Comedy Part 727: So I May Finally Be Getting A Job...
Location: Corner Keg Pub (Highland, IL)
Emcee: Joe "The Animal" Lancey
After: Josh Freeman
Before: Jay Avery
Headliner: Luke Schneider
It was good to get out of the house...Joe had set up a showcase for the monthly comedy show in Highland(fourth Wednesday of every month!), so I asked about getting some stage time. A couple of friends from Highland were able to attend...I normally don't see them outside of the local rasslin shows. I'm not sure how much time I did, but it was a longer set than usual and I was able to try out some new lines...some of which were based on true stories, I shall say. The fact that it turned out to be a paid gig was a nice perk...it was also cool to see two guys I hadn't seen on stage before in Jay and Luke. The job situation seems to have turned a corner, so hopefully I'll have good news in that regard in the near future...how it'll affect my overall schedule remains to be seen. I am on the list for Helium next Tuesday, at any rate...

-Natalya Neidhart & Carmella Van Damme d. Nikki Bella & Naomi Night when Carmella pinned Nikki with a modified rollup (6:33 aired).
-Smackdown Women's Champion Becky Lynch's match never happened as Alexa Bliss attacked her in the aisleway.
-A.J. Styles d. Dean Ambrose to retain the WWE Title; John Cena did commentary. Styles took a cheapshot at Cena, triggering Cena to rush the ring; the referee stopped him and was late on the count as Ambrose had Styles pinned with an O'Connor Roll. A.J. kicked out of that predicament, but Ambrose was furious and attacked Cena at ringside; that led to Styles getting Ambrose in his own O'Connor Roll and getting the three-count with a handful of denim (14:17 aired). Cena and Ambrose had a post-match confrontation and Cena dropped both Ambrose and Styles with F-Us to close the show.

WOE Special Comment
Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Wrestling Over Everything show at the Community Center in Caseyville, Illinois.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
There seems to be an overabundance of promotions in this area and the unfortunately-acronymed WOE consists of the remnants of two: Pro Wrestling Epic(which hadn't run a show since last November) and Wrestling Invades Alton/America. As it turned out, the new boss was the same as the old boss; The Landlord revealed at the end of the final WIA event that he was the owner and promoter of the new group.
On that note, I'm still trying to learn about a newer group in the area called the National Wrestling League; they reportedly ran some matches in Madison, IL this weekend at the Gateway Motorsports Park. It sounds like they may have some connection to Metro Pro Wrestling as they seem to be based in Kansas City...more information on this group as I discover it.
The show had a modest turnout; I recognized the venue as one where Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling had run a show a few years ago. Hopefully the ring can be improved over time, as it didn't have apron banners and the ropes seemed loose at times (giving people trouble when they tried to climb the turnbuckles).
Your ring announcer was Chris Kaelin; your referee was Kurt Darling.
The Landlord kicked off the show...as I've often noted, I feel like people go to independent wrestling shows to see something different from what's on television. At any rate, he announced that the next show(Sunday 10/30 in Swansea) would feature a tournament to crown the first WOE Heavyweight Champion; not sure what that meant for the night's main event, but more on that later. He noted that he's fully in charge and won't have to deal with Tyler Copeland's influence any more; that brought out Copeland, who was probably wondering if anyone got the license plate number of that face turn. Landlord conveniently had a few security guards in place to keep Copeland away from him...Hardcore Andy had a busy night in that regard. Words were exchanged and Copeland managed to briefly take down Landlord and get in a shot or two before security pulled him off. Landlord told him to worry about his match with Gavin Alexander later in the night...
Billy McNeil vs. "The Millenial" Danny Adams: HEY, I know these guys. Billy found himself transfixed by the low-hanging lights in the building...when Adams questioned his focus, Billy noted "There's one RIGHT BEHIND YOU..." McNeil was one of the people who had trouble on the ropes, so the high-flying was kept to a minimum in this opener; despite that, they had a really good bout. Adams had an advantage in size, but experience won the day; McNeil scored the victory after a flying tornado DDT off the second rope in 10:00 on the dot.
