NWA Anarchy TV #287

Your hosts are Tim E.D. & John Johnson.

Tommy Daniels vs. C.B. Gibson: Joined in progress, though it doesn't really matter as Jeff G. Bailey sends in Mikael Judas to destroy both men. Bailey rants and raves about how Se7en will ensure that Heavyweight Champion Shadow Jackson's career ends tonight...oh yeah, no-contest or something.

Jacob Ashworth vs. Bryan Cassanova for the Young Lions' Title: We get this match in clipped form...Cassanova upset Billy Buck a few weeks ago, if I'm not mistaken. Cassanova goes for his TKO finisher but Ashworth slides down the back into a sunset flip for the victory...but Cassanova dishes out some post-match retribution ending in the TKO. He sets up a second TKO but Billy Buck runs him off before the deed can be done.

Youth Gone Wild vs. The Ambassadors(w/ John Johnson) for the Tag Team Titles: Another clipped matchup without commentary...I presume they were having technical issues. Dustin Knight appears to tweak his knee at one point, leaving Anthony Henry to fight a good portion of the match by himself. The fans shout "Hey Hey Hey" to make fun of Jacoby Boykins...heh. Dan Wilson watches from ringside with Dany Only...and we see some issues with the tag champs as Henry doesn't want to tag in his injured partner despite Knight's insistence that he can go. Henry finally gets in enough trouble that he falls back into his corner and practically tags Knight by accident...but the house afire is put out fairly quickly as the Ambassadors take out the bad leg. Knight catches Chris Mayne by surprise with a small package(two-count) and then a flying neckbreaker, then kicks him away...but Boykins distracts the ref so he doesn't see the tag to Henry. The Ambassadors take out Knight with a powerbomb/backcracker combo and that should be it, but Only pulls the ref out of the ring and shoves him! That's a DQ and YGW keep the belts...an argument ensues between the heel teams(presumably the Hate Junkies were wanting to preserve their own future rematch with the champs) but Henry takes out everyone with a somersault plancha!

Billy Buck vs. Andrew Pendleton III: We're back to standard broadcasting for the moment. Both guys have been through the revolving door between singles competition and tag team warfare in recent years. Buck sets up for the Buck Wild superkick, but Cassanova runs in for the DQ...and it looks like Pendleton and Cassanova are on the same page. The save is made by the returning Adrian Hawkins and the faces hold the high ground...

Skirra Corvus vs. Dany Only(w/ Dan Wilson): The Reverend has some choice words for his former protege, thus solidifying the face turn. Corvus runs through his offense but Only delivers a well-placed knee at a key moment, following up with a hanging backcracker. Corvus makes the comeback and nearly wins with a re-entry sunset flip, but Only cuts him off with a Buh-Buh Bomb. Alabama Slam is set up but Corvus counters into a rollup to just barely notch the three-count.

Shadow Jackson vs. Se7en(w/ Jeff G. Bailey) for the Heavyweight Title: Back to clippage at this point...Shadow was badly injured by Mikael Judas a few weeks ago and Bailey takes a few cheapshots at the ankle for good measure. Se7en is relentless in his attack on the injured ankle...and so is Bailey when the openings arise. Jackson isn't the type to surrender and he desperately fights back...but he tries to Irish-whip Se7en across the ring and he can't put ANY weight on the ankle. Se7en makes the mistake of going semi-aerial and Shadow raises the knee of his good leg to block a Vaderbomb. It looks like Hulk-Up time...but his ankle is too badly hurt to deliver the 1031 Spinebuster. Se7en drops him with a gutwrench suplex/powerbomb hybrid and scores the shockingly easy pin...we have a newwwww NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Champion. General Manager J.T. Talent and the referee brigade hit the ring to check on Jackson's condition and assist him from the ring. Judas comes out to applaud the new champion's efforts and brings in the belt...but he holds it up in front of the new champion...and the two start fighting! Ladies and gentlemen, we have a face turn...Judas clotheslines Se7en out of the ring and throws him the belt to close the show. Should have guessed that Judas wouldn't associate with Bailey again so easily after their previous history...

Comedy Parts 379-80: Two-Fer

Location: Donna's House
Emcee: Me
Lineup: Kevin Bunetic, Andy Faasen, Charlie Winfrey, Andrew Topping, Ken Canamore

Location: Grove Deli
Emcee: Ben Flug
After: Kenny Kinds
Before: Kevin Bunetic

Doubleheader on Saturday...the first show was unique as it was essentially a house party with the comedy as one of the attractions. So, myself and five other local comics did a show in a living room with occasional heckling by parakeets. Donna has been a regular attendee of the local shows and asked us to perform...it was a lot of fun and even marked my fourth time being paid to do a comedy show in just over five years. Appreciate Donna and her friends for putting up with us and hogging the food and beverages. :)

Ben Flug has been putting on weekly comedy shows at the deli in Webster Groves for a while. This was my first opportunity to perform there...kind of an intimate setting for a comedy show. Myself and Kevin followed Faasen, A-Top, and Ken from Donna's show to the deli...me: "Sure, follow the stoners, no way we'll be late." :) A few people went over their time so the later sets were shortened...had been hoping to see how I'd do with more time, but maybe next week. Had a good time, at any rate.

FCW TV 7/24

Your hosts are Matt Martlaro & S. William Regal. Martlaro again asks Regal about his dealings with Maxine Perez...Regal dodges the question to hype the main event...

We're introduced to the dean of the University Of Florida, "Dean Martin"...I suspect shenanigans. His purpose is to give an overblown introduction for U Of F alumnus Byron Saxton...ah, this is about Byron's recent issue with Titus O'Neil. Saxton comes out in a graduation cap and gown(arm still in a sling) to accept an award from the college, complete with WACKY~! video testimonials. Byron overacts like crazy, then gets serious and addresses O'Neil...Saxton yells at Titus to just leave and quit embarrassing him...of course this brings Titus out and he chases Byron out of the ring. James Bronson and Erick Rowan suddenly materialize to back up Byron...looks like he's got some new backup. Unfortunately, "Dean Martin" forgot to evacuate the premises and he gets decked by Titus.

Husky Harris vs. Monty Lynch: Haven't seen Lynch in a while...despite Regal talking up his new training regimen, I don't like his chances here. Harris overpowers him with a high-altitude spinebuster and uranagi, then finishes in short order with the senton.

Briley Pierce interviews newcomer Rick Victor...he's got a shot at FCW 15 Champion Seth Rollins next week.

Tito Colon vs. Dean Ambrose: Notably, Ambrose has been targeting Rollins' previous rivals in FCW 15 competition...first Hunico, now Colon. Tito has an early flurry but Ambrose cuts him off with a Union Jack Cutter(something Regal notes to be one of his moves). Colon is able to catapult Ambrose into the turnbuckles, kicking off an offensive rally ending in a suplex chain and corkscrew Lionsault...for two. Ambrose hangs onto the ropes to block a backcracker attempt, then kicks Colon in the shin and snaps his throat off the top rope. LARIATOOOOO~! follows and the Emerald Frosion ends it. Ambrose is not at a loss for words following his victory...Regal compares him to Rowdy Roddy Piper which has to be considered high praise.

Xavier Woods vs. Leo Kruger: Kruger uses the edge of the ring to his advantage and traps Woods' foot in the corner, doing a lot of damage in the process. As Kruger dominates the action, Ricardo Rodriguez makes his way to ringside for some apparent scouting...hmm. Woods fights back and pulls himself up to the second rope for a flying elbow, then follows up with a Codebreaker for a two-count. Kruger clips the leg but falls victim to a rollup for two...Woods goes straight into an Oklahoma roll attempt but Kruger blocks it and gets his own pinning combination for the quick three-count.

Briley Pierce interviews Damien Sandow...he feels that he's the uncrowned champion since he scored a visual fall on champion Bo Rotundo in their previous title match.

Heavyweight Champion Bo Rotundo, Richie Steamboat, & Roman Leakee vs. Tag Team Champions Calvin Raines & Big E Langston & Alexander Rusev(w/ Raquel Diaz): Quite the powerhouse trio on the heel side...and quite the jump for Rusev as he just debuted last week and he's already in a main event matchup. The face side has quite the family history with Rotundo, Steamboat, and Leakee(son of Wild Samoan Sika). Rusev starts with Steamboat in a classic power vs. speed matchup...the faces utilize quick tags to isolate the inexperienced Rusev and Regal comments on not just the family history but the tag team experience of the respective families. Despite the assault from all three faces, Rusev is NOT knocked off his feet and mows down Leakee with a clothesline. That leaves Leakee in the wrong part of town against the raw power of the opposing side.

