Midweek wrestling
-Commentators: Tom Phillips & Byron Saxton.
-Goldust(w/ Cody Rhodes) d. Alberto Del Rio with the Final Cut(elevated neckbreaker) (3:10). Renee Young interviewed The Brotherhood after the match; things seemed okay, but Cody seemed to get about the fact that Goldust beat the guy who beat him on Raw...
-Women's Champion Paige Knight d. Alicia Fox(non-title) with a cradle DDT (3:33). Tamina Snuka confronted Paige on the entrance stage after the match.
-Wade "Bad News" Barrett d. Kofi Kingston when he stopped a leap off the ring steps with the Bullhammer forearm smash, then threw him back into the ring for the pinfall (2:28).
-Bray Wyatt(w/ Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) d. Sheamus O'Shaunessy via Sister Abigail after a distraction by the Family members (13:41). The Family sought to dish out some post-match abuse, but Tag Team Champions Jimmy & Jey Uso made the save.
TNA XPlosion
-Commentators: Mike Tenay & Jeremy Borash.
-O.D.B. d. Brittany Garrett with the BAM(TKO) (6:08 aired).
AAW Pro Wrestling #9
-Commentators: Phil Colvin & Derek St. Holmes, Esq.
-Earlier today: Eddie Kingston said he was happy to be back...and he got a good laugh out of Val Malone recently stepping into the ring as a wrestler. Does Silas Young need his wife to fight his battles for him? "Test my gangsta..."
-"The Last Real Man" Silas Young(w/ Val Malone) d. Eddie Kingston with an Oklahoma roll in a match that saw a ladder and the metal ring steps used as weapons (8:42). Kingston attacked Silas with a chair after the match and duct-taped him to the ropes, but Val grabbed the chair away from him. Kingston shrugged off Val's attempts to hit him with the chair and dropped her on it with a brainbuster! Referees and security finally entered the ring to restore order, but the damage had been done...the commentators later inform us that Val was taken to a local hospital.
-"The New Real Man" Shane Hollister(w/ Scarlett Bordeaux wearing glorified lingerie...hmm...anywho) d. Jimmy Jacobs to retain the Heavyweight Title. Jacobs speared Hollister through the ropes and into the guardrail, but busted himself open in the process. He still managed to hook the End Times(guillotine hold) but couldn't hang onto the hold due to the blood in his eyes...Hollister took advantage with Shug's Last Gift for the win (26:30). Hollister and Markus Crane stomped down Jacobs afterwards, but Colt Cabana ran them off with a pool cue.
-Eddie Kingston said he was tired...but he laughed at Silas for not being able to protect his wife. Looks like this feud MUST CONTINUE...

SICW Special Comment
Attendance seemed to be SLIGHTLY down from previous months...the weather's getting nicer, plus they set up May as a big show. It'll be the Wrestling At The Chase anniversary show with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan appearing...when I posted about Heenan being there, I was hearing from people who I didn't know were wrestling fans! That building will be packed next month...
This almost seemed like a "placeholder" show to set up next month; there were a surprisingly high amount of DQ finishes(three plus a time-limit draw out of eight matches).
Your ring announcer was Ben Simon, your referees were Jay King and Keith Smith Jr.
Joker vs. Ax (Allwardt): Joker is trending toward fan-favortism after shaking Gary Jackson's hand at the Caseyville show; this match seemed to solidify that. Ax got a little too aggressive with his choking and drew the night's first disqualification at 5:36...perhaps a rematch will be in order.
"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. Flash Flanagan: These two have crossed paths a few times; their first bout in Belleville ended in a DQ, then Dirden pinned Flanagan in a tag match with a slight assist from Ron Powers and a steel chair. It looks like Kasa will be occupied with Gary Jackson for a while, so Dirden needed something else to do...resulting in a rare loss(albeit by screwjob). Flanagan blocked a rollup and held the ropes for the cheap win in 8:14...gosh darn it, they'll have to wrestle again to settle this.
"The Man Of Tomorrow" Daniel Eads vs. Mallaki Matthews: Eads is getting a good push in SICW. This was Mallaki's second SICW appearance and it looks like he'll be in the rulebreaker role. Solid bout; Eads won by countering an aerial move with a version of the Superman Punch in 7:17. Punches as finishers are a minor pet peeve in the sense that closed fists aren't usually legal in wrestling...they don't usually draw DQs except in the most extreme cases of biased officiating, but it's just something that fell by the wayside in the wrestling business. The Big Show's main finisher is the PUNCH; Johnny B. Badd used to finish with the "Tutti-Frutti" left hook as Jesse Ventura griped about how it should be illegal. :)
"The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs vs. "Money" Matt Cage: Was interested to see how these guys' styles would mesh...they had a pretty good match and even went to a ten-minute draw, so it looks like they'll meet again down the line. I do not have a problem with this. Cage teased overtime before walking away...bwahahaha.