Moondog Pongo vs. "Da Muscle" Robby McCann: Hadn't seen much of these guys in a while...I think they were on the first couple of WIA shows I attended. The longer-time area fans are big fans of Moondogs by any name; Moondog Rover is extremely popular around these parts. McCann sported Confederate flag logos on his attire, which can be a tricky thing in this area as we're pretty close to the proverbial Mason-Dixon Line. It wasn't a technical classic, but I suppose it wasn't supposed to be; the fans were into the match and that's what counts, especially considering neither guy is a regular in this area. McCann delivered a Pedigree, then went to his corner for an international object to load his kneepad(OLDSCHOOL)...he connected with a knee trembler using the loaded kneepad, scoring the ill-begotten win in 10:47.
Nelson Sixx vs. Barackus: Sixx was one of several people who I was seeing for the first time on the show; he's apparently a regular in the central Illinois area and competes for Proving Ground Pro. According to YouTube, these two had crossed paths once before in PGP; Sixx was subbing for Chase King. While Sixx attempted to be the fan favorite in contrast to the rulebreaker Barackus, the fans were more familiar with the big man and seemed to support him a bit more. Sixx made a good accounting for himself against his larger adversary, but fell to the clawhold Flatliner in 7:02.
"Infamous" Tyler Copeland vs. "The Slaughterhouse Nightmare" Gavin Alexander(w/ Veronica Pain), bodyboard(stretcher) match: The ring announcer wasn't too clear on the stipulation; as it turned out, one had to push the stretcher through the entry door in order to win. With Copeland suddenly in the position of being a fan favorite, Alexander became the rulebreaker by default and embraced the more sadistic side of his character. Gavin was accompanied by his new gothic valet who was adorned with a bloody Bray Wyatt-style sheep mask. It was essentially a hardcore-style bout and plenty of weapons came into play: Chair, chain, kendo stick, and even a ladder. At one point Copeland was laid out on a ladder that was propped up against the ring apron, then Gavin attempted a somersault dive off the apron only for Copeland to move out of the way...the ladder barely survived. Gavin even brought light tubes into play and both men used them, leaving Copeland bloody...I don't know if that level of violence fit into the format of this benefit show for local firefighters, especially with a lot of little kids in the audience. (That's just one dork's viewpoint, as always.) At any rate, they fought their way over to the stretcher as I wondered if Copeland would be able to push the massive Alexander through the door...he was finally able to incapacitate Gavin with a chair long enough to push him out the door in 18:45. The ring announcer attempted to get a post-match interview, but Copeland was attacked by the debuting Richard Faith and Alexander. This feud...MUST CONTINUE!
Cue intermission...my Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm): Two Coca-Colas and a Hershey bar. Thanks to Timothy Miller for the first of those frosty beverages, by the way. During the intermission, WIA Heavyweight/Interstate Champion Leone Mephisto entered the ring to graciously offer the fans an opportunity for a picture with the champ. Of course, it would cost a modest fee of $100...but hey, you don't get the opportunity to meet a dual champion every day! The fans' indifference to his offer persuaded him to lower his asking price, but he finally left the ring in frustration over no one taking him up on his sales pitch. Heh.
LaMarcus Clinton vs. "The Adonis" Brian Valor: I think Valor had worked WIA in the recent past, but this was my first time seeing him; from what I understand, he regularly wrestles in Tennessee. The guy's definitely in good shape and did well in the rulebreaker rule in front of an unfamiliar crowd. In the vein of Samson of Biblical times, I feel like LMC may have lost some of his mojo since he got his hair cut...however, the impressive agility is still there. While the ropes made it tricky to go aerial, LMC was able to maneuver into position for his Buff Blockbuster finisher...that allowed him to pick up the three-count in 12:58.
"2.0" Da'Marius Jones vs. Richard Faith(w/ Veronica Pain), no-DQ match: Jones was scheduled to face Adrian Silvers, but Silvers was not there and Jones issued an open challenge for a no-disqualification bout. The fan favorite/rulebreaker structure was REALLY unclear in this one as Jones was acting extremely arrogant, but Faith had just established himself as an ally to the newly-villainous Gavin Alexander. Without going too "inside baseball", Faith had wrestled in this area a handful of times under a different identity but this was my first time seeing him in person as this character. The no-DQ stip was there as an excuse for Veronica to get involved; Jones seemed to have the match won after the Paydirt, but Veronica distracted him and then stunned him with a slap to the face. Faith capitalized with a Blackhole Slam for the win in 5:13 (thank you, Facebook video)...afterwards, Gavin Alexander made his way to the ring to assist Faith in the beatdown of Jones. Does this make Jones a fan favorite now? Guess we'll see...