Leakee finally gets away from Raines long enough to tag in Steamboat and he flies off the top rope with a huge chop. Shoutout connects but Rusev cuts off a turnbuckle climb, allowing Raines to slam Steamboat off the ropes. Now it's Richie in trouble at the hands of the heel trio...Martlaro brings up the fact that Raquel also comes from a wrestling family(daughter of Eddy & Vickie Guerrero) so she may be lending some insight. Big E lends a hand to Raines' abdominal stretch...OLDSCHOOL~! Steamboat finally stuns Langston with a jumping enzuigiri and tags in Rotundo...the house is on fire! It takes a sustained offensive to finally take Big E off his feet with a bulldog. Raines enters and gets backdropped, Rusev enters and Leakee springs off Langston's back with a Flying Jalapeno! Steamboat takes himself and Raines out of the game with a Cactus Clothesline as Leakee spars with Rusev on the floor...Langston catches Bo in an attempted Big Ending, but Bo elbows out of it and comes off the ropes with the SPEAR for the win!

Next week: Seth Rollins vs. Rick Victor for the FCW 15 Title plus Husky Harris vs. Lucky Cannon...and Martlaro says that Regal has been called to meet with FCW President Steve Keirn regarding his recent association with Maxine. So long from the Sunshine State!

SICW Wrestling Explosion

-The Big Texan d. Pete Madden via abdominal stretch.
-Mark Sterling & Sean Vincent d. Gary Jackson & LaMarcus Clinton when Sterling pinned Jackson with a double-leg rollup and feet on the ropes.
-Flashback(didn't catch the date): Bobo Brazil won a handicap match against Jack Kruger & Pierre Bonet when he pinned Kruger after the Coco Butt(big jumping headbutt).
-Next week: Sir Bradley Charles vs. Waco, Dave Vaughn vs. Max Archer, plus a flashback featuring Kerry Von Erich and Rufus R. Jones.

FCW TV 7/17

Your hosts are Matt Martlaro & S. William Regal.

Richie Steamboat vs. Ricardo Rodriguez: Regal says Ricardo's face is one that he'd "never get fed up with punching". Ricardo gets an advantage by sheer luck, backdropping Steamboat over the ropes and causing him to hit his head on the steps on the way down to the floor. Martlaro touches on the text messages and phone calls that Regal was receiving last week...Regal quickly changes the subject. A fast-paced exchange ends in a superkick that earns Steamboat the win out of nowhere...surprisingly competitive effort by Ricardo, at any rate.

Earlier today: Briley Pierce interviewed Heavyweight Champion Bo Rotundo about his title defense tonight. In the background of the interview, we spot Maxine Perez cozying up to Regal...hmm. Back to live-on-tape, Regal is rather flustered over this revelation...

Earlier today(again): Briley interviewed Johnny Curtis...he's ready to win the big one and respect's out the window in the name of competition tonight.

Calvin Raines & Big E Langston vs. Percy Watson & Tito Colon for the Tag Team Titles: Watson & Colon upset the tag champs last week, earning this title shot. On the commentary front, Regal does his best to avoid the subject of his apparent dealings with Maxine...heh. Watson ends up on the wrong side of the ring and Raines hammers him off the apron to the floor. Martlaro mentions Wade Barrett and Drew McIntyre as former holders of the Florida Tag Team Titles, prompting Regal to make a wisecrack about Scotsmen. Percy turns it around out of nowhere by simply throwing Langston into his partner Raines in the corner, sending them both crashing to the floor! Tito gets the hot tag and goes aerial on the champs...DDT and corkscrew Lionsault connect on Raines, Langston tries to break up the pin but hits his partner by mistake. The ref gets tied up with Percy and Raines elbows out of Tito's Flatliner, boosting him straight up onto Big E's shoulder for the Big Ending! Nice combination move there...the ref turns around just in time to see Raines covering Colon for the three-count.

Briley Pierce interviews two of the newest additions to the FCW women's division, Sonia Yung and Audrey Marie. Audrey seems to have picked up where Courtney Taylor's old cowgirl gimmick left off.

Women's Champion Queen Aksana Raudoniene & A.J. Lee vs. Sonia Yung & Audrey Marie: Nice to see Aksana and A.J. have settled their past differences. The newbie heels quickly use roughhouse tactics to isolate A.J. from her corner...Martlaro tries to bring up Regal's dealings with Maxine and Regal avoids the issue again. Audrey hits turnbuckles on a blind charge and Aksana gets the hot tag...guess that walkout on Maxine a few weeks ago did mean a face turn. Audrey nearly steals a win on Aksana with a rollup and feet on the ropes, but the ref catches it...Audrey argues with the ref and that costs her the match as Aksana takes her out with a big roundhouse kick for the victory.

Mike Dalton vs. Alexander Rusev(w/ Raquel Diaz): Raquel handles the ring announcing for her new protege...big dude, his build reminds me of Scott Norton. Haven't seen much of Dalton lately but it would appear that squash is in season. Ruseve shows some surprising agility with some jumping knee strikes in the corner. Dalton tries to go aerial from the second rope and actually gets a victory roll for a ONE-count. Rusev overpowers him in short order and finishes with a pretty cool sequence...an Oklahoma roll turned straight into a released German suplex(similar to Douglas Williams' Chaos Theory)!

Bo Rotundo vs. Johnny Curtis for the Heavyweight Title: Curtis has been a Florida Tag Champ and won NXT4, but the Florida Heavyweight Title has eluded him to this point. Feeling-out to start(called as such by Regal) leading to some YAY WRESTLING~! They elude each other's moves in the early going, but Curtis reverses a whip into the corner in a fashion that the INNOVATIVE~! camera angle manages to completely obscure. Commercial break time...during which Rotundo returned the favor by tossing Curtis to the floor.

Bo's knee is in bad shape from his turnbuckle collision and we're told he spent most of the break trying to shake off the pain. A mid-ring collision leaves both men down and prompts Rotundo's comeback, starting with a trio of jawbreakers. Corner clothesline and bulldog get a near-fall for the champion...spear misses once but not twice...but Curtis kicks out at 2 1/2! Regal wonders if the knee injury affected the spear's impact. Rotundo rolls out to the apron and tries a re-entry sunset flip, but Curtis sidesteps and drops Bo across his knee...for two. Now it's Curtis' turn to go on offense...atomic drop/back suplex combo gets two. Curtis goes to the top rope...fights off Bo's attempt at a cutoff...HITS the guillotine legdrop...for 2 1/2!

Curtis tries to pick up the champion but he seems to be dead weight...however, Bo comes up with a double-leg takedown into a jackknife pin...for two. Backslide...for two. Small package...for two. Curtis cuts him off with his OWN spear...for two! Curtis goes topside again...guillotine legdrop misses this time! Both men are slow to rise...they slug it out in the middle of the ring, Rotundo flips out of a back suplex attempt, tries an O'Connor Roll but is blocked, but comes off the ropes to hit a second spear and that finally keeps Curtis down for three! We get the mutual respect after the match...

So long from the Sunshine State!

FCW TV 7/10

Your hosts are Matt Martlaro & S. William Regal.

Tag Team Champions Calvin Raines & Big E Langston vs. Percy Watson & Tito Colon, non-title: Interesting first-time teamup of Percy and Tito, let's see how they do against the powerhouse champs. Watson surprisingly comes out on top of a shoulderblock exchange with Raines, then he tags in Colon to keep Calvin off-balance with his aerial offense. The champs try to isolate Percy but he gets out of the corner, leading to a brief exchange of words between the partners...the faces capitalize and clear the ring with a pair of double-dropkicks. The commentators note that Watson/Colon are a new team, but then so were Raines/Langston when THEY won the belts. The champs get back on the ball and take control, isolating Percy and then quickly cutting off Tito when HE tags into the fray.

Throughout the match, Martlaro gets word on the participants in the four-corner main event while Regal hears nothing...Regal jokes about how he's a long-time friend of General Manager Norman Smiley and Norman really should stay on his good side. Immediately, Regal gets word in his headset on the final participant in said main event...heh. Calvin shows some agility by jumping to the top rope in one leap to deliver a flying clothesline...nicely done. Colon reverses a whip into a Flatliner out of nowhere...and tags are made on both sides! OH YEAH~! Percy whiffs on a dropkick but keeps up the pressure, nailing Raines on the apron...Langston attempts the Big Ending, Watson escapes and rams Langston into Raines, then gets the surprise three-count with an O'Connor Roll! I suspect Watson and Colon have earned themselves a title shot in the near future...

Briley Pierce interviews Alexander Rusev and Raquel Diaz...Briley doesn't quite have the hang of this interviewing thing, but Raquel does well enough for herself.

Earlier today: Matt Martlaro conducted a sitdown interview with Heavyweight Champion Bo Rotundo and Husky Harris. Bo has to defend his title next week against the winner of tonight's four-corner main event...Bo's ready for the challenge. Husky jokes about how he used to beat up his brother a lot when they were younger and they should just be co-champions. Rotundo wonders where that Nexus armband went...heh.