Big Jim Hoffarth vs. Frankie "The Thumper" Wyatt: Jay King's terrible horrible no-good very-bad stretch of officiating duty continued as he got squashed between the two super heavyweights for the double DQ in 4:18. Owie. Looks like this battle of the behemoths will happen again in the near future...
"Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) vs. "Night Train/Great One/Gorgeous" Gary Jackson for the Classic Title: This was pushed as a championship that Gary has never held...at least not since SICW started its own championship after the split from the MMWA. Kasa's had a long reign and is starting to show signs of weakness: He barely got past Dirden last month, needed Travis' help to retain against Heath Hatton in Caseyville, and would have lost here if not for Travis' blatant interference to cause the DQ in 12:16. Odd to put the title match this early in the show, but the finish needed SOME kind of follow-up...the rematch was announced for May with Travis handcuffed to Big Daddy. Big Daddy was a bit before my time on this indy scene, but he was known as one of the top rulebreaking managers in the area...heard some great stories about him. The aftermath teased potential conflicts with Eads and Shorty as well...Kasa's plate will be full in the near future.
Heath Hatton vs. "The Iceman" (Howard Moritz): This was my first time seeing Moritz; he's worked Metro Pro and NWA:CSCW prior to this. Thought he did a fine job in the rulebreaker role against Hatton. Heath is another guy who's gunning for Kasa's title and he's developed a pretty good fanbase in this area. Hadn't seen him finish with the LeBell Lock before, so that was new...it got the tapout in 9:16.
Ron Powers & "The Old School Warrior" Chaz Wesson vs. Ricky Cruz & Bull Bronson: Cruz & Bronson were enemies not that long ago...things change, obviously. The loser-leaves-town setup happened out of nowhere...according to promoter Herb Simmons, it'll be no-DQ on top of that so there must be a winner. Hard to see either guy leaving...maybe someone will put on a mask? Maybe someone will take a break and return down the line? That's merely speculation on my part, of course...and no, I have NO idea who's winning. It does seem like Travis manipulated things to his advantage, getting rid of at least one major challenger to Kasa's title...but Cruz only agreed to the stipulation if he was GUARANTEED his title shot after winning. Powers rolled up Cruz for the win in 14:04...will Ricky go bye-bye? We'll see next month...
Already set for next month: Kasa-Jackson(Travis cuffed to Big Daddy), Powers-Cruz loser-leaves-town, and a battle royal. Good times...

WWE Raw In St. Louis, MO
-Damien Sandow d. Sin Cara.
-Tamina Snuka d. Natalya Neidhart.
Live Raw:
-Commentators: Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, & John Bradshaw Layfield. Special guest: Hugh Jackman.
-John Cena started Raw with a promo inside the cage; he wondered why he deserved to get voted into a one-on-three handicap match last week. He hyped the future of WWE, mentioning names like Roman Reigns, Antonio Cesaro, Seth Rollins, WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, and even NXT wrestlers like Adrian Neville and Sami Zayn. That prompted the appearance of a creepy choir of kids to sing "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands", heralding the entrance of Bray Wyatt and his Family(Luke Harper & Erick Rowan). Bray had a good laugh as the kids surrounded the ring and put on the sheep masks...
-Jimmy & Jey Uso d. Ryback & Curtis Axel to retain the Tag Team Titles; Axel Perfectplexed Jey, but Jimmy had made a blind tag and splashed Axel from the top rope for the win.
-Sheamus O'Shaunessy d. Titus O'Neil with the Brogue Kick despite being attacked from behind in the aisleway as he was entering.
-Dolph Ziggler brought out guest star Hugh Jackman...they had an altercation a few years ago involving some other guy(Zack somethingorother). That led to Damien Sandow entering in a cheap Magneto costume...Jackman finally gave him a hiptoss and Ziggler dropped him with the Zigzag.
-Antonio Cesaro(w/ Paul Heyman) d. Jack Swagger(w/ Zeb Colter); Zeb tripped Cesaro at one point and Heyman grabbed Zab by the mustache, leading to Cesaro pinning a distracted Swagger with a German suplex.
-Alberto Del Rio d. Cody Rhodes(w/ Goldust) with the cross-armbreaker takedown.
-Alexander Rusev(w/ Lana Perry) d. Xavier Woods(w/ "R-Truth" Ron Killings) by DQ when R-Truth broke up the Accolade(camel clutch). R-Truth and Woods worked together to fight off Rusev.
-Heath Slater & Drew McIntyre(w/ Jinder Mahal & Hornswoggle) d. Los Matadores(Fernando & Diego)(w/ El Torito) when Heath pinned Diego after the Smash Hit(elevated DDT).