"The INKredible T@2" Darius Lee vs. Blake Belakis: I was seeing Lee for the first time on this night; he lives up to his name as he has quite a bit of artwork on his person. Both guys seemed to come out as fan favorites; I referred to it as "a St. Louis Anarchy match in front of an SICW crowd", if that makes sense. Lee had more faith in the ropes than I did as he pulled off a nice Lionsault. Wouldn't mind seeing this match again in front of a more receptive crowd, but it was a lot of fun...this was the only match where the ring announcer mentioned a time limit(though he did make time announcements during the other bouts), so I quickly predicted a draw. Shockingly, that was exactly how it turned out as the time limit expired at 15:00. The two mutually decided on a rematch at a future show with no time limit...I'd be okay with that.
WIA Heavyweight/Interstate Champion Leone Mephisto vs. PWE Heavyweight Champion Brandon Aarons, unification match: With a WOE Heavyweight Champion being crowned at the next show, I don't know what this match truly determined...hopefully the unified PWE/WIA Champ will get the top seed in the tournament or something. This feud has gone for a LONG time, primarily taking place in PWE. I referred to Mephisto a few times to people as one of the most underrated guys in the area; he's developed into a really solid rulebreaking character. However, he's burned a lot of bridges and that's left him with only a handful of places to work.
At any rate, these guys had a really good main event...Shenanigans(tm) ensued when Mephisto tried to throw powder in Aarons' face, but Aarons ducked and the referee was blinded instead. Aarons delivered a superkick and Hairflip Suplex(half-nelson suplex), but there was no one to make the count since there was only one official for the night. Mephisto brought in the PWE belt and took out Aarons with it...but it took the official some time to recover and the delayed count only reached two. Despite that, Aarons was just about done and an Air Raid Crash on the belt finished things in 12:14 (the referee still wasn't totally coherent and missed the use of the belt). Ladies and gentlemen, we have a newwwww unified PWE/WIA Champion! Mephisto celebrated with his full set of hardware...ironically, it was Aarons' old enemy Tyler Copeland who checked on him after the match and helped him to his feet. While the first champion of WOE will be crowned in October, Mephisto closed the book as the final titleholder for both Pro Wrestling Epic and Wrestling Invades America...we'll see if that has an impact on next month's championship tournament!
Lame personal stuff: I've had a few job interviews but haven't heard any responses yet...I have two interviews scheduled for this week and hopefully my situation will improve in the near future. Once again, any recommendations are appreciated and I've received a lot of them in the past several weeks. As I put it: When your brain has you convinced that there's no way off the island, you don't see how many bridges truly exist. I can only hope to eventually repay all of those who have lent me a hand in recent times.
October looks like this:
-Saturday 10/1: World League Wrestling in Troy, MO; Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling in Swansea, IL
-Saturday 10/8: Mid-Missouri Wrestling Alliance in St. Louis, MO
-Saturday 10/15: Dynamo Pro Wrestling in Glen Carbon, IL; Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling in East Carondelet, IL
-Saturday 10/22: Dynamo Pro Wrestling in St. Louis, MO (4 Hands Brewery/afternoon show)
-Saturday 10/29: Pro Wrestling Championship Series in Granite City, IL
-Sunday 10/30: Wrestling Over Everything in Swansea, IL
That's my special comment for this, the forty-first wrestling show I've attended in the year 2016. Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

Lucha Underground Season 3 Episode 3
-Commentators: Matt Striker & Vampiro.
-Elsewhere: Rey Misterio Jr. continued his training with Dragon Azteca Jr....he said that he knew what Pentagon Dark did to him(broke his arm), but he cannot lose focus because they have more important battles to fight. Chavo Guerrero Jr. made a surprise appearance in the training ring and immediately turned the tables on Azteca, saying that perhaps he could teach a better lesson than Rey.
-Promoter Dario Cueto spun his Dial Of Doom to determine Heavyweight Champion Matanza Cueto's challenger for the night...and he got Willie Mack!
-Matanza Cueto(w/ Dario Cueto) d. Willie Mack after the Wrath Of The Gods(rewind powerslam) to retain the Heavyweight Title (6:02).