Hunico vs. Dean Ambrose: There has been a lot of hype surrounding Ambrose's arrival in FCW...he's got some tough competition for his TV debut against the former Tag Team Champion. He has no problems in the intensity department, though Hunico controls the early stages of the match. Hunico goes to the second rope early and Ambrose yanks him down by the leg...ow. Hunico gets off some more aerial offense and hits the rolling Death Valley Driver, but Ambrose retreats to avoid the Falling Star swanton bomb and then lures Hunico into a huge clothesline. He finishes with an Air Raid Crash(Regal actually calls it the Emerald Frosion)...quite the impressive debut for Dean Ambrose. Ambrose calls out FCW 15 Champion Seth Rollins once again after the match...

Husky Harris vs. Lucky Cannon: By order of GM Norman Smiley: Damien Sandow, Maxine Perez, AND Bo Rotundo have all been banned from ringside. Husky made amends with his brother last week by saving him from a beating at the hands of Cannon and Sandow. Husky goes right to town on Lucky, sending him into retreat mode and grabbing for a chair. However, the chair is just a feint as he pokes Husky in the eye while the ref is disposing of the weapon. Martlaro notices that Regal has received a text message during the match...Regal won't divulge what it's about. Harris makes the comeback...FLYING CROSS CHOP(tm Starman)~! A blind charge hits turnbuckles and Lucky tries a rollup, but Harris blocks that by holding the ropes and sitting on Lucky. Repeatedly. Cannon is down and in pain...Husky follows up with the SENTON~! and gets a big win over the former Heavyweight Champion!

Briley Pierce interviews Byron Saxton(w/ arm in sling)...Titus O'Neil was the big-shot University Of Florida graduate, but Byron reveals that he went to the same college and they were friends at one time. He even helped O'Neil and Sandow win the Tag Team Titles...but he feels like Titus disrespected him on NXT5 and then intentionally injured his shoulder in last week's match.

Quick shot of the broadcast table...Regal's cellphone is ringing off the hook.

FCW 15 Champion Seth Rollins vs. Mason Ryan vs. Johnny Curtis vs. Roman Leakee, non-title: As stated, the winner of this match gets a Heavyweight Title shot at Bo Rotundo next week. Ryan is a former champion and lost the title to Rotundo several months ago. Curtis had many shots at the title against several different champions, but "winning the big one" hasn't happened for him yet. Ryan is seen as the biggest threat for obvious reasons and he fends off his opponents one by one. It takes a double-team effort by Curtis and Rollins to finally knock Ryan off his feet, then double-clothesline him to the floor. Rollins tries to steal one with a quick rollup on Curtis but Curtis kicks out AND gets a Fujiwara armbar in the process. Outside the ring, Leakee posts Ryan and has to jump in the ring to break up Curtis' hold. Regal notes that Fujiwara helped him come up with the Regal Stretch...then notes that Curtis used his move when he takes out Leakee with a running knee strike. Fine exchange between the three faces in the matchup until Ryan finally gets back into things and overpowers everyone.

Regal talks up Ryan as a protege of his old friend El Bandido(OLDSCHOOL~!)...as it stands at this stage of the match, Ryan is the obstacle that the other three have to overcome. Curtis fights out of a superplex attempt but Ryan rolls out of the ring to avoid disaster. Rollins goes for the superplex and Curtis fights HIM off...Leakee tries his hand but Rollins takes out Leakee with a jumping enzuigiri from the apron. Rollins takes out Ryan with a moonsault off the apron, then powerbombs Leakee to break up his superplex attempt! Rollins covers, but Curtis breaks up the pin with a huge guillotine legdrop and covers Leakee for the three-count himself!

Next week: Bo Rotundo vs. Johnny Curtis for the Heavyweight Title. So long from the Sunshine State!

WWE Smackdown

Chief Operating Officer Triple H(COOHHH?) kicks off the show and World Champion Christian Cage wastes no time in sucking up to the new boss. H doesn't take kindly to the interruption and books Christian vs. Orton for SummerSlam...in a no-holds-barred match so there won't be a cheap victory this time. Interruption #2 comes in the form of the visiting "R-Truth" Ron Killings...HHH decides to solve these problems by booking these guys in matches...not a bad idea. Orton faces R-Truth...and Christian faces John Morrison.

Backstage, H meets with General Manager Theodore Long...and runs into Zack Ryder. H is sick of Ryder bugging him and makes him Long's assistant for the night. Huh.

World Champion Christian Cage vs. John Morrison, non-title: Booker T speculates on the potential ring rust for Morrison and whether he came back too soon...we'll see. Christian does target the previously-injured neck and Morrison does seem to favor it after that...Morrison hits the C-4 out of nowhere for a close near-fall but may not have done his neck any favors. Christian retaliates with the spear...for his own close near-fall. Christian goes to the top rope but Morrison backdrops him off the turnbuckles...Starship Pain misses and Christian snaps the neck off the top rope, then he finishes with the Killswitch.

Wade Barrett complains about not winning Money In The Bank...which brings out Daniel Bryan (and plenty of Michael Cole complaining). Bryan confronts Wade and they go over their past, leading to Barrett punching out Bryan. Wade takes too much time gloating...and Bryan takes him down into the LeBell Lock, making Wade tap like the proverbial drunk man. That actually shuts up Cole for a few seconds...amazing.

Nice video package on Justin Gabriel wrestling in his native South Africa for the first time as a WWE competitor...

Natalya Neidhart, Kaitlyn Bonin, & A.J. Lee vs. Alicia Fox, Rosa Mendes, & Tamina Snuka: Michael Cole buries anyone and everyone in this match as per, well, Michael Cole. Good for the usual quickie women's match on WWE TV...A.J. goes for one too many aerial move and misses, allowing Alicia to capitalize with the axe kick for the win.

Mark Henry vs. Bobby Howard(w/ Zack Ryder): No one wants to face Mark Henry after his destruction of The Big Show and Kane...understandable when you think about it. Howard is petrified and Ryder has to give him a pep talk just to get him into the ring. SPLAT, of course...two World's Strongest Slams, then a World's Strongest Backbreaker(KING SLENDER~!) end the pain. Henry decides to add to the pain and goes for a chair(the commentators just BAIL without a word)...he sets up the Vaderbomb with the chair on the leg, but Long RUNS out to put a stop to things. Long brings up his past as Henry's manager and tries to talk him down, saying he's got lawsuits pending from Henry's recent destruction...and then SHEAMUS O'SHAUNESSY comes out. Sheamus wants to take this challenge(they did have some brief history on Raw)...ladies and gentlemen, it looks like we have a face turn! Henry trash-talks him and earns a slap in the face, then Sheamus low-bridges him out of the ring and grabs the chair to hold him off. Henry decides to leave well enough alone at that point...

The New Nexus vs. Jimmy & Jey Uso for the Tag Team Titles: Hey, I remember those belts! The NXT newbies seem to change theme music every other week these days. Josh Mathews and Booker decide to start completely ignoring Cole, to their credit. Another match that doesn't get nearly enough time, especially since it's a title bout. The running buttsmash in the corner is more remiscient of Umaga than Rikishi, but we're not allowed to talk about the first guy. David Otunga slams Jimmy off the apron, then runs interference to prevent a top-rope splash by Jey...that gives Michael McGillicutty the opening to nail the McGillicutter to retain the belts.

Backstage, Long confers with Ryder again...Zack has booked a Very Special Handicap Match(tm) for tonight. Blarg.

Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson vs. Legacy, non-title: Cole's list of excuses for his loss to Ryder are a mile long. If the loaded side wins a handicap match...well, they SHOULD, they've go the numbers advantage. If the loaded side LOSES a handicap match, they look pathetic. Ted DiBiase Jr. saves Cody Rhodes from a torture rack attempt...then a blind charge by Jackson hits the ringpost shoulder-first and Cody wins with the Crossrhodes.

Jinder Mahal(w/ The Great Khali) cuts a promo from a skybox(because HE'S RICH~!). Any wrestling in your plans, Jinder?

Randy Orton vs. "R-Truth" Ron Killings: I must note that while Christian is the World Champion, it's Randy in the featured matches on Smackdown. Truth takes over after snapping Orton's throat off the top rope, then gets a near-fall after his suplex/Stunner move. That needs a name AND should finish people. Christian comes out to observe the proceedings and Truth gets another close two-count after the Lie Detector. Truth makes the mistake of going to the second rope and executes a flawless flying gutdrop to Orton's fist. El Big Comeback ensues...powerslam and hanging DDT connect, but Christian slowly makes his way to ringside and Truth slides out of the ring to avoid disaster. Orton follows him out and Truth rams Orton backwards into the edge of the ring, then(with Christian distracting the ref) smacks him across the head with a water bottle. DIRTY POOL~! The ref teases a countout, but Orton re-enters and wails away on R-Truth...then brings a chair into things and gets DQed for it. THAT WON'T MATTER AT SUMMERSLAM~! Orton decides to seriously earn that disqualification, bashing Truth with a monitor and giving him an RKO onto the broadcast table! Randy glares at Christian, then pulls Truth back up and RKOs him on the table AGAIN.

