Dynamo Special Comment

Now, as promised, a special comment about Saturday's Dynamo Pro Wrestling show at the Stratford Inn in Fenton, Missouri.

Pretty good turnout for the show; this particular venue had bad luck with the weather.  The huge snowstorm hit on the night of the January show, then more winter weather hit on a show weekend in February.  March's event was flat-out cancelled due to the weather forecast.

Your ring announcers were Luke Roberts & Chris Roedel, your referee was Jay King(who had a LONG night).

Back-to-back talking segments to start the show; may have been a good idea to space that out a bit.  Not sure how they could have done it, though...Lucy Mendez came out as a fan favorite to accept the MWR award and then re-entered as a heel with Ricky Cruz later in the night.

I've known Keny G for a few years, starting when he ran High Voltage Wrestling...sucks to hear about anyone having health problems.  He's rebounded well from his stroke and it was cool of him to invite me over for WrestleMania XXX.  Don't know if I'll do a separate commentary on Mania weekend or not...lot of ground to cover there.

High Level Enterprise(Jack Gamble & Jon Webb) vs. Evan "Money" Morris & "The Littlest Viking" Jake Parnell vs. The Elitism(Brandon Espinosa & Ace Hawkins):  Well, Parnell has been hanging out with Alexandre Rudolph a lot lately...now he's fully transitioned into the Viking gimmick.  Gamble & Webb were the fan favorites, Espinosa & Hawkins were the rulebreakers, and Morris/Parnell were...somewhere in between.  The tag team division is suddenly overflowing in Dynamo...fitting for the only group in the area with active Tag Team Titles.  Webb is going to Japan in a few months, so good luck to him on that upcoming tour of duty.  Espinosa & Hawkins picked up the win...a possible sign of things to come in the Tag Title bout.

Brandon Aarons vs. Ricky Cruz(w/ Lucy Mendez):  Good to see Aarons back; he hadn't wrestled in this area for quite a while.  He looked pretty good despite the layoff...didn't see much ring rust.  Cruz had a pre-match confrontation with Executive Director Mark Bland to establish him as the heel...and Lucy's distraction set up Ricky's win.  Cruz has his sights set on the title and he's battled Dirden before, but now the gold will be at stake.

"The Polar Vortex/Walking Reality/Danimal" Dan Walsh vs. Showtime Bradley Charles:  Dan needs to pick a nickname and stick with it...heh.  Fine matchup with "The Alternative" Brandon Gallagher sticking his nose into Walsh's business once again.  Looks like we're finally getting that match at the Glen Carbon show in a few weeks.

On that topic:  I noticed a decided lack of hype for Davey Richards' presence on the May 19 show.  I imagine Davey is a question mark due to his TNA commitments...he's already been pulled off the St. Louis Anarchy show on May 2nd.

Elvis Aliaga vs. Mark Sterling:  Solid bout between these two...very competitive with Aliaga pulling out the crucifix pin in the end.  Aliaga remains in contention for the title...but who will be the champion when he gets his shot?

"The Urban Legend" Kevin X vs. "The American Viking" Alexandre Rudolph:  Battle of fan favorites here...they worked together fairly well given that scenario.  Rudolph got the MWR Future Star award earlier in the night, so it would have been a downer for him to just lose...they made it into a close finish with X winning via small package instead of one of his usual finishers.

The MWR award presentation to Jake Dirden set up Jeremy Wyatt's attack, establishing Dirden as the fan favorite for the night...well played there.

The Black Hand Warriors(Michael Magnuson & David DeLorean)(w/ Travis Cook) vs. The Bumrush Brothers(Shorty Biggs & Outtkast) for the Tag Team Titles:  The Warriors ended Shorty & Outtkast's lengthy title reign in February and this was the rematch.  This was one of my favorite matches of the night; these teams work very well together.  Travis took an accidental shot from Magnuson en route to the finish; Shorty & Outtkast regain the belts, but then all hell broke loose.

I was in a bad spot to see what happened after the bell...I saw Shawn Santel and Mauler McDarby in the audience and had a feeling they were there to do SOMETHING, but I wasn't sure WHAT.  There's another tag team in the mix...they could go in a lot of different directions from here.

"Dirdey" Jake Dirden vs. "The Belt Collector/Rebel" Jeremy Wyatt for the Heavyweight Title:  Wasn't sure how their styles would mesh, but they had a really good match.  Nice false finish and I totally bought that the belt might change hands, but we got a restart and Dirden retained.  What was Aliaga's motivation?  Did he just want Dirden to keep the title so he could beat him for it?  Either way, it started an instant issue between Aliaga and Wyatt.  After officiating every match on the card, Jay King got bumped during the closing sequence and then taken down in Wyatt's Crippler Crossface after the bell...he earned a rest after that.  On the horizon, Dirden has Davey Richards on the 19th(err, maybe) and Outtkast at Off Broadway...but Aliaga, Wyatt, and Cruz are in the picture as well.