-Somewhere on the open road: Son Of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada watched Famous B's commercial with disdain...they were crashing at Havoc's mother's place, as she offered some Bagel Bites(tm) to the lounging wrestlers.
-Backstage in Dario's office: Johnny Mundo & Taya Valkyrie stormed into Dario's office; Mundo wanted another spin of the wheel so he could get his shot at the Heavyweight Title. Dario said that he had to settle for himself and his partners(Jack Evans & P.J. Black) getting their rematch for the Trios Titles against Fenix, Drago, & Aero Star. Mundo decided not to bother with it, saying he would be at his dojo...but Taya stuck around and Dario wondered if Mundo's loss would be her gain.
-Before the next scheduled match, Dario made an appearance to poke fun at Brian Cage and El Texano Jr. for losing in the first round of his Unique Opportunity Tournament. He said that whoever won their singles match would get the "ultimate opportunity".
-Brian Cage d. El Texano Jr. after a discus lariat (5:52). Dario told Cage that if he wanted his "ultimate opportunity", he would have to beat him two more times...it was a best-of-five series.
-Backstage in Dario's office: He received a baseball cap in the mail with Famous B's phone number on it. He also got a manila envelope with some obscure pictures...but Azteca walked into the office and Dario casually tossed the photographs into the trash. Azteca wanted to face Pentagon, but Dario really wanted to see a rematch with Black Lotus...as it turned out, she was on vacation in Hong Kong, so perhaps the Pentagon match will happen after all. Ricky Mandel was the next to enter the office and was interested in the photographs (which had mysteriously rematerialized back on Dario's desk)...Dario didn't have a match for him, but he handed off the photos to Ricky. Next in line was Chavo, who said they had to talk...
-Fenix, Drago, & Aero Star d. Jack Evans, P.J. Black, & Taya Valkyrie(subbing for Johnny Mundo) to retain the Trios Titles; Aero Star pinned Black after a middle-rope-from-outside springboard Codebreaker (9:22). Johnny Mundo ran into the fray afterwards as Evans refused to assist his Worldwide Underground partners in beating down the champs. Gift Of The Gods Champion Sexy Star hit the ring for an assist, finally putting the Worldwide Underground foursome on the same page(to some extent).
-Backstage in Dario's office: Dario spoke with Rey Misterio Jr. about Azteca's demand for a match. He said that Azteca would face Chavo next week with the winner getting the grudge match against Pentagon Dark...and Rey would be the referee.

WWE NXT
-Commentators: Tom Phillips & Corey Graves.
-Samoa Joe wasted no time in hitting the ring...he had a document which detailed NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura's medical condition after last week's altercation. Joe said Nakamura's injuries would put him on the shelf for an extended period of time...patience may be a virtue, but Joe noted that he's neither patient nor virtuous. He demanded that General Manager S. William Regal either give him his rematch with Nakamura ASAP or strip him of the title and hand it back to him. Regal said the medical document was correct, but he hadn't heard from Nakamura personally...as for Joe, he would handle that situation himself. Joe walked up to Regal on the entrance stage and told him face-to-face to "do what's right" or the rest of his NXT roster would look like Nakamura.
-Backstage: Dasha Fuentes interviewed Cedric Alexander about his main-event matchup against Andrade Almas. Tonight is his NXT debut and he vowed to prove that he's as good as he thinks he is.
-Backstage: Charly Caruso interviewed Liv Morgan about her challenge to NXT Women's Champion Asuka Urai...she refused to bow down to anyone and said that she didn't come to NXT to stay at the bottom. Asuka entered the interview area and said that they would find out if Liv was truly ready for her.
-Austin Aries d. Oney Lorcan with the Last Chancery (6:32 aired). Afterwards, Aries said that while Hideo Itami makes people "Go 2 Sleep", he makes them tap out. He wanted to call out Itami, but he knew he wouldn't show up...of course, that brought out Itami. As soon as Itami entered the ring, Aries made a quick exit.
-Debuting in two weeks: Dan Matha.
-Last week after the Cruiserweight Classic finale: Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano were gushing respect for their compatriots in the tournament...but they were attacked in the parking lot by NXT Tag Team Champions The Revival(Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder). Ciampa & Gargano got the better of the brawl and the champs retreated.