-Stephanie McMahon-Helmesly called WWE Champion Daniel Bryan(w/ Brie Bella) out to apologize for Kane's beating on last week's Raw. Understandably Bryan was skeptical...but Steph made a peace offering of a Women's Title shot for Brie.
-Paige Knight vs. Brie Bella(w/ Daniel Bryan) for the Women's Title ended in a no-contest when Kane ripped his way up through the ring to grab Brie. Bryan tried to fight him off by hitting him with a ring wrench, but Kane sat up and chokeslammed Bryan(who was still in a neckbrace from being Tombstoned three times last week).
-Intercontinental Title Contender Tournament: Wade "Bad News" Barrett d. Rob Van Dam. Cesaro(w/ Heyman) and Swagger(w/ Zeb) both got involved and Cesaro delayed the five-star frog splash long enough for Barrett to get his knees up and block it. Barrett got the win with the Bullhammer...and a three-way fight erupted afterwards between RVD, Cesaro, and Swagger. Swagger Doctor-Bombed Cesaro, but Van Dam kicked Swagger down and hit the five-star frog splash on Cesaro.
-Roman Reigns(w/ U.S. Champion Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins) fought Randy Orton(w/ Triple H & Batista) to a no-contest. Ric Flair made an appearance to talk up his time in Evolution, but then praised The Shield members and shook their hands before leaving. The match was thrown out when everyone started brawling outside the ring...the Evolution trio seemed to have control, but Rollins broke up a Pedigree on Ambrose and The Shield members took over. Triple H got speared by Reigns, but Orton and Batista interrupted an attempted triple-team spike powerbomb...Seth and Dean got the chairs away from them and the Evolution members retreated.
Dark match:
-John Cena d. Bray Wyatt(w/ Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) by DQ when Harper & Rowan interfered.
On Main Event: Sheamus vs. Wyatt.
Sunday, April 27, 2014
TNA Sacrifice
-Ken Anderson d. Samuel Shaw in a "Committed" Match by throwing him into the back of the padded van after a Mic Check into the bumper.
-Kurt Angle & Willow The Wisp d. Ethan Carter III & Rockstar Spud when Willow pinned Spud after Angle's Olympic Slam followed by Willow's swanton bomb.
-Match 3 Of Best-Of-3 Series: Seiya Senada d. Tigre Uno with the moonsault to retain the X-Division Title.
-Phil Gunner d. Cowboy James Storm in an I Quit Match when Gunner stabbed Storm in the forehead with a piece of broken glass(!).
-Angelina Love(w/ Velvet Sky) d. Madison Rayne to win the Women's Title; Velvet blinded Rayne with hairspray and Angelina got the rollup pin.
-Bobby Roode d. Bully Ray in a table match; Ray powerbombed Roode through a table but the referee was knocked down. Ray set up Roode for a second-rope splash through two tables, but a camera operator pushed him off the ropes and through the tables. The "camera operator" turned out to be Dixie Carter in disguise.
-Eric Young d. Brutus Magnus after the second piledriver of the match followed by the Macho Elbow to retain the Heavyweight Title.
Anarchy Wrestling TV #430
-"The Sin City Saint" Brandon Parker d. "Dynomite Soul" Eric Walker after a cradle DDT (4:23).
-Alex Avgerinos & Lars Manderson(w/ "The Stray Cat" Brodie Ray Chase) d. The Vandal & Kameron Kade when Avgerinos pinned Vandal after a Falcon Arrow/powerbomb combo with Manderson (8:32 aired).
-"The Seven-Figure Deal" Ace Rockwell d. Mike Posey with the Aces High(Diamond Cutter) (8:53 aired). Seth Delay accepted Posey's challenge for a six-man tag at Hardcore Hell: Posey would team with Corey Hollis and John Skyler, Seth would team with Steven Walters and Billy Buck.
-The Washington Bullets(Jon & Trey Williams) d. "The Modern Classic" B.J. Hancock & Joey Rhymer by DQ to retain the Tag Team Titles (12:06 aired); "The Technician" Todd Sexton & Brodie Ray Chase did commentary. The Bullets turned their attention to Rachael at ringside and Shadow Jackson attacked them outside the ring. That led to Brodie and Sexton leaving the broadcast table to fight with Hancock and Rhymer; Todd challenged Hancock to a street fight at Hardcore Hell with Rachael handcuffed to Brodie. For his part, Shadow issued a challenge on behalf of himself and Nemesis to the Bullets for Hardcore Hell.
Weekend wrestling
-Commentators: Tom Phillips & Byron Saxton.
-Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston d. Damien Sandow(non-title) with the Big Ending (7:26). Jerry Lawler interviewed Big E after the match.