Rasslin

TNA XPlosion

Brutus Magnus d. Shannon Moore to advance in the XPlosion Championship Challenge Tournament. Douglas Williams yanked Moore off the apron at a key moment, allowing Magnus to capitalize with the Mag Daddy Driver for the victory. Magnus will face the winner of next week's match between Tommy "Crimson" Mercer and Brother Devon in the semifinals, meaning our fourth quarterfinal will be Williams vs. Shawn Hernandez.

WWE Superstars

Trent Baretta vs. Heath Slater: Heath seems to be going for the "One-Man SOUTHERN Rock Band" motif now...hmm. Trent hits a huge somersault plancha in the early stages of the match...but he goes for one aerial move too many and gets punted in the gut. Slater focuses his attack on the midsection after that...Trent tries to mount a comeback but Heath stops that with a Stungun. Trent comes back with the big corner elbow and the springboard dropkick...for two. Jumping enzuigiri and Gobstopper Knee...get 2 1/2. Dudebuster DDT is blocked and Heath catches him with a huge spinebuster...for two. Slater charges into the corner and eats a boot from Baretta...for two. Trent goes topside but Heath cuts him off...back suplex off the top is attempted by Trent elbows him away. Whisper In The Wind...hits nothing but mat! Heath capitalizes with the Sweetness v3.0(snap inverted DDT) to notch the three-count.

Tag Team Champions The New Nexus vs. Santino Marella & Chris Masters, non-title: Geez Santino, pick a partner and stick with him. Scott Stanford, like S. William Regal, is a trooper and does bring up the fact that Santino's been playing musical chairs with his recent tag partners(first Vladimir Kozlov, then Zack Ryder, now The Masterpiece). Stanford says The New Nexus members are implementing a secret body oil that would allow them to potentially escape the Masterlock...oooookay, Scott. David Otunga avoids a Cobra-fueled disaster via timely assistance from Michael McGillicutty, allowing The A-Lister to throw Marella to the floor. Santino takes a beating from the champs...but he escapes a suplex attempt from McGillicutty with a Stunner(!). Hot tag to Masters and the house is on fire...Skyhigh on McGillicutty but Otunga breaks up the pin. Santino actually puts on a snake-styled sleeve and hits Otunga from behind with a variation of the Cobra, sending him to the floor. McGillicutty hammers Santino out of the ring and nearly gets caught in the Masterlock but Masters can't get the fingers locked and McGillicutty runs him into the turnbuckles to escape. He quickly follows up with the McGillicutter and the champs get the win. Stanford guesses the oil did work...go figure.

Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger: These two crossed paths in a six-man tag on Raw recently where Riley got the pinfall on the former World Champion, so now they meet one-on-one. Given their respective personaes, this seems like a fight you'd see at a frathouse some Saturday night after one too many kegstands. (Okay, I'll shut up. YAY WRESTLING~!) Josh touches on the fact that Swagger was a defensive lineman in college while Riley was the quarterback for his college team, so it's defense vs. offense, or something. It's an even matchup for a few minutes but Swagger bashes Riley off the apron to take over and then sends him into the ringside barricade. Swagger keeps the edge and begins targeting the leg to set up for the anklelock...but Riley hits an STO out of nowhere. Riley spears Swagger and goes on offense, hitting his own version of a spinebuster. Riley delivers an overblown elbowdrop that Stanford dubs the "A-Bomb" and shockingly it only gets a two-count. Swagger rams Riley into the turnbuckles chest-first and clotheslines him from behind, then hits the running Vaderbomb and hooks the anklelock. Riley is able to escape the move and pull Swagger into his own rough meeting with the turnbuckles. With Swagger slumped on the ropes, Riley delivers a running dropkick from the floor, then follows up with the elevated DDT for the 1-2-3.

TNA Impact

-Bound For Glory Series: Rob Van Dam d. Phil Gunner with the five-star frog splash.
-Bound For Glory Series: Tommy "Crimson" Mercer d. Bully Ray with the Red Sky.
-Winter Lea(w/ Angelina Love) d. Women's Tag Team Champion Tara Varon(w/ Miss Brooke Tessmacher) with the swinging uranagi backbreaker; the referee ejected Love and Tessmacher from ringside before the match.
-Brian Kendrick d. Abyss in an Ultimate X Match to retain the X-Division Title; Abyss attempted to chokeslam Kendrick, but Kendrick grabbed the belt down from the Ultimate X structure in mid-move to win.
-Kurt Angle d. Ken Anderson in a cage match; the members of Fortune were at ringside to prevent any involvement by Immortal. Immortal did make an appearance late in the match to brawl with Fortune and Mexican American also joined in the fight. Bully Ray faked passing in a chair to Anderson and that gave Kurt the opening to finish with the Olympic Slam.

Added to Hardcore Justice: Kendrick vs. Alex Shelley vs. Austin Aries for the X-Division Title, plus a Fortune vs. Immortal six-man tag with participants to be named later(by process of elimination, the face side would be A.J. Styles/Christopher Daniels/Frankie Kazarian and I'm pretty sure the heel side includes Gunner)...

Went a few weeks without stage time...didn't make the list at the Funny Bone last week and I totally forgot to e-mail and sign up for Etc. Slightly better on the stage time this week...was kinda disappointed in my set at the Funny Bone since I forgot some jokes I wanted to try...wasn't bad, just not quite as good as I had hoped it would be. I have a joke about getting cut off in traffic that may end up on the back burner until I can come up with a better punchline for it. The new material I tried at Etc. worked a bit better though I had to glance at my notes a few times. Actually tried out a joke that one of my non-comic friends had posted on Facebook...it's a topical joke so it probably won't have much shelf life anyway, so I figured I'd get it out there(um...retroactive thanks, Tom, LOL).

WWE NXT5.com

Your hosts are Todd Grisham & S. William Regal.

Titus O'Neil vs. Derrick Bateman: We're in Philadelphia so Bateman is decked out in the Apollo Creed-style red-white-and-blue shorts. So where are Hornswoggle and Daniel Bryan? Regal does note that O'Neil is working on establishing his own personality without the leprechaun at ringside, so there's a partial explanation. Darren Young makes his way to ringside to observe the proceedings...Titus tosses Bateman out of the ring and Young consults with Derrick on the arena floor. Regal wonders why Young doesn't have an issue with Bateman...the commentators theorize that they're working together to eliminate the biggest threat. Bateman tries to go aerial and misses badly on a Steamboat Press attempt, cueing the rally from O'Neil. A well-timed foot grab by Young allows Bateman to deliver a dropkick from behind...he follows up with the Mantastic DDT~! to finish the job.

Backstage, Hornswoggle finally meets his secret admirer...A.J. Lee! Great, now I'm jealous of the midget. Maryse Ouellet shows up to make fun of the happy couple...and A.J. beans her with a bouquet of flowers. Ha ha.

Vladimir Kozlov and J.T.G. continue their odd little feud.

Yoshi Tatsu vs. Tyson Kidd, pendant-on-a-pole match: The pendant consists of the leg from Yoshi's action figure that Kidd destroyed. I guess they COULD be feuding over shampoo or something. Tatsu brings the action figure to ringside in bandages...yup. Yay wrestling? Regal's a trooper, playing it completely straight...Yoshi's fighting for his personal honor and Kidd is doing anything he can to rile up his rival. Yoshi's momentum backfires on him as a flying knee off the steps hits only the ringside barricade. The two end up fighting on the turnbuckle below the pole, leading to BOTH men crashing to the floor.

Kidd gets a Liontamer in the ropes and there are no DQs in this match so he can hold it for a long as he wants. He releases the hold to go for the win, but Yoshi cuts him off and decks him with the big roundhouse kick! Kidd recovers in time to cut off Yoshi's ascent in the corner, leading to another fight on the turnbuckles...Yoshi gets a hold of the pendant even as Kidd delivers a top-rope German suplex(!), which means Tatsu is the winnah...but Kidd attacks from behind and decides to do some damage to Yoshi's ACTUAL leg. Shinbuster onto the broadcast table! Ringpost figure-four~! The referees finally restore order but the damage has been done...

NWA Anarchy TV #286

Your hosts are Tim E.D. & John Johnson.

Ace Rockwell talks up the NWA North American Title tournament finals...can he win the big one? Shaun Tempers retorts.