-Billie Kay d. Aliyah Areebi after IT'S THE BIG FOOT (3:16).
-Coming soon: Sanity.
-Backstage: Dasha interviewed Mandy Rose about her recent social media comments regarding Ember Moon...Mandy didn't think that Ember Moon "fits the mold".
-Next week: Asuka vs. Liv Morgan.
-Cedric Alexander d. Andrade Almas via Lumbar Check(belly-to-back double-knee backbreaker) (8:04 aired). The two shook hands after the match...Almas teased a cheapshot, but embraced Alexander instead.

Comedy Part 726: So I Still Need A Job...
Location: Helium Comedy Club
Emcee: Tina Dybal
After: Jeremy Hellwig
Before: Tiel Pierce
Sure, I get on the list at Helium and it turns out Nikki Glaser is in town and at the Westport Funny Bone's open-mic...D-OH! Haven't seen her in quite a while. At any rate, I had a few new ideas to work out, two of which came to me on the drive to the show...one of them seemed to go over pretty well. I hate this humid time of year as it messes with my sinuses to the point that I have trouble hearing...so it's tough to gauge how well my jokes are doing. Hopefully the job search will come up with something soon...otherwise the comedy will have to take a back seat.

-Mike Mizanin(w/ Maryse Ouellet-Mizanin) d. Dolph Ziggler to retain the Intercontinental Title; Maryse had been ejected from ringside, but Miz blinded Ziggler with her perfume behind the referee's back before winning with the Skull-Crushing Finale (13:01 aired).
-Randy Orton d. Erick Rowan after the RKO (2:22).
-Nikki Bella & Naomi Night d. Natalya Neidhart & Carmella Van Damme by DQ when Carmella dragged Nikki out of the ring and rammed her repeatedly into the ringside barricade (0:33).

Dynamo Special Comment
Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at the Sports Academy in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
DISCLAIMER: I'm biased. Deal with it.
The two main choices for local wrestling in the greater St. Louis area were Dynamo Pro and Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling's monthly event in East Carondelet. For the most part, a wrestling fan can't go wrong with the options in this area; I'm the type that likes to watch as much as I can. I will do my best to catch up on SICW's particulars via Wrestling Explosion, of course.
The turnout for the show was looking light at first, but the audience filled out rather nicely. It seems like DPW has had to rebuild its audience all over again with the departure from the Stratford Inn in Fenton, forcing them to focus more on the Illinois side of the river with shows in Glen Carbon and Wood River. They do have at least one upcoming show scheduled for The Ready Room in St. Louis (October 1st, if I'm not mistaken). I wouldn't call it a huge crowd and it took some doing to get the fans into the action at times, but they bought into the show as it progressed.
Your ring announcer was Chris Roedel, your assistant ring announcer was Luke Roberts, and your referees were Patrick Hook & Scott Ramsey.
C.J. Shine vs. "The Incredible Primal Prodigy" Matt Kenway (Look At Him)(w/ Sophie Darling): This was Sophie's first appearance in Kenway's corner as she had previously only managed The Snitch. Both guys are finding their footing in the wrestling industry in general and Dynamo in particular. Sophie interfered at least once, but her charge may have needed a bit more help; Shine got the win with a spinebuster(Shinebuster?) in 6:40.
Jackal vs. "The Cowboy" Ric Maverick: Maverick had been a solid fan favorite in the past, so it was a surprise when he attacked Jackal from behind before the opening bell. Maverick was more aggressive than usual, perhaps frustrated with recent in-ring setbacks. However, this would be another setback as Jackal floated over him in the corner to get the rollup pin in 5:16. Maverick snapped and attacked Jackal again, but Rocket Mapache hit the ring with a chair to run him off.
Straps Down University("The Valedictorian" Keon Option & Justin D'Air) vs. The Midnight Society(Billy McNeil & Jayson Khaos)(w/ C.J. McManus): I'm pretty sure this was a top-contenders' matchup to determine the next challengers for High Level Enterprise's Tag Team Titles. D'Air had been on the shelf with a recent leg injury, which affected a scheduled title shot he and Option had against Jack Gamble & Jon Webb in July. Big Jay Knight took his place at that time and HLE retained the titles under questionable circumstances. With McNeil & Khaos on the same page, they provided a formidable obstacle for Option & D'Air...especially with D'Air still testing out his wheels and working off the ring rust. McManus wasn't above a bit of interference on behalf of his team, either...but Option & D'Air picked up the victory on this night. Option pinned McNeil after a wheelbarrow drop/Codebreaker combo with D'Air in 9:38...is the gold finally in their future?