-Kofi Kingston d. Titus O'Neil after the Trouble In Paradise (5:25).
ROH TV
-Commentators: Kevin Kelly & Steve Corino.
-B.J. Whitmer(w/ Roderick Strong, Jimmy Jacobs, & Adam Page) d. Cedric Alexander after distraction by the Decade members led to Whitmer hitting a lariat for the win. Jacobs trash-talked Alexander after the match and Cedric spit in Jacobs' face, leading to Strong laying out Cedric with the Falcon Arrow backbreaker.
-A.C.H.(w/ Tadarius Thomas) d. Andrew Everett with a 450 Splash after Everett missed a double-rotation moonsault; Jimmy Jacobs did commentary.
-Jay Lethal(w/ Truth Martini) d. Alex Koslov by DQ to retain the T.V. Title; Truth distracted the ref as Koslov was in control, prompting Matt Taven to run out after Martini and Lethal. Referees and security had to hold back Taven as Lethal and Truth got away from the scene.
SICW Wrestling Explosion
-Commentator: Larry Matysik.
-Flashback to the spring of 1987 in Dupo, Illinois: King Kong Brody fought Abdullah The Butcher to a no-contest when the referee was knocked down as he tried to break up the brawl on the floor. A young Gary Jackson was among the wrestlers who attempted to restore order.
-Flashback to 1984 in Tokyo, Japan: King Kong Brody d. Dory Funk Jr. Dory attempted a back suplex, but Brody kicked off the turnbuckles and got the better of the landing, scoring the pin afterwards.

-Flash Flanagan d. "Dirdey" Jake Dirden by blocking a rollup out of the corner and holding the ropes for illegal leverage (8:14).
-Daniel Eads d. Mallaki Matthews; Matthews hit a Beautiful Disaster kick, but when he went for it again, Eads intercepted the move with a mid-air Superman Punch for the win (7:17).
-"The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs fought Matt Cage to a ten-minute time-limit draw. Cage declined any potential overtime...
-Big Jim Hoffarth fought Frankie "The Thumper" Wyatt to a double DQ when referee Jay King was caught in the middle as the two collided in mid-ring (4:18).
-"Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson d. Classic Champion "Ironman" Ken Kasa(w/ Travis Cook) by DQ; Cook blatantly interfered to break up Gary's Texas Cloverleaf and save the title for Kasa (12:16). Kasa and Cook handcuffed Gary to the ropes and beat him down until Daniel Eads and Shorty Biggs ran them off. Promoter Herb Simmons would later announce that Jackson would get a title rematch on May 17th, but Travis Cook would be handcuffed to former local wrestling manager Big Daddy!
-Heath Hatton d. "The Iceman" Howard Moritz with the LeBell Lock (9:16).
-The war of words escalated between Ron Powers and Ricky Cruz over who deserved a title shot; that led Travis Cook to propose a loser-leaves-town match between the two! Ricky agreed on the grounds that he finally get his title shot if he wins...

Dynamo Special Comment
The intimate venue means that even a smaller crowd can sound great for these shows...and it definitely worked on this night with the hardcore-style main event. Fox 2 News' April Simpson was in the house to check out the show...seems like she's a bit of a wrestling fan. Woo.
Was in good company for the night with local comedy compatriots Landon Meyer and Matthew Rude of the Rude Moose Radio/Kayfabe Poker Night podcasts. I occasionally make an appearance on their shows to hype the independent scene...Landon's been to a few indy shows in the past but this was Matt's first non-Ring Of Honor indy show. They definitely had a good time and hopefully they'll be coming to more shows down the line. Check out their podcasts at:
http://rudemooseradio.podbean.com/
Your ring announcer was Chris Roedel(with Ben Simon doing a few announcements), your referees were Michael Crase and Jay King.
Absences from the announced lineup: Dan Walsh(scheduled to face Alexandre Rudolph) and Kevin X(scheduled to face Brandon Gallagher).
Everett Connors vs. Chase King: I guess this was unofficially a "dark match". MMWA/South Broadway had notable presence on the show as several guys made their Dynamo debuts, including these two. King recently returned to action after a hiatus of about a year and is now a rulebreaker at South Broadway; Connors is extremely new with only a few matches under his proverbial belt. King countered one bodyscissors victory roll attempt into a German suplex, but Connors got it on the second try for the flash pin and (I believe) his first win in 4:29.
"The Littlest Viking" Jake Parnell vs. Ace Hawkins(w/ Brandon Espinosa): Parnell may be dropping his given name completely as he's only been announced as "The Littlest Viking" lately. The undercard matches were kept relatively short on this night, as I figured they might for a midweek show. Espy's involvement led to Ace getting the win in 5:33...and Rudolph made an appearance to carry his partner away from the ringside area. Heh.
