MMWA-SICW ran almost exclusively at the South Broadway Athletic Club for a long time, but started doing monthly shows in East Carondelet in April of 2007. They were just two different venues for the same group, acknowledging the same set of belts(Heavyweight, Junior Heavyweight, Battle Royal, Tag Team, and the now-defunct Women's Title).
Somewhere along the line, SICW stopped acknowledging MMWA's titles and established their own championship(the Classic Title) in January of 2011. Not long after that, the two sides started billing themselves as completely separate entities(MMWA and SICW) though many wrestlers worked for both groups. I imagine Missouri licensing was a factor in a few cases, but some stories came out about wrestlers having issues with one side and only working for the other(Ron Powers is a prime example). Right now, there are several wrestlers who work for both groups, including titleholders Gary Jackson, Ricky Cruz, Dave Vaughn, and Max Archer.
Reportedly this all came to a head in the past month or so, resulting in MMWA denying SICW the use of their ring for last night's show...Dynamo Pro Wrestling lent their ring to the event so it could proceed as planned. Now it's coming out that things really blew up between the two sides last week...SICW had phased out a lot of MMWA's involvement but continued to use Tim Miller's ring until last night.
I don't know the whole story and I imagine the truth lies somewhere in the middle, as always...we shall see. I wonder if wrestlers will be forced to "pick a side"...that would suck for people who are just looking for places to work.
Ben Simon(who did his first ring announcing with SICW a few years ago) made his return to the group...he does ring announcing for several of the promotions in the area.
Another oddity of the night was the absence of Matt Murphy...while several WLW workers were on the show(Jon Webb, Michael Magnuson), Murphy was not in the building for his scheduled match with Keith Smith. All we were told by Larry Matysik was that Murphy had "cancelled" his appearance and Keith was declared the winner by forfeit/default.
Hey, Max Archer finally got a win in SICW after a fairly lengthy losing streak...good for him.
El Sanchez made his SICW debut(along with Magnuson and Brent Myers)...he seems to be trying more aerial moves in his recent outings.
While I know that Webb and Magnuson are from WLW, I don't know anything about Myers' background...he had a solid matchup with Gary last night.
Surprising to see Texan beat Chaz so decisively...but it was a good setup for Texan challenging for the title next week.
Travis Cook made his return to SICW with his attorney...but it sounds like he'll be absent in November and offered to let Ron Powers manage his charges at that show as a display of trust. It developed into a conflict of interest in the main event as Powers was challenging for the title along with Cook's protege Dave Vaughn...wonder how that'll pan out.
Fine matchup between Hargas and Kasa and it got a decent amount of time...double countout = this feud MUST CONTINUE~!
Wasn't quite sure how the main event would end up...Vincent took a piledriver from Powers prior to Cruz getting the win with his own finisher. They did a good job setting up Cruz-Texan for next month...there you have it.
I will need to check on ticket availability for the TNA house show at Chaifetz Arena...don't think a lineup has been announced, just a talent list: Jeff Hardy, Bully Ray, Austin Aries, Bobby Roode, Mickie James, James Storm, A.J. Styles, and Tara Varon.
Right now, my November looks like MECW on the 10th and SICW on the 17th and 24th...the first weekend of November appears to be open for me at the moment.