"The King Of Chaos" Ricky Cruz vs. "The Filipino Warrior" Elvis Aliaga: It had been a good week for Filipino wrestlers with T.J. Perkins being crowned the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion; Aliaga hoped to continue that trend. However, he faced strong competition in the former Heavyweight and Tag Team Champion...they had crossed paths in the past with Ricky getting the upper hand. After a strong matchup, Aliaga was able to sneak in a low blow; the rookie referee somehow missed it, despite it seemingly happening right in front of him. Elvis capitalized on the cheapshot with a Flatliner for the surprise win in 11:20...didn't see that coming. After the match, Aliaga said that he deserved a title opportunity and challenged the winner of the night's D-1 Championship match...I figured that he would want a shot at Mike Outlaw since he just beat the former Heavyweight Champ, but to each his own. Cruz went under the ring and came out with a kendo stick, cutting Aliaga's promo short and sending him into retreat mode...
Before intermission, co-promoter Crystal Young brought the fan favorite side of the roster to the ring to acknowledge several recent birthdays...including that of Dynamo's youngest helper "Robo". That kid's gonna be a contender some day...
Intermission~! My Official Ben Simon Concession Count(tm) only amounted to one root beer...I compensated after the show, as I hadn't eaten much in the way of dinner that evening.
It was announced that Angelina Love was scheduled to appear at the next Glen Carbon show on October 15th...woo. I can only ass/u/me that she will be facing Lucy Mendez, but we shall see.
"The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs vs. Outtkast for the D-1 Title: Shorty had ended Outtkast's inaugural D-1 Title reign in Wood River last month, so a rematch was quickly set up between the Bumrush Brother tag team partners. Of course the two know each other very well and it showed in both of their encounters, so the question of killer instinct came into play: Who would be willing to take that extra little step to secure victory? That didn't necessarily mean breaking the rules, but it could have meant a bit of rule-BENDING and exploiting a disadvantage on the part of one's opponent. That opportunity came when Outtkast snapped Shorty's arm across the edge of the ring; he focused his attack on the champion's arm after that moment.
These guys had another lengthy matchup and showed that they are among the most underrated competitors in the area on the technical side of things. The crowd was divided with a slight edge to Shorty, which only fueled Outtkast's desire to best his tag team partner of the past decade. In the end, the attack on the arm was too much and Biggs was forced to tap out to a modified cross-armbreaker in 19:17, making Outtkast a two-time D-1 Champion!
There were no hard feelings after the match and the two embraced...but Elvis Aliaga ruined the moment by attacking both men. He attempted to do further damage to Shorty's already-injured arm, then turned his attention to Outtkast so he could issue his challenge face-to-face. The Bumrush Brothers reunited their efforts to drive Aliaga out of the ring and Outtkast had no trouble accepting Aliaga's challenge for a championship bout!
"The Wind Of Destruction" Makaze vs. "The Alternative" Ozzie Gallagher, mask vs. hair match: Sadie Blaze had resurfaced at Dynamo Pro earlier in the year, taking a particular interest in his former protege Gallagher...in particular, he didn't approve of Gallagher's underhanded tactics. Gallagher insisted that Blaze had written the book on such maneuvers, but Blaze said he had grown past that state of mind. Blaze brought back his "old friend" Makaze to settle things in the ring, leading up to this grudge match with high stakes in the stipulation.
Previous encounters had seen Gallagher win with a low blow, get DQed for a low blow, and Makaze return the favor with his own cheapshot victory. As such, each man knew the other extremely well and knew how to counter the opponent's signature maneuvers...as well as the underhanded tactics. The fight spilled out of the ring at one point and Makaze dropped Gallagher to the floor with a running bulldog off the bleachers! The masked man could still take to the air as well as he dove onto Gallagher with a plancha off the second rope. Gallagher did his best to take the mask from his mentor, but Makaze survived a dangerous belly-to-belly superplex and then the Champagne Supernova(cradle backdrop driver). In turn, Gallagher was able to kick out of Makaze's Blizzard Suplex(Northern Lights/fisherman suplex)...but Makaze finally trapped him in the middle of the ring with the Kyouhen(Sharpshooter) for the tapout in 17:43!