Executive Director Mark Bland made an appearance...no big angle, just general show hype.
"Night Train/Gorgeous/Great One" Gary Jackson vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher: Gallagher was hyped as being on a winning streak, but it came to an abrupt end against the local veteran. Sometimes the simple psychology works...the bad guy gets cocky, goes for the same move a second time, and gets countered. It worked in the opener and it worked here as Gary countered Gallagher's second suplex attempt into a small package at 5:24. Cue epic tantrum...bwahahaha. Gallagher's hair isn't as blue as it once was, but he still got some Katy Perry chants...
"The American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph vs. Da'Marius Jones: Travis Cook made an appearance to "scout" Jones; he had a talk with Da'Marius before the match as Rudolph was held back by the ring announcer and refs. That put Jones in the bad-guy role for the evening, but Rudolph is powered by STAG BEER~!(official sponsor of Dynamo Pro Wrestling at Off Broadway) so he was the definite crowd favorite. Landon and Matt were very impressed by Rudolph's Goozleplex finisher...it ended the match at 7:12. Travis had another talk with Jones after the match, but no tension surfaced on this evening.
Tag Team Champion "The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs vs. Brandon Espinosa(w/ Ace Hawkins): It seemed like this was just getting warmed up when Hawkins ran in for the disqualification...no match time was announced but it was a bit over five minutes. Hope to see a longer match between these two at some point. Parnell came back out to even the odds, putting Mark Bland in the Teddy Long role of booking a HOLLA HOLLA TAG MATCH, PLAYA~!
Tag Team Champion "The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs & "The Littlest Viking" Jake Parnell vs. Brandon Espinosa & Ace Hawkins: Now that Ace is a bad guy, he'd better keep a close eye on that Missouri Wrestling Revival "Sexiest Wrestler" trophy...awards don't tend to last long in wrestling environments. The good guys got some laughs by messing up the hair of the Elitism duo...heh. Shorty cleaned house after the hot tag and then brought Parnell back in to finish off Hawkins with the 450 Splash at 6:06, evening the score from the earlier singles match. (For future reference, Shorty tells me that the Bumrush Brothers' double-team finisher is called the "Order 66"...so put that in the mental Rolodex.)
They took a lengthy intermission to set up the main event...
"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. Tag Team Champion Outtkast, House Of Fun Hardcore Match for the Heavyweight Title: I don't think I'd ever seen this style of match before. A set of keys were suspended above the ring to be retreived via ladder. Weapons were chained to the ringposts and the keys unlocked the padlocks for each weapon. I had flashbacks to a previous gimmick match with a briefcase on a pole where the keys didn't work so well...it wasn't too bad in this case. The wrestlers simply had to try different keys until they found the one that unlocked the weapon in question.
Landon and Matt were cringing at some of the weapon spots in this one...the ladder lawndart spot was the biggest "holy $#!+" moment of the bout. People were shocked that Dirden didn't come up bloody after that one...there was no blood in this one, but certainly not for lack of effort. The table WOULD NOT BREAK...again, not for lack of effort. The metal spike never got DIRECTLY used...otherwise we would have seen some crimson for sure. I still remember the last-man-standing match that Outtkast had with Billy McNeil in the GCW days where he took TEN kendo stick shots to the head...this time around, he took five or six and it still sucked to watch. That didn't finish off Kast, but the Asiatic Spike finally sealed the deal at 27:59(!). Dirden's basically a tweener these days, so we got mutual respect after the match...yay.
Anywho, fun night of wrestling action...and the plate is full for the next month or so:

Tuesday DPW Results From St. Louis, MO(Off Broadway) + This Week In Wrestling
Ace Hawkins(w/ Brandon Espinosa) d. "The Littlest Viking" Jake Parnell; Espinosa grabbed Parnell's foot to distract him and Hawkins got the win with a jumping DDT.
"Gorgeous" Gary Jackson d. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher by countering a suplex attempt with a small package for the pin.
"The American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph d. Da'Marius Jones(w/ Travis Cook "scouting" a potential new talent) after the Goozleplex.
Tag Team Champion "The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs d. Brandon Espinosa(w/ Ace Hawkins) by DQ when Hawkins interfered; Parnell hit the ring to help and Executive Director Mark Bland ordered an impromptu tag match.
Tag Team Champion Shorty Biggs & Jake Parnell d. Brandon Espinosa & Ace Hawkins; Shorty dropped Hawkins with a uranagi and Parnell got the pin on Ace after a 450 Splash.
