FCW TV 5/20

Commentators:  Chris Russo & Byron Saxton.  Ring announcer:  Caylee Turner.

Corey Graves & Jake Carter(w/ Abraham Washington) vs. The Ascension(Conor O'Brian & Kenneth Cameron) for the Tag Team Titles:  The Ascension members set up for a Doomsday Device on Graves, but Carter clips O'Brian behind the referee's back as A.W. has the referee's attention.  That allows the champs to hit an over-the-shoulder powerslam/DDT combo to give Graves the pin on Conor.

Women's Champion Raquel Diaz enlightens us...she's happy about not having a title defense but Paige Knight(w/ Sofia Cortez) comes out to issue a challenge.  Sounds like a match for next week.

Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins vs. Big E Langston, non-title:  The commentators wonder about the wisdom of taking this matchup when Seth has a title defense next week.  Rollins has an uphill battle against a much larger opponent, but he hangs onto the ropes to escape a Big Ending attempt.  He shoves Langston off into the turnbuckles, then delivers a spinkick to the gut and follows up with the advanced curbstomp to get the duke.

Antonio Cesaro addresses the unwashed masses; he feels like he was cheated in last week's matchup against Kassius Ohno.  He says we've seen the last of him in FCW...we shall see.

Richie Steamboat vs. Brad Maddox for the FCW 15 Title:  These matches are normally very technical in nature, but Maddox prefers to play the chicken heel role and immediately goes into duck-and-run mode.  The strategy pays off as Brad avoids a blind charge into the corner and Steamboat hits the ringpost shoulder-first...Maddox follows up with a single-arm DDT and targets the arm.  Richie fights back but Maddox hits the Dealbreaker(running jumping reverse Stunner) out of nowhere for the first fall at the three-and-a-half-minute mark!

The referee backs Maddox off and gives Steamboat a moment to collect himself...but Brad immediately goes back on the attack.  Maddox goes for a submission with a Fujiwara armbar but Steamboat escapes that predicament and fires back.  Powerslam out of nowhere cues the comeback...he hits the spinaround neckbreaker, then follows up with the superkick to even the score at the seven-minute mark!

Maddox shoves Steamboat off the top rope to the floor to regain his advantage, getting a close near-fall as we hit the ten-minute mark.  Maddox goes back to the arm, but toys with him a bit too much and Richie gets an O'Connor Roll...for two.  The kickout sends Steamboat throat-first into the middle rope and Brad capitalizes with a Flying Jalapeno...for two.  Brad ditches the gameplan out of nowhere to hook a half-crab...well, it does potentially neutralize the superkick.  Three minutes to go and Steamboat barely reaches the ropes to escape.  Brad talks trash and goes for the half-crab again but Steamboat small-packages him...for two.  Two minutes left.  Panic mode hits as Maddox desperately hooks a camel clutch...but now there's only one minute to go and Richie gets to the ropes again.  Brad seems to be out of ideas and continues to talk trash, then leaves the ring and goes for a chair.  He wastes too much time and is met with a superkick on re-entry, but the time expires before Richie can get a fall so it's a 1-1 draw and Steamboat retains the medallion.

Bo Rotundo vs. Kassius Ohno, Contenders' Tournament:  The winner of this match challenges Seth Rollins for the Heavyweight Title next week; Rotundo beat Leo Kruger and Ohno got a questionable DQ win over Cesaro to reach this point.  If I'm not mistaken, Rotundo is vying for his first title shot since forfeiting the belt due to injury.  Russo notes that the winner will move on to his third match in as many weeks against Seth, so that person may be worn down a bit...PSYCHOLOGY~!  In the meantime, YAY WRESTLING~! as the two trade holds and near-falls on the mat.  Ohno gets the advantage with a Buff Blockbuster, then focuses his attack on the head and neck.  CRAVATE~!  Kassius controls the pace, but Rotundo cuts him off and catapults him into the turnbuckles...time for El Big Comeback!  Powerslam...gets two.  Corner clothesline hits but the bulldog is blocked and Ohno rolls him up...for two.  O'Connor Roll...for two.  Roaring elbow is ducked, but Ohno blocks Bo's O'Connor Roll attempt and blasts him with a basement dropkick!  Bo rolls all the way out of the ring after that, then Ohno drops him with a huge dropkick through the ropes.  Kassius sends him back into the ring, but Cesaro suddenly appears to bash Ohno with his satchel while the referee is with Bo!  No one in the ring saw the interference...and Bo takes what is offered and covers Ohno for the three-count to win his title shot!

Next week:  Seth Rollins vs. Bo Rotundo for the Heavyweight Title, plus Raquel Diaz vs. Paige Knight for the Women's Title.  So long from the Sunshine State!
