The attendance seemed to be a bit down from the first event, but the fans did have a good time. They seemed a bit subdued at times, but they were into the high points of the show.
Some minor team reorganization had taken place as Jeremy Wyatt defected from Team Anarchy(where he was a substitute member in the first place) to the Egobusters. While Blacklist and Resurgence are clearly faces and the Egobusters are clearly heels, Anarchy's an odd mix since the team was formed from the St. Louis Anarchy roster with the best possible competitors. That meant fan favorites Davey Vega and Mat Fitchett would be in the same stable as rulebreakers Evan Gelistico, Pierre Abernathy, Alex Castle, and (temporarily) Wyatt.
At any rate, the scoreboard at the start of the night had the Egobusters in the lead at 3-0. Blacklist was 2-1, Anarchy was 1-2, and Resurgence was in the basement at 0-3. Resurgence hoped to turn things around with the addition of Jake Dirden to the team, but Billy McNeil was absent once again for unknown reasons so Everett Connors was a last-minute addition to the show.
Didn't know the names of the ring announcer or the referees; I think one of the refs was named Richard White but don't hold me to that.
Everett Connors(Resurgence) vs. "The Daywalker" Alex Castle(Team Anarchy): With McNeil MIA, Connors took Rocket Mapache's place as Castle's opponent while Mapache teamed with Steven Kennedy. It was your standard underdog story as the more experienced Castle dominated the rookie...Connors mostly went for quick pinning combinations in an attempt to catch Castle by surprise. In the end, the vampire's downfall was once again the crucifix pinning combination(see what they did there?) and Everett scored the upset at 7:47, putting the Resurgence on the board at 1-3 and dropping Anarchy to a tie for third at 1-3.
Nate Redwing(Blacklist) vs. Brandon Espinosa(w/ Greg Jovi)(Egobusters): Espinosa was a surprise member of the Egobusters at Stage One, replacing Bolt Brady's announced opponent(Jordan Lacey). It was also revealed that Jovi paid off Christian Rose to ditch the Blacklist, so they were in need of a new teammate...that led to this matchup with Espinosa facing an unknown opponent. Had seen Redwing's name on 3XW show results from Iowa but this was his STL-area debut...big dude. This was a role reversal from the opener with a bigger face against a smaller heel. CHEATING TO WIN~! made the difference; Redwing picked up Espy for a slam and Espy "accidentally" hit the ref as he was flailing around to escape. That led to Jovi blinding Redwing with powder and Espinosa capitalizing with the jumping DDT for the win in 5:42. Egobusters 4-0, Blacklist 2-2.
It looks like Mat Fitchett will continue to wrestle, but only for the remainder of the current PWCS season. Pierre went all SHOOTY~! when he said that Fitchett worked for him in St. Louis Anarchy and wouldn't let him off the hook as a member of Team Anarchy. Alex Castle chimed in...but only to say that they shouldn't take it to court since he has some legal issues. Har har.
"The Hoss Of The Highway" J.D. Riggs vs. Mad Dog McDowell: This was the result of an open challenge on McDowell's part, claiming his competition at Stage One to be "small fry" and wanting a bigger test. He got it in the form of Riggs, another Iowa competitor who was taller and billed at 400 lbs. These two didn't seem to click too well, at least from my perspective. Nonetheless, McDowell got the cheap rollup pin with feet on the ropes in 5:48.
Steven Kennedy & Rocket Mapache(Resurgence) vs. The Submission Squad(Evan Gelistico & Pierre Abernathy)(Team Anarchy): Kennedy and Mapache worked pretty well together, almost as if they'd been tag team partners in a past life or something. (High five! Anyone?) This was a solid matchup...Evan & Pierre double-teamed Kennedy near the end of the bout with Evan's modified Go 2 Sleep followed by Pierre's Culture Shock, but the referee wouldn't count Pierre's pin cover since Pierre wasn't the legal man. Unfortunately, the referee nearly whiffed on counting Kennedy's winning pin on Gelistico since he momentarily forgot that they WERE both legal. It happens...and the three-count did occurr via Kennedy's bridging O'Connor Roll in 8:35. The Resurgence continued to, er, "resurge" as they rose to 2-3...Anarchy dropped to the basement at 1-4.
Brady A. Dezire vs. Code Name: Dangerous Deveroux: I know nothing about the new masked guy Deveroux. Dezire wrestled at Stage One, teaming with J.J. Garrett in a loss to McDowell & Barackus. Unfortunately this match didn't have much heat as it was between two guys who are new to the area. CHEAT TO WIN~! was in effect again; Deveroux loosened a turnbuckle pad, delivered a low blow as the referee was fixing the pad, and then won with a low-altitude sliding forearm smash in 6:06.
Makaze & Outtkast(Blacklist) vs. "The Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt & "Walking Reality" Dan Walsh(w/ Greg Jovi)(Egobusters): Makaze defeated Wyatt in the main event of Stage One, leading to this matchup. Don't think Makaze and Outtkast had teamed up before, but Wyatt & Walsh joined forces at a recent St. Louis Anarchy show. Solid bout; don't remember much about it, but then I lost my stupid note sheet(NOOOOO~!). Walsh pinned Outtkast after his cobra clutch slam finisher in 13:22. Egobusters 5-0, Blacklist 2-3.
Davey Vega(Team Anarchy) vs. "Dirdey" Jake Dirden(Resurgence): Dirden played the subtle heel role in this one; an oddity since the Resurgence team consists of fan favorites otherwise. I was wondering how well these two would work together as this was their first in-ring meeting...as it turned out, they had a really strong matchup. Plenty of counterwrestling in this one with Vega trying to outmaneuver the larger Dirden. Dirden got Vega in the Asiatic Spike, but Vega kicked off the turnbuckles and flipped on top for the pin in 10:16. The two shook hands afterwards, so I guess Dirden is a face. Anarchy 2-4, Resurgence 2-4.
Jojo Bravo(Blacklist) vs. Gary Jay(w/ Greg Jovi)(Egobusters): Bravo entered with Makaze by his side and made a speech about team unity, saying that Blacklist would demonstrate a team-building exercise. As he spoke, Outtkast dragged Jovi through the entrance curtain and Nate Redwing stood guard to ensure Gary Jay couldn't follow him...and Outtkast threw Jovi into the YMCA pool outside the building! Dan Walsh hilariously fumbled around with a life preserver as he tried to get the manager out of the water...bwahahaha. The Blacklist members stayed at the entranceway to ensure the other Egobusters couldn't interfere in the main event...so we had a really good fast-paced feature contest. I don't think these two had ever crossed paths despite their mutual tenure in St. Louis Anarchy. Jojo survived Gary's signature Michinoku Driver and hit Sliced Bread #2 followed by the Samurai Driver(WA-SHING~!) for the upset win in 11:12! Blacklist 3-3, Egobuster 5-1(first loss for that stable!).
The next PWCS show will be in October, so there's plenty of time for other shakeups to occur...guess we'll see how the rest of the season shapes up.
