Special Comment Extra

I try not to make judgments about what I haven't seen. As such, I only feel comfortable about commenting on the shows that I directly attend. I do my best to keep up via YouTube, but the live experience is important to the whole picture.

At any rate, I meant to touch on the MMWA show in the main commentary but it honestly slipped my mind. The schedule has been so busy lately that shows just occur on the same night sometimes. Last Saturday evening was a notable example as the area talent was spread out across four different events(Dynamo, Broadway, WLW, Metro Pro) with very little crossover.

Broadway has built up to a big July show where they'll do a best-of-seven series of matches; if the Elitism side wins the series, Sean Orleans will become the new Commissioner and Jim Harris will be out of the company. Two wrestlers made returns after long absences: LaMarcus Clinton and Johnny(Johnathon?) Zulu. A.J. Williams & Da'Marius Jones won the Tag Team Titles from Jackson Whitechapel & Sean Orleans. Heavyweight champion Brandon Espinosa's been having trouble with rookie Everett Connors; he lost to him by countout in May(thanks in part to Brian James) and was surprisingly pinned by Connors in this month's tag match.

Ace Hawkins and Andrew Wilder continued their feud and will meet in a ladder match in July(first time ever at Broadway!). Moondog Rover will get a shot at T.V. Champion Lynn Mephisto in a dog collar match. Barackus(out with bronchitis this month) will defend the Survivor Title against Dave Osborne in a best-of-three-falls match. Those are three matches out of the best-of-seven series...don't yet know how the Heavyweight and Tag Titles will fit into things. With LMC back in action along with Chase King, perhaps the former Tag Champs who never lost the belts in the ring will challenge the new titleholders? James, Gary Jackson, and even Connors have legitimate claims to a shot at Espinosa...so they could go in a few different directions with that.

One of these days, I'll finally get to a WLW show...it seems like there's always something else happening when they run in the general St. Louis area. I saw a Thursday night show on the upcoming event listing, so maybe that'll be it.

Have heard a lot of good things about Metro Pro and have seen a few of their YouTube programs...don't know if they'll run any more shows in the near future, though. Saturday's show seemed like a one-time deal after their shutdown last year. Maybe they'll do more reunion shows down the line...don't know.

SICW is back in East Carondelet this coming weekend with Ted DiBiase as the special guest. Bobby Heenan is still recovering from his recent arm injury and I haven't heard anything definite about when he'll be rescheduled to appear. The lineup seems to have the theme of "old guard vs. new guard" with established guys facing relative newcomers to the promotion. We've got Classic Champion Ken Kasa teaming with Ricky Cruz(something that will not improve Ricky's mood) against Heath Hatton and Daniel Eads, Gary Jackson vs. Bull Bronson, and Chaz Wesson vs. Frankie "The Thumper" Wyatt as well as Big Jim Hoffarth vs. Flash Flanagan and Shorty Biggs vs. "The Iceman" Howard Moritz.

NWA Central States Championship Wrestling will have their first show in the immediate St. Louis area in a while as they'll be in Fort Leonard Wood, MO on Saturday. A bit has changed since I last saw them: The Central States Title went from Shane Somers to G.Q. Smooth back to Shane Somers, who is now a rulebreaker under Garrett Williams' management. Evan "Money" Morris dropped the NWA Affliction Title to Mitch Johnson, only to rebound by capturing the vacated NWA Illinois Title in a battle royal. The NWA Missouri Title was won in a battle royal by Elvis Aliaga, only to be re-vacated due to a controversial finish: Aliaga had been eliminated but the referees missed it, leading to Elvis re-entering the match and eventually winning.

Saturday's show will feature Money defending against David DeLorean, Mitch Johnson defending against former referee "Mad Hatter" Damon Buchanan, and a four-way match for the NWA Missouri Title. The four-way was scheduled to feature the final four participants in the battle royal, but Bradley Charles was taken out in favor of Brian Breaker; the other three participants are scheduled to be Aliaga, Jack Gamble, and Michael Magnuson.

Once again: Good night, good luck, and #yaywrestling.
