Midweek wrestling

TNA XPlosion

Commentators:  Jeremy Borash & Pat Kenney.

Brother Devon vs. Tag Team Champion Frankie Kazarian for the T.V. Title:  This is a rematch from Hardcore Justice.  Kazarian is upset that he wasn't announced as one-half of the World Tag Team Champions Of The World and calls Christy Hemme...gasp!...a "dumb dummy".  The opening cheapshot goes awry and Devon dominates with his power advantage, but Kazarian goes to the eyes to escape a running powerslam before hitting a spinning heel kick.  Devon stops Kaz in his tracks with a Rock Bottom...sounds like a comeback to me.  Devon rallies for a few two-counts, but Kaz escapes the Saving Grace(elevated inverted DDT) to deliver a TKO!  Cover...for 2 1/2.  Kazarian slaps him around, hits the ropes...and runs right into the spinebuster.  That'll do it for this defense of the T.V. Title...

WWE NXT6

Commentators:  Byron Saxton & S. William Regal.  Ring announcer:  Chris Russo.

Derrick Bateman vs. Antonio Cesaro(w/ Aksana Raudoniene):  This was taped before Cesaro's U.S. Title win over Santino Marella at SummerSlam.  Bateman looks good in the early going, but a Stungun turns the tide in a hurry.  Derrick rallies and Antonio rolls to the ropes to escape defeat...then Cesaro avoids a corner dropkick and delivers the deadlift gutwrench suplex.  One Neutralizer later, Cesaro picks up the victory.

A video package features current WWE wrestlers talking about the importance of being the first NXT Champion.

Tamina Snuka vs. Sofia Cortez:  Sofia talks a lot of trash and backs it up with a variety of kicks, then takes her down to the mat with a bodyscissors.  Tamina powers out of the move and backs Sofia into the corner, then fights back with chops and a superkick...for two.  Bodyslam, third floor, Superfly Splash, and pin...fare thee well, Sofia.  Tamina celebrates her victory...but Raquel Diaz attacks her from behind and paints the L on her forehead with lipstick(LOSER~!).

Jake Carter(w/o entrance) vs. Kassius Ohno:  It's different to see Carter in the face role...Ohno cuts off his early offense with a well-placed kick to the face.  CRAVATE~!  Carter powers his way into a comeback but Ohno sidesteps a charge and BAM, roaring elbow...that'll do it.  Ohno's not done as he attacks again after the match, delivering another roaring elbow...Richie Steamboat hits the ring for the save but Ohno was just leaving.

More from the main roster about the importane of the new NXT Title...

Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel vs. Michael McGillicutty & Johnny Curtis:  Jim Ross joins the broadcast team for the main event...cool.  YAY TAG TEAM WRESTLING~!  We're told that Steamboat has challenged Ohno to a match...we should see that in the upcoming weeks.  McGillicutty is isolated for a few minutes, but Curtis runs interference and MM takes out Gabriel with a big clothesline.  Out of nowhere, Curtis decides to go up for a corkscrew moonsault...nothing but mat!  Hot tag to Tyson Kidd and the house is on fire!  MM cuts him off with a drop-toehold into the turnbuckles, then Curtis tags in for a sideslam/slingshot legdrop combo!  Cover...Gabriel saves.  Curtis sets up a superplex but Kidd fights out of it, then goes for the Merosault only to slip on the ropes...ouch.  Kidd manages to come up with a swinging neckbreaker anyway but MM breaks up the pin.  Gabriel disposes of MM, then tags into the match...Kidd holds up Curtis for Gabriel to hit his own version of the Buff Blockbuster!  Gabriel pins Curtis after that for the tag team victory...nicely done.

Briley Pierce(who still works here) interviews Ohno backstage...he accepts the challenge from Richie Steamboat.

Byron interviews Seth Rollins and Jinder Mahal prior to next week's tournament final.  Seth is fired up.  Jinder speaks not-English(prompting a USA chant) and says he was born to be a champion.  Rollins is about to respond but Mahal gives him a cheapshot, sparking a brawl that ends with Seth clotheslining him to the floor and nailing a suicide dive on top of that!  Referees arrive to restore order and that's how our show ends...

Next week:  Seth Rollins vs. Jinder Mahal for the NXT Championship.

WWE Superstars.com

Commentators:  Scott Stanford & Matt Striker.  Josh Mathews is injured after being thrown around backstage by Kane at SummerSlam.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Damien Sandow:  Sandow enlightens us, as usual.  Yoshi gets a few quick near-falls and connects with a spinning heel kick, but goes to the top rope and whiffs on the top-rope version of the move.  Sandow hits the Russian legsweep and Elbow Of Disdain, then finishes with the Iron Lotus(Stanford gave it a different name but I didn't quite catch it).  CARTWHEEL~!

Alex Riley vs. Drew McIntyre:  Riley scored a rare win over Drew last week and this is the rematch.  McIntyre has a cracked bone in his hand and is wearing a soft cast as a result...that doesn't stop him from taking a cheapshot or two.  Drew stalls outside the ring after being clotheslined to the floor...Riley tries to dive off the steps onto him but hits only ringside barricade.  It's all McIntyre for several minutes after that...Drew beats down Riley in the corner, but climbs to the second rope to continue the beatdown and Riley sneaks out for a rollup/powerbomb move to take him down off the turnbuckles!  Just like that, Riley gets the flash pin...didn't see that coming.

Justin Gabriel vs. Cody Rhodes:  This is another rematch from a recent edition of Superstars...the commentators wonder if Cody can get his mind off his rivalry with Sin Cara.  Gabriel shows off some flashy new maneuvers to get the better of a technical exchange, ending in hiptossing Cody right out of the ring.  Cody tries to walk away from the situation but gets hit with a major suicide dive!  Gabriel keeps up the pressure with a missile dropkick for a near-fall, but Rhodes snaps the arm off the top rope to halt the momentum.  Hey, that's the previously-injured arm!  Stanford notes that Gabriel wears bands on BOTH arms so his opponent can't immediately pick out the bad limb in the heat of a match...PSYCHOLOGY~!  Despite that, Rhodes stays on the arm...Gabriel stuns him with a well-timed elbow only to whiff on a springboard moonsault.  Cover...gets two.  Cody goes back to the arm but Gabriel gets a monkeyflip out of nowhere...looks like a comeback to me.  Gabriel gets a version of the Blue Thunder Bomb for a near-fall(he couldn't power him up like usual because of the bad arm...PSYCHOLOGY~!).  Cody stuns him with a boot out of the corner but walks into a small package...for two.  Gabriel escapes a slam and goes for the Eye Of The Hurricane but Cody reverses straight into the Crossrhodes!  1-2-3, that'll do it.

TNA Impact

Commentators:  Mike Tenay & Taz.

Tara Varon d. Women's Champion Brooke Tessmacher in a non-title match after a superplex; Taryn Terrell was the referee.

Bound For Glory Series:  Robbie Eckos won a triple threat match with A.J. Styles and Rob Van Dam; RVD hit the five-star frog splash on Styles but Eckos got a quick rollup pin on Van Dam to steal the win.

Jeff Hardy d. Robbie Terry with the swanton bomb.

Phil Gunner d. Chris Lewie with the F-5.

Bound For Glory Series:  Ken Anderson d. Bully Ray with the Mic Check.

The TNA roster brawled with the ever-increasing numbers of the Aces & Eights to close the show...Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries was isolated and his arm was injured by a combination guardrail/chair attack.