"Dirdey" Jake Dirden d. Tag Team Champion Outtkast in a House Of Fun Match to retain the Heavyweight Title. Keys were hung above the ring to be retrieved via ladder; they could be used to unlock weapons that were chained and padlocked to the ringposts. The weapons were a set of steel chairs, a table, a kendo stick, and a briefcase with a mystery weapon. Outtkast got the keys first and brought the chairs into play; this led to Dirden being hung from the Tree Of Woe with chairs sandwiching his head as Outtkast lawndarted the ladder into his face! The table proved to be sturdier than expected; Outtkast caught Dirden on the ladder and used the kendo stick for a White Russian Legsweep, sending both men crashing down onto the table. Undettered, Dirden chokeslammed Outtkast onto the table and it still didn't break! Outtkast somehow survived the assault and got the briefcase from the final ringpost, bringing out a metal spike...he nearly choked out Dirden with it, but Dirden was able to fight out of the predicament. Dirden fought back by bashing Outtkast in the head repeatedly with the kendo stick...Shorty came out to root for his partner and Kast incredibly kicked out of the pin attempt, but finally succumbed to the Asiatic Spike as he passed out in the hold. After Outtkast regained his wits, Dirden shook his hand in a show of respect after the war they had been through!

It's a popular saying: Real life is what happens when you're making other plans. My plans for the previous weekend were derailed by a stay in the hospital for acute bronchitis(with a side order of high blood pressure). Just about everyone has probably lived their lives with some sense of invincibility...then you get a wake-up call that things need to change. Whether that be sleep habits, diet, housekeeping, or some combination of the three...gotta do better with that.
Missed a few things at the MMWA show at South Broadway: The SBAC debut of Evan Gelistico, the return of Chase King, a turn to rulebreaking for J-Mal Swagg, and the revival of the long-dormant Tag Team Titles. Saw the two tag matches on YouTube, at any rate.
At any rate, attendance was decent for Dynamo's return to Glen Carbon after a six-month absence(soccer season had the venue booked solid). A combination of nice weather and a holiday weekend may have affected the turnout. Crowd energy doesn't always translate well in this venue...it's more spacious than the usual places where I see indy shows, so maybe that's it. Several people returned to action after being absent from the Missouri shows: Jackal, Steven Kennedy, Billy McNeil, Shawn Santel, and Mauler McDarby.
Davey Richards was originally scheduled to challenge Jake Dirden for the Heavyweight Title, but TNA commitments ix-nayed that plan and Dirden faced Jeremy Wyatt in a rematch from the recent Fenton show. Otherwise, the announced lineup was intact.
Your ringside crew was Chris Roedel(who did most of the ring announcing), Luke Roberts(who handled the extra announcements), and Ben Simon(who was apparently a bit under the weather and took it easy as a result). Your referees were Michael Crase and Jay King.
As with Fenton, the show started with some talk-type stuff. Keny G promoted his upcoming stroke benefit which now has a location(the Glen Carbon venue) and a date(Saturday 7/12). He said Santana Garrett(aka TNA's Brittany) would almost definitely be there and he would try to get Scott Hall and Larry Zbyszko as well.
It was probably a good idea to bring people up to speed on recent happenings; Dynamo hadn't been in Glen Carbon since last October. Since then, Dan Walsh lost the title to Dirden and the Tag Team Titles switched from the Bumrush Brothers to the Black Hand Warriors back to the BRBs. On top of that, Ricky Cruz had his attitude change and Travis Cook has been playing tag team roulette in a sense.
Executive Director Mark Bland allowed Jeremy Wyatt's "humble" request for a no-DQ match in the main event...any underhanded tactics by Wyatt would be perfectly legal, but it seemed to play into Dirden's wheelhouse as well.
Jackal vs. Ricky Cruz(w/ Lucy Mendez): Ricky's in full "dude, where's my title shot?" mode, but Bland is telling him to work his way back up the ladder. This was the shortest bout of the night; Jackal's aerial offense went awry and Ricky finished clean with the Cruz Control in 2:11.
Mike Sydal vs. "The Fittest Wrestler On Earth" Mark Sterling: Sterling's had a few WWE tryouts in recent months with another on the way; cool to hear. These two have faced each other a few times in the past(to say the least). Fine bout; Sterling avoided the yoga mat moonsault and won with an Air Raid Crash in 7:17.
"Walking Reality" Dan Walsh vs. "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher: Gallagher has darkened his hair with only a hint of blueness remaining. Walsh can't really call himself "The Polar Vortex" any more since winter is over. This one had been building since January when Gallagher began sticking his nose into Walsh's business, costing him multiple matches. Gallagher took advantage of Walsh's anger, repeatedly ducking through the ropes and then leaving the ring completely. The proverbial torpedoes were fired in the closing sequence and the ending made sense in the context of the feud; Gallagher successfully got into Walsh's head and escaped with a DQ win as a result in 9:28.