Gallagher tried to run away from his fate, but The Bite Club(Rocket & Jackal) carried him back to the ring for his trimming...Makaze took a pair of scissors and electric trimmers to Gallagher's long hair, but the process was taking a while so they dragged him to the backstage area to finish the job!
Mike Outlaw vs. MWR Missouri Champion Brandon Espinosa vs. Tag Team Champion Jon Webb for the Heavyweight Title: Outlaw regained the title from "Dirdey" Jake Dirden last month, but Dirden had other obligations to uphold so the rematch between the two would have to wait. On that same show in Wood River, Espinosa and Webb wrestled to a time-limit draw, putting both in prime position for a title opportunity. Espy had scored a couple of prior victories over Outlaw(both in and out of the Dynamo ring) so he already felt like he deserved to be the champion. The match was surprisingly short; I wondered if one of the previous segments had run long or something. Espinosa and Webb seemed more focused on each other than on the championship, which led to Outlaw being able to bide his time on the floor. When Espy hit Webb with a double-underhook brainbuster, Outlaw took the opportunity to throw Espinosa out of the ring and steal the fall on Webb in 6:47! The champion had retained his title in the first defense of his second reign...after he took his leave, Espy and Webb shook hands.
Post-show, I met up with my esteemed colleagues Brian Kelley, Ben Simon, Jay King, and Gary Weiss at Denny's to compare notes from SICW. I hesitated to order anything big, so I went with cheese fries and just water to drink. This budgeting thing needs work, given the fact that my current income is approximately zero.
At any rate, the only local show next weekend is Wrestling Over Everything in Caseyville, IL on Saturday. Cape Championship Wrestling has a show in Cape Girardeau next Saturday for the more adventurous types. That'll wrap up the month of September and hopefully my employment status will have improved by then.
That's my special comment for this, the fortieth wrestling show I've attended in the year 2016. Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.

Comedy Part 725: Hey Guys, Yet Another Contest Qualifier
Location: Hey Guys Comedy
Emcee: Me
Lineup: Jimmy Day, Gary Reinhardt, Mike McGuire, Lucas Hinderliter, Nathan Orton(winner), Spencer Tegtmeyer, Gary Schultz, Joe "The Animal" Lancey, Shannon Yarbrough, Adam Hoppe, Brannagan Brouk, Tom Brown
My efforts to find employment have taken precedence over writing wacky new jokes, so I didn't have much new material to try out. With the monthly contest qualifier taking place, I was in the position of killing time at the end of the show so they could tally the votes. Hopefully I can find gainful work soon so I can improve my mood and focus on the comedy again...as it is, it's been tough to drag myself out of the gloomy state of mind where I've been stuck for most of the past week.

NXT, CWC, LU
WWE NXT
-Commentators: Tom Phillips & Corey Graves.
-Samoa Joe kicked off the show...the commentators noted that he's not medically cleared to return to action, but he does still have his contractually-obligated rematch for the NXT Title. He claimed to have seen the error of his ways, saying he was a disgrace as champion...but while he regretted some of his actions, he wouldn't apologize for them as he wanted to become the standard-bearer of the hottest brand in WWE. He called NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura to the ring to address him to his face...Nakamura was understandably wary, but Joe said that Nakamura truly was a deserving contender and now a worthy champion. Nakamura had no problem with granting Joe his rematch...the two shook hands and Joe made his way to the backstage area as Nakamura played to the fans(YEAOH~!). However, Joe attacked him from behind as he posed on the entrance stage...he dragged him back to the ringside area and laid him out with a Rock Bottom onto the ring steps! Nakamura had to be stretchered away from ringside. General Manager S. William Regal made his way to ringside to survey the situation, as did Corey Graves.
-Backstage: An enraged Regal wanted to have a talk with Samoa Joe, but Joe was already in his car and leaving the premises.
-Liv Morgan d. Rachael Fazio(fka Ellering) via guillotine hold (1:53). Liv took some offense to NXT Women's Champion Asuka Urai claiming to have cleared out the division...she knew it was a tall order, but she was on a roll and wanted her shot at the title.
