Living in the St. Louis area, I have seen a wide variety of independent wrestling shows. Dating back to Gateway Championship Wrestling in 2000, a lot of talent has competed in the Midwest. Some have even made it all the way to WWE(Evan Bourne, aka Matt Sydal). As I attend shows, I usually do "special comments" about what I saw. The title of this particular type of blog would hint at my political leanings, though I honestly don't pay THAT much attention to politics...

Been a while since I've attended a wrestling show in my hometown of Belleville...GCW ran there a handful of times in 2002-3, first at the Belle-Clair Fairgrounds and later at the Big Top Skatepark.
The show officially started at 8:00, but a long series of acknowledgements at the top of the hour led to the opening match going on closer to 8:30. Gotta plug the sponsors. :)
Dave Osborne seemed to click better in the ring as a heel...given the match setup, it was best for him to be the bully heel against the smaller and more charismatic LMC. I finally got to see LaMarcus Clinton win a match...and he gets major airtime on that big elbowdrop.
The Illinois shows have a unique introduction setup as both wrestlers come out to generic music and are introduced in the ring...seems to condense everything for the sake of the TV shows.
Fine matchup between Archer and Static. I think Static's Colt 45 move should be a finisher, but the buzzsaw kick is fine for larger opponents.
Interesting pairing of Chaz and Vaughn, but the more experienced team(Texan/Waco) won on that night.
Ace Hawkins essentially had a hometown crowd behind him as he's from the Metro East...and he finally picked up a win over his longtime rival Brandon Espinosa. We heard some mutual respect after the match as Espy acknowledged his role in training Hawkins for the business and praised him for getting to wrestle for Ring Of Honor at such an early stage in his career. Handshake, hug, yadda yadda...BAM, cheapshot. Don't turn your back on your teacher!
Guess I didn't really expect a decisive finish to the Gary Jackson-Kevin X match...this one isn't over by a longshot.
Chris Hargas has gotten a good push in SICW lately, including a recent challenge against Classic Wrestling Champion Ron Powers. Have known him for a while...he's been training down in Eldon at Harley Race's school.
Good tag team main event...Danny Boy did most of the work for his side, though of course Cowboy Bob can still fight. The finish set up another championship encounter between Danny and Ron Powers...YAY LINEAR BOOKING~!
In listing the May shows in my previous Special Comment, I forgot about St. Louis Anarchy on the 21st...it's a slow month for the most part, but that day has three different shows in the area.
