Good turnout for MMWA at South Broadway...though traffic was a mess on the Poplar Street Bridge due to construction.
The scheduled main event was Gary Jackson defending the Heavyweight Title in a triple threat match with T.V. Champion Dave Vaughn and Brandon Espinosa...but Espy wasn't at the show. Due to that development, a pair of mini-tournaments were held to decide who would advance to the triple threat title match later in the night. Not sure why Vaughn had to re-earn his spot in that match...but re-earn it he did.
It seems to be a lost art in wrestling to sell a finisher after the match...props to Jimmy D for not only doing that but wearing a sling during intermission due to the effects of Vaughn's Fujiwara armbar in the opener.
Pleasant surprise to see Brian James...it had been quite a while since I'd last seen him at a show. He has worked AAPW, RCW, and LWA in the past among other groups...he's a solid guy and hope to see him stick around.
No sign of the other half of the Tag Team Champions(Chase King) on this show. LMC had beaten Osborne a time or two in the past but the Battle Royal Champ picked up the win here(and threw LMC over the top rope afterwards, of course).
Didn't get a chance to see the previous match between Ricky Cruz and Ken Kasa at MMWA so it was cool to see it this time around. Call it a slight preview of the tag match at SICW this coming weekend...oh wait, that's tonight. I'm a procrastinator...
Wish the tournament had been structured better so we didn't have a heel-vs.-heel match(Vaughn vs. Archer)...
Pretty good promo by Osborne after his loss to Cruz...established motivation and also plugged the second annual King Of St. Louis Cable Tournament in September. Woo. A little birdie told me that a long-time Midwest competitor will make his return to action at that show...will wait until there's official word before revealing who it is, though.
Ran into someone at the show that I hadn't seen in a LONG time: Dan Velten, fka Ryan Ash. As I always note, he's the guy who introduced me to the local independent wrestling scene. Good to talk to him...he's doing well these days.
Cruz took a nasty bump to the floor and had to be helped back to the dressing room...hope he's doing okay. The finish came out of nowhere after a rare ref bump and a false finish with Vaughn using a chain...I suspect this feud MUST CONTINUE~!
Anywho, since I slacked so much on this...tonight is MECW in Wood River and SICW in East Carondelet. Don't think anyone in the immediate area is running next weekend.
In other local news, Dynamo is doing a "GCW Reunion" show in December...coolness, looking forward to that.