General Manager J.T. Talent talks up the match to the fans in attendance...um, good luck living up to the hype, guys...NWA officials want no interference, so Talent has appointed a special ringside enforcer: Former promoter Jerry Palmer. Dan Wilson comes out with the modest request to do the play-by-play for the match alongside John Johnson...OLDSCHOOL.

Ace Rockwell vs. Shaun Tempers, NWA North American Title tournament finals: Metric asston of history between these two as they started out as tag team partners(Pomp & Circumstance) before Tempers went heel, sparking an ongoing rivalry that has lasted to this day. It should be noted that it was actually Dan Wilson who lured Tempers to the dark side. The tournament went like this:

Quarterfinals: Ace Rockwell d. Chrisjen Hayme at an NWA Main Event show; Kyle Matthews d. Chip Day at an NWA Pro South Wrestling show; Shaun Tempers d. Caprice Coleman at an NWA Anarchy show; Corey Hollis d. J-Rod at an NWA Rampage Pro Wrestling show.

Semifinals: Tempers d. Hollis at an NWA Chattanooga show, Rockwell d. Matthews at an NWA Anarchy show.

It doesn't take long for the trash-talking and shoving to begin, then we get an extende dlockup before Tempers fails to break clean in the corner(HEEL~!). Wilson notes that Rockwell is just a day removed from an I Quit Match with Andrew Alexander in NWA Chattanooga so who knows if he's 100%. Ace fires back with armdrags, forcing Shaun to bail out of the ring and regroup...he re-enters only to run into another armdrag. However, Rockwell goes to the well once too often and Tempers hangs onto the ropes, causing Ace to hit the mat hard as he goes for another armdrag. Tempers grabs a waistlock and keeps going back to that hold(a la Ace with the armdrags). Shaun blocks an O'Connor Roll attempt only to take a high knee to the back, sending him floorward once again.

Johnson relates some of the past history between the two where the grudge ran so deep that they used a claw hammer as a weapon against each other...those tactics won't be tolerated in this one. Ace goes out after Shaun and sends him back in the ring, but that backfires as Tempers dumps him on the top rope, then stuns him with a kick and knocks HIM to the outside with a rolling elbow. Ace nearly gets counted out but manages to re-enter the ring...Tempers would have been content to win by countout since he would win the title by any sort of victory. Rockwell fires up only to be reversed into a powerslam for our first two-count.

Tempers starts focusing his attack on the back, then attempts the Rude Awakening out of nowhere but Ace counters with a backslide...for two. Tempers cuts him off and once again slows the pace to his liking. Johnson mentions that this belt has been decided in the NWA Arena in the past when NWA Wildside alumnus Shawn Hernandez held the title. Tempers seems to set up his own backslide but turns it into a Gory Bomb...for 2 1/2. Tempers maintains methodical control...at least until Rockwell backdrops him over the top rope.

Tempers re-enters the ring only to eat a dropkick, kicking off a flurry of offense by Ace...but a Stinger Splash is met rather directly with a forearm to the face. Tempers charges...right into a spinebuster and that gets 2 1/2. Stinger Splash is avoided again, but Ace lands on the second rope, head-fakes, then jumps over into a sunset flip(a la Christian Cage) and rollup for 2 1/2. Rockwell delivers the airplane spin and it doesn't seem to do either man any good...in fact, Tempers recovers first with KICK WHAM BEELZEBOMB...for 2 1/2. Knee to the gut is countered into a rollup out of nowhere for 2 1/2...and Tempers gets a TRIANGLE CHOKE out of his kickout! Ace manages to power his way to the ropes to escape the hold, but it took a lot out of The Seven-Figure Deal...

Tempers wastes time arguing with the referee, thinking he had won with the triangle choke...and he runs right into Aces High...for 2 1/2! Tempers hits a desperation jawbreaker, but runs into another dropkick from Ace and both men are down. Cue the twenty-minute sell...oh wait, it's BEEN twenty minutes. Rockwell goes topside and dives, Tempers moves but Ace lands on his feet...Tempers hits Aces High on Rockwell! Cover...for 2 1/2! Back suplex attempt but Ace backflips out, landing on his feet and getting a rolling prawn cradle...for 2 1/2. Tempers snaps off the Rude Awakening out of nowhere! Cover...for 2 1/2!

Johnson starts to wonder about Ace's condition, citing his past neck problems...Tempers hooks a cobra clutch, perhaps looking for the Temper-Pedic. Ace runs at the ropes and stops short, sending Tempers flying through the ropes. Rockwell goes to the top but Tempers yanks the foot, dropping him rather painfully on the turnbuckle. Temper re-enters and attempts the superplex but Rockwell fights out of it...tornado DDT is blocked but Ace keeps fighting and hits DIAMOND DUST...for 2 1/2! Wilson notes that the move(which he calls the Ultimate Highlight) was similar to his part of the old Pomp & Circumstance double-team finisher...wow. Rockwell keeps up the pressure but gets caught in the Temper Tantrum(bridging head-and-arm suplex)...for 2 1/2.

Ace shoves Tempers back into the corner, hits a close-range Stinger Splash, tries the bulldog but gets pushed off...elbows Tempers back and hits the bulldog from a running start...for 2 1/2. The two slug it out in the middle of the ring...Tempers gets the upper hand for a moment but Rockwell will not die. Tempers blocks an Aces High attempt and gets the cobra clutch...Ace backs him into the turnbuckles repeatedly to break the hold. Tempers gets the hold again and this time Ace may be fading...the arm drops once, twice...NOT thrice. Ace tries to elbow out, but Tempers turns it into the Temper-Pedic(cobra clutch backbreaker) and maintains the hold, locking on the bodyscissors in the middle of the ring...Rockwell finally taps out! Shaun Tempers is the new NWA North American Champion!

Post-match, Ace grabs the belt...but he respectfully puts it on Tempers' shoulder and leaves the ring without incident. Announced match time: 32:30. We're out...yay wrestling.

MECW Special Comment

For those with theories about my weekend plans: You're probably going to believe whatever you choose to believe anyway and nothing I could say would change that. Let's move on.

Really good crowd...sometimes a little too good as members of the locker room had to settle down a particularly inebriated audience member late in the show!

Good show-opening promo as Mannix apologized for his rather colorful language at the end of the previous show, then went into detail about how Reno was once a trainee of his. That brought out Reno who claimed to have accomplished more in two years of wrestling than Mannix had in thirteen.

MECW recently acquired a sponsorship from Monster Energy Drink...cool for them, though I shouldn't have chugged one of those things last night as it took me forever to get to sleep. Heh.

With the chaotic nature of Sinn Enterprises' formation, not many clean finishes in MECW these days...just saying. I have noticed that in the past about MECW shows as they seem to be a bit heel-heavy on the winners' side of things.

I feel for MECW's lone referee as he's very new to the game and is undergoing a baptism by fire in officiating EVERY match on the show...I can remember the days when Max Archer was in a similar role for GCW. Local ref Eric Davis occasionally also works entire shows lately. It's one of those things where you don't grasp the importance of the referee's role until you see a ref who, with all due respect, isn't very polished in his role.

Kharfu seems to employ more of a brawling style than his compatriots and he wrestles in street clothes instead of wrestling gear...he's got some good moves, at any rate. Still trying to get a read on the newcomers, having only seen them a handful of times.

Wish they'd elaborated more on Eric Allen's recent actions as he seemed to be aligned with Bailey and company against a common enemy only to stab them in the back at last month's show. Guess he should quote C.M. Punk: "I'm a snake!"

Didn't completely catch how the finish went down in the tag match, though I think I got it right. Not sure why the referee was tied up with Buddy Roberts Jr. since I'm PRETTY sure Buddy was the legal man at the time...however, the ref missed a tag or two during this matchup. Perhaps more glaringly, there was at least one occasion where the ref ALLOWED a tag he should have MISSED. Again, he's new to the game and it's not an easy job by any means...particularly in tag matches where you have to keep track of more people(including cornerpeople).

Evan Money had a marathon night as he wrestled a lengthy opener at IHW against Ace Hawkins, then worked the majority of the lengthy tag match at MECW.

The main event was a good matchup(heck, can't recall any of the matches being BAD on this show)...though the finish was confusing. Not only did Sarin Sinn pull the referee out of the ring when Mannix had Reno pinned after his finisher, he punched the ref in the face! That somehow didn't warrant a DQ, but Mannix curbstomping Reno onto a chair outside the ring DID cause a disqualification. At least they sent the fans home happy with the post-match Mannix Depression through a table^H^H^Hdoor.

Not much local next weekend...AAPW runs in Carbondale but that's a long drive for me. Will need to take a look at how August shapes up.

