WWE NXT
Commentators: Tom Phillips, Alex Riley, & Lord Tensai. Ring announcer: Byron Saxton.
Emma Tayla vs. Sasha Banks(w/ Summer Rae): Shoving match to start and Emma gets the better of the opening exchange, scoring a few early near-falls. Sasha yanks the hair to take over and slow things down...but Emma doesn't stay down for long. Emma gets the Tarantula out of nowhere and then the low cross-bodyblock in the corner...for two. Catapult nearly sets up the Emmalock(inverted STF), but Summer's on the apron and Emma stops to cut her off. NXT Women's Champion Paige Knight arrives on cue to yank Summer off the apron, but Sasha small-packages Emma for the flash pin. Paige enters to disrupt the post-match gloating, but Sasha ducks the clothesline and Paige hits Emma by mistake. Uh-oh...cue tense post-match conversation.
Last week: NXT Champion Bo Dallas was elated about his title defense against Sami Zayn...he's taking a well-deserved vacation and traveling the world. Don't stop Bo-lieving!
Corey Graves is here to explain his actions...specfically why he turned on his partner Adrian Neville last week. Well, Neville's not waiting for an explanation and rushes him on the entrance stage! Neville beats the hell out of him, but Graves seeks refuge in the ring and gets in a cheapshot kick as Adrian enters. Referees arrive to restore order but Neville fires back, then dives onto Graves with a major plancha!
Tag Team Champions The Ascension(Conor O'Brian & Rick Victor) vs. Tommy Taylor & Casey Maron(non-title): Yeahhhhh, don't see this being competitive. The fans chant "Let's Go These Guys". Phillips says the guy in green is Maron and I'll take his word for it. Taylor never gets in the ring as Victor dropkicks him off the apron. The champs do a double hiptoss into a catch and double powerbomb, then they finish with Total Ascension(okay, it's officially called the Fall Of Man) and Victor gets the pin.
Last week: Sami Zayn felt like he won, but Bo's foot was on the bottom rope and he understands that. He DOES have a problem with the lack of a restart after Bo won with the aid of an exposed turnbuckle...he understands what Daniel Bryan is going through. If you're not the "chosen guy", it seems like things work against you...
Renee Young interviews General Manager John Bradshaw Layfield...Renee brings up the possibility of a Triple H/JBL conspiracy. JBL says a fair finish was Best For Business(tm), but he takes "baseless accusions" very seriously and Zayn is staying at home until he learns some respect.
C.J. Parker(w/ Tyler Breeze's camera phone) vs. Alexander Rusev: Notably, no Sylvester Lefort on this night...Rusev doesn't have usual wooden board either. Rusev dominates from the opening bell...and a mysterious blonde woman comes to ringside to observe the beating. Rusev finishes in short order with the Accolade(camel clutch)...our unknown lady seems to like what she saw.
During the break: Tyler Breeze took out the beaten Parker with the Beauty Shot(spinning heel kick). He cut off some of Parker's white-guy dreadlocks and left with his camera phone. Grudge match next week!
Also next week: Paige vs. Summer Rae.
Adrian Neville vs. Corey Graves: Admittedly, these guys were kinda thrown together as a tag team due to Kassius Ohno being injured by the Wyatt Family...they were a makeshift duo from the beginning. Neville rushes Graves with a John Wu Dropkick right out of the gate and keeps up the pressure...a more traditional dropkick sends Corey to the floor, so cue the corkscrew flippy dive! Back in the ring, Neville unloads with the educated feet but Graves takes out the knee with a unique takedown. A body drop onto the knee is nicely countered into a Neville rollup...Corey rolls through only to get kicked again. Graves seeks refuge in the ropes and kicks out the knee again, then ties it up in the ropes and drops a knee. More leg damage ensues as the high-flyer is grounded(PSYCHOLOGY~!). Shinbuster works once, but the second try leads to Neville going up and over into a sunset flip...for two. Graves quickly goes back to the leg but Neville gets off a pair of Flying Jalapenos out of nowhere. Third floor...Graves nearly cuts him off but Adrian jumps over him only to re-tweak the knee on the landing. He still manages a rollup for two, but Graves takes him out with the legdive and finally gets the Lucky 13(Fuller Leglock) for the tapout.
Graves isn't done as he hooks the leglock again on the arena floor...referees have to intervene again but the damage has been done.
TNA Impact
-Commentators: Mike Tenay & Taz.
-New Heavyweight Champion A.J. Styles had a confrontation with Bully Ray over Dixie Carter's proposal to cancel the title rematch. Ray threatened to powerbomb Styles through a table, but Ken Anderson returned to brawl with Ray.
-Women's Champion Gail Kim & Brooke Tessmacher(w/ Lei'D Tapa) d. O.D.B. & Velvet Sky; Gail pinned Velvet after Tapa BOOTed her behind the referee's back.
-Ethan Carter III d. Dewey Barnes after the headlock driver.
-A.J. Styles d. Bully Ray(w/ Brooke Tessmacher) to retain the Heavyweight Title. The referee was bumped and Ray hit Styles with his chain, then delivered the Bully Cutter...for a slow two-count from the dazed ref. Anderson re-entered and stopped Ray from using the chain again, then snapped his throat off the top rope...that allowed A.J. to get a crucifix pin.
