Superstars & Smackdown

WWE Superstars.com

Your hosts are Josh Mathews, Matt Striker, & Scott Stanford.

Tyson Kidd vs. Jinder Mahal: Mahal's music now has Muhammad Hassan-esque chanting at the start of it...subtle~! Kidd slaps hands on the way to the ring...well, I was wondering who would be the face in this matchup. Kidd unleashes some aerial offense, nailing a somersault dive off the apron...but Jinder cuts him off and slows the pace. Striker reels off Royal Rumble factoids...I must note that the "winner gets a WrestleMania title shot" stipulation didn't start until 1993(the WWF Title was actually at stake in 1992). Kidd sticks and moves, delivering a basement dropkick and nearly winning with a rolling prawn cradle(OWEN~!). Kidd nails the inside-out slingshot legdrop to the back of Mahal's head but misses the Merosault...Mahal drops him with a Flatliner(another Hassan move!) and wraps things up with the camel clutch.

Women's Champion Beth Phoenix vs. Brie Bella(w/ Nikki), non-title: So who's the face in THIS matchup? It's been a while since we've seen Beth as she suffered an injury in a match with Alicia Fox. I'm guessing Beth will be the favorite in this one as she wins the opening shoving match. Nikki lends a hand at a key moment, pulling her sister out of the way of Beth's charge into the ropes. Beth turns things around and hits the slingshot suplex...then rams Brie into Nikki before delivering the Glam Slam. 1-2-3.

Kofi Kingston vs. Michael McGillicutty: Kofi is looking to bounce back from his recent Tag Team Title loss...who was his partner again? Stanford notes that Kofi was McGillicutty's mentor in the second season of NXT...had forgotten about that. Kofi has held singles and tag gold in the past while McGillicutty was tag champ with David Otunga...in fact, Air Boom(Kofi and that other guy) defeated them for the belts. Kofi fakes him out before connecting with a suicide dive for real...but McGillicutty blocks a swinging kick through the ropes to deliver a neckbreaker. Kingston comes back with a pseudo-Pele Kick to cue the comeback...Superman Punch, Boom Drop...but Trouble In Paradise misses. McGillicutty whiffs on a dropkick and Kofi hits the SOS, but MM grabs the bottom rope to escape defeat. McGillicutty snaps the throat off the top rope and lines him up for the Headturner neckbreaker, but a block-and-counter sequence ends in Trouble In Paradise for the Kofi victory!

Bryan ran away with his belt to close the show...