As for the rest of the weekend...IHW ran in East St. Louis. Heavyweight Champion Cameron Cage was not present due to a reported injury so scheduled challenger Shorty Biggs was put in Mephisto's spot in the scheduled tag match. C.M. Punk paid a visit to AAW at the behest of his longtime friend Colt Cabana. Claudio Castagnoli dropped the PWG Heavyweight Title to Kevin Steen amid rumors about both Claudio and Chris Hero's futures in the wrestling business(GOOD rumors, mind you). Interesting times in the wrestling world, to be sure.

SICW Wrestling Explosion

This show was dedicated to some of the biggest stars of the Wrestling At The Chase era, including Dick Murdoch, King Kong/Bruiser Brody, Baron Von Raschke, and Dick The Bruiser...it featured match clips and some classic interviews. Highlight of the episode was Murdoch's interview...he gloats about beating Ted DiBiase with the brainbuster and Larry Matysik points out that he used the move on the arena floor. Murdoch, without missing a beat, just says "someone moved the ring" and continues on his spiel. :-D

Next week: Gary Jackson & LaMarcus Clinton vs. Mark Sterling & Sean Vincent.

Show results

Saturday MECW results from Wood River, IL

-Shawn Santel d. Count Kharfu(w/ Tag Team Champion Sarin Sinn & Mizfitt Manners) to retain the Independent Title; Sinn accidentally hit Kharfu with his bat at one point, allowing Santel to capitalize with a swandive headbutt off the top rope for the victory. Kharfu attacked Santel after the match, laying him out with a Stungun and backcracker.
-Mizfitt Manners(w/ Caitlyn) d. Mauler McDarby; Caitlyn pulled Manners out of the way of McDarby's charge into the corner, allowing Mizfitt to get the rollup win.
-Eric Allen(w/ Leon Alexander) d. Barry Ryte to retain the Great Plains Title; Leon's distraction gave Allen the opening to punt Ryte below the belt and get the win with a rollup and handful of tights. Allen attempted to do some post-match damage but was planted with the Ryte Of Passage.
-Mike Anthony & Sarin Sinn(w/ Caitlyn) d. Evan Money & Buddy Roberts Jr. by DQ to retain the Tag Team Titles; the match ended on a questionable call by the official as Sinn brought out brass knuckles while the ref was arguing with Roberts(who I'm PRETTY sure was legal). Money got a hold of the knucks and nailed Sinn with them, but the referee turned around at that moment and called for the disqualification.
-Justin Reno(w/ Tag Team Champion Sarin Sinn & Mizfitt Manners) d. Heavyweight Champion Bailey Mannix by DQ; chaos broke loose at the end of the match as Sinn pulled the ref out of the ring as Mannix seemed to have Reno pinned after the Mannix Depression(modified Death Valley Driver). The other members of Sinn Enterprises ran interference, but the use of the Monster Energy Drink sign(SPONSOR~!) backfired this time and Mannix took the offensive. An enraged Mannix delivered a sick curbstomp on Reno onto a chair outside the ring, but the referee called for the disqualification after this action(despite allowing Sinn's actions earlier in the match to go unpunished). Mannix brought out a wooden door and set it across two chairs, then dropped Reno through it with the Mannix Depression! Mauler McDarby(acting as ring announcer for the main event) announced a Mannix-Reno title match for the next show on 8/27, saying it would be a "Let's Make A Deal Match" where you won by smashing your opponent through a door!

SICW Special Comment

Sure, let's do this a week after the fact...

Surprised to see Pete work the opener but he had a full night. Hadn't seen Ryan Drago before, fine showing and cool guy. I demand a triple threat mustache match with Drago, Brett Young, and Marion Fontaine. BOOK IT~!

Wasn't aware that Kevin X was in the military but there you have it. Best of luck to him. No truth to the rumor that Kevin's long-lost brothers Kevin XI and Kevin XII will be entering the tag team division...I apologize for that lame joke, but partial blame goes to Ben Simon for giving me the idea.

Nice surprise to see Sir Bradley Charles in the house...had been a while since I'd seen him at a show.

Potential heel turn for Archer...hmm.

Throwback finisher night...Pete finished the opener with a Northern Lights suplex, a cool move that I don't see used as a finisher very often. (Owen Hart finished with it shortly before his heel turn.) Kevin won with a bridging O'Connor Roll(which BOB BACKLUND once used as a signature finish). Vaughn won with a sleeperhold...that USED to be a dangerous hold, then a big finisher for a select handful of wrestlers, then a glorified chinlock. Dolph Ziggler brought it back into play as a legitimate finisher and Samoa Joe's Kokita Clutch(rear naked choke) is essentially a sleeper with a bodyscissors. On top of that, Texan defeated Pete(who admittedly had already wrestled AND done the armwrestling challenge) with an abdominal stretch, a finish that came out of absolutely nowhere.

While it would have been a big push for the injured Hargas to defeat Texan, it was probably the right move to just pull him out of the match to sell the injury(he DID take a piledriver, after all).

Ben had a good point...Chaz should have been a bit more upset about Hargas busting up his title match. Maybe that'll come into play in next month's tag match...meanwhile, Hargas may have also started an issue with long-time friend Dave Vaughn.

Fine matchup between Lucy and Stacey...haven't seen much of Lucy but I believe I saw one of Stacey's first matches ever in East Carondelet a few years ago against Alexis Lightfoot and she's done well for herself since then. Stacey is scheduled for the next Dynamo show against MsChif and has been working Metro Pro regularly as well as WLW. Lucy is another WLW product who has also been working MPW. Notably, Stacey's the face and Lucy's the heel in Metro Pro...heh. Larry Matysik reportedly had high praise for the match as well.

The main event was fine with an odd finish...Gary was complaining that Sterling wasn't legal when Vincent clearly made the tag. You'd think Jackson would have had a more of a problem with Sterling using the ropes for illegal leverage on the pin, but then HE WILL CHEAT IF HE HAS TO~! Cool that they already have two matches set up for the next show.

This weekend has IHW and MECW, next weekend has AAPW in Carbondale and I may have to decide whether or not to make the long drive for that...

WWE Smackdown

-World Champion Christian Cage d. Intercontinental Champion Ezekiel Jackson(n/t) via Killswitch(though it took him a few tries to successfully execute the move).
-Daniel Bryan d. Heath Slater via guillotine lock. In a pre-match interview conducted by Michael Cole(which went about as you'd expect), Bryan said he'd cash in his Money-In-The-Bank briefcase at WrestleMania XXXVIII...hope that goes better for him than the last guy who said he'd do that.
-Sheamus O'Shaunessy fought(literally) Wade Barrett to a double countout; after the match, the fight continued until Sheamus laid out Wade with a pump kick. Potential face turn?
-Randy Orton d. Kane in a street fight that saw both men suffer leg injuries over the course of the matchup. Kane survived an RKO(!) and Orton survived a chokeslam; Kane teased a Tombstone onto a chair but Orton escaped the move and hit a second RKO(this time onto the chair) to get the win. Kane uncharacteristically offered a post-match handshake which Orton accepted...but then Mark Henry attacked the wounded Kane and wrapped a chair around his leg to deliver the same modified Vaderbomb that he used to injure The Big Show on Sunday.

Thursday Wrestling Viewing

TNA XPlosion

Alex Shelley vs. "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero: We're into the quarterfinals of the XPlosion Championship Challenge Tournament...YAY WRESTLING~! Pope teases using his chain as a weapon, but sees Brother Devon's family at ringside and decides against it. CONFLICTED~! Devon's sons talk to Dinero at ringside...that brings out Devon himself to tell his sons to stay in the backstage area. Pope takes Devon's side and says it's okay, but the distraction gives Shelley the opening to deliver a plancha. Devon remains at ringside, notably...Shelley misses a double-stomp off the top on re-entry and falls prey to the 4-UP~!...for two. The fans seems to be on Shelley's side for the most part, though Pope has his share of fans and he IS trying to play nice at the moment. Dinero lands the Macho Elbow but has a slight delay in covering and only gets a two-count. Pope blocks Sliced Bread #2 and hits an STO...for two. Shelley hits a version of the Flying Chuck out of nowhere, then lands a superkick and hits SB#2 on the second try for the upset win!

WWE Superstars.com

Your Smackdown-brand hosts are Jack Korpela and Matt Striker.

Justin Gabriel vs. Tyson Kidd: Well, this should rule. Korpela says Kidd wanted to be in the MITB Match...try winning some matches, dude. Gabriel blocks a top-rope Frankensteiner by holding onto the ropes, then finishes with the Fall From Grace.

Natalya Neidhart vs. Alicia Fox: Nattie gets the jobber entrance? Too bad, if only she could learn how to work. This one gets feisty in a hurry...in their previous encounter, Nattie ripped hair out of Alicia's head. Natalya blocks an axe kick attempt and goes for the Sharpshooter, but Alicia counters into a small package for the flash pin.

Your Raw-brand hosts are Scott Stanford and Josh Mathews.

