(Ember Moon), A.C.H., Robert D. Evans, Tony Kozina, Akira Tozawa, Kyle O'Reilly, Portia Perez, Johnny Gargano, Raven, T.J. Perkins, King(Bad Luck) Fale, Jessicka Havok, Sami Callihan, Heidi Lovelace, Jonathan Gresham, Mark Andrews, Travis Banks, Pete Dunne, B-Boy, Roderick Strong, The Young Bucks(Matt & Nick Jackson), Chris Hero, Takaaki Watanabe(EVIL), Trevor Lee, Cedric Alexander, Candice LeRae, Louis Lyndon, Tommaso Ciampa, Sugar Dunkerton, Trik Davis, D.J. Shiima Xion(or simply D.J. Z, if you prefer), Martin Stone, Chip Day, Aaron Solow, Aaron Epic, and finally Jimmy Rave.
The show had a strong turnout, especially once word got out that it would be their final event. I crossed paths with a lot of familiar faces and made some new friends as well: Papa Hales of Wrestling Twitter(tm) fame and "The Marky Smark" Trina from the Last Mark Standing podcast. I appreciated the number of people who said hi and asked how I was doing...the past few months have been rocky for me but I'm working my way through it.Shoutouts in particular: Brian Kelley from Missouri Wrestling Revival, Ben Simon, Drew Abbenhaus, Sarah Rose, Sophie Darling, Jennifer Kieule, Tommy Peterson, David McCutcheon, Mike Chapman, James & Aaron (Roy) Lewis, Greg Flores, Jeff Milovich, Jason Cline, John T, Cearan McGrath, Corey Goodman of Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketskip, John Middendorff, Scott Woll, Bill Volz and Brandon Messmer from the Rent Is Due Podcast, Robert Schwent, and a bunch of people who, regrettably, I'm having difficulty attaching names to but I know their faces(yay social media area). You can bug me about that at the next show I attend.
Saw a few notable wrestling-related names in the house as well; Michael Elgin was promoting his new Glory Pro Wrestling group, which will debut in the Alton venue in 2017. I also saw Ace Steel and Lucy Mendez in the house, giving me a hint about later events...
Your ring announcer was Sarah Rose; your referee was Jason Pemberton.
Promoter Pierre Abernathy started the show; he had rarely appeared in an "official" capacity for SLA in recent years, preferring to focus on behind-the-scenes matters. He acknowledged the situation and introduced National Wrasslin' League promoter Major Baisden to a mixed response. (There is already a "National Wrestling League" in existence, thus the "Wrasslin'".) He joked that it was his first time stepping into a wrestling ring, but he outlined his vision for the NWL and seemed to garner some support from the more skeptical observers. The main focus of the promotion's advertising has been the rivalry between the St. Louis and Kansas City branches...and Pierre would be a big part of the NWL side of things. (I will work out a full scorecard for the name changes in due time.) Fans chanted for Major to "Sign The Pizza Guy", as the guy from the concession stand/bar who delivers pizzas to the wrestling fans had become a minor celebrity in his own right. Major acknowledged that the Thursday shows weren't his first choice, but he hoped to be able to move the events to weekends in the near future.
The Hooligans(Devin & Mason Cutter)(w/ Uncle Leo) vs. The Viking War Party("American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph & "Littlest Viking" Jake Parnell): The Hooligans first came to prominence in the St. Louis area as part of the LWA, holding their Tag Team Titles on two occasions and also being the first SLA Tag Team Champions. In recent years, they've racked up an impressive resume of championships all over the country. This was Uncle Leo's first appearance in St. Louis Anarchy, though he's become their regular manager in other promotions. Rudolph was once one of the LWA "Superfans" and eventually trained to wrestle, becoming a major force in both singles competition and as a part of the Vikings team. These two teams have a long history as both rivals and allies; they've fought across the U.S. and crossed paths in the SLA Tag Title tournament as well. This was a wild way to kick off the in-ring portion of the show as the teams brawled all over the place, much to the delight of the fans in attendance. SLA has always had fairly relaxed rule enforcement and disqualifications rarely happen, so weapons came into play on the floor. The match boiled down to the "bar fight" squareoff that tends to happen in the Hooligans' matches; the four men sat in chairs and traded punches. For a change of pace, this exchange actually led to the end of the match as Devin Cutter simply pummeled Parnell to the mat and pinned him in 15:53...all righty then. Both teams spoke to the fans after the match(which would become a trend for the evening, understandably so); however, Rudolph stunned the fans by announcing that the Vikings would go their separate ways. It seemed to be an amicable split as the two remain friends, but they will be focusing on their singles careers.
"Dad Bod" Sean Orleans vs. Chris Crunk vs. Kody Lane vs. Ken Lee: I was unclear on whether Kody was going by Lane or Krash; I think it said Lane on his gear, but he had gone by Kody Krash in previous appearances. Crunk and Lee team up as the Spring Street Suicide Squad in the southeast and I ass/u/me they traveled to the show with Jimmy Rave. It's tough to get a read on people in this format of a match, but I plan to look up some of their other work. I'm still getting used to Orleans as a fan favorite; it reminds me of when Sean Vincent first took that career path and I felt a bit dirty to be rooting for him. Orleans was decked out in random Kinesio Tape(a la WWE wrestlers like Cesaro), telling the fans "I've heard it helps!" It was a fun sprint and Orleans got the pin on Crunk in 6:03 after a double Stone Cold Stunner on Crunk and Lee.
Donovan Danhausen vs. Slade Sludge: Danhausen had appeared for Anarchy a handful of times in the past; the fans recognized him and gave him a "Welcome Back" chant. One of my friends noted the obvious C.M. Punk influence in his ring gear and tattoos. Sludge began appearing for Anarchy fairly recently, but I had first seen him at Outlaw Wrestling. They had a solid matchup and Danhausen won with a sitout powerbomb in 6:24.
"Absolute" Ricky Starks vs. Kiyoshi Shizuka(w/ Greg Jovi): This was Shizuka's Anarchy debut and Jovi presented him as one of his masked army. Starks said that he had an epiphany; Vince McMahon DID NOT OWN HIM and he tore up his WWE contract, saying he would staying with St. Louis Anarchy FOREVER! (.........so who's telling him?.........) Anywho, fun match...I did note that Shizuka was another guy who typically wrestles in the Kansas City area. Starks won with his version of the Angel's Wings in 8:43...given the move's similarity to a pretty famous finisher, I wonder if he should call it the Ode To Paul? #AllHail #AllHale
Mike Outlaw vs. Kevin Lee Davidson: Outlaw and K.L.D. had told me about this match the week before at South Broadway; I really liked their match at Dynamo Pro and they told me that their recent bout at Proving Ground Pro was even better. Both guys are on the verge of moving up in the wrestling world and I've been fortunate to see them learn and grow as competitors. In fact, I think it was at an Anarchy show that pre-wrestling Outlaw introduced himself to me(coming to the unusual deduction that I "looked like someone important") and asked me about training spots in the area. K.L.D. rose to the top of the area's scene pretty quickly and was one of the first major signings of the new NWL group; after his December matches in Metro Pro and PWCS, he'll officially be known as Todd Letterman. (Adjusting the crowd chants may take some time.) Outlaw won their Dynamo encounter and I hadn't heard who emerged victorious in PGP. As expected, these guys had a tremendous matchup...Davidson cut off Outlaw on the top rope and delivered an impressive Regal Roll off the second rope! The finishing spinebuster was just the icing on the cake and the big man scored a major victory in 10:01.
"Risky Business" Everett Connors vs. Jimmy Rave: Rave's appearance was the product of Mat Fitchett's open challenge to defend his Heavyweight Title...I had tweeted about wanting Anarchy to bring in Rave, so Rave responded and the show's original main event was set to be Fitchett-Rave for the championship. (That is as close as I'll ever come to booking a match, for the record.) However, the card was subject to change and the title match was altered, so Rave faced Connors instead. Connors is one of the youngest members of the St. Louis wrestling scene and has gotten quite a few opportunities thus far, including matches with D.J. Z and Grado. Rave was an alumnus of NWA Wildside, a Georgia promotion that produced such competitors as A.J. Styles, Abyss, and "R-Truth" Ron Killings; he was also known as the "Crown Jewel" of Prince Nana's Embassy in ROH.
Before the match, Evan Gelistico & Danny Adams officially granted Connors his separation from The Cause so he could "be himself"; Connors then made his entrance in his Justin Beiber-inspired attire. However, the seemingly-peaceful separation turned ugly and Connors fought off his former stablemates, establishing himself as the fan favorite for this match with the veteran rulebreaker Rave. They had a strong bout with a lot of close calls either way, but Rave put him away with the Ghanarea(snap cradle Olympic Slam, a la Jeremy Wyatt's Lightning Spiral) in 15:46. Rave complimented Connors afterwards and thanked the fans and promotion for having him in St. Louis...thank you much for being here, sir.
You know, this is getting long, so I'm gonna make this a two-parter if you don't mind...second half will be posted in the next few days. Stay tuned...Same Pat-Time, Same Pat-Channel.

