Now, as promised, a special comment about the Dynamo Pro Wrestling show on Friday, August 17th at the Concordia Turners Gymnasium in St. Louis, Missouri.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
Dynamo really loaded up on shows in August with events in Grafton, St. Louis, and Glen Carbon. We knew about the six-man tag team main event going into this show...on the day of the show, it was announced that a title-vs.-title bout would take place between D-1 Champion Mike Outlaw and Italian Wrestling Association Champion Jon Webb. That was about it for prior knowledge of the evening's matches...
Your ring announcer was Chris Roedel; your referee was Jay King; your home video commentators were Luke Roberts & Patrick Brandmeyer.
Camaro Jackson vs. Tony Esteem: Kenny Alfonso hasn't appeared for Dynamo in a while, so his Alpha Omega partner Jackson has been flying solo. His presence might have been welcome here with Esteem's tag team partner Jimmi LaFleur potentially waiting in the wings. Thankfully he stayed out of the action here and we had a solid opening bout with no chicanery. Jackson picked up the win after a modified Shining Wizard in 5:37.
Outtkast vs. Shiroi Senshi: This was an interesting matchup with the complete unknown factor of Senshi against the veteran former champion. Senshi used his martial arts background mixed with some underhanded tactics, not allowing Outtkast to pick up any significant momentum. Outtkast had to edge out a close victory, ducking a buzzsaw kick and getting the quick rollup pin in 5:55...there seems to be more to Senshi than meets the eye.
New Women's Champion "The Empress Of Evil" Rahne Victoria made her first appearance with the belt...she didn't have a scheduled match for the night, so she had plenty of opportunity to gloat over her victory. She got the better of her two long-time rivals Savanna Stone and "The Little Blue Dragon" Tootie Lynn Ramsey and vowed to continue her reign of evil by any means necessary.
"The Caramel Bear" C.J. Shine vs. Jimmi LaFleur: LaFleur had momentum on his side after his recent upset win over "Lights Out" Adrian Surge, but Shine was looking to derail his run of success. The match could have easily gone either way, but outside factors played a role as Tony Esteem made his way to ringside. As Shine rallied on offense, Esteem blatantly tripped him as he came off the ropes, resulting in a disqualification in 9:36. The Arch City Mercenaries beat down Shine until Camaro Jackson came to his aid...and co-promoter Crystal Yount did her best Theodore Long impression and ordered an impromptu tag match (playa).
"The Caramel Bear" C.J. Shine & Camaro Jackson vs. The Arch City Mercenaries(Tony Esteem & Jimmy LaFleur): While Shine and Jackson had plenty of success with other partners, this was their first match as a tag team compared to the more experienced duo of Esteem & LaFleur. Shine & Jackson worked fairly well together and picked up some momentum, but the match broke down in the late minutes with Jackson and LaFleur battling on the floor. As the referee's attention was on the outside men, Esteem delivered an unseen low blow on Shine and got the cheap pinfall in 9:55.
Intermission~! Crystal acknowledged that it was Outtkast's birthday, encouraging the fans to sing Happy Birthday...we weren't all on key, but it was good enough for government work. Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm): One Sprite. I scored a couple of leftover hot dogs after the show was over...I got my handshakes too, so indie payday achieved.
D-1 Champion Mike Outlaw vs. Italian Wrestling Assocation Heavyweight Champion "The Hybrid Ace" Jon Webb, title-vs.-title: I'm almost positive this was the first one-on-one meeting between these two and both men had championships to their name. (That's not even mentioning Webb's status as World League Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.) Outlaw had the advantage in size and power, but Webb had the edge in speed and agility as well as experience. The match could have easily gone either way, but an unexpected visitor left us without a winner as "The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz made a surprise return to attack both men! That left us with a no-contest in 12:13 but that was hardly the big story...Cruz spoke his mind, saying that Dynamo's competition was a far cry from what it was when he was the Heavyweight Champion and he was back to send a message to the current roster. I'm sure neither Outlaw nor Webb will take too kindly to those sentiments...
"Lights Out" Adrian Surge, Jackal, & "Mr. Mustache" Ricky Rodriguez vs. Heavyweight Champion "The Wind Of Destruction" Makaze & Tag Team Champions The Agents Of Chaos(Viktor Von Stein & Xavier Shadowz): The history with these six men goes back for months as the fan favorite team was riding the momentum of non-title wins over the titleholders. Von Stein had become increasingly unstable on the heels of the Agents' loss to Jackal & Rodriguez, not to mention Ricky outsmarting him to win the battle royal in Grafton. Each side had its own continuity, though I would have probably given a slight edge to Makaze's crew as the Agents had run interference for him in the past. I would have predicted a win for Surge's team to give them added momentum, but the rulebreaking trio regained some mojo on this night; Shadowz pinned Rodriguez in 14:20 after he and Von Stein hit the fireman's-carry Flapjack/Diamond Cutter combo. Despite the win, all was not well in the championship camp as Von Stein was still blinded by rage...he actually throttled his own partners before storming out of the ring to the backstage area. The Tag Champs may be their own worst enemies in the end...we shall see.
A lot has happened in the past month and a half, of course...doing my best to keep up on everything. Life got REALLY busy in a short time and writing these commentaries has fallen by the wayside, but I have every intention of getting back up to speed.