Tag Team Champions The New Nexus vs. Zack Ryder & Santino Marella, non-title: Stanford does note that Vladimir Kozlov isn't too happy about Santino teaming with someone else...guess we'll see what happens with this odd couple. Ryder and Santino don't seem to be on the same page at first, leading to Santino falling victim to the superior teamwork of the champs. The name change for Joe Hennig is unusual by itself, but they almost NEVER mention his family background on top of that...guess I just don't understand the business or something. A double-team backfires and Ryder gets the hot tag...the house is on fire! Broski Boot hits on Otunga and McGillicutty breaks up the pin attempt...Santino dives at McGillicutty and hits...nothing. Ryder clotheslines McGillicutty to the floor and turns into a boot to the gut from Otunga. He sets up for the Verdict spinebuster, but Ryder counters STRAIGHT into the Rough Ryder and gets the three-count! Dueling celebrations ensue...who'da thunk it?

Evan Bourne vs. Primo Colon: WOO~! Sadly, Primo gets the "already in the ring" treatment for this match. YAY WRESTLING~! FLIPPIES~! Tremendous matchup...a series of pin reversals ends abruptly in a spinkick to the mush by Bourne, setting up the shooting star press for the victory.

TNA Impact

-Bound For Glory Series: Rob Van Dam d. Scott Steiner via rollup.
-Tara Varon & Miss Brooke Tessmacher d. Sarita Stock & Rosita Fly despite interference by Madison Rayne, winning the Women's Tag Team Titles; Tara pinned Sarita after a Baldo Bomb.
-Bound For Glory Series: Matt Morgan won a four-corner ladder match with A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, and Phil Gunner to earn ten points.
-Brian Kendrick d. Alex Shelley to retain the X-Division Title; Shelley hit a sick Asai DDT on the ring apron, but Austin Aries hit Shelley with the title belt out of nowhere and Kendrick(not having seen the interference) got the three-count.
-A scheduled Women's Title match between Mickie James(C) and Velvet Sky never started as Angelina Love and Winter Lea attacked both women. O.D.B. and Jacquelyn Moore also got involved after jumping the guardrail, bringing out Traci Brooks to side with Mickie and Velvet. Mickie defends against Winter at Hardcore Justice.
-Heavyweight Champion Sting & Kurt Angle d. Ken Anderson & Bully Ray; a Stinger Splash set up Kurt's Olympic Slam for the win on Anderson.

WWE NXT5.com

Your hosts are Todd Grisham and S. William Regal, your emcees are Matt Striker and Maryse Ouellet.

Dummy Demonstration: The newcomers get a chance to "impress" with the aid of a prop: A punching bag decorated with a picture of Michael Cole. Derrick Bateman continues the heel promos, then drops a few elbows on the punching bag before adding an Earthquake buttdrop and a BACKDROP DRIVER~! Bateman and Darren Young have both given up on trying to overcome Titus O'Neil's huge lead in redemption points...probably for the best. With only one face left in the competition, the fans naturally pick O'Neil to win. Grisham: "You can learn a lot from a dummy..."

Vladimir Kozlov vs. J.T.G.: Regal is REALLY looking forward to this matchup. A well-timed Timbaland Kick sends Kozlov out of the ring and J.T.G. sends him into the ringpost after that...the former Cryme Tyme member has a good showing to the point where even Regal is somewhat impressed. J.T.G. cuts off a late rally and clips the knee, but runs right into a big headbutt to the sternum and Vlad finishes with the Iron Curtain.

Hornswoggle hits on Maryse again...the little guy's been getting gifts from a secret admirer and Maryse rather emphatically declares that it's not her.

Yoshi Tatsu's backstage action figure shrine has been destroyed. "TYSOOOOON!"

Titus O'Neil(w/ Hornswoggle) vs. Darren Young: O'Neil dominates in the early going, sending Young into a crazy Flair Flip out of the ring...the fight ends up on the apron, but that goes in Young's favor as he hits a neckbreaker onto the edge of the ring. Bateman comes out to observe(and maybe more) as Young takes control...Daniel Bryan is notably absent on this night and Regal mentions Bryan's Money-In-The-Bank victory. Regal says one of his proudest accomplishments is how well Bryan turned out...he also notes that Bryan's too honorable to cash in at an "opportune" moment, which partially explains why he didn't cash in on World Champion Christian Cage on Sunday. Young keeps O'Neil down with a cravate hold but Titus powers out with a gutwrench suplex...Regal says that Gordon Solie called it a side salto. :-D Grisham and Regal note that Bryan got his start on NXT and he's come a long way since then. A series of reversals leads to Hornswoggle arguing with the referee...Young attempts to dropkick O'Neil as he hits the ropes, but Bateman trips Titus which doesn't do EITHER in-ring competitor any good. Both are slow to rise, but O'Neil is the one to capitalize with the Clash of The Titus and score the three-count.

NWA Anarchy TV #285

Your hosts are Tim E.D. & John Johnson.

Tommy Daniels takes another shot at the prestigious Bo Newsom Small Package Challenge...no, he just wants to wrestle. Daniels refuses the challenge, even when Shaun Tempers ups the ante from $25 to a staggering $27.50.

Tommy Daniels vs. Bo Newsom(w/ Shaun Tempers): Daniels does well enough early, then Johnson informs us that T.V. Champion Brodie Ray Chase has made his way to ringside. Newsom hits Saving Grace but Chase causes a distraction and that allows Daniels to recover and get the upset win via rollup! Bo gets ticked and shoves referee(and former wrestler) Wes Grissom...who shoves back. Ha ha.

Dan Wilson(w/ Hate Junkies) enlightens us. He gripes about Kimo attacking Azrael last week, then talks up the Junkies getting a shot at the NWA World Tag Team Titles against the Dark City Fight Club. "Bring out the Jolly Green Giant and Sprout!"

Armed & Dangerous vs. The Hate Junkies(w/ Dan Wilson): Fine match, though the contenders for the NWA World Tag Titles aren't likely to lose here. Chaos breaks loose and A&D do well, but in an odd spot, Lane Vasser's knee gives out as he lifts Johnny Dangerous for a double-team move. Stryknyn ends up pinning Dangerous after the Hate Crime(assisted superbomb).

Aden Chambers vs. Jacob Ashworth for the Young Lions' Title: Notably Johnson stays at the broadcast table for this one. "I can manage from up here!" Johnson suspects chicanery since Wes Grissom is officiating this match and Ashworth is a former ref so they're probably buddies in his mind. Chambers works on the arm, but goes to the top rope and jumps off into a Flapjack. El Big Comeback ensues but Chambers cuts him off with a rope-handspring roundhouse kick and locks him in a bridging Fujiwara armbar! Ashworth barely makes the ropes to escape defeat. Ashworth goes for his Ashes To Ashes finisher and Johnson bails from the broadcast booth at that point, but Chambers counters into a victory roll...for two! Chambers chokes and punches away on Ashworth, then Johnson trips him at a crucial moment. The ref admonishes Johnson as Chambers picks up Ashworth in a fireman's-carry...Johnson turns to gloat to the fans, but Ashworth escapes the predicament and hits Ashes To Ashes(full nelson into a wheelbarrow faceplant)! The ref turns around just in time to count three and Jacob Ashworth is the newwwww Young Lions' Champion! Johnson only hears the three-count and thinks Chambers was the one getting the pin, then slooooowly turns around when he hears Ashworth's music and spazzes at the announcement of the title change. Bwahahaha.

Jeff G. Bailey enlightens us and calls out General Manager J.T. Talent. Bailey is upset over Se7en being suspended, but he has promised a surprise for tonight. He has to keep Heavyweight Champion Shadow Jackson busy tonight, so he's contacted an old member of the NWA Elite...he calls Shadow to the ring so they can "examine the situation". He's defending against Se7en in two weeks, but tonight could be even worse for him...LIGHTS OFF LIGHTS ON...

Heavyweight Champion Shadow Jackson vs. Mikael Judas(w/ Jeff G. Bailey): Shadow goes on offense but IT'S THE BIG FOOT and it's downhill from there. Shocking to see Judas back in the NWA Elite fold after their turbulent past. TNA viewers may know him as "Murphy" or "that guy who used to hang out with Gunner". Judas pummels Jackson, but Shadow starts shrugging off the shots and firing back. Shadow climbs the turnbuckles to punch away at Judas in the corner, but Judas pushes him backwards...and he appears to tweak his ankle. Johnson is on the ball and remembers Shadow tearing his Achilles tendon several years ago...is this the old injury reoccurring? Judas pounces on the injury...and when the referee backs him off, Bailey takes a cheapshot with an axhandle(ex-promoter Jerry Palmer's weapon of choice)! Judas grabs an anklelock and Jackson is close to tapping out, but he reaches the ropes. Judas won't release the hold and that's a DQ...but the title's not on the line and Se7en's got the next title shot, so I doubt Bailey and company truly care about actually winning the match. The fans chant for Kimo as Judas STILL won't release the hold...Bailey even kicks the referee out of the ring. Kimo finally hits the ring with the face locker room in tow...Kimo and Judas square off, but Judas backs off with Bailey and the damage has been done.