Steven Kennedy vs. "Showtime" Bradley Charles: SBC's nickname is a good indication of his mood for the evening: "Showtime" means rulebreaker, "Sir" means fan favorite. With K.C. Karrington on a break from the in-ring wars, Kennedy seems to be trending in a different direction(as hinted by his promos for the upcoming PWCS show). I figured Kennedy would do a promo to establish this, but SBC took matters into his own hands by attacking him from behind. Good underdog spots for Kennedy out of that...it looked like Charles had things wrapped up, but a last-second crucifix reversal led to Kennedy's win in 6:41.
MsChif vs. Lucy Mendez: Lucy established her role in the early segment with Ricky...not that MsChif was going to get booed. This got more time than I expected, oddly...I don't think I've seen too many of Lucy's matches with her in the rulebreaker role. MsChif got the win with the Desecrator in 14:00(!).
"The Irish Luchador" Billy McNeil vs. "The Littlest Viking" Jake Parnell vs. "Dynamite" Danny Cannon: This was an interesting dynamic compared to the rest of the card as all three men were fan favorites and worked a fast-paced style of match. I wonder if it would be a good idea to reintroduce the Light Heavyweight Title; there are several people on the roster who would fit into that niche. Cannon's not a big guy, but he has a good build and a LOT of intensity...have only seen him a few times. The ending was...unique to say the least and seemed to come out of nowhere, but it was a good case of reality ensuing as it relates to the usual trainwreck spot. Cannon had low-bridged Billy out of the ring and hit a major somersault plancha...Parnell teased his own dive like crazy, went to get his Viking helmet, then stumbled on the ropes and hung himself up. However, that meant he was the lone competitor in the ring as the referee's count reached ten...making Parnell the winner at 6:11.
WWE eventually made all multi-way matches no-countout-no-DQ to solve the problem of who would win if only one person was counted out or disqualified. That came up once when The Rock had a triple threat Intercontinental Title defense with Triple H and X-Pac; Rocky took a walk to get counted out and save his title. However, that left the ring announcer at a loss to name the official "winner". Random side note, but it was somewhat relevant here.
The Bumrush Brothers("The Don Mega" Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) vs. The Professionals(Shawn Santel & Mauler McDarby)(w/ Travis Cook): Within Dynamo, Travis has bounced from the Ken Kasa/Dave Vaughn duo to the Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean) to the Professionals in the past several months. Kasa is SICW Classic Champion and Vaughn is on a break from wrestling, so they've been absent from Dynamo for a little while. That led Travis to seek other clients and get the Tag Team Titles away from Shorty and Outtkast, if only for a few months. Santel & McDarby sneak-attacked the BRBs after they regained the belts in Fenton, leading to this matchup.
While Santel & McDarby had been aligned for a while in other promotions(MECW), this was my first time seeing them in an official tag match; in fact, this was McDarby's in-ring debut for Dynamo after having been in Santel's corner at previous shows. Really good extended bout here as Santel & McDarby worked well as a unit. As previously noted, the tag team scene in the area has really blown up in recent months. A close finish saw Outtkast small-package McDarby for the pin at 12:17; after that, Shorty hyped Outtkast's House Of Fun championship match at Off Broadway.
"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. "The Belt Collector" Jeremy Wyatt, no-DQ match for the Heavyweight Title: It turned out to be a rough night for the officials...I forget who officiated the Gallagher-Walsh match, but both refs took abuse in this one. Wyatt had a visual fall with Michael Crase down, so I guess he has plenty of motivation for another rematch. On the other hand, he intentially belted Jay King so he only had himself to blame when he didn't pin Dirden after the subsequent belt shot. As it turned out, Wyatt lived by the sword and died by the sword...Dirden returned the belt attack in kind for the final win in 19:49.
Quite a few things could stem from the aftermath...Walsh is already feuding with Gallagher and now may have an issue with Wyatt as well. Parnell got involved in the situation and his tag partner Alexandre Rudolph may be brought into things as well. Of course, the next Dynamo show is tomorrow night so we won't have long to wait for the fallout from this show...
I don't have full results from WLW in Richmond on Saturday, but the Facebook page says that Leland Race won the Heavyweight Title from Elvis Aliaga and Jack Gamble joined the Black Hand Warriors...hmm.

Anarchy Wrestling TV #429
-Todd Sexton d. The Laredo Kid(w/ Miss Rachael) with a forward-roll leglock. Sexton fought with "The Modern Classic" B.J. Hancock after the match; Joey Rhymer entered the fray to un-even the odds but "The Stray Cat" Brodie Ray Chase ran them off.
-C.B. Suave d. Seth Delay to retain the T.V. Title; Suave rolled through a rana by Delay and pulled the tights on the rollup pin.