Now that his issues are behind him, he has bigger goals in mind...but he was interrupted by Gunner Miller & Agent/Attorney Jeff G. Bailey. Bailey mocked Ashworth for his temporary servitude to Nemesis, saying Miller would never be a slave to any man. Bailey said that he didn't want to get too personal(uh-oh...), but Jacob's marriage had gone south; he said that a slave who couldn't keep his wife and needed a chair to beat Nemesis wasn't much of a man. Ashworth retorted to Miller that if HE was that much of a man, then why did he need Bailey to talk for him and lead him around? Ashworth said that if Bailey was telling Miller what to do, then maybe Miller was Bailey's slave...and if he was that much of a man and Ashworth wasn't, then he should have no problem with defending his title against him. Bailey simply said that he didn't deserve a title shot...Ashworth continued his verbage and punctuated it with a shove to Miller. Miller then spoke for himself, saying that he'd be fine with giving Ashworth his match...
-Elsewhere: Nemesis sat at home...he asked whether Jacob truly defeated him before breaking down into a combination of laughter and coughs...

Blue added that the fans had once loved Buck but they gradually started to boo him; he said that Slim J would never return to the building after what they did to him at Fright Night. LIGHTS OFF LIGHTS ON and Slim J appeared in the ring with a gladiator helmet and shield (plus new ring attire). Team Tag seemed unfazed, but Slim J dropped Spectra with a neckbreaker as Blue and Buck retreated from the ring. LIGHTS OFF LIGHTS ON and Slim J was gone.

-The Hooligans(Devin & Mason Cutter)(w/ Uncle Leo) d. The Viking War Party("American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph & "Littlest Viking" Jake Parnell); the match broke down into a bar fight with the four sitting in chairs and punching each other. -"Gorgeous" Jordan Lacey d. "The Incredible Primal Prodigy" Matt Kenway (Look At Him) after the Jenna Jameson(swinging uranagi) (2:02).