Next week: Youth Gone Wild vs. The Ambassadors for the Tag Team Titles.

WWE Raw

-Vince McMahon(w/ Johnny Ace) says he won't mention that person's name again(fans: "C.M. Punk...C.M. Punk...") and announces a tournament for the WWE Title tonight. He vows that John Cena will face "severe consequences".
-WWE Title Tournament: Mike Mizanin d. Alex Riley via Skull-Crushing Finale; Riley focused on the bad knee for most of the match but Miz hit his finisher out of nowhere.
-WWE Title Tournament: "R-Truth" Ron Killings d. Jack Swagger by countering an anklelock attempt into a victory roll pin.
-WWE Title Tournament: Kofi Kingston d. Alberto Del Rio(w/ Ricardo Rodriguez~!); Kofi countered a cross-armbreaker takedown attempt, leading to a series of pin reversals until Kingston got the three-count with a sunset flip.
-WWE Title Tournament: Rey Misterio Jr. d. U.S. Champion Dolph Ziggler(w/ Vickie Guerrero)(n/t) with the 619 and splash off the top.
-Women's Champion Kelly K, Eve Torres, Gail Kim, Beth Phoenix, Natalya Neidhart, Kaitlyn Bonin, & A.J. Lee d. The Bella Twins, Melina Perez, Maryse Ouellet, Alicia Fox, Tamina Snuka, & Rosa Mendes when Beth pinned Rosa after the Glam Slam.
-WWE Title Tournament: Mike Mizanin d. Kofi Kingston with the Skull-Crushing Finale.
-WWE Title Tournament: Rey Misterio Jr. d. "R-Truth" Ron Killings with the 619 and splash off the top.
-The tournament finals are postponed until next week as Vince McMahon(in snazzy lavender sportcoat) comes out to address his issue with John Cena. Cena comes out to plead his case, even saying that he may just go to someone else's TV show if he is fired, BROTHER. Vince is about to lower the boom but TRIPLE H comes out in a corporate suit. The board of directors has been concerned about his questionable decisions lately...H doesn't want to say it, but he finally does: The board has relieved Vince of his duties and put H in charge. An emotional H leaves the ring, leaving Vince in shock...the fans somehow go from the goodbye song to "Thank You Vince" within a few minutes...

WWE Money In The Bank

Daniel Bryan(!) won the Smackdown Money-In-The-Bank ladder match involving Sheamus O'Shaunessy, Kane, Wade Barrett, Sin Cara, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, and Cody Rhodes. Cara was stretchered out after being powerbombed onto a ladder bridging the apron and broadcast table by Sheamus.

Kelly K(w/ Eve Torres) d. Brie Bella(w/ Nikki) via Rocker Dropper to retain the Women's Title.

Mark Henry d. The Big Show after two World's Strongest Slams and two big splashes. After the match, Henry wrapped a chair around Show's leg and Vaderbombed onto it, forcing Show to be literally carted out of the arena.

Alberto Del Rio won the Raw Money-In-The-Bank ladder match involving Kofi Kingston, Mike Mizanin, Evan Bourne, Alex Riley, Jack Swagger, "R-Truth" Ron Killings, and Rey Misterio Jr. Bourne hit an insane shooting star plancha off a ladder onto a bunch of people on the arena floor. Miz tweaked his knee during the match and had to be helped away from ringside, but he limped back out late in the match and nearly won. The match came down to Alberto and Rey, but Alberto yanked Rey's mask off and shoved him off the ladder before retrieving the briefcase.

Christian Cage d. Randy Orton by DQ to win the World Title; Christian immediately tried to bring a chair into play but Orton threw it out of the ring. The Killswitch only got a two-count but Orton couldn't put Christian away in turn. Christian begged off and SPAT right in Orton's face...Orton lost his cool and wailed on Christian before punting him right in the Universal Weak Point...title could change hands on a DQ(or a "bad call" by the referee) so Christian's the new champion. Orton proceeds to kill Christian with two RKOs onto the broadcast tables...I'm wanting Bryan to cash in his briefcase right then and there, but no go.

John Cena vs. C.M. Punk for the WWE Title: Epic matchup. Punk survived two STFs...he countered out of the second into the Anaconda Vise, but Cena powered out of that into the F-U...for two. Even a SECOND F-U isn't enough. Punk hits a flurry of offense ending in the Go 2 Sleep but Cena falls out of the ring. Punk throws Cena back in the ring, but Vince McMahon and Johnny Ace come out. Punk locks eyes with them, but the distraction is enough for Cena to take him down in a last-ditch STF. Vince calls for the f'n bell to be rung and sends Ace to do the deed, but Cena sees this, abandons the hold, and decks Ace...mouthing to Vince "not this way". Cena gets back in the ring...but gets caught in a second Go 2 Sleep. One. Two. Three. NEWWWWW WWE CHAMPION C.M. PUNK. Vince blows his top, grabs Michael Cole's headset, and yells for Alberto to come out and cash in his briefcase. He runs to the ring, but eats a big roundhouse kick from Punk who then bails over the barricade and through the crowd(bell never rang so it wasn't officially cashed in). The camera follows Punk as he leaves the building and Vince is left dumbfounded...

Well, didn't see that coming. A LOT of that.

SICW Wrestling Explosion

-Dave Vaughn & Chris Hargas d. The Big Texan & Waco by countout.
-Pete Madden d. Dan Walsh via jackknife pin.
-Flashback to 1981: Spike Huber p. Billy Howard with a high cross-bodyblock.

Saturday SICW Results From East Carondelet, IL + Other Show Results

-Pete Madden d. Ryan Drago via Northern Lights suplex.
-Kevin X d. Chase King with a bridging O'Connor Roll. After the match, promoter Herb Simmons acknowledged that Kevin is being deployed to Afghanistan and won't be wrestling for a while as a result...the fans gave Kevin a well-deserved standing ovation.
-Sir Bradley Charles wrestled Waco(w/ The Big Texan) to a ten-minute time-limit draw.
-Dave Vaughn d. Max Archer with a sleeperhold; Vaughn offered a post-match handshake but Archer swatted his hand away and walked away from the ring.
-Ron Power(w/ Sean Vincent) took on all comers in his arm wrestling challenge...he defeated Pete Madden and then Jordin Simmons, but Chris Hargas gave him more than he bargained for and Powers gave him a cheapshot before he could lose. This resulted in a huge beatdown on Hargas by Powers and Vincent that included several chairshots and a piledriver.
-The Big Texan d. Pete Madden via abdominal stretch; Pete was a last-minute substitute for Hargas who was injured by the earlier attack. Texan continued the assault after the match with a double-underhook powerbomb and a big splash.
-Herb Simmons acknowledged Larry Matysik and his Missouri Wrestling Revival trading card, leading to Matysik thanking the fans for their support.
-Ron Powers(w/ Sean Vincent) d. Chaz Wesson by DQ to retain the Classic Wrestling Title; Powers had control when Hargas(despite attempts to hold him back by SICW officials) stormed the ring to attack Powers. Wesson and Hargas briefly fought with Powers and Vincent before officials restored order. Vaughn and LaMarcus Clinton attempted to hold Hargas back in the ring along with Wesson...Hargas actually punched Vaughn out of frustration, resulting in some tense moments between the two friends.
-Lucy Mendez d. Stacey O'Brien after a tornado DDT.
-It was announced that Wesson/Hargas vs. Powers/Vincent had been signed for the next SICW show in East Carondelet on 8/20...
-Mark Sterling & Sean Vincent d. Gary Jackson & LaMarcus Clinton; LMC took a beating for most of the match but finally managed to tag in Jackson. Jackson went to town on Vincent, but Vincent tagged Sterling without Jackson realizing it. All four men fought in and around the ring...and Sterling double-legged Jackson into a cheap pin with feet on the ropes in the chaos. Gary protested the decision and promoter Herb Simmons promised that Gary would get Sterling back in the ring on 8/20.

WWE Smackdown

Comedy Part 376: Hump Day Hilarity

Location: Comedy Etc. II
Emcee: Aaron Brooks
After: Kelsey McClure
Before: C.G. Baxter

Mental note, do these blogs closer to the shows in question so I remember them more clearly. One of the best crowds at Etc. in quite some time as several newer comics brought friends. Tried out a few newer jokes, one of which incorporated a one-off line that I'd used previously...think that has potential. Really wanting to get some new material out there...also want to plan out my material to see exactly how much time I'm capable of doing....haven't done too many extended sets lately.
