A few quick notes from last night...
It may seem like an odd "complaint", but I wonder if Johnny Courageous wrestles TOO clean. His last few face vs. face matches have lacked a certain intensity. Also, the time-limit draws in the last few weeks didn't seem to have the sense of urgency as the clock ticked down toward the end...especially last night's matchup with Pete Madden. Pete did some subtle heel stuff but it wasn't enough to get the fans decidedly in favor of either man.
I realize that The Big Texan and Tony Raze are the MMWA Tag Team Champions, but it seems odd that the regular tag partners Texan and Waco seem to be teaming with everyone EXCEPT each other these days. Tricky situation any time you put a non-wrestler like ring announcer Jeff Vernetti in a match, but it can work out if executed in a certain way...hopefully that's how it'll go next month.
Really liked Powers-Hargas...it played out about as well as possible(though there was one backdrop spot where Powers nearly landed on his head). The finish played off last month's tag match where Hargas pinned Powers, though it was a bit shaky in the execution.
I can appreciate getting a finisher over in this era where finishers are survived a month after they're introduced as match-enders. Not just Dave Vaughn's sleeper but also Sean Vincent's figure-four leglock(on the TV show today, Larry Matysik even attributed Courageous' knee problems to Vincent's figure-four).
Chaz Wesson vs. Eric Allen was surprisingly short.
After the previous Vaughn/Hargas tension, gotta wonder how Hargas feels about Vaughn being moved into the title picture so quickly.
From what I understand, Ricky Cruz competed in Puerto Rico and was trained by Super Crazy...looking forward to seeing him in action in the near future.
Was a bit surprised to see Vincent defeat Dan Walsh, but good show in continuing the push the figure-four as a legitimate finishing hold.
Another case of an odd choice for the show-closing match...the show peaked a bit earlier with the Powers-related matches and storylines. The post-match made up for it though the DQ finish was lame.
Next weekend...MMWA is in Hillsdale and SICW is in Columbia, plus MECW is in Wood River. The first two weekends of October will be very busy around here with IHW, Dynamo, and Anarchy...