-"The Five-Star King" Anthony Henry d. "The Revelation" Shane Marx; Miss Rachael was at ringside as she manages both men. Rachael's high-heeled shoe was brought into the match after the referee was knocked down, leading to Henry using it to knock out Marx for the win.
-"Hit For Hire" Bobby Moore d. "The Temptation" Shaun Tempers(w/ Agent/Attorney Jeff G. Bailey) by countout; Tempers retained the Young Lions' Title. "The Real" Slim J and "The Seven-Figure Deal" Ace Rockwell came out to watch the match from the ringside area. Slim J took the loaded elbowpad away from Moore and Rockwell ran away with Tempers' "Temptation" cologne, leading to an argument at ringside. Moore had the presence of mind to re-enter the ring, leading to Tempers getting counted out. It was announced that Tempers would defend at Hardcore Hell in a four-corner match with Moore, Slim, and Rockwell. Bailey demanded that the stipulations be set up so that Tempers wouldn't lose the title without getting pinned.

Cruz wasn't done for the night as he continued his abuse of the bloodied Old School Warrior; Shorty Biggs hit the ring to defend Chaz but Ricky fought him off. Commissioner Keith Smith stood up for his former tag team partner but Cruz laid him out as well. Referee Keith Smith Jr. finally ran out with a chair and that convinced Cruz to leave the ring.
-Larry did a sitdown interview with Ron Powers; he's teaming with Chaz against Ricky and Bull Bronson at next Saturday's show. Regarding Bronson: "I've gone through men bigger than you just to buy a woman a drink!"

Saturday DPW Results From Glen Carbon, IL
-Executive Director Mark Bland hyped the show but was interrupted by Jeremy Wyatt; Wyatt had his title shot but demanded that it be a no-disqualification bout. After Bland granted Wyatt's request, he was confronted by Ricky Cruz & Lucy Mendez as Ricky felt he deserved an opportunity as well. Bland put him in another match for the sake of "working his way up the ladder".
-Ricky Cruz(w/ Lucy Mendez) d. Jackal with the Cruz Control(swinging fisherman buster).
-Mark Sterling d. Mike Sydal with an Air Raid Crash after Sydal missed the Yoga Mat-Sault.
-Brandon Gallagher d. Dan Walsh by DQ. Gallagher tried to bring in the ring bell but the official took it away, giving Gallagher the opening to hit Walsh with a chair for a near-fall. The referee was knocked down and Gallagher hit a falling inverted DDT, but there was no one to count his pin attempt. Gallagher brought the chair back into the ring, but Walsh DDTed him on the chair...again, with no referee to count the fall. The ref recovered and Gallagher took a swing at Walsh with the chair, only for Walsh to get it away from him and hit him with it...but the referee saw this and disqualified Walsh.
-Steven Kennedy d. "Showtime" Bradley Charles; SBC controlled a lot of the match, but went for a lazy cover after an exploder suplex and Kennedy crucifixed him for the flash pin.
-MsChif d. Lucy Mendez after the Desecrator.
-Jake Parnell won a triple threat match with Billy McNeil and Danny Cannon by countout; Billy and Cannon were out on the floor and Parnell teased a dive onto both opponents before deciding to put on his Viking helmet in preparation...then hung himself up on the ropes in the process. However, the referee counted both McNeil and Cannon out of the ring, leaving Parnell as the unlikely winner.
-The Bumrush Brothers(Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) d. The Professionals(Mauler McDarby & Shawn Santel)(w/ Travis Cook) to retain the Tag Team Titles when Outtkast small-packaged McDarby.
-Jake Dirden d. Jeremy Wyatt in a no-DQ match to retain the Heavyweight Title. The match got out of control in a hurry as the two brawled outside the ring for several minutes. The two traded near-falls inside the ring until referee Michael Crase got knocked down by a Dirden big boot that was meant for Wyatt. Wyatt hit Dirden with his Lightning Spiral finisher and seemed to have Dirden pinned but there was no pin count; the other official Jay King ran in to count but Dirden kicked out of the delayed pin attempt. The frustrated challenger punched out King and tried to lay out Dirden with the title belt as he did in their previous match, but Dirden avoided the weapon and rolled up Wyatt...for no pin count as both refs were down. Wyatt was able to nail Dirden with the belt on the second try but both officials were still recovering. Wyatt brought a chair into the ring, but Dirden used the belt to his own advantage to knock out Wyatt as Crase made the pin count!
-After the bell, Wyatt snapped and attacked referee Crase. Jake Parnell ran in to help but was beaten down by Wyatt. Dan Walsh hit the ring as well and Wyatt backed off...for a moment, but he re-entered the ring to blindside Walsh. Dirden finally returned to the ring area to run off Wyatt...
