SICW Special Comment

PACKED house in East Carondelet...I was lucky to get a chair on Saturday night. Was told they had sold almost 200 advance tickets and the final attendance was reportedly close to 300.

The gimmick of the night was Ron Powers acting as manager for Travis Cook's proteges...Cook directly manages Dave Vaughn and Ken Kasa, okay. He's had past connections to Big Texan and Waco, fine. Was he just "scouting" other heels when he was at ringside for Max Archer, Bull Bronson, Jake Dirden, and Alexandre Rudolph/Gary Jackson? Was newcomer Brent Myers just unworthy of his notice? On top of that, his show-opening promo clarified that he wanted to be the one to win the title back from Ricky Cruz...so who was he truly supporting in the main event matchup between Cruz and Texan?

Apparently it took the heels three matches to figure out how to cheat without getting caught...Powers gave Archer a taste of kendo stick after the opener. Archer's got a weird dichotomy going between MMWA and SICW...he's Junior Heavyweight Champion in Missouri while he can't seem to buy a win in Illinois(last month being an exception). Heck, in SICW he feuded with ring announcer Jeff Vernetti(and lost).

A friend of mine is a big fan of Bull Bronson. He's not an "MMA guy", a smaller flippy dude, or a "body guy"(tm Carlito Colon)...he's just a big guy who kills people. I would have cringed if he had been climbing the ropes in the more-fragile previous ring.

Rudolph turned down Powers' support, then Gary said he wouldn't mind having Powers in his corner...but then they just wrestled the match with Gary as the face and Rudolph as the heel like the pre-match promo hadn't happened. Jackson and Powers fought each other about a hundred times so they have plenty of history. It wasn't too clear what Powers was trying to do when he got up on the apron near the end of the match...

The show-ending brawl included Powers throwing a table into the ring...I didn't see it, but apparently it hit Chaz Wesson rather painfully in the ribs. Ouch.

Regarding the MMWA title situations...sounds like Osborne will be sticking around as Battle Royal Champion, but the Tag Titles seem to be vacant as I was told Chase King wasn't acknowledged as co-champ last week(partner LaMarcus Clinton hasn't wrestled there for a few months).

I do my best to keep tabs on the significant indy promotions in the country...Wrestling Is Fun seems to be a spinoff of CHIKARA so I've been adding those results. There are also the handful of ECW tributes like House Of Hardcore and Extreme Rising. Other than AAPW(which I'm finally pulling up via Youtube), I try to leave the central Illinois stuff to Crimefighter since he knows it better.

Going by the SICW TV show on Sunday, the lineup for Fairmont City has already been set(Cruz-Vaughn, Hargas-Powers)...otherwise the show-ending chaos would have been a nice setup for a Survivor Series-style elimination tag match on Thanksgiving weekend. Also, it sounds like we're getting an Old School Warrior reunion...dinner menu calls for chops. :-D
